[tw] [TW5] How create SVG icons
I've been using a program on my phone called isopix and have a PNG file with what I want to turn into a Tiddlywiki icon for a plugin but I can't figure out how to get it to be an embedded svg icon that uses polygon points like the native icons in Tiddlywiki. Anyone have any suggestions? Re: [tw] Re: [TW5] Getting 5.1.8 ready for release
Great stuff with this coming release. I have a few questions regarding the Corner ribbon plugin. Shouldn't it be possible to set the color of the ribbon using a color field in the tiddler where the ribbon is defined? Maybe that is a future upgrade? Are we trying to use fields or tags for color? RE: [tw] The Concept of Tags and Tagging
I know this may not be what you want, but if you don't want a tag to show up on the tags tab under the more tab in the sidebar, you can start a tag with $:/ Sent from my Samsung Epic™ 4G TouchMat matiasg...@gmail.com wrote:This was originally intended as a post for a github discussion on Hidden tags but I figure it could be of general interest. [...] I think a lot of what has come up [in that github thread] reflects different ways of using a TW: There are different applications - however, more fundamentally, there are simply different ways of thinking. It is not strange that we have different needs for TW considering the close connection between TW and ones brain. I partly think of tags as an analogy to cognitive associations. Sometimes associations function as transitional segways (that reminds me of X) but other times it is just a flash triggering into something. We can use tags to categorize and elegantly structure tiddlers,. This takes logic and thinking to do. But quite as often, tags are used in the much more ephemeral activity; searching. Tagging is of course a key feature for effective search. But the best tags for search efficiency are not at all necessarily those carefully thought out and pretty category tags but instead actually whatever pops into your mind! If I say yellow and you say banana, then you just demonstrated that this is a more natural association than e.g colour. If I want to trigger banana in your mind, then it could well be that yellow is a more efficient word than the logicially much closer word fruit. This aspect is not human irrationality, it is part of our cognitive power and extremely efficient for our thinking processes and IMO we should take advante of this in TW. Let me give you a concrete example of this: Just an hour ago I came up with a brilliant idea (yes, they're all brilliant ;-) that we should have a TW mockup notation consisting of graphic images, such as a generic blank tiddler, a blank button, a blank tab, a blank tagpill etc so that anyone easily can create nice mockups in TW to illustrate ideas (primarily for the TW community, I guess). The idea is still very rough and I've pretty much only made a quick tiddler to note down a few words so I don't forget the idea when my brain whizzes off in other direction. Where does this idea come from? Well, other than that I illustrate a lot of my ideas to explain them, this is probably inspired by Astrids railroads and Jeremys talk about different notations in TW. And quite possibly also by the poster hullabaloo. These are associations I make, and it gives the concept a context both in content and time. Now, how should I tag this tiddler? Well, with some category tags for sure; TWconcept, IdeaRank4, mockup. But I would really also want the much more associative aspects: graphics, illustration, paint.net, railroad, Astrid, draft, sketch, notation, model, Duarte, I fully understand that not everyone can identify with this workflow, not to mention my associations. But TiddlyWiki is for noting down things so this is not about trying to shoehorn TW into something it isn't supposed to be, at least not as far as I can tell. [Wanting to] tag like this is really about making TW fit around your brain. If TW doesn't allow for this... it probably should. However [referring to the github thread] a consequence of this is a lot of tags that you don't want to see immediately - for (exactly) the same reason that you don't want your brain to flash around if you're actually focussing on a subject. Tags (associations) call for attention. For this reason it is desirable to be able to hide tags from view mode(!) on command. ... I'm reminded of the early search engines (was it Altavista or even before? And *alt.net* or whatever it was called?). They tried to *structure* the internet into categories. This was bound to fail and within a few years this was totally replaced by the ad hoc search we still have (even if much refined). Also the early email-boxes with strictly hierarchical folder structures. Feels logic and things are in order... but it turns out our minds don't quite work like that. We cross-correlate things. In the case of email, I think it was google that first came up with tags for making things less rigid. :-) -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups TiddlyWiki group. The offline process downloads a predefined list of publicly available wikis, then merges their content as system tiddlers into the new wiki. The rest is customized TW search. * The user cannot see the tiddlers directly on the search wiki: every link (in the search results or by clicking on a tag pill) is converted to an external link to the original tiddler (this solves the main issue which appeared in the first version, where some content was broken due to incompatible plugins/system tiddlers). * Currently all non-system tiddlers are scraped from the indexed wikis, but we can consider a more subtle system with special tags, fields or whitelist/blacklist (see https://github.com/erwanm/tw-aggregator/issues/6) The current list of indexed wikis can be found at https://rawgit.com/erwanm/tw-aggregator/master/tw-community-search.html#CommunityWikis. If you are the author of one of these, please tell me if you agree to this use of your wiki: unless there is an explicit licence in you wiki (and I didn't find any in the current list of wikis), I need your explicit agreement for this reuse of your content. So please reply, otherwise I will have to remove your wiki from the list... and obviously the shorter the list the less useful the search will be. (I will also send individual emails to the authors in case they don't check the TW mailing list regularly). Also if you are the author of a wiki which is not in the list and you want it to be referenced, please tell me. Mario had raised a few issues for the first version in https://groups.google.com/d/msg/Tiddlywiki/qGk3aH731Pc/fZ0RvvsEyqAJ: the first one is solved, and I hope to solve the second one about the copyright issue soon. However the third one about google referencing I'm not sure: I think (?) that the link farm problem is solved by the fact that now links are built dynamically by some widget/macro code: there is only one permanent link to every referenced wiki (i.e. not in every tiddler anymore). However the duplication of the content might still be an issue? If anybody knows how this works and what I can do about it, please tell me! Re: [tw] [TW5] ExternalImage styling
Thank you so much for your input Tobias. I do need the fallback. The height wasn't me, it was Internet Explorer Developer (f12 key). I use chrome and IE10. The z-index came from previous experiments with external images, embedding and I plan on expanding my image to the full height of my tiddler once I figure out the title bar and how to get it to float above the external image. It is hard to program for all platforms. My quick tiddlyspot (name inspired by you) is t5a.tiddlyspot.com. Please forgive me for not asking first if I can pay tribute to you on my wiki. RE: [tw] Re: [TW5] - iframe positioning sizing
Maybe using ExternalImages? I'd like to figure out sizing for them since it is now in the core. Sent from my Samsung Epic™ 4G TouchTobias Beer beertob...@gmail.com wrote:Hi GBNeil, The iframe route (std html returned from Google) has interface problems (Print icon other parms not processed). I noticed that the buttons could get cut off even though you enabled them. Some (generated) url parameters also appeared to not get through if you used that url directly as the src attribute, rather than a url-shortened version... and I believe the buttons were one of those. I avoided this using an embedded object without iframe - this generates the effect shown in the jpg: a clean render but TW generates an iframe, which seems fixed in size position - the original problem. Not sure if TiddlyWiki has special handling for embed. All I know is that embed and object are equally as poorly standardized as they are implemented and vary from browser to browser, and that's why Youtube, for example, skipped the whole thing entirely as well and just provides iframe code for embedding. The dreaded iframe is not the problem, me thinks. Thanks for the reference - I'll talk with Tobias. That should be up to the user to decide with [img[...]] or other user-defined file handling macros. The most general simple solution would be that the drag-and-dropped function should: 1. grab the absolute-file-link string file such as: file:///d:/data/Proj/PhotoScrapbook/origs/%7B040%7DIM-3837.jpg 2. check that the file is within the TiddlyWiki's folder for example: d:/data/Proj/PhotoScrapbook/ 3. paste the appropriate link into a text box if it is in under same folder as the TiddlyWiki then paste the relative file link text : file:.//origs/%7B040%7DIM-3837.jpg and if the file is not under that folder assume the user wants the file to be imported into the TiddlyWiki are raw text. could also have the option to paste the absolute path link text : file:///d:/data/Proj/PhotoScrapbook/origs/%7B040%7DIM-3837.jpg (although I am not sure under what scenario this would be useful). I would hope you are refering to Jeremy's SVG graphics because they are very cool. If you are refering to my 3d icons, that is a very long process involving alot that I haven't fully finalized on yet an I am only testing. Feel free to borrow, but I am not sure what would happen. I'm still trying to figure it out myself. So, it may look good but not function so better to stick with SVG for now. Re: [tw] Re: Tiddlywiki and head.js
The following list is extensive and I have a huge amount to learn in order to achieve a true serverless multi-user wiki so here it goes: Using Head.js (because I am running ie7 and I want the HTML5 and CSS3 classes) load as much as possible of the TWcore and JSplugins as external minified not gzipped (because it slows things down a little unless someone else has any better way) files and also most external tiddlers except for and after external CSS and external default tiddlers have been loaded. Please feel free to pick apart my logic because all I want is for it to open up and display the top drop down menu (more on this later) and default tiddlers as soon as possible and everything else lazily load from external (minified) files. I'd like to use newest language as possible and was trying to explore node.js but that was server-side and I can't install anything so was looking into Require.js but then I found Angular.js and CoffeeScript and so now I am considering using Head.js, Angular.js, and CoffeScript...whew. I want the externalization because I want speed and the benefits of having multiple users being able to play with different files at the same time just not the same file at the same time if you can understand what I mean. Hitting edit will edit the tiddler within same window and lock the source file so only one user can update that tiddler at that time. Hitting done button saves the tiddler or better put, just the modifications and unlocks the tiddler file and the bi-directional data-binding that Angular.js provides updates real-time the entire wiki and it would be nice to figure out how it would update everyone's wiki that has it open real-time. My top CSS3 menu will have rounded corners and can also have multiple columns in the drop down menu and it also includes an iframe shim because it has to display over the top of objects and iframes that I have embedded in tiddler. I am using embedded iframes to display PDF files that are on an intranet. I am also using embedded objects to display actual web pages and video on our intranet right within tiddlers and I needed the iframe shim technique to display the top menu over the objects which was really annoying (thank you microsoft, not). I plan to eliminate the backstage altogether because I don't need it anymore and it takes up allot of room. I plan to find a real-time spellchecker with those red squiggly underlines in edit mode only. Oh, I also would like it to actual visually display text formatting like what you see when you replay to a message in gmail with the formatting menu at the top of the edit box. I foresee being able to still use the wikitext but since I will have bi-directional data-binding even in the edit window also, it will convert the wikitext to actual visually formatted text well, mostly, maybe or maybe not for tables. Ok, so now that you know my plans please feel free to offer any advice before I learn a language that turns out to not be what I need or any logic arguments. Thank you. Re: [tw] Video backgrounds
Hi, I struggled alot with this very same issue because the video player has a different set of z-index and can only be forced back under your other content with an iframe shim. Trust me when I say it was a maddening issue. What I did was to create a iframe shim over the area where the video showed up and then set the z-index for that to less then for where the content shows up. In other words setting z-index for content to a higher level then the shim. The problem I faced was completely covering up the video..You might try setting wmode. I don't mean to oversimplify but at least it might give you a good starting point. It was really a complicated mess. If anyone with a better solution I'd like to hear it. I put my iframe shim in a tiddler and then transcluded it into the pagetemplate. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups TiddlyWiki group. Re: [tw] Re: Displaying inline pdfs using pdf.js
Well, I found that I could remove the bottom padding from the css but now I have to put br at the end of every tiddler and it is quirky if the tiddler ends witj a table or anything hidden with /% and %/ but it is a small price to pay for an inline pdf viewer that fills the tiddler area almost completely. My only problem is because I am trying to transclude the frame using a variable and AliasPlugin and it does display but I cant figure out where it is getting it's z-index value from. Re: [tw] Re: A couple of Newbie Questions
OK, so I had to change StyleSheet and now it works. So here is the final transcluded inline links by tag where %0 is the tag passed to the alias. If anyone comes up with something easier or if there is already a plugin out there, please let be know. I feel like I am reinventing the wheel. The reason I created this is because i have included tiddlers which the titles sometimes change and break all my links so now the tiddler titles can change all they want and the tag keeps the links working. Id rather it use something like the created field but I couldn't figure out how to do that. This also helped me figure out how to transclude css styling which is also useful to me. I want a link that goes and gets what to display using existing core functions and not a plugin. Something like {{nobullets{list filter [tag[201203210105]]}}} but with created instead of tag. I guess you could put the created date in as a tag but this makes me wonder if there would be able to create an alias that you could then put something like a $ where $ is the tag or something like alias a {{\{\{nobullets\{\\tiddler [tag[%0]]\\\}\}\}}}. Re: [tw] Re: Sectionlinks plugin
Ok. I couldn't have done half of what I've acomplished without you Eric and I wish I had some money to tip you because you are The Guru. I want to give back in some way so I'll tell you a little about what I did. I still don't like having to transclude bullets into my tables but I'll live with it because I figured out how to transclude it in from a hidden section within the same tiddler. I have a top fixed menu so the problem was, I could't figure out where to put the anchors since SectionLinkPlugin does't work with hidden sections. Well, I finally figured out that if I put the anchor at the top of my hidden section and then @@display:block;padding-top:60px;margin-top:-60px;@@ then when it transcuded in, it would scroll to where I want it to when I click the bookmark. How cool that I've learned this from previous tiddlytools plugins and Eric's valuable instruction. I didn't stop there though, I also then used AliasPlugin again Eric I bow to you and actually for each of my bookmarks in my huge table transcluded the actual anchors and formatting so all I have to put at the top of each hidden section is a a or whatever letter I want to use as the tag ID for my Alias and then the second letter for the bookmark. That saved me so much space and time that I feel like a time lord. Thank you again Eric for all your help. I am needing it farther down on the screen and not sure what to apply the padding to in stylesheet. I hope that makes sence. SectionLinksPlugin scrolls you to the section heading that defines the section. It is not based on CSS, so there is no padding that you can add to a class in your StyleSheet. If you want to scroll to a different location within the tiddler, you need to create either a section heading at that location, e.g., !somename or an HTML anchor at that location, e.g., htmla name=somename //html The first method creates an actual section definition within the tiddler, using standard TWCore heading syntax. You can then link to that section (e.g., TiddlerName##somename) or transclude that section (e.g., tiddler TiddlerName##somename)). However, that method also renders the section heading as a header (H1) format within the content, so it is visible to the user. If you want to create an *invisible* location for scrolling, you need to use the second method, which creates a named HTML anchor that can be used in links that hot-scroll (e.g., TiddlerName##somename), but does *NOT* create a section definition or visible heading output. enjoy, -e Eric Shulman TiddlyTools / ELS Design Studios WAS THIS ANSWER HELPFUL? I have a fixed menu at the top of my page and the right scroll bar only goes up to the bottom of the top menu as follows: StyleSheet /*{{{*/ html, body { background:lightblue; height: 100%; overflow:hidden; } #header2{ position:fixed; top:0px; left:0px; height:55px; } #content2{ position:absolute; bottom:0px; top:55px; left:0px; right:0px; overflow:auto; } #displayArea2 {margin:1em 1em 0 0;} /*}}}*/ PageTemplate !--{}-- The problem is that the reason I designed it this way was so that I could have a fixed menu at the top and when you click on a bookmark it would scroll to that place but keep the menu at the top. However; for some reason I don't understand, SectionLinksPlugin doesn't function when I have my menu fixed at the top. Re: [tw] Improving User Experience: Tiddler Placement Upon Opening
With mine, tiddler opens below but doesn't scroll down to it. I would prefer it if everything would just always open at the top. Is there a setting that can be configured? At that point I might click C from B and the same thing happens. The problem, though, is that after reading C, I would like to be returned to B and after reading B I would like to be returned to A. Cognitively, this is like traversing back through the conversations on my way out and it makes more sense to me. Actually, this is what I currently do, but the returning is not automatic. Rather I'm scrolling to find the tiddler I was looking at before. Sometimes I lose track of what I was thinking about and my screen becomes filled with tiddlers that are no longer in my topic thread. A solution: When opening B from a link in A, place B *above* A and then have the screen scroll to B. This way, I naturally scroll down when reading B and once finished I will again be in A. Other small improvements: place the close tiddler control at the bottom of tiddlers (that's easy enough). Also, if a tiddler is already open when a link for it is clicked, *move* it to just above the source tiddler and scroll to it rather than just scrolling to wherever it currently is. Is there any way to currently do this? I once used TW as documentation for a project and then handed the TW over to my client, but I'm afraid that using a TW for just reading can be a bit disorienting. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups TiddlyWiki group. Re: [tw] Re: shared pool of tags for multiple TWs
Is there a way to silence the display of loadtiddlersplugin message at the top in orange that displays how many tiddlers were loaded? It is annoying and I have to hit close twice for it to go away. On Jun 17, 2011 9:04 AM, HansBKK hans...@gmail.com wrote: Sorry this is so involved - first, the background: My current thinking is that the external source is simply a repository containing a hierarchy of tags which I want to maintain centrally. These tags will be applied to many - currently a dozen, eventually hundreds of separate different content sets (lets call them books), which are stored in separate TW files, containing somewhat related types of content, but not on exactly the same topics. The master contains the universal concepts common to all the texts, which hierarchy is important to keep consistent across all the TW files. But each individual TW file will need to also have its own specific terminology - internal, local taxonomy - that doesn't need to - in fact shouldn't - exist in the central thesaurus master. For example, if I were cross-indexing hundreds of source texts from all the major religions - in the master file I maintain the thesaurus of universal values terms - ethical concepts, personality traits, states of mind, behavioral practices etc that are common to nearly all the major religions. However Islam has its own set of specialized terms, which I want do want to index within the Muslim TW files; Buddhism has a lot of its own set of unique terms as well, Hinduism, etc. If I had to maintain each of the separate religions' terms together all mixed in with the universal set, the master becomes much more difficult to manage. Now from the POV of processing a given text: Tagging a books' tiddlers is much more difficult if I have to try to remember which terms are universal and which are specific to that religion - it works much better if I can first run through the text applying all the master tags in one pass, and then make a separate pass applying the local ones. Now that I think about it, since I'm likely to end up with multiple Buddhist TWs - one mahayana and one theravada - or perhaps I start hitting performance issues and want to split the ancient Hindu texts out from the more recent ones, it would probably be better to simply talk about separating the tag hierarchies not just local vs external but more generally by source - multiple external sources, with if it isn't too much of a problem still leaving the possibility for local-only ones. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups TiddlyWiki group. Re: [tw] Re: Collaboration using Dropbox - looking for investigators
