Re: [tips] Need an example of the need for human factors research?
I just got rid of a Jeep Cherokee (a victim of the Great Rust God). The direction you rotated the key in the door lock to lock depended on whether you were locking the driver or the passenger side. I thought I was suffering from all kinds of confusions until finally I discovered the rule. You rotate the key towards the front (to left on drivers side, to right on passenger side) to produce the same effect. Kenneth M. Steele, Ph. Re: [tips] Famous people who have taken a (credible) personality test
I've often suspected that the MMPI would be just as effective with a dead subject, or even a salmon. Re: [tips] What is "talk" therapy?
In the popular press, at least, the term is usually used in apposition to drug therapy. [tips] You Can't Clean Up Wall Street -- Really
One citizen's attempt to clean up Wall St -- the actual Wall St in downtown NYC -- came to an end when a NY policeman came up to the citizen and told him that he could not clean up Wall St. Story and video here: http://www.observer.com/2011/10/operation-occupy-wall-street-cleanup-hits-the-new-york-stock-exchange/ Note: use caution if you are allergic to horses. Critical Thinking Exercise for Assessing the Validity of the News Media: The New York Observer is a newspaper in NYC that aims towards a higher level of demographic than, say, the NY Daily News or Post (but not exactly hipster fare though there are pretensions) and occasionally it has the really interesting news article or analysis. Here is an example of how some media people engage in "reasoning", namely, drawing inferences from partial information and making assertions about the world which get passed off as "factual" by an uncritical media and audience; see: http://www.observer.com/2011/10/reuters-and-the-occupy-wall-street-connection-to-george-soros-the-reviews-are-in/ Reporters reactions at the end should be read. Note new term: "Drudge bait". However, this raises a fundamental question about the nature of the social world: Is there no social activity/plot/movement that cannot be connected to Kevin Bacon? How did Kevin Bacon become so influential? ;-) -Mike Palij New York University m...@nyu.edu P.S. For the more intellectually curious and imaginative, one can related the "critical thinking" exercise above to the "proof" that a witch weighs as much as a duck -- and how this can be programmed. [tips] Famous people who have taken a (credible) personality test
I'm putting together an idea for a research study but there's one piece that I'm not sure how to obtain: does anyone know of a well known person who has taken a personality test (perhaps the MMPI) and the results of the test are obtainable? The person could be dead or alive. Could be a writer, politician, actor, etc. Appreciate the help, Michael Michael A.
