[TMIC] My anniversary
It's true when life gives us a hundred reasons to cry, we have to show life that we have a thousand reasons to smile. Sometimes God pushes us to our limits (and I am feeling stretched), HE tests us beyond our endurance because HE has greater faith in us than we have in ourselves so I am going to continue to trust. Today marks 11 years since I slipped into a coma and awoke to a life forever changed but I am not bitter. I've met so many wonderful friends here on TMIC and thanks for always being here to answer a question or give a pick-me up.

Thank you everyone and though still cloudy out, I am feeling much better today. I guess I just had to get 'my pity party' out but getting the cake done for my grandmother, encouraging words from you and a good night's sleep (and prayer) I'm back in for this fight called life..Ella
[TMIC] It's my birthday
Hello everyone, Today I am TM 10 and not sure of how I feel. The fact that it is cloudy out doesn't help either. Ten years ago I went into a coma and awoke weeks later not able to move anything, not even my head. Eventually I got everything back but my legs and what happened in the 90's. Am I depressed? I say I am but doctors don't think so, just a bit of sadness. I think I live 80% in my head so I don't dwell on the pain below and everything else that goes along with TM. Am I scared? Sometimes when I think yes this is my new life knowing how bad I want the old. You guys are a God-send and the support we give each other is beyond words. Thanks, I thought I was feeling sorry for myself but writing this made me feel better, have a great dayElla

Re: [TMIC] How to deal with isolation
I am 9+ years into my TM (paraplegic) and so miss my old self. I loved anything outdoors and my jobs let me do that also but that stopped after TM. Now thankfully I have great family and friends and I have to put them out just to get some quiet to do things I like like cooking, housework and reading. I choose to stay in most of the time now and during school I will tutor students but mainly it seems I am entertaining. And speaking of isolation, I speak with Dan (Montz) via computer and I feel he thinks we have forgotten Pam especially today being it is now 1 year since her passing and he occasionally reads our mail so if you could send him some encouragement I know he would appreciate it. Have a great day everyone.Ella
[TMIC] Re: new member
Hi Kelly Jean, Welcome to our world at TMIC. I can only answer a few of your questions. I've had TM for 9 years now but have not done acupuncture, reflexology or homeopathic meds. I had the solumedrol when I first got TM but don't remember as I was in a coma at my onset but I have not had any steroids since my release. If you look in the TMIC archives you will find a lot of answers there as well. My lesion is T-6 to T-10 and I am a paraplegic and yes, therapy and stretching does help. For me the tight banding has not eased at all nor has the stingy/buzzing feeling. I know what you meant when you talked about the water splashing on you, horrible but the meds my neurologist has me on is Neurontin, Ultram and Zanaflex. I am not thinking too clearly at the moment (sorry) but wanted to welcome you to our family, you are not alone.Ella

[TMIC] FROM JUDE
She can't post for some reason and asked that I send this for her: Hello there...anybody out there? Boy, I go into the hospital for a couple of weeks and this is what I come home to. I've heard about two sites where y'all might be hanging out, One is Yahoo and the other is a different type of site that I know nothing about, not even the name. Are there any new people with TM waiting around for some activity? My name is Jude; I am a T3 paraplegic, totally paralyzed from the nipple-line on down to my toes. I don't begin to say that I know everything, in fact, I know next to nothing...just like the doctors. If you have any questions or simply need someone to talk to send me an email and we will work it out. Try to keep it Positive! Jude **Worried about job security? She is fine, has to stay in bed for 4 weeks and then z-o-o-m she's out of here! She had written a long letter and will post it soon. She tanks us for the calls, cards and prayers. [TMIC] Judes Update
Hello Dear Ones, Why is there no mail in my mailbox? Have you all gone to that Face place? Are you at Yahoo? Can't I count on anyone any more? All I did was go into the hospital for a few days and when I get back, everyone seems to be gone. The List is like a ghost town... I would like to thank those of you who have taken the time and effort to send me lovely cards and beautiful notes. I will cherish them for a long time. The hospital is a lonely place and a card with well wishes goes a long way towards making the time pass a bit faster. Also, thank you to those of you who have called me to wish me well and to let me know I have been missed. You have no idea what you people mean to me. I hate naming names because I am afraid of leaving someone out, my memory is getting worse by the hour. So, I am not going to do that. You know who you are and how much I appreciate your signs of friendship...you keep me able to look at life as a glass half full, if you know what I mean. As some of you know, I have no family except for my wonderful husband, Dave. We moved miles away from our home town because Dave wanted property and shortly after I was stricken with TM...no chance to make friends with anyone. Like all of us, I was grasping at straws, trying to find something to give me a reason to live, something to hold on to. Finding this site, thanks to Jim Lubin, became my lifeline. You people became my family and I had somewhere to go where people understood what I was going through, how my life had done a 360' and in a heartbeat I didn't know who I was, where I fit in, if I even was worthwhile to life itself. Each and every one of you has given me a reason to continue living. You make me think, you make me lol, you make me feel warm and comforted when I'm in pity party mode. You graciously allow me to make mistakes and don't hold it against me, and I know that I can count on you to hold me up when I get too tired to tread water any longer. This Friday I go in for flap surgery on the ulcers on my behind. The plastic surgeon is not certain where he is going to find extra tissue to create the flap so the outcome is up in the air. He is going to shave the bony protubences of the ischeal tuberosities way down so that there will be less of a chance for them to penetrate the skin in the future. The research I have done online has not been optimistic. It sounds like in many cases the sites open back up in a relatively short period of time. And, I did not realize that complications due to pressure sores is the number one cause of death in paraplegics. In the future, my job will be to force myself to eat lots of protein and learn to move around when I'm sitting to allow freedom of blood flow and maintain oxygenation in the blood. No matter how hard I am being hugged around my abdomen, I have to find a way to eat. I don't know how to do that though. Dave and I are drinking those new fruit flavored protein waters which are supposed to be an excellent source of the good stuff. And they taste great, not all thick and gooey like Ensure and those kinds of drinks. I am overtired and cannot go to sleep. Things keep rolling around in my head...like what has happened to the List. As hard as Jim Lubin works, even though he is a quadriplegic, to keep this thing going and as much gumption it must have taken him to even begin a web site for us forsaken TM'ers, is absolutely amazing and I for one, will not jump ship for some site where supposedly the grass is greener. Maybe I will be here all by myself, though I know better, but that's ok because through you, my friends and family, I have learned to value myself again, know how to reach out for help when I need it, and I even understand how being a paraplegic has made me a better person, put things in the right perspective, humbled me just a bit. So, to those of you who make me laugh and have given life and hope to one lost old woman, thank you again. Hoping and Praying to wake up after surgery, Jude **Feeling the pinch at the grocery store? Re: [TMIC] Levothyroxine Sodium 50mg
Wow you have had excitement. I'm glad you broke nothing when you fell but I know that was a time you really wished for that warm bath. I know we take lots of meds with TM but what I would do if I was borderline about taking a new med, I'd ask the doctor if he had any samples of it to see if it did anything. Take care...Ella **Feeling the pinch at the grocery store? Make meals for Under $10. (http://food.aol.com/frugal-feasts?ncid=emlcntusfood0002)
