Hi Andy
What is the wife test?
If you mean wife testing it on hubby and friend, making customized wiki for
each of them in our own language, and they are still not passing the test
and keep using TiddlyWiki, then I would agree.

I think you should have a look at http://tw5bookmarklets.tiddlyspot.com/
That is one of Ton Gerners guides, all highly recommendable.

 Hi Andy

The official plugins are all listed on tiddlywiki.com, and all get
automatically upgraded when you use tiddlywiki.com/upgrade.html.

For community plugins, there are two relevant plans:

 * to introduce a Plugins tab to the Community tiddler on
tiddlywiki.com that lists the known community plugins (plugin authors
can send pull requests to update the entries about their plugins)
 * to introduce a new tiddlywiki.org community wiki based on TW5, which
may also be used for a community curated plugin list

As a user of TiddlyWiki, you're probably better off if the plugins that
you use regularly are part of the official plugin library. That means that
they need an active maintainer. There are quite strict standards for the
official library (eg plugins must work both in the browser and under
Node.js) and so not all existing plugins could be included without
 modification.

 Best wishes

 Jeremy.

So there is no good way to generate HTML USING widgets.

I didn't quite follow that conclusion. Can you provide an example?

Is it possible to seperate widget parsing from HTML parsing?

I guess it's the same question as above.
Haven't generated static pages yet, so that's probably why,

I think that would advance TW to make it more useful as a templating
 engine.

Please expand a little on what you have in mind.
Do you mean, defining templates via tiddlers and have static files rendered
based on that?

Due to this, it is much better to build the content you want to generate

building the desired source code directly. But in my opinion, it should
be possible to generate XML based formats from TW (think XSLT, RSS) and
using the full potential of the TW widgets.

Re: [tw] Re: Widgets for HTML generation

2014-12-12 Thread Jeremy Ruston
Hi Andreas

I ran into the problem, that widgets and HTML fall into the same wiki
parsing rule (as far as I know). So there is no good way to generate HTML
USING widgets. So my question is: Is there another option (when you can't
do 1. for some reason)

The approach that the core uses in the templates that general HTML output
is to have the HTML tags that you want in the output to be plain text,
leaving the invisible widgets for list widgets etc.

So, you're first example could be done like this:

$list filter=1 2 3
`h1 class=`$text text=currentTiddler/``$text
text=currentTiddler/`/h1`
/$list

It would get quite hairy to do too much of that, so the core makes
extensive use of the template $:/core/templates/html-tiddler which uses
the view widget to render a tiddler as wikified HTML.

For example:

https://github.com/Jermolene/TiddlyWiki5/blob/master/core%2Ftemplates%2Fstatic.tiddler.html.tid

This example takes a different approach; it disables widget/html rule
parsing, causing html tags to be passed through wikification untouched, and
relies on the wikitext transclusion syntax to bring in constituent content:

https://github.com/Jermolene/TiddlyWiki5/blob/master/core%2Ftemplates%2Ftiddlywiki5.html.tid

Best wishes

Jeremy

Hi Andreas,

When using TW as a template engine, you might want to do something like
 this:

 $list filter=1 2 3
 h1 class=$text text=currentTiddler/$text
 text=currentTiddler//h1
 /$list

 Thus the output here is:

 h1 class=$text text=currentTiddler/1/h1

Not sure I follow. How can this be the output for a static file? That
doesn't seem right. A static file would only contain valid html tags, no
tw-markup, unless wrapped in *pre* or *code,* etc..., otherwise the
static rendering process needs ammending. Not?

Best wishes, Tobias.

Where did the file come from that you used for the import?

Can't it be due to the fact that I open html by nw.exe?

Can you expand what you mean by that? What is the command line you are

As Jeremy indicates; a *link* here is what you (and I) probably think
of as the* tiddler title in lists*.

 @Jeremy
My guess is that people are trying to drag the url appearing in the
browser url field. That's what I did the first times. Maybe we should call
 it *title link* instead?

The idea of dragging links is probably very odd to most people, it was
at least to me. Later, when dragging of tiddlers is implemented as
discussed (actually, the title displayed in the tiddler), I think this will
be solved and the current method of dragging the links will probably seem
like a bonus. (...drag the tiddler into your TW, or just its title
 wherever it appears)

Re: [tw] Re: [TW5] GettingStarted tiddler + flexible help system

2014-12-12 Thread Tobias Beer
Hi Jeremy,

I've simplified empty.html's GettingStarted to remove the tabs. I think,
at least for the moment, that we should keep it simple, and link to help
 material elsewhere.

I think that's a good approach. Tabs add complexity and would only help in
this context if numbered. There could be a few more headlines, e.g.

*Create* (tiddlers)

*Save* (tiddlywiki)

*Explore* (tags, macros, templates, etc.)

...each with either the ui features to use, e.g. buttons, indicating what
to do ...or definitions lists with summaries and links pointing towards the
corresponding topics on tiddlywiki.com... similar to
http://tb5.tiddlyspot.com/#Core.

I see if I can't give it a try at what that could look like.
anyhow, I think this is a very important topic to keep newcomers confident
...and motivated to explore!

Perhaps, this is a good opportunity to introduce the most simplistic
(implementation of a) widget rendering a headings toc with clickable
links... so as to have that toc at the top of a tiddler while being able to
jump to a topic further down the tiddler.

Best wishes, Tobias.

Thanks for this useful Newtiddler Widget. Let me ask a question. The
documentation says that placeholders can be anywhere in a skeleton. Where
variable data contains multi-word phrases, this fails if the placeholder is
a tag. In this case, each word of the phrase appears as a separate tag. Can
you suggest a workaround to that?

width: 1280,
height: 1040,

I can change width and height with the expected result.

The best solution I've found is using this plugin:

However, I can't imagine that plugin will work with TiddlyWiki 5. Now I'm

TiddlyLock or waiting to see if Version 5 gets any multi-user support. I'm

Hi Daniel,

assuming the tid files have the right format and are stored in the
tiddlers directory, any externally created .tid-files should appear as
tiddlers AFTER the node server is restarted.
If you want them to pop up immediately, you should take a look at the

What do you think, @Eric Shulman?

Once again, all proposals are full vector artworks, drawn in Inkscape, and
available as SVG files for native inclusion in tiddlywiki.
This one had an auxiliary 3D model in Blender to get the diamond shape just
right.

Hahahah the pooping fish design made me laugh, nice nickname!
The connecting words is actually a great idea, made a new poster based
on the concept more abstract design if you are more into that sort of thing.
Think wikiwords, tags and links that connect tiddlers together in a
complex global network mesh, hope you like it.

Suggestion: make the crystal shape in the middle a classic symmetric
diamond cut (58 triangular and kite-shaped facets)... the implication being
that the facets are tiddlers, and bringing them together in an organized
way makes a very valuable result.

And once again, it looks very nice. I really like the idea of trying to
expressing the concept of TiddlyWiki through geometric shapes. I however
also think that any text included in such
a poster should be easily readable and particularly the bottom text
might be a bit too much grey on grey ?

Right you are, should any of tese posters win, some color adjustments to
the text might have to be made. Some times what's more visually appealing
is not always easier to read.
Also, if these are to be print-ready, those backgrounds might be a little
environment unfriendly and cost ineffective, and color ink might not always
be available so maybe a monochrome version might be in order.

Updated version with some small color tweaks and size adjustments to better
fit new paper size, also added a slight shadow to help the little tiddler
pop out a little more.

Haha didn't know about the babel fish from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the
Galaxy, so that must be where the name of the old yahoo translation website
 came from.

I did forget to mention the ideia behind it all, this was actually
inspired by an idea that ran quite some time ago back when you were
searching for an official icon for TiddlyWiki. I always thought the word
 *tiddler
*came from *tiddly* as small or compact and simple, but apparently as
Stephen mentioned it is also a fish species whose scientific name,
according to Wikipedia, is Three-Spined Stickleback.
Doing a Google search I found a few nice images which I use as reference
reference, and the colors are actually more or less accurate according to
the last image found in this website http://imgkid.com/stickleback.shtml,
with some artistic liberties in the mix of course.

So it should be pretty straightforward now, the fish obviously came from
the tiddler species, and those lines, that go in all tangled and come
out straight and lined up represent how tiddlywiki is great for organizing
and displaying your information in a neat and customizable fashion. The
 triangulated low poly style
 https://www.google.com/search?tbm=ischhl=enlr=lang_en%7Clang_ptq=low%20poly%20vector

seems to be pretty much the thing currently throughout the internet, did
my best to capture that feeling.

[tw] Re: [TW5] Removing indicies from data tiddlers and using regex to list/search data tiddler indicies

2014-12-12 Thread Stephan Hradek
Try this:

\define thisSearchMacro()
ol
$list filter=
[[$:/data/Acronyms]indexes[]regexp:title[(?i)$(thisSearch)$]]
li$transclude tiddler=$:/data/Acronyms index=currentTiddler//li
/$list
/ol
\end

filter explanation:
1. Get your Acronyms
2. Get its indeces
3. Filter them by your search string
4. For each remaining transclude the content

I use emsp;emsp; but I would be interested in this indent that you are
referring to.

I haven't found a simple indent format style like there is for other things

I will probably need to create a custom style for it and I will try the css you
suggest as a start.
Plain Text is not going to work and Definition might.

Really just wanted to indent, #heheh.

Hey Rich,

I'm not very familiar with tiddlywiki yet - so there is a good chance that
there are better solutions, but here is what I've discovered yet:

1. If you just want plain text choose Type: Plain Text,  then whitespaces are
rendered as you type them - so you could just put like 4 of them at the
beginning of the line.
2. you can put css in your tiddlers - so you could try something like this:
@@margin-left:50px;
hello world
@@
3. There are some WikiText elements which are indenting text like block
quotes or definitions - I haven't found one which is just a indentation, for
example definitions will put a empty line after them. But perhaps this is
what you want anyway... You can check out all of them on
http://tiddlywiki.com/static/WikiText.html

Good luck

[tw] Re: [TW5] Removing indicies from data tiddlers and using regex to list/search data tiddler indicies

2014-12-12 Thread Jed Carty
Do filters get executed in order? I hadn't encountered or noticed it
before, but rearranging the filter breaks the output,
[indexes[][$:/data/Acronyms]regexp:title[(?i)$(thisSearch)$]] doesn't work.
I had assumed that each operation was done independently and then the
intersection of the resulting sets (or union for ORing filters) was given
as the output.
In most cases this wouldn't have any effect, but it seems to be the case
here.

Is that what is happening? If so that may have been why nothing I was
trying was working out. It makes sense but either it isn't mentioned in the
documentation or I am missing it.
