Can we please have the option to have *all* filter actions logged

The log for Office Rules should mention _what_ condition (keyword
etc.) in a rule that triggered that particular rule.

As an example - some of my anti-spam rules has tons of keyword in
them to be triggered on condition Yes for Anywhere:

The above is just _one_ of my filters - most of the times it is pretty
obvious what triggered the rule - but every now and then it is a real
puzzle. I would like the log to show the condition that triggered, like:

10.03.2003, 16:11:51: FETCH - received message from [EMAIL PROTECTED] (2144 bytes)
(processed by JunkShield Spamvestigater (General - Anywhere - Main 2003-JAN-21 -
2), trigger: slut, moved to Inbox\Shielded Messages - JunkShield)

Notice the logged condition trigger: slut in my example.

Feel free to add this suggestion to your wish if you want, Stuart.

I fully concur with this! see below boondoggle

 10.03.2003, 16:11:51: FETCH - received message from
[EMAIL PROTECTED] (2144 bytes) (processed by JunkShield
 Spamvestigater (General - Anywhere - Main 2003-JAN-21 - 2),

SMN Notice the logged condition trigger: slut in my example.

I had a situation occur over the weekend (when I am less attentive to
my mail) which caused a mail filter loop and sent out 457 'fwd: fwd:
fwd: ' messages to a mailing list I manage. That is 457 X
10,212 (or 4.66 _MILLION_ plus) messages before I caught the error. I
still don't know why it happened, as the logs don't tell me what the
'trigger' was. This filter has been working properly for 14 months,
so I'm at a loss as to what happened. I'm thinking the mailing list
that sends out the daily bulletin involved has slightly changed their
format, just enough to foul up my filter, but I am still in the
process of investigating.

Sorry to here about your problem - the feeling is awful, I reckon!

I manage 6 complete mailinglists with Digests (my own software) on a
PII 233 - works like a breeze. The problem you were having is avoided
on my lists easily since I add a small line in all outgoing messages:
I set Field %ORG=Musaic.Net (Musaic.Net Relay Server featuring Anti-
virus Antispam filtering). So I avoid loops by simply having a rule
in front of my mailing list rules that grabs any returning message with
a line Musaic.Net (Musaic.Net Relay Serve [snip] in Organization.

WOW! It certainly must take a lot of time from you to manage the
filters (add words or phrases and knowing if they are already included
in one of your filters, etc.). Why re-invent the wheel! Haven't you
thought about using something like POPFile for detecting spam? If I
had to manage those filters I would delete them and return to just
deleting spam as it comes in, much less work.

MAU with 10,212 members with TB? So that when a message is sent to the

To quote the popular rent-a-car ad, Not exactly. I have messages
such as ZDNet Anchordesk and other assorted IT news and anti-virus
bulletins that forward to a 'Smartgroups' list containing the 10,212
members. By the time I caught it, the volume had reached these
levels. Fortunately there is a 5-10 minute delay between the time I
send them out and when they appear to be distributed. If the response
time was faster, the duplications would have been more monumental!!

As I am one of the group members (the 'owner'), I get each message
back into the folder for the group. I still haven't figured out how
the filter misfired after 14 months, as the trigger is the sending
mailer and the field is 'sender.' The 'sender' for the newsletter is
newsletter.online.com, and the 'sender' for the group is smartgroups.com.

You tell me how the filter got bullocks'd up? I don't have a
clue..

No help I know but my filters went belly up a while ago and I don't
know why either so I just worked through them but also had to adjust
the order of some of my folders to get it all back working. I only
have very basic rules running my folders too - fortunately.

OK, I didn't how far you had already gone in creation the filter. So,
it doesn't take you much time but it _did_. That is what I meant, a
big effort.

I have a personal feeling for a system I created myself!

Nothing to argue about that. There is nothing to argue about personal
feelings.

Besides, I fight spammers - maintaining my own system keeps me very
well alert to what I am doing!

I also actively fight spammers, and not just reporting spam to
Spamcop. In my case, POPFile and a very simple filter in TB to move
spam to a folder do the job.

Yes, I agree. I roll all my own filters and don't use any spam
blockers. Apart from having the satisfaction of doing it myself I know
(at least 99% of the time) why things are being filtered. And, one or
two of the normal spam words sometimes appear in subject lines from
friends of mine, so I know that I can get them by having their filter
(to folder) first, before my spam filters.

Yes. I hardlyu ever see spam messages now other than in my spam folder
or my trash, depending on the filter. (I use a spam folder for filters
which contain domain names on the off chance I may get a mail from
someone at those domains who isn't a spammer).
