I found a web site (batworld.de) with a load of different glyphs for
TB! The problem is that the whole site is German and I can't figure
out what's required to d/l the files. If I click on a download link I
get taken to a page that I can't figure out. Can some kind soul (a)
point me at an English language site with these images on or (b) tell
me what I need to do to d/l the glyphs from this site.

TIA

glyphs?

2004-05-06 Thread ken green
Are glyphs no longer supported? I thought I only had to copy the BMP
file to the TB program directory to get the glyphs I want. Is that
only for a new install? I upgraded to 2.10.03 this morning.

2004-09-04 Thread Lynn
Hi all -

I dl'd v3, and installed it .. ONE of the filters is not
working, for this list, though all my other lists seem
fine .. I got rid of the virtual folder that was driving
me nuts, and the folders are now behaving in a
conventional fashion, I think .. at least they aren't
breeding in there as they were before.

So I thought I'd see if there weren't some better glyphs
(from my point of view), and dl'ed some of those, but they
aren't registering.

I put the .bmp file in TheBat! folder, and the high colour
image checkbox is checked in the preferences folder. I
restarted TB.

What have I missed .. ? Are there some instructions in
English somewhere?

tia,

Lynn

Or is there another way to get the default icons into my graphics program

Yu must be registered AFAIK. You can try to use www.thebatworld.de or
www.thebat.cz/ikony.htm for many glyphs too.

There is a free translator site that will translate german to english.
http://plugin.imtranslator.com/
Just paste the text in and translate it. It does a fairly good job.

There is also another good site with glyphs.

If the glyphs.bmp is in the folder where your thebat.exe is, and new
icons still doesn't show, then the only problem could be with the .bmp
file. Try to use another one. (I can send you one I use now, if you

Maybe I'll pick it up again later, but for now I'll release it to

Just place it in the TB-directory, TB will use it in stead of the ones

The first was the file name. The other is if you've looked at the

I don't intend to correct Ron (the site is German), but I'd like to
get this of my chest:

Even though the Pennsylvania Dutch were originally Germans, Dutch !=
German. What adds the the widespread confusion is that in German the
adjective and the name of the language German is "Deutsch", which most
English speakers pronounce 'dutch' (this probably started the
misnomer for the Pennsylvania Dutch).

FWIW, my favorite is set #7, it enhances contrasts and thus
facilitates recognizing button and icon meanings.

Far left? That would be "Valid certificate". Or do you mean far right,
something that resembles a pen? My guess is that this stands for the

How do you go about changing a select few of the Glyphs?

How does TB! recognise which picture belongs where?

Can I copy and paste certain pictures over from another set?

The reason I ask is because I'd rather a horizontal folder set rather
than the angles ones they are.

Check under Options/Preferences/General, there is one option "use high

Hi Deborah,
They must be in the same directory as thebat.exe.

-Go to explorer and The Bat directory.
-Make sure you can see thebat.exe and glyphs.bmp.
   -Now double click thebat.exe

If you now see the glymps, you must have an other copy of the bat
   somewhere.

If not try reinstalling the bat because something is wrong :(

I have an XP machine with two profiles, both running The Bat!. For one

To use the icons in glyphs.bmp, you need to set the option "High color

TB includes default glyphs (icons) in the executable file. If you copy a
glyphs.bmp file to TB's install directory, TB will use these icons
instead. You can find and download a good number of different options
here

http://batworld.de/glyphs/index.html

The standard Layout which has TheBat! is integrated in the program. If you
want to change the layout (icons) you have to copy a "glyphs.bmb" file in to
the root folder of TheBat!. TB! takes this file for the layout. There are
several Glyphs. Sorry i don't have a English spoken page for you only this on
in German:

http://www.batworld.de/glyphs/index.html

There are 48 different Glyps for downloading.

Changing glyphs

2001-07-12 Thread Browning, Karl

I have read the page "Editing The Bat! Glyphs" and am having a little
trouble. I have a copy of TB! 1.53d that I am testing (likely to register
soon), but there is no glyphs.bmp. I created my own, but I only wanted to
change a few and all of the images disappeared. After removing my file,
everything is back to normal.

The question is: where can I get a copy of glyphs.bmp that has the standard
glyphs in it?

Thanks much for any and all help,

glyphs documentation request

2000-10-01 Thread Jason Thompson

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hello everyone...

The recent posts on TB glyphs have gotten me interested in coming up
with some glyphs of my own.

I'm finding TB's behavior in using glyphs to be a bit odd. (ie.
logically each icon occupies a 28x28 pixel space, yet TB chops out the
outermost 2 pixels on each side, and how transparency is figured I'm
not really sure)

Does anyone know where I can find information on how TB uses the glyph
file? TB help file and Marck's TB FAQ weren't helpful. (pssst Marck,
this would be a nice addition to the FAQ :-)

Glyphs file folder

2004-11-04 Thread Ciprian Trofin
A friend has installed TB! v2.01.3 on both a desktop and a notebook.
However, the buttons (toolbars) look different on these computers. I think
a "glyphs.bmp" file is to blame, but I cannot find it in TB! instalation
folder.

Any suggestion?

I already had the new glyphs.bmp in the TB folder, but wasn't seeing
them. When I switched to high-colour images, I could see them without
closing & restarting TB.

To change the glyphs though, I have to close & restart. IOW, the "view

glyphs.bmp doesn't.

Yeah, I'm a man.

If you're using PGP, then go into PGPKeys, right click your key and in
the menu, go to 'add' and select 'photo'.

JM> I also uploaded them to the server, but how do people know where it

We check the same server you uploaded to. Most servers are
interconnected so uploading it to one will have it sent to the others. A
good server to upload to is pgp.surfnet.nl .

JM> for that matter how do I know where it is to tell someone,

You could just state that it's on the particular server you uploaded it
to or provide a link to a download as I do or send it via e-mail.

JM> it just said that it was uploaded successfully, but nothing else.

That's ok.

JM> Should I put them on my server for people to download?

Yes. Your public key should be made as available as possible for others

Glyphs won't change

2003-10-20 Thread Gene Brown
Odd little problem with my glyphs. When I upgraded to 2.0 the glyphs
didn't change, even though the splash logo did. I moved up to 2.01,
but still no change. I didn't think much of it until there was a
discussion here of alternate glyph collections and I thought I might
try something different.

Well, even loading in a new glyphs bmp file didn't change anything! I
still have the old 1.xx glyphs. This is a trivial issue, but now it
has me wondering. How is this even possible? Aren't the glyphs
integral to the exe file?

We have two computers networked here at home, and each has TB
installed. The same upgrade files were used on both computers--one
changed, the other didn't. How can this be?

The standard glyphs are in the exe. Only if you have a glyphs.bmp file
in your TB directory, will the standard as per exe be overridden.

If you want to create your own, it is a good idea to get one of the
glyphs file around, and modify that one. The position and size of each
glyph is important for TB to know where to use it.

I should have read on before writing one of my earlier
messages. AFAIK, no-one on this list except Tony has created/modified
any glyph files. I suggest forwarding your query to Ritlabs support.

I'll make some enquires myself and get back to you when I've struck

It's a doddle. All I do is cut the ones I want out from the other
applications and then paste them in the relevant place in the
  glyphs.bmp.

I use Paint shop Pro and grab the images from the screen grab option.
As for the transparency, it's just a matter of erasing the background
of the pasted image and making it the same colour (Grey) of the
  original bmp.

Perhaps I could create a step by step how-to if anyone is interested ??

Re: glyphs documentation request

2000-10-02 Thread Jason Thompson

Hello Tony...

Yes, a how-to would be great if you don't mind. Thanks.

I've already begun making my own glyphs.bmp from stratch (except for a
little bit of help from the Wingdings font ;-) and transparencies have so far
behaved exactly like you said...Except for one icon. I re-created the toolbar
'create new message' icon, and upon restarting TB I found that the icon had
an incorrect transparency value. Turns out the trans. color was the pixel
in the very lower-left corner of the icon. I changed that one pixel to the
usual gray (r192,b192,g192 if I remember correctly) and the transparency
worked fine again. So I suppose that pixel is read in as the transparent value. A
good thing to know.

I'll be sure to post my glyphs when I'm done for anyone who wants to check
it out.

A suggestion to you programmers out there who know .bmp file format: How
about a utility to easily import graphics to create a custom glpyhs.bmp?

My apologies for posting without the usual PGP signing and TB signature.
I'm writing from work (on a Mac--bah!) using the GMX web interface... And
feeling naked without my usual software setup. ;-)

Hmmm...Depends on what you're thinking specifically.

Glyphs can change the icons in TB, yes.
Glyphs can not "skin" TB or change its startup logo.
