Works fine here.

Normally I use the add attachment within TB but I've just tried Send To
from within Word 2000 and it worked fine. It first asked me which
account to use (I don't have a password) and then the edit box came up
with the file attached ready to send.

Your point is well taken. Now that I am aware of how to do this, I'm

  Thanks for your input, Richard.

Fortunately for both of us, using common filters doesn't require any
changes to The Bat!. That capability already exists. It only requires
a little more attention to detail than I sometimes give to what I'm
doing. If I could set the dialog to remember my preference for
creating common filters, it would make my life a little easier.

The Bat! already epitomizes the essence of choice in many things. This
wish merely extends that trend, it seems to me.

 TBUDL Mission statement

The TBUDL list has been set up for the purpose of discussing The
Bat! and how to use it. It is a community of users ready and able to
help new users get to grips with some of the capabilities of this
flexible email client. More complex issues are discussed on the
TBTECH list (see below for details).

Simply send messages to mailto:TBUDL@thebat.dutaint.com to send it
to the whole list.

See the notes at the end of this message for details about how to
manage your list membership or to leave the list.

It would probably be a good idea for you to set up a folder to keep
TBUDL messages in. If you do this, the next most useful thing to
have in place is an automatic filter to move mail from your inbox
into your TBUDL folder.

Set up a filter for incoming mail which looks for:

Header Field [Reply-To] Contains [EMAIL PROTECTED]

The Roguemoticon Project

It's nice to see your contact's face in the header ... and for them
to see yours. That's what roguemoticons are all about. If you wish
to add yourself, then you'll need to visit this site
http://www.pcwize.com/thebat
What this place will do for you is to allow you to create an
account, add your image and then let you download a .ZIP file
containing all the files you'll need to be able so see people's
faces without having to send or receive any real images in any
messages.

To trigger the roguemoticon display in the message header for anyone
reading your message using TB, you have the choice of using the
X-Rogue: header or a signature trigger.

How to use a signature trigger
The image is triggered by a 'Handle' you've defined in your
account, and when that Handle appears in a message it gets
replaced on the client side by the corresponding image. A handle
could look like anything you want it to look like pretty much.
For example:
:Leif_Gregory:
Just add this text to your standard message signature block.

How to create the X-Rogue: header
You can do that with this macro:
%SetHeader('X-Rogue',':your_handle:')%- in your templates for
this and other tb-lists.
However, the macro alone won't do the trick.
TB'll say: 'Hey, that's not any RFC822 header I know about', so
you'll have to define it as such:
Options .. Preferences .. Messages .. Message headers .. 'Add'

Now you'll get a pop-up to define the header

Display as: X-Rogue (or whatever, it isn't very important)
  RFC header: X-Rogue
Uncheck: 'This field is an address list' (because it isn't)
Check: 'Allow this field to be edited in the message editor'
Uncheck: 'Display this field in the scrollable part of the
  header pane'

Now you're done and every TB-user can see your lovable face when
they've installed the roguemoticons.

For you to see peoples faces:

To get this going, you should be running TB! v2.12 or later. Fetch
  the following file:
  http://www.pcwize.com/thebat/smileys/rogues.zip

Unzip it to the 'Images' directory that's in your TB! installation
  directory: C:\Program Files\The Bat!\Images
You should now have a directory called 'rogues' containing many
images as well as the file 'rogues.msl' in your Images directory.
Go into the preferences, and bring up the View/Editor options. Now
hit Shift-CTRL-Alt-T while TB! is in focus. This will re-fetch
TB!'s smiley set from disk and load the new images.

I don't know if it is really necessary to have a configuration option
for the state of a single tickbox, really. After all, creating a filter

As it previously has been said to you by me and others (I hope you do

- delete the offending message from the server with the message

- remove ALL plug-ins from The Bat

In addition:

And since you downgraded, and nothing changed I also dare say that this

Create a full backup, uninstall TB and install it again with a restore
from backup.
You'll need to manually move (don't delete it yet) the old message
base as that won't be deleted by the uninstall procedure and the
restore procedure wants to place the message base to the same spot.

To enable your preferences and registration info, you'll need to close
TB after restoring the backup and start it again.

It's gone. My guess: You played with it and the cursor was on that
line. If that happens, the editor will "de-recognize" it to be a sig
delimiter, and you have to add the blank at the end of the line, hit
"enter" and leave the line alone.

So, checking while editing causes the problem. Let's now talk about

Makes sense. You did ask for discussion, pro and con.

I would find it quite useful. I happen to have three accounts, and a
favorite relative occasionally writes to all three.

I read him by clicking on the MailTicker, and then I have to hunt the
message down, in one of two other inboxes, since that message didn't
come in to the account that filters him to his folder.

Not a really big deal, but multiplied by several, could get
time-consuming.

I didn't have time to study your work-around and implement it. I'm

But I copied your post to my Troubleshooting file, so I won't have to

Musings on Common Filters and Multiple Accounts

2006-10-31 Thread Perry Nelson
Hi TBUDL,

I have three accounts in The Bat!

Normally, when I create filters they apply to the specific account in
which they were created. Later when a correspondent sends a message to
that account it is filtered properly, assuming I have set the filter
up properly. That is the behavior I would anticipate, and it is the
behavior I see. All is good.

But sometimes that same correspondent sends a message to one of my
other accounts. And when that happens, his message is not filtered
because the filter was defined, and therefore resides, in another
account. Again, that is what I would expect, and The Bat! performs as
  it should.

But I'd like to collect all messages from that same correspondent into
one folder in one of my three accounts no matter which account he sent
it to, and I'd like to do that automatically with filters. That, it
seems to me, is one of the rationales for the use of "common filters."

When I highlight a message and choose to create a filter for it, I
find that there is a check box on the dialog to "create common
filter." Therefore I have the option to create a common filter *from*
any account when I'm on a message of the type I want to filter. That's
  good, I think.

I conclude that if I want to filter all messages from a particular
correspondent into a folder, regardless of the account to which it is
sent, I should create a common filter for incoming messages from that
correspondent. So I tested my thinking.

I created a common filter for one of my correspondents that moves his
messages into the folder of my choice, and it didn't work. Upon
investigating the cause, I realized that I had to have the common
filter apply to all accounts (an option for which is found under a tab
that exists only for common filters). I changed that option and
re-tested the filter, and now it works as I had anticipated.
  Excellent, says I.

So now I have a way to create filters that apply to all accounts, and
I've solved this particular problem. I wanted to share this musing
with you, in the event that you too have a similar need.

As I think about this strategy however, the only downside I see is
that I must remember to check that "create common filter" checkbox.
Unfortunately, remembering isn't one of my strong suits. So it occurs
to me that it might be desirable to have the option to make "create
common filter" a "sticky" selection, which is off by default but which
a user can turn on if she or he knows the consequences and wishes to
have The Bat! exhibit that behavior. Also, I think it would be helpful
if The Bat! would prompt me when I save a common filter to specify
which accounts I want it applied to, again because of the likelihood
that I would forget to go to the common filter and specify that
  option.

Do any of you agree this might be a desirable configuration option?
And if I entered it as on Ritlabs' Wish List, would you support it? If
not, what are the pitfalls you see or reasons why you don't think it
  is a good idea.

Thanks for the benefit of your thoughts.

Difference between versions

2006-10-31 Thread Tom
Hello Everyone,

I just went to the ritlabs homepage to check on TB and noticed that a
new version is available. Before everyone gets excited, its 3.85.03
and apart from me, everyone else probably knows about this as it
happened almost two months ago.
The what's new sections provides lots of details as to the differences
to Version 3.80.06 but I am running 3.85.02.
Does anyone know what has changed from 3.85.02 to 03 and if it is
worthwile to change/ upgrade?

Clean installation?

2006-10-31 Thread Paul Jansen
Hi,

i have a 1Gb message base with 9 accounts and a number of filters which has
evolved since
TB 1.62 I am having trouble restoring this into Voyager and would like
to know the best way to do a clean install and just keep the messages
and folder structure and the filters.

What is the recommended way to 'clean up' a TB installation?

Thanks
