I second what Janice said, you betcha. Our daughter and son were each
married several years before Jim was struck with TM but I guarantee you that
either one of them would have ,chosen to have their Dad in there wedding even
with a stumble or two than to not have him there. I know our Jodi said of
DAD that TM didn't define him,it was just a name and he was still perfect

[TMIC] Place the states game

2010-08-12 Thread CJBJWB

I received this from a friend and copied and pasted the
link into the browser to make sure it is a safe site. It
presents a blank map of U.S. and one at a time a
picutre of a state that you must left drag your mouse
on place the state in the proper position in the map
of U.S. It is enjoyable, interesting, and quite difficult
as they states must be placed exactly in their proper
positions, difficult when starting out with midwestern
states on a blank mapG

[TMIC] July 2nd, I love this message written by Dalton.

2010-07-02 Thread CJBJWB

If I hadn’t had a belief that I was given a body and a life here in order
to grow a soul for the next life, I would have been emotionally finished,
since nothing makes sense if this is the only life. I believe that Dalton
has a very good handle on this life that all of you are dealing with and of
course I especially believe its true about my darling Jim because he surely
put a lot into his life and was a great example for many.So Dalton keep on
doing what you are doing and Naomi you are in my prayers as are all the
other valiant fighters of this disease. Carol Belz.

Although my Jims birthday is listed correctly as May 11th. He is

will be celebrating his life on that day this year as I will every May 11th
as long as I am alive. Thanks, Carol

2010-04-30 Thread CJBJWB
HI I am Carol in Michigan, Imlay City to be exact. I sure hope you get lots
of people to come to your meeting. It was such a pleasure for Jim and I
to get to meet and share with other TMers. Of course my feelings are divided
as my Jim went to be with God last September and that is a much better
place for him now, but I will still continue to go to the Michigan meetings as
long as they invite me and I am able, because they are all family to me
now. I am doing well and concentrating on my great memories. I consider
myself blessed.Carol

[TMIC] The Chiro

2010-04-01 Thread CJBJWB
Jim actually went to his chiro before he was officially diagnosed. Cliff
had been our chiropractor for some time. He is a wonderful caring guy and in
fact gave Jim a walker and sent us to the emergency room. He called several
times and after Jim was done with his inpatient therapy, he continued to
get treatments from Cliff when needed. The dragging of his right foot was
helped by the chiro and any other weird feelings. My vote would be give chiro
a try, and keep on moving. GOD BLESS all of you, CAROL

Greg your You tube video was wonderful and just what I needed this morning.
I have just made it thru the most wonderful time of the year but without
the most wonderful man in the world .I was sitting here on my computer
looking at all the many pictures and videos I had taken of my Jim almost daily
thru the 4 years he fought so bravely thru his challenge. He never gave up,
he just would find a new way and work on it til he managed it. I decided
to take a break for a bit and check email. I loved the video and especially
the music accompanying it.It went by too fast tho, is there a way to slow
it down so old eyes can read each page? I am hoping the New Year is a happy
one for us all. Carol Belz

Jim left his earthly pains and frustrations behind yesterday evening about
an hour after being transferred to a hospice house in Davison Michigan. Our

spend time with him before his death. I will forever be grateful for the 45
years Jim and I had together and for the wonderful children Jodi husband
Dave, their daughter Samantha, husband Steven and baby Samuel. Eric and wife
Cindy and their beautiful girls,Mackenzie,Sierra,Kaleigh, and Taylor. A

discouraged. I must find something in myself to encourage him. I want to grow

But this is what I would do. I would say, think I read it on this site but
don't remember who should get the credit. I have TM, but TM doesn't have
Me. Then I would say to anyone who is really interested and has email, If
you give me your email address I will share my story with you, but tonight
is not about me,its a celebration of our time together and the friendships
we had. I finally got Jim to go to his 50th reunion, with a walker, and he
wished he had gone to the others before. We had fun! Hope you decide to go,
Love ya carol and jim I will update on Jim tonight and as

they couldn't get a space for him, anytime soon. Flint was also ruled out,
we are hoping for Pontiac. They do have a bed but haven,t accepted him as
yet. This is definitely our prayer for today as we need to get him somewhere
that they can get him breathing on his own. We appreciate all the prayers
and concern for our hero. Please keep them coming. Love from Carol and

they will be able to wean him off of the ventilator there. It is in
Kalamazoo and so only 15 min from Cindy and Eric and our 4 little sunshines. I
will stay nights at their house and will love it. Keep the prayers flowing.
Love carol ps Jodi and Dave will be coming as well. Together our family

2009-06-18 Thread CJBJWB
This morning when I got to the hospital, they told me the Pulmonary

Ventilator, with no luck. The next step is to move him to an acute
pulmonary facility. It broke my heart, but I must focus on GOD as he knows
what is
best. We are thinking a place in Kalamazoo would be the best choice,
farther from Jodi and Dave, but they can do it easier than Eric and Cindy and
the

Re: [TMIC] ABOUT BANDING

Jim noticed the Banding around his upper stomach even before he was
diagnosed, and mentioned it to me several times. His discription was a tight
belt. I was sitting in his room at Henry Ford hosp. and when the head neuro
and several interns were discussing him out in the hall, I picked up on It
might be Transverse Myelitis As soon as I got home I got right to GOOGLE.
As soon as I read the tight banding I knew that was it. I called the neuro
and he said that was right and they already had him on steroids. That of
course was 4 years ago. He still mentioned it on occasion and of course now
he has a whole new kind of problems. I hope you all have a great day.I

and said they were moving Jim into ICU as they think he has Pneumonia. My
son and and 2 of our precious grandaughters drove about 3 hours to see Jim.
It was wonderful to see them and put sunshine in Jim's room. The ones that
came are the almost 8 yr old twins and mommy and the 11 yr old and 2 yr old
stayed home. They stayed overnight and we went to church this morning and
then went to the hospital after lunch to see granpa for a little while
before they had to head back home. There is still 5 days of school for all of
them. Daddy is a teacher. Anyway tomorrow morning early they are doing a

2009-05-17 Thread CJBJWB
Hi, Carol here, Jim Belz's secretary, such as I am,grateful for Spell
check.Jim is in the shower getting ready for church where today we will listen
to and vote on a new Pastor, A lady from Pennsylvania. We have been without a
full time minister for almost 2 years. Anyway we had a big day
yesterday,on the road for about 6 hrs to attend a first communion party for
our
beautiful twin grandaughters. Jim drove the 3hrs there and our son-in-law
drove
back home. We are lucky that he and our daughter live close enough to ride
with us to things like that. Anyway I just caught up on several notes to the
list and I sure agree with all of you about the wonderful people and the
great expanse of knowledge we can get. It reminds me of back in 2005 when
Jim was diagnosed and we were told only 2 people in a million get the
disease. WE were frantic and thought we would never find out anything, then
slowly
but surely, with the help of the internet we got a connection. We thank
God that we found you guys. I also want to post a note to Jude, I know it is
hard to get in a doctors face as so many of them think they are GOD or at
least one of his staff .However you write so eloquently that I think you
should try doing that. When you feel up to it ,try composing your thoughts
and the things that have frustrated you. I think sometimes doctors listen
better when they don't have to listen. I would make a couple copies, one for
you to keep and another for another doctor if you need one. Just my opinion
such as it is, Wepray for you daily. Send Love to you both, jim and carol

[TMIC] Jims surgery today at Port Huron General

2008-11-19 Thread CJBJWB
Jim had his gall bladder surgery today. All is well so far. Having TM really
makes a simple Laproscopic surgery a bit more of a challenge, just as having
had a radical prostatectomy makes TM more of a challenge. Jim has had an
artificial sphincter since 1992 as a result of the surgery. His nurses had no
idea what that was and that they would have to see, that he could void, so he
wouldn't explode .Anyway it was a real revelation for them. I am sure that as
soon as they let him have some solid food he will be ready to come home and
get back to his routine of riding the bike at the gym etc. Happy Thanksgiving
to all of you ,carol and jim

[TMIC] UPDATE ON JIM

2008-11-04 Thread CJBJWB
After more than a week of tests, because of a large spike in blood sugar and
a couple of episodes of severe gas and heartburn problems. The tests
included blood tests of course. He has not had any problem with elevated sugar
since
the beginning , caused by the IV steroids they used to stop his spinal cord
from expanding any further. Anyway the doctor did the blood test and from
that decided to do an upper GI. After that he did an ultrasound on his liver(
didn't like the sound of that) When he got the ultrasound results back he set
up a catscan and waited til he had those results before he told us the
ultrasound results. He didn't want to tell us those because they suggested a
possible tumor on the pancreas. By the catscan results it is almost certain
that it
is gall stones and we will be meeting with a surgeon tomorrow morning.
Naturally we are very happy that this is the diagnosis and are hoping they will
 be
able to do the scope procedure. I will keep you all posted as we find out
more. As always we appreciate prayers. Carol and Jim PS have any of you
in
ourTM family had any surgical procedures like this and have any stories to
share?

[TMIC] From a firend of mine- watch out for bogus gas pumps

2008-09-19 Thread CJBJWB
found this to be amazing , since only a few weeks ago I filled my little
ford Taurus. After I had filled it , which I shrugged it off, I told my son
and
the store clerk that I just pumped more gas into my car than it holds, also
the store clerk ignored my comment.

This is true. It happened to them three weeks ago somewhere in Pomona on
their way to Pechanga. The pump should have totaled @ $68.00 (and change).
When
the receipt was printed, and she checked it was $ 77.00 (and change).

She got mad, went inside the store, asked for a calculator and let them do
the math. They refunded her. She told them that if they cheat, they had better
make it right. Normally, her husband would skip printing the receipt. Not
her...

We saw on the news the other night that this is happening everywhere.

Brian pumped exactly one gallon of gas. The price did not match the cost of
one gallon. It was higher. He went inside and complained, got a refund.

There is also a number on each pump that you can call and complain.

This is a true story, so read it carefully.

On April 24, 2008, I stopped at a BP gas station in GA. My truck's gas
gauge was on 1/4 of a tank. I use the mid-grade, which was priced at $3.71 per
gallon. When my tank is at this point, it takes somewhere around 14 gallons
to fill it up.

When the pump showed 14 gallons had been pumped, I began to slow it down.
Then, to my surprise, it went to 15, then 16. I even looked under my
truck to see if it was being spilled. It was not.

Then it showed 17 gallons on the pump. It stopped at 18 gallons. This was
very strange to me, since my truck has only an 18 gallon tank. I went on my
way a little confused, then on the evening news I heard a report that 1 out
of 4 gas stations had calibrated their pumps to show more gas had been pumped
than a person actually got.

Here is how to check a pump to see if you are getting the right amount:

Whichever grade you are using, put EXACTLY 10 GALLONS in your tank, and
then look at the dollar amount. If the dollar amount is not EXACTLY 10 times
the price of the fuel you have chosen, then the pumps are rigged.

In my case, as I said, the mid-grade was $3.71 9/10 per gallon; my dollar
amount for 10 gallons should have been $37.19. I wish I had checked the
pump. It doesn't matter where you pump gas...please check the 10 gallon
price.
If you do find a station that is cheating, contact the state Agriculture
Department, and direct your comments to the Commissioner...the info is on the
gas pumps.

[TMIC] I REALLY WASN'T DRUNK Flu Shot.

2008-09-16 Thread CJBJWB
I just reread the note I sent earlier and imagine any who read it will
think I was drunk. Not so, a couple keys were sticking on my keyboard. Anyway
Jim
never had a flu shot because his father had gotten sick by one years ago.
After Jim was hit with TM, I was trying to convince him he should. I enlisted
the help of our doctor, but he agreed with Jim and said there was enough
unknown things going on in his body and suggested he not take a chance. We will
 use
the hint about vitamin D, both of us. Thanks. I really enjoy the LIST and
have started to compile index cards with info as I am new to the list and its
hard for me to keep track of who is who. I would love for anyone who is
willing to send me info on names. State where you reside and phone numbers if
you'd like. I have cheap long distance and would love to talk with anyone
who'd
like to share experiences with TM. [EMAIL PROTECTED] (mailto:[EMAIL

[TMIC] A new member Jim Belz, and his wife Carol, active Secretary

2007-08-08 Thread CJBJWB
It took me awhile to realize why I was getting emails from everyone to
everyone. I think it is a great idea and lets everyone know whats happening.
Jim
has had Tm since May of 2005. He spent a week in Henry Ford Hospital in
downtown Detroit, and then a month in Rehab at Marlette Hosp. When he left
there
he was still mainly in a wheelchair, but the ensuing outpatient therapy,
graduated him to a walker and he now can get around with a couple of canes
most of
the time. Jim is 68 yrs old, he had retired before this happened and was
having a great life playing golf 4 or 5 days a week, walking 18 holes each
time.
He was also working out at a gym 3 mornings a week. This happened to him
without a warning and within a week he was paralyzed from about the breastbone
down. I'm sure many of you were also frustrated at the difficulty at finding a
doctor familiar with this condition. We would love to get emails from each
of you with a short story about your experience with TM. Would also love to
know addresses and phone numbers. We live in Imlay City (that's between Flint
and Port Huron) address is 365 w 5th St. zip 48444. Email address
[EMAIL PROTECTED] (mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]) . Thanks hope to hear from you
soon, carol and
 jim
