I use Lactulose for 12 years now. It is good and safe. It keeps the bowel soft
and easy to come out. It contains natural sugers wich make the proces fastener.
If you use it a while you will notice that the bowel also hardly smell. It
makes you more windy as normal, but because the fast process, here also no
smell.

I started with Lactulose, after a bowel bloccade, wich kept me in hospital for
a week, and very painfull. In Hospital they gave me 90ml a day, during the
bloccade. After that they recommand that I went on with Lactolose. Now I use
normaly 30ml ones a day. But because of the fishoil I also take, it went up to
50ml a day. Take it just before a meal and some drink after. It workes very
well.

Years ago, the doctor prescribed LACTULOSE to my mother after she had a stroke
leaving her with major problems including a horrible case of constipation. He
said that it doesn't irritate your bowels.

Wondering if any of you even heard of it.

Kevin, I would like to hear more about the herb you recommend.

The sterorids were causing serious problems with constipation and not being able to "push" my Nero turned me on to a Herbal Tea called "Smoth Move" you can get it at any vitaman/herb shop. It's natural and great, does not upset your stomach (like a lot of pill and vegetable do), does not react to fast, and you can drink the amount your comfortable with. (Full cup was to much for me so 1/2 everyday.)

I am affected up to my collarbone and it has affected my digestion. Regular fiber has the opportunity to move so slowly through me it dries up and creates aplug that becomes very dangerous. You canhave a piece of your intestine die and it will kill you quicker than you can believe. I use reglan (metoclopramide)to help my stomach empty. I use Miralax aka glycolax butnow generic(polyethylene glycol 3350) to move things through the pipe. It is not fiber, it is not absorbed by the body, it just slicks things along. You do have to adjust it as you get used to it so you don't have a blowout, but I just figured out how much to take depending on how much food I eat and it works great.I've been on this for about four or five years. I tried the other treatments and had so much trouble with cramps, lack of action and variability that this has been a dream for me. Best of luck.

Regina, my dr recommended Lactulose. It is a thick liquid (like cough syrup)
tastes of oranges. It is mild but it works for me every time within about 8
hrs. I don't need to use as often as in the early days of TM but I wouldn't be
without it. Where I live, it is not sold on the shelf but behind the pharmacy
desk.

Since I take HIV medications that does cause diarrhea so bad that even Imodium
didn't help. So now I'm on one daily dose of Calcium tablet. I had tried two
a day that cause constipation and one every other day cause diarrhea. The
doses may different from person to person and TM to TM.

I got C-diff, can't remember the real name for it, but it totally messed up
my gut and I had diarrhea for 2 months straight. I had the same problems that
you expressed. I can relate to the horror that you go through, and I still
suffer from this. This occured from the use of too many antibiotics when I was
getting pneumonia several times per year. My system is still very touchy, and
the doc says my system will most likely never be back to normal. I take
probiotics to give myself the best shot that I can at a healthy gut, and eat
yogurt almost every day.

Anyway, anytime that I am having a flare-up with loose stools, which is a
few days a week at least, and it's a day that I have to go out, I always take
Ammodium which is supposed to help with diarrhea. It usually stops the
problem, or at least keeps me from having to use the bathroom for a few hours.
I never worry about constipation from it, as I don't have that problem.

Do you eat any rice...??? I've noticed that when I have a large bowl of
rice for supper, my bowels are firmer the next morning. Bobberino

constipation/diarrhea

  Hi,
When I first got tm,I took 2 laxatives and 3 stool softeners daily.I did
that for a couple of years, then everything worked O.K. on its' own.
Then I had some bloody stools, had a colonoscopy that showed no problems
and was fine for a few years.
Now,I've got diarrhea 2-4 times a day that I can't hold back long enough
to get to a bathroom.
If I have to go somewhere I eat 5-6 bananas just to be able to leave the
house for a short time.
I would rather have constipation, cuz I wouldn't have to worry about going
unexpectedly, and could take a laxative if I needed to.
I think I'll try the metamucil, and hope it works.
