some are getting deleted anyway. Has anyone else had this problem? I
am using Windows 98SE.

C Do you have a 'Selective download' filter? 'Selective download'
C filters allow to delete messages even if you have Leave messages on
C server on - if you configure TB so. This is not a problem, but a
C useful feature.

Thanks very much, that is what it was. I changed the Selective

shut TheBat down. When restarting, all is fine and I delete the

The best reason from now until January 10th is the price. You can

2003-12-19 Thread Wayne Black
Friday, December 19, 2003 at 8:08 AM (Pacific Time)

Hello Bat Users,

Well, I held off as long as I could before upgrading to version 2. I
used 1.62r a long time with no problems. Then I seen where I could
upgrade for only $14.00 until Jan, 10th because of the Christmas
specials. I just couldn't pass it up. I am really glad I did! The new
folder maintenance centre is very well done. I backed 1.62r up first
in case I had problems. Then I just installed 2.02.3 over the top of
1.62r, I wasn't sure you could do that but I had my back up so it
didn't mater. To my surprise, everything works fine so far. Even my
templates are working, and I thought I read something where they had to
be changed for version 2.

Anyway, I have always been very conservative when it comes to
upgrading software. I don't do it just because but I can tell you
that now is the time especially with the Christmas discounts. I am
still in the early stages of using version 2 but have not, yet anyway,
experienced any of the problems that I have seen others have on the
list. I just wanted to say how pleased I am with version 2. Everyone
have a Merry Christmas!

2003-03-15 Thread Wayne Black
Saturday, March 15, 2003 at 11:41 AM (Pacific Time)

Greetings TheBat! Users,

Well, after installing NOD32 and TheBat plug-in, I found a new menu
item in TheBat's Folder Menu called check for viruses One of the
settings was move the message to the quarantine folder I did not
have a quarantine folder but I tried it anyway. I ran it on a folder
with about 600 messages and it was s slow. When it was done, it
had found 172 infected messages and moved them to the newly created
Quarantine folder.

There was no way any of these messages had a virus in them. Someone
try this and see if you get the same results. I guess it is better not
to use the check for viruses option and just let the plug-in do it's
job by having NOD check the messages as they come in.

Or... Would it be a better *not* to use the plug-in and configure NODs
pop3scan for each account?

Greetings TheBat! Users,

I just wanted to share a problem and a fix that I experienced this
morning. I was checking my TBUDL and TBOT mail this morning and there
were 96 new messages. I always use the connection center, normally
without any problems. But for some reason, it would hang on message
#64 while trying to get the headers. There were no attachments or
unusually large messages. I tried three times and it still came to a
halt at #64.

I used Popcorn to get all the email headers for this account (around
560 of them because I have it set to leave mail on server for 3 days)
closed Popcorn, opened TheBat and was able to get all 96 headers and
download as normal. I don't know if anyone else had this happen or not
but this is how I was able to fix it.

Removable drive

Greetings TheBat! Users,

Is it true that version 2.x of TheBat will have all files needed in
the main directory? In other words, no need for a registry file? If
this is the case it would be possible to install and run TheBat from a
removable drive such as a USB key drive. Think of it... your email
program and all messages in your pocket. Just plug it in at a friends
house, at work or at home. Any computer with a USB port which is most
of them less than three to five years old.

It would be great security too since TheBat would not even reside on
your computer. Take a look at http://www.usbkeydrive.com and tell me
if this would be possible and how practical it would be.

I think of this because of the new PocoMail Portable Edition. I hope
it will work with v2 of TheBat.

I just had TheBat lock up on me for the first time and wondered if
anyone else had this happen by doing what I did. I was experimenting
with the mass mailing feature and created the template. Next I
selected 47 address book entries and hit mass mailing using template
and picked my template. Then under action I picked open in editor
I guess I should not have done that because it opened all 47 messages
in the editor (like it should) I then closed them all by hitting Esc
47 times. All still seemed well until I closed down TheBat. That is
when it locked up. Everything was okay when I restarted my computer.

The best thing to do is probably choose put in outbox and if
necessary, edit them one at a time. Or, could this be a bug?

And a question. How can you delete the search history in message
finder? It is getting quite long.

Thanks for your comments and I sure wish there would be a The Bat!
Forum in the US some day. Perhaps Reno or Las Vegas?

Address book

2001-09-01 Thread Wayne Black

Saturday, September 01, 2001 3:19 PM GMT -0800

Hello Bat Users,

Sorry if this is a duplicate message but I don't think the first one
got through because it didn't show up on the list and I got that
bounce back message from Marcks server.

Hello Bat Users,

Here is one that I have never seen on the list. I was looking around
in The Bat's directories and opened thebat.abd address book file in
a text editor just to see what it looked like.

Still in this file are names and addresses that I deleted months ago.
They don't show up when I open the address book but they *are* in the
thebat.abd file. Had anyone else noticed this before?

How would one purge this file of these deleted items without messing
up the address book? Thanks, and hello everybody. I haven't posted in
quite some time but have over 6000 messages in my Batlist folder.

KS address. The only way to re-allow editing is by pressing the down
KS icon at the right, showing the list of previous addressees or
KS Subjects, and *then* I can edit. Very annoying...

I find it east to edit a subject or address by reverse tabbing (Shift
+ Tab) into any field which turns it blue and start typing. Then tab
again gets you back down to message body area. This works for me
anyway.

Yes, I believe you can just move the folders over but be sure to keep
a copy of everything on the old machine or somewhere else till you see
if everything works.

This command will copy TBs registry key to a file called backbat.reg
into a directory called bat of drive D. Make adjustments if you need to
copy it to a floppy or other drive.

regedit /e d:\bat\batback.reg hkey_current_user\software\rit

This one will restore registry entries to c:\thebat which is where I
keep the program. I have my backup stored in d:\bat Again, make needed
changes to the path. I use Windows 98se. I don't know if this works on
95 or 2K. Hope this helps.

regedit /c d:\bat\batback.reg

ACM Already listed is HAPPY99.EXE,LOVELETTER*.VBS,*.PIF,*.SCR,*.SHS

Can you simply enter *.* here to prevent any attachments from opening

ACM Hmmm, I see .PIF already entered in my list which may have been

Hello Bat Users,

Well, Everything worked splendidly for the backup and restore (under
Tools) using TB v1.48f. Only one problem... None of my filters/rules
are to be found! What is up with that?...

Confirmed, tried it a few days ago with 1.48f all filters were lost

Just a comment on the above if I may. I have had the same problems
with the backup feature so I still use my compression program (Rar) to
backup the whole Bat directory and registry key. This way, I don't
loose anything and it also creates a much smaller file than using the
backup feature. Just wanted to let everyone know what works for me.

the dll is the way to get it to show the correct version. I tried this

Kill Dupes

Tuesday, October 24, 2000

Hello Bat Users,

This is kind of a question and a request. There is the option to copy
messages from one folder to another. When you choose "Folders, Kill
Dupes In all Folders", this would delete any copies of messages you
had in other folders wouldn't it? I don't usually copy messages from
one folder to another but I am sure that there are those who do.

As I said, I don't copy messages to another folder but I run "Kill
Dupes In All Folders" about twice a month and it usually finds one or
two and deletes them. I don't know where these could be coming from.
It would just be nice to see what is being deleted and be given a
chance *not* to delete it. Is this a feature worth requesting?

Your thoughts and comments appreciated.

Selective Download

Sunday, October 22, 2000

Hello Bat Users,

I am starting to use the Selective Download section of the filters and
had some questions.

1) What does the action "kill" do besides delete the message? Does it
still show up in the message dispatcher and give you a chance to
receive it?

2) In the signal strings section it looks as though it looks in the
headers for the strings. This can only be addresses or words in the
subject field but not in the message body, is this correct?

3) The signal string section is quite large and it gives you an option
to load strings from a file as well. How are the strings separated,
one on each line or with the pipe "|" character?

Thanks to everyone and have a great day!

above checked in PGP (which was the default) is what was messing
things up. Hope this helps!

JA %QInclude="Template Handle"

JA The biggest time savings comes when I change something in my template.
JA It automatically propagates through all accounts and all folders.

I know this message wasn't sent directly to me but I just wanted to

to the Quick Templates. Thanks again!

MDP Hang-on ... with tags? You mean like HTML ... /HTML? Then that
MDP doesn't even conform to true HTML standard. You might be talking about
MDP RTF (Rich Text Format) mail, which isn't HTML standard and might show
MDP as you describe. HTML mail usually consists of a plain text message
MDP with an attachment containing the HTML version of it.

I had the same thing happen, being to see all of the HTML tags in my
messages but found out why. In one of the messages in this group it
mentioned that when importing messages from Eudora, this will happen.
That's just what I did when I left Eudora (because of going to
"adware") New HTML displays just fine. Learning more all the time...

Backup

2000-09-09 Thread Wayne Black

Friday, September 08, 2000

Hello All,

I am a new user of The Bat and love it! I don't think I could ever go
back to anything else. Anyway, I wanted to put my two cents in on the
subject of backing up The Bat. I use these two simple batch files to
backup and restore everything to and from the "D" partition of my hard
drive. It works assuming the command line version of the "RAR"
archiver program being in the path. I have it in the Windows
directory. It would of corse work with Pkzip, ARJ or which ever
archiving program you use. I hope they help. I know they sure have
come in handy for me. They look like this:

This one backs up everything including the registry key.
-
@echo=off
cd\
cls
cd thebat
echo.
echo.
echo This batch file will backup the entire Bat email program and all
echo messages plus the Bat registry file to D:\BAT for easy restoring.
echo.
echo Make sure to run this batch file from the "C" drive.
echo.
pause
cls
rar a -r d:\bat\allbat.rar
regedit /e d:\bat\tbreg.reg hkey_current_user\software\rit
cd\
cls

And to restore:
--
@echo=off
cd\
cls
echo.
echo.
echo This will restore the Bat program, all messages and the bat registry.
echo.
pause
rar x d:\bat\allbat.rar c:\thebat
cls
echo.
echo.
echo The last step is to restore the Bat's registry file.
echo.
pause
regedit /c d:\bat\tbreg.reg

Re[2]: Compress?

2000-08-31 Thread Wayne Black

Hello Marck,

I have tried this command line to back up The Bat's registry file. It
seems to work but I can not find this file to be able to restore it.
Where does it go? I am using The Bat 1.45 with Windows 98. I want to
be able to add this registry backup command line to a batch file that
copies the whole Bat directory to the "D" partition of my hard drive.
This would make everything easy to backup and restore with a desktop
icon pointing to this batch file. Pleas let me know if you use a
better way of doing this. Thanks to everyone.

MDP You can either use Regedit to export the key or use the command prompt
MDP or a batch file to backup the registry data with this command:

MDP regedit /e tbreg.reg HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RIT

MDP When re-installing, just double-click on the .reg file from Windows
MDP Explorer to reload the data into the system registry.

Limits?

2000-08-23 Thread Wayne Black

Hello TBUDL,

I am new to this list and am getting some getting some very good
information from everyone. I just wanted to know if The Bat has been
tested with a very large number of messages in it's folders. Does it
have a limit to the number of messages in a folder or the number of
entries in the address book? I don't really understand the limitations
section of the help file. Thanks and have a great day!
