Yes, that's the way it is supposed to work, but it seems to need help
getting started. It didn't automatically index everything when I
configured it to do so and then closed TB down to force it to start.

Not sure why, but it seemed to go better when I forced the re-indexing
manually. Hopefully, this will be useful feedback for the author.

Greetings Steve and All, 14:34, Monday, May 23, 2005

I can confirm that this combination works. Firefox, The Bat 3.0.1.33, the
GDS plugin 1.0.07 for The Bat, Win XP pro.

The initial behavior was a little strange. After I configured the plugin
in TB and forced an initial "re-index" only a small number of the mail
indexes showed up in GDS. GDS updates in the background and so it takes a
while, but the process seemed to stall after a few thousand messages were
indexed. I went back to plugin configuration re-indexed again and another
thousand mail messages showed in the GDS count almost immediately.

I re-indexed four times before the count of mail messages appeared to
asymptote on the GDS status page, so the plugin still needs some tweaking.
However, the searches are quick once the indexes are in place. This looks
like a very promising tool.

Extremely odd... I tried again @ work today... and it works there. Maybe
because I'm connecting thru a proxy at work all the time. Either way, it

Looks like this regsvr32 commandline tries to add an entry to the
TBPlugin.ini file (in TB's mail directory). Can you check your ini file if
the entry was added?

If OTFE is used and the mailbase is crypted, maybe the ini file has a
different name, or the file itself is crypted, too, so the plugin can't be
added by the installer.

The relevant part of it here is...

I don't know what the "plugin data" section is, maybe it is only
configuration settings?

You have to use the cmdline function described in the thread on Google,
regsvr32 /s GoogleDesktopCantRemember.dll - make sure that TB is NOT
running when you do this. When you're done and you restart TB the plugin
will be automatically added (at least thats how it was here - how this

I've installed the plug-in too but it doesn't show me any folders. I think it's
because I'm using OTFE and the plug-in doesn't support it (yet??).

All right... that "index upon receive" option is not so good. :-) It'll
index message before they arrive in TB's messagebase, and thus before they
arrive at their final destination folder (if using filters).

For mailing lists where you get your own messages sent back to you it may
be irritating that you'll find one and the same message twice - one in your
Sent mail folder and the other that you received back. I don't think this
can be avoided.

So far it works; both the indexing and the searching are very fast - nice!

I've yet to try how it works on indexing newly arrived messages. What I'm
missing is a "view in The Bat" option as it is with the native Outlook
