Yup. I've not had to use the white or black lists with K9 either. When
using BayesIt, the lists became unmanageable. And you can't resize the
dialog and why is it modal? Actually, thinking about it, there's
a lot of modal nonsense going on in TB. Grrr.

But, on a happy note, K9 is the dog's ;-)

Strange filtering/message tossing issue.

2005-06-13 Thread Marc Lewis
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-

Hello All,

I've been noticing a peculiar problem with The Bat!. Messages coming
in for my 5 accounts get tossed into whatever mailbox strikes the
program's fancy... Doesn't matter what account or what mailbox. For
example, when I fired up my laptop a short while ago and started The
Bat!, it pulled in some 50 or 60 messages for 3 of the 5 various
accounts. (Picked up from 3 different mail servers, of course.) They
were tossed into random mailboxes. Most of them landed in the JUNK
folder of the first account. Others were randomly dispersed; some
correct, some wrong.

This problem has been with the program for quite a while now; I've
reported it to the bug submission address, but some software engineer
type person at Ritlab marked the problem "solved" - no comments, no
solutions, no nothing.

Does anyone have any ideas on this? It's a really annoying but
non-fatal. Has anyone else run into it? (BTW, it happens on any
machine. I have copies of The Bat! installed on 2 machines and the
same quirk shows up.)

Thanks!

Hello all,

Didn't I see a post here about a "tag line" manager for The Bat!? (In
case you're not familiar with the term tag line, it's a carry-over
from BBS networks like FidoNet; it's a short line (usually preceeded
by three periods (...)) with a witty expression or statement. It
always appears after the signature line or signature block. (See below
for an example.

I'd like to find an auxillary program to pipe a selectable tagline
into the message... Anyone know of one?

AVG carries my vote. Though I use the Professional version on this

excellent results and *very* good protection. And yes, the FreeWare

Yes, but like most mikrosift programs, it's lame at best. When your
first interface to "on-line" communications with people came from
FidoNet (and other BBS networks), you learn REAL quick that posting on
top of someone else's message (or even worse _overquoting_) was
moderator material. It was (and, IMHO is still) logical and
practical.

There is a convention about _trailing_ spaces being not kosher, but
you should not have a trailing space. It's ASCII32 + ASCII13. That's
definitely *not* a trailing space. If they're stripping away the CR
at the end of that line, their software is daft. Call it to their
attention. Unless your messages contain harmful or deletrious data,
they've got no business altering it. It would foul the message
security and void the PGP signature.

In fact, you can perhaps send yourself a message PGP signed and see
if the signature verifies when you receive it back. If not, the ISP
is tampering with your data.

Perhaps you didn't understand the question: You mentioned a new
plug-in for AVG. I wasn't concerned with an update for the AVG7
program itself (which is quite automatic - at least on this
workstation.) The plug-in is, TTBOMK, a separate entity from the AVG
program itself; an interface module for TB! to use.

What is wrong with the delimiter in the quoted data above? I see this
canned moderator message quite frequently. Perhaps it's generated by

Looking at the PGP page for v8, I see that it says it will not work
within any mail programs. I don't recall seeing a .dll file for PGP
v8 available from Ritlabs either. Sounds to me that 6.5 would be
better. I too am running XP and PGP 5.5; it does work AFAICS.

This brings up questions here... When I click on the LS icon to verify
someone's signature, isn't PGP supposed to go to one of the listed key
servers to check? Or am I not understanding something about the keys;
do I have to have a copy of every public key I want to verify?

Also, I prefer to "clearsign" my messages; I was wondering if there

I prefer to move through unread messages in full view and then jump to
next unread message with CTRL-ALT-RIGHT. This does work, but in which
order? If I read the first unread message in a thread and then want to

message in another thread. This is confusing. Is this a normal

The Bat MAPI Conflicts with Chapura Pocket Mirror (?)

2001-12-22 Thread Marc D. Field

Hi,

I'm trying to set up my PalmOS handheld to sync with The Bat via MAPI.
It works fine on my home PC. However, on my work PC, where I must sync
my Palm device to our corporate calendaring system (MS Outlook) via
Chapura's Pocket Mirror product (www.chapura.com), I'm running into a
problem: It appears that Pocket Mirror needs the MS version of
mapi32.dll in order to run, and it appears that The Bat replaces this
file with its own version. Pocket Mirror will not work with The Bat's
version. If you try to open Pocket Mirror's settings with The Bat's
mapi32.dll in c:\winnt\system32, you get this error: "CCMgr.exe -
Ordinal Not Found. The Ordinal 21 could not be located in the dll
MAPI32.dll." In addition, with The Bat's version of mapi32.dll in place, the
Outlook calendar conduit does not show up at all in the Hotsync custom
settings box (it's as if you don't have Pocket Mirror installed).

So, is there a way to use The Bat for MAPI but not replace the
system's MAPI32 dll? Is there any other way to fix this? (I've
already looked at Chapura's support site and they don't offer any
options...This is especially odd since Pocket Mirror does *not* sync
e-mail!) I'm using 1.54 beta 18.

Thanks for any help!

...MF

I send and receive large attachments to/from customers at work. Most

have the file right away in their mailbox. The solution you describe

Re: Yahoo slow?

Hi,

I used the e-mail provider GMX for almost a week now and must say that
I'm very satisfied. Thanks for the tip.

As I want to have the ability to send and receive large e-mails (with
attachments) I'm considering to take an GMXPro account. Can you
recommend this?. It's certainly not very expensive.

Thanks.

So it was a good decision after all to move from Yahoo to GMX. ;)

You don't have to have an Yahoo account to be able to join a Yahoo
group. I have f.e. just subscribed to such a Yahoo group without

That's what I meant when I posted this message. I am 90% happy with
what The Bat offers right now. I, as you maybe can see, finally
switched definitely to The Bat.

I just can't wait until the ability to write HTML messages is
introduced. I just want to use some bold and underline in my text. No
pictures, just simple enhancement of text.

If this feature is implemented in version 1.55 then I don't care for
version 2 anymore ;)).

Yahoo slow?

2001-12-08 Thread Marc van Breemen

Hi,

I'm using, as you see, Yahoo for my email. I have never any problems
with it. In the past I used Hotmail which is really s..t.

When I post a message to this list then it takes a while (an hour or
sometimes two days) to see my posting appearing in the list. Sometimes
I receive the replies much earlier. Strange.

Some say that this is a problem of Yahoo. But what if I never
experienced this problem in other lists?. Is it really Yahoo or could
the problem be at the side of this list?

If you can convince me that Yahoo is the problem then I will search for
another email service. In that case: which do you suggest?

Thanks.

Just curious why ....

2001-12-07 Thread Marc van Breemen

Hi to you all,

I'm a former Calypso user which is, as you maybe know, now orphaned by
the owner. So let's say it's dead. Now I am looking for the best
replacement. Two email clients are left in my search: Becky and The Bat.
Both are extremely good.

BUT: I want a email client that will last for a long long time. I don't
want to start using a email client again that will be discontinued at
some time. Can I rely on RitLabs that they introduce The Bat version 2
in the very near future? They are building it for more than two years
now. Still no beta to see, that is not really promising.

MCS, the former developer of Calypso, also promised to introduce new
versions and then suddenly pulled the plug out; because: "You can't beat
Outlook". Why wouldn't this happen with The Bat? Why not?.

Can anybody explain me why RitLabs introduces new features (like common
folders) in an 'old' version (version 1.xx) when they are very (I hope) busy
with finishing (I hope) version 2.? If I were them I put all my
effort in completing version 2 and, besides solving the serious bugs,
quit developing version 1. Why not? Tell me, why not?

Seriously, I like The Bat very much, so don't take my comment as an
attack. I'm just worried.

Greetings,
Marc van Breemen <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Forwarding in Outlook

2001-11-29 Thread Marc van Breemen

At work we use Outlook / Exchange (sadly but true). I want to forward
all my email to my private email adress. At this way I can read and
write email within f.e. The Bat.

I know how to define a filter in Outlook that forwards the email to
another adress. But: it only works if I forward it to an internal email
adress. It doesn't work if I forward it to my private email adress.
Writing a email message in Outlook to my private email adress does work.

Does anybody know why it doesn't work?

Thanks!

Fortunately, it is sufficient to place the cursor somewhere in the

Okay, I went in and did all that. Matched the settings in the folder
of the account name.. if that makes sense.. I have a "141.com"
account. And the folders matched *that* folder.

I tried to change the folder columns (moved size) in the default
account. Worked, except the folders didn't follow suit. Moreover, when
I clicked back to the default account folder, *that* had reverted to
its previous column order.

The column sizes also don't seem to stick.

bug?

Is the main account folder the default account folder? Or am I missing
something, or am I totally confused now?

I have the same problem. It has something to do with threading. I
would guess that some (or all) of your accounts are on the same
server/isp? Eudora had the same problem. In Eudora you can specify to
NOT use threading so that it checks 1 account at a time.

TB! does not have that option. I specified odd times for checking so
that overlapping was to a minimum. It is not perfect.

I would add: Make system wide sets of FILTERS, TEMPLATES etc with
account overrides. This allows simple creations for generic stuff for
all accounts and detailed stuff in each account.

ALSO would be nice if FROm and REPLY-TO drop downs listed all from ALL
accounts. Sometimes my business account I would like to change the (as
Eudora does) personality from business to personal etc.

I'd like to revisit this issue, since I still don't have it working..
Can TB display messages in the message window (not the preview pane)
in order of thread, and only unread messages? What I've tried so far
is navigating with space or cntrl-] and it skips around. If I use
space within the preview pane, it does go in the order of the message
list (which if properly sorted), but all, not just unread.

duh.. just answered my own question.. I guess I can display only the
unread messages... but how can I do this (read in order of thread from
within a message box)

How are some of you guys navigating? Just point + click?

Thanks..

Purge = empty??

2000-07-24 Thread Marc Weinmann

Hello tbuDL,

A stupid question, but what exactly does purge mean.. when it says
purge all folders, does that mean totally clean it out, or does it
mean something else (perhaps deleted messages are still there???)

Before I do something drastic, I want to be sure. It seems like such a
drastic, sweeping command.

doh! I see what you mean.. no control-* works fine.. I think I may
have not been clear to the list... I meant reading thread by thread
while within the message window, not the preview pane.. i'll try the
space bar method next time I have a number of new messages..

Thanks

2000-07-24 Thread Marc Weinmann

Hello TBUDL,

Is there a way to read a mailing list that is in it's own folder in
threaded view - by reading new messages in order of thread? When I
read new messages it seems to skip around, perhaps in recieved
order. I'd like to be able to read the new ones, one thread at a
time.. Is this not possible, or am I missing something?

  Thanks
