I second what Janice said, you betcha. Our daughter and son were each married several years before Jim was struck with TM but I guarantee you that either one of them would have ,chosen to have their Dad in there wedding even with a stumble or two than to not have him there. I know our Jodi said of DAD that TM didn't define him,it was just a name and he was still perfect in their eyes, Cherish the memories
[TMIC] Place the states game
I received this from a friend and copied and pasted the link into the browser to make sure it is a safe site. It presents a blank map of U.S. and one at a time a picutre of a state that you must left drag your mouse on place the state in the proper position in the map of U.S. It is enjoyable, interesting, and quite difficult as they states must be placed exactly in their proper positions, difficult when starting out with midwestern states on a blank mapG _http://jimspages.com/States.htm_ (http://jimspages.com/States.htm)
[TMIC] July 2nd, I love this message written by Dalton.
If I hadn’t had a belief that I was given a body and a life here in order to grow a soul for the next life, I would have been emotionally finished, since nothing makes sense if this is the only life. I believe that Dalton has a very good handle on this life that all of you are dealing with and of course I especially believe its true about my darling Jim because he surely put a lot into his life and was a great example for many.So Dalton keep on doing what you are doing and Naomi you are in my prayers as are all the other valiant fighters of this disease. Carol Belz.
[TMIC] correction on May Birthdays
Although my Jims birthday is listed correctly as May 11th. He is celebrating his birthdays in Heaven now as he passed away on September 9th, 2009. I will be celebrating his life on that day this year as I will every May 11th as long as I am alive. Thanks, Carol
Re: [TMIC] Tm SUPPORT GROUP MEETING
HI I am Carol in Michigan, Imlay City to be exact. I sure hope you get lots of people to come to your meeting. It was such a pleasure for Jim and I to get to meet and share with other TMers. Of course my feelings are divided as my Jim went to be with God last September and that is a much better place for him now, but I will still continue to go to the Michigan meetings as long as they invite me and I am able, because they are all family to me now. I am doing well and concentrating on my great memories. I consider myself blessed.Carol
[TMIC] The Chiro
Jim actually went to his chiro before he was officially diagnosed. Cliff had been our chiropractor for some time. He is a wonderful caring guy and in fact gave Jim a walker and sent us to the emergency room. He called several times and after Jim was done with his inpatient therapy, he continued to get treatments from Cliff when needed. The dragging of his right foot was helped by the chiro and any other weird feelings. My vote would be give chiro a try, and keep on moving. GOD BLESS all of you, CAROL
[TMIC] Today is the first day of the rest of our lives
Greg your You tube video was wonderful and just what I needed this morning. I have just made it thru the most wonderful time of the year but without the most wonderful man in the world .I was sitting here on my computer looking at all the many pictures and videos I had taken of my Jim almost daily thru the 4 years he fought so bravely thru his challenge. He never gave up, he just would find a new way and work on it til he managed it. I decided to take a break for a bit and check email. I loved the video and especially the music accompanying it.It went by too fast tho, is there a way to slow it down so old eyes can read each page? I am hoping the New Year is a happy one for us all. Re: [TMIC] Age
OK you two! Which one of you used to live in the others school district? I know my problem started when my children brought home the new Math and tried to explain it to me. Its almost up to 30* so I am wrapping up my bronchitus affected body and getting some Christmas lights up. The sun is shining and that helps me. Merry Christmas carol
[TMIC] December Birthdays
I will be celebrating Our Saviors birth and knowing that my Jim is without pain and is hearing the Herald Angels sing in person. I know he would want me and all of you to keep up the fight and give everyone more hugs this year. I will be with my little girls, yea!!! GOD BLESS THE BIRTHDAY KIDS, AND THE REST OF YOU TOO! Carol Belz
[TMIC] My beloved husband Jim
Jim left his earthly pains and frustrations behind yesterday evening about an hour after being transferred to a hospice house in Davison Michigan. Our children and grandchildren and Alice and Ron,and Mary were all able to spend time with him before his death. I will forever be grateful for the 45 years Jim and I had together and for the wonderful children Jodi husband Dave, their daughter Samantha, husband Steven and baby Samuel. Eric and wife Cindy and their beautiful girls,Mackenzie,Sierra,Kaleigh, and Taylor. A memorial will be held on Saturday Sept.12th at 11:00am at First Congregational Church corner of Fifth and Bancroft, luncheon following. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Transverse Myelitis Assoc. for research to help fight the disease that Jim fought so valiantly to conquer. In the end it was a stroke that took his life.
[TMIC] My wonderful husband Jim
Please continue your prayers for Jim, but change them a bit and pray for his journey up to the arms of our GOD. TM didn't overcome him and he would want all of you to keep up the fight against it. He would have still been fighting it, but the effects of his stroke and all the excruciating pain from the side effects, slowly wore him down. He is comfortable now was able to see our kids and the wonderful grandaughters. We have been with him everyday but we do come home to sleep. GOD BLESS YOU. He loved me reading the list entries and felt like he knew many of you. I will keep in touch or at least try. carol and jim TIAD
[TMIC] Update on Jim
We are still in a holding pattern and has been getting harder for me to keep up my hopes. But have decided today I will BELIEVE. I will be heading down to Pontiac soon and will present my case, again, to both hospitals( the one he is in and the one I am hoping he will be in. He is getting very discouraged. I must find something in myself to encourage him. I want to grow old with him. I know some of my friends would say I already have, but there is still time for more. Please enjoy every minute you have. Keep the prayers coming. carol and jim
[TMIC] update on Jim
I will be on my way to Pontiac soon, yes Jim is still there, and yes he is not a happy patient, He wants to get this show on the road. It is hard to keep telling to be patient. We both need your prayers and we thank you for them. til next time.Praying for each of you.
[TMIC] Update on Jim
Wish I had something more definite to tell but this is what I know for sure. Jim is still in the Select Speciality hospital in Pontiac,Mi. They are telling me he is almost definitely going to be transferred to Marlette Hospital which is only 22 miles from home instead of about 65. He has an infection which they are monitoring. I am pulling for this as I have very good feelings about this place. Please say a few more prayers for him as we will continue to for each of you. Our love, carol and jim TIAD
Re: [TMIC] Class Reunions
Since I am a caregiver and not with TM, my response may be a bit different. But this is what I would do. I would say, think I read it on this site but don't remember who should get the credit. I have TM, but TM doesn't have Me. Then I would say to anyone who is really interested and has email, If you give me your email address I will share my story with you, but tonight is not about me,its a celebration of our time together and the friendships we had. I finally got Jim to go to his 50th reunion, with a walker, and he wished he had gone to the others before. We had fun! Hope you decide to go, Love ya carol and jim I will update on Jim tonight and as always Thanks for your prayers **Make your summer sizzle with fast and easy recipes for the grill. Re: [TMIC] arts
Hope you have Jim and I on the list to send your pictures to, would love to see them. Jim is now inPontiac at a Select Speciality Hospital inside St Joseph Mercy Hosp. He is getting aggressive respiratory therapy, and a start on physical therapy. Of course he is just like a wet noodle after only being shifted several times a day for over 3 weeks. He still needs lots of prayers but is ready for the fight he has ahead of him. **Make your summer sizzle with fast and easy recipes for the grill. (http://food.aol.com/grilling?ncid=emlcntusfood0005)
[TMIC] Please keep praying for Jim
It is the morning of June 26th.This means tonight will be 3 weeks that Jim has been in the hospital. He is getting weaker but still strongly fighting to get thru this. We have given up on the pulmonary place in Kalamazoo as they couldn't get a space for him, anytime soon. Flint was also ruled out, we are hoping for Pontiac. They do have a bed but haven,t accepted him as yet. This is definitely our prayer for today as we need to get him somewhere that they can get him breathing on his own. We appreciate all the prayers and concern for our hero. Please keep them coming. Love from Carol and everyone of our family and friends who love him. **Make your summer sizzle with fast and easy recipes for the grill. (http://food.aol.com/grilling?ncid=emlcntusfood0005)
[TMIC] Short update on Jim 6/24
Jim is doing a bit better, but I will be really feel better when he is on his way to the pulmonary fixing place. He has been accepted there but they do not have a bed as yet. We have heard good reports from there and believe they will be able to wean him off of the ventilator there. It is in Kalamazoo and so only 15 min from Cindy and Eric and our 4 little sunshines. I will stay nights at their house and will love it. Keep the prayers flowing. Love carol ps Jodi and Dave will be coming as well. Together our family can keep Jim working towards health, **Huge Savings on Popular Laptops only at Dell.com. Shop Now! [TMIC] MORE PRAYERS NEEDED NOW
This morning when I got to the hospital, they told me the Pulmonary director wanted to talk to me. They have tried several times to wean him from the Ventilator, with no luck. The next step is to move him to an acute pulmonary facility. It broke my heart, but I must focus on GOD as he knows what is best. We are thinking a place in Kalamazoo would be the best choice, farther from Jodi and Dave, but they can do it easier than Eric and Cindy and the 4 girls. I believe this is the best choice and these facilities have very good track records. I love you all. Pray for Jim and Me and the care givers. carol **Dell Days of Deals! [TMIC] Update on my honey
This is a red letter day. Today is the first day that I can say I really believe the words I've been professing each day. I believe he is going to make it. Re: [TMIC] ABOUT BANDING
Jim noticed the Banding around his upper stomach even before he was diagnosed, and mentioned it to me several times. His discription was a tight belt. I was sitting in his room at Henry Ford hosp. and when the head neuro and several interns were discussing him out in the hall, I picked up on It might be Transverse Myelitis As soon as I got home I got right to GOOGLE. As soon as I read the tight banding I knew that was it. I called the neuro and he said that was right and they already had him on steroids. That of course was 4 years ago. He still mentioned it on occasion and of course now he has a whole new kind of problems. I hope you all have a great day.I will keep you posted, love and GOD BLESS carol **A Good Credit Score is 700 or Above. See yours in just 2 easy steps! [TMIC] Update on JIM and so sad about Pam,
Got home from the hospital this evening and as I usually do,sat down in front of the computer to see what had been written today. How sad but also happy to know that Pam has been called home into the loving arms of the GOD that she loves so much. I also will miss her writings to the list and the TIAD that I didn't figure out for some time. This morning the hospital called and said they were moving Jim into ICU as they think he has Pneumonia. My son and and 2 of our precious grandaughters drove about 3 hours to see Jim. It was wonderful to see them and put sunshine in Jim's room. The ones that came are the almost 8 yr old twins and mommy and the 11 yr old and 2 yr old stayed home. They stayed overnight and we went to church this morning and then went to the hospital after lunch to see granpa for a little while before they had to head back home. There is still 5 days of school for all of them. Daddy is a teacher. Anyway tomorrow morning early they are doing a bronchialscopy test. I will kepp you posted and we thank you for your prayers. carol **An Excellent Credit Score is 750. [TMIC] Sunday May 17th 2009
Hi, Carol here, Jim Belz's secretary, such as I am,grateful for Spell check.Jim is in the shower getting ready for church where today we will listen to and vote on a new Pastor, A lady from Pennsylvania. We have been without a full time minister for almost 2 years. Anyway we had a big day yesterday,on the road for about 6 hrs to attend a first communion party for our beautiful twin grandaughters. Jim drove the 3hrs there and our son-in-law drove back home. We are lucky that he and our daughter live close enough to ride with us to things like that. Anyway I just caught up on several notes to the list and I sure agree with all of you about the wonderful people and the great expanse of knowledge we can get. It reminds me of back in 2005 when Jim was diagnosed and we were told only 2 people in a million get the disease. WE were frantic and thought we would never find out anything, then slowly but surely, with the help of the internet we got a connection. We thank God that we found you guys. I also want to post a note to Jude, I know it is hard to get in a doctors face as so many of them think they are GOD or at least one of his staff .However you write so eloquently that I think you should try doing that. When you feel up to it ,try composing your thoughts and the things that have frustrated you. I think sometimes doctors listen better when they don't have to listen. I would make a couple copies, one for you to keep and another for another doctor if you need one. Just my opinion such as it is, Wepray for you daily. Send Love to you both, jim and carol **A strong credit score is 700 or above. See Yours in Just 2 Easy Steps! [TMIC] using a T.E.N.S try unit
Hi friends, I just read the message about being told it was bogus to use an electric shock like device. My husband jim has had TM since May 2005. A church friend who is a physical therapist suggested Jim try it, we had a tens unit from awhile back to help with pain. George told Jim where to place the pads to help the hamstring. A 3hr BLUZ bros concert in Lapeer ( a small town 13miles away) This is a group from Chicago and a group from Lapeer have turned an old Movie theatre into a wonderrful place where they put on plays and musical productions. [TMIC] Jims surgery today at Port Huron General
Jim had his gall bladder surgery today. All is well so far. Having TM really makes a simple Laproscopic surgery a bit more of a challenge, just as having had a radical prostatectomy makes TM more of a challenge. Jim has had an artificial sphincter since 1992 as a result of the surgery. His nurses had no idea what that was and that they would have to see, that he could void, so he wouldn't explode .Anyway it was a real revelation for them. I am sure that as soon as they let him have some solid food he will be ready to come home and get back to his routine of riding the bike at the gym etc. Happy Thanksgiving to all of you ,carol and jim **One site has it all. [TMIC] UPDATE ON JIM
After more than a week of tests, because of a large spike in blood sugar and a couple of episodes of severe gas and heartburn problems. The tests included blood tests of course. He has not had any problem with elevated sugar since the beginning , caused by the IV steroids they used to stop his spinal cord from expanding any further. Anyway the doctor did the blood test and from that decided to do an upper GI. After that he did an ultrasound on his liver( didn't like the sound of that) When he got the ultrasound results back he set up a catscan and waited til he had those results before he told us the ultrasound results. He didn't want to tell us those because they suggested a possible tumor on the pancreas. By the catscan results it is almost certain that it is gall stones and we will be meeting with a surgeon tomorrow morning. Naturally we are very happy that this is the diagnosis and are hoping they will be able to do the scope procedure. I will keep you all posted as we find out more. As always we appreciate prayers. [TMIC] From a firend of mine- watch out for bogus gas pumps
found this to be amazing , since only a few weeks ago I filled my little ford Taurus. After I had filled it , which I shrugged it off, I told my son and the store clerk that I just pumped more gas into my car than it holds, also the store clerk ignored my comment. This is true. It happened to them three weeks ago somewhere in Pomona on their way to Pechanga. The pump should have totaled @ $68.00 (and change). When the receipt was printed, and she checked it was $ 77.00 (and change). She got mad, went inside the store, asked for a calculator and let them do the math. They refunded her. She told them that if they cheat, they had better make it right. Normally, her husband would skip printing the receipt. Not her... We saw on the news the other night that this is happening everywhere. Brian pumped exactly one gallon of gas. The price did not match the cost of one gallon. It was higher. He went inside and complained, got a refund. There is also a number on each pump that you can call and complain. This is a true story, so read it carefully. On April 24, 2008, I stopped at a BP gas station in GA. My truck's gas gauge was on 1/4 of a tank. I use the mid-grade, which was priced at $3.71 per gallon. When my tank is at this point, it takes somewhere around 14 gallons to fill it up. When the pump showed 14 gallons had been pumped, I began to slow it down. Then, to my surprise, it went to 15, then 16. I even looked under my truck to see if it was being spilled. It was not. Then it showed 17 gallons on the pump. It stopped at 18 gallons. This was very strange to me, since my truck has only an 18 gallon tank. I went on my way a little confused, then on the evening news I heard a report that 1 out of 4 gas stations had calibrated their pumps to show more gas had been pumped than a person actually got. Here is how to check a pump to see if you are getting the right amount: Whichever grade you are using, put EXACTLY 10 GALLONS in your tank, and then look at the dollar amount. If the dollar amount is not EXACTLY 10 times the price of the fuel you have chosen, then the pumps are rigged. In my case, as I said, the mid-grade was $3.71 9/10 per gallon; my dollar amount for 10 gallons should have been $37.19. I wish I had checked the pump. It doesn't matter where you pump gas...please check the 10 gallon price. If you do find a station that is cheating, contact the state Agriculture Department, and direct your comments to the Commissioner...the info is on the gas pumps. **Looking for simple solutions to your real-life financial challenges? [TMIC] I REALLY WASN'T DRUNK Flu Shot.
I just reread the note I sent earlier and imagine any who read it will think I was drunk. Not so, a couple keys were sticking on my keyboard. Anyway Jim never had a flu shot because his father had gotten sick by one years ago. After Jim was hit with TM, I was trying to convince him he should. I enlisted the help of our doctor, but he agreed with Jim and said there was enough unknown things going on in his body and suggested he not take a chance. We will use the hint about vitamin D, both of us. Thanks. I really enjoy the LIST and have started to compile index cards with info as I am new to the list and its hard for me to keep track of who is who. I would love for anyone who is willing to send me info on names. State where you reside and phone numbers if you'd like. I have cheap long distance and would love to talk with anyone who'd like to share experiences with TM. [EMAIL PROTECTED] (mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]) Jim is my husband with TM, I am Carol. I have been getting this tmic-digests and we are finding them very interesting, but I have a hard time keeping the messages straight. There are usually at least two and sometimes 3 duplicates of the letters, and include all kinds of jibberish. I can't figure out who is who. Is that just the way it is or am I getting the wrong format? Any help you can give me would be much appreciated Thank you carol **Vote for your city's best dining and nightlife. City's Best 2008. [TMIC] A new member Jim Belz, and his wife Carol, active Secretary
It took me awhile to realize why I was getting emails from everyone to everyone. I think it is a great idea and lets everyone know whats happening. Jim has had Tm since May of 2005. He spent a week in Henry Ford Hospital in downtown Detroit, and then a month in Rehab at Marlette Hosp. When he left there he was still mainly in a wheelchair, but the ensuing outpatient therapy, graduated him to a walker and he now can get around with a couple of canes most of the time. Jim is 68 yrs old, he had retired before this happened and was having a great life playing golf 4 or 5 days a week, walking 18 holes each time. He was also working out at a gym 3 mornings a week. This happened to him without a warning and within a week he was paralyzed from about the breastbone down. I'm sure many of you were also frustrated at the difficulty at finding a doctor familiar with this condition. We would love to get emails from each of you with a short story about your experience with TM. Would also love to know addresses and phone numbers. We live in Imlay City (that's between Flint and Port Huron) address is 365 w 5th St. zip 48444. Email address [EMAIL PROTECTED] (mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]) . Thanks hope to hear from you soon, carol and jim ** Get a sneak peek of the all-new AOL at http://discover.aol.com/memed/aolcom30tour
