Cheryl my husband always got his meds from Canada before we had prescription
coverage with Medicare. We were always satisfied with the quality and speed
of delivery. The price was about ½ of the cost here in the USA. I have
recommended Canada drugs to anyone who hits the donut hole or is close to
it.

I just got my first med from Canada. It's a generic form of Diovan called
valsartan, for high blood pressure. It also helps protect the kidneys
(important because I'm also diabetic). It costs $70+14 for shipping for a 3
month supply. The first order has a $10 off coupon.
The best part is by not using my insurance,I will save and not hit the
'donut hole' this year. The co-pay is the same that my insurance charges for
a tier 1 drug. The drug is made in India. I just read the info on 2 other
meds I get and 1 is made in India, and 1 in Israel.
All the other meds I take are generic, except insulin.

And;

Don't forget Lyrica, which is pregabalin, is terrific on nerve pain. It
used to feel as if my skin were being torn off before I used Lyrica. Some
persons do not tolerate the side effects of poor balance and some
drowsiness, but compared to the side effects of many of the other
alternatives it's not bad.

I am professor of economics and do a lot of sitting and working and I did
not see an increase in sleepiness as compared to before taking Lyrica. But
I admit to drinking a lot of coffee to stay alert.

By the way, friends, I have had to give up driving because the bouts of
spasms and mild seizures have made it impossible now. They are in the back,
shoulders and diaphragm, and leave me momentarily dazed and confused, and
are sometimes brought on by just trying to speak. (What about continuing
teaching duties at the college? Good question. I don't know how this will
end.)

Frank is right about the ineffectiveness of the pain meds they are
giving you- like barking up the wrong tree. I asked the members of
this group to tell me what their doctors prescribed (and in what
dosages) and shared the list with my DR. She put me on 75 mg lyrica
2x a day and gave me 100 mg amantadine (morning and noon) to
counteract the drowsiness side effect and it has really made life
bearable.

Lyrica took some getting used to: I had nausea for a week and didn't
get full effectiveness for 2 weeks but it was worth it.

I take just one thing for nerve pain and well being and that's low dose
naltrexone.

I was without it for a week, because my neurologist refused to extend my
prescription without seeing her.
Last time I saw her in April of 09, she did nothing for me and she charged
about $475.
Her office is about a half a mile away and I live in a town with no paratransit
-- there's
no way fro me to get to the office. There was once an occasional schedule a ride
to doctor service, but that has disappeared (another long sad story). Anyway I
got
a bit exercised with the staff and said if she made house calls, I was ready to
see her, but until or unless they could arrange transportation--- after all she
is the neurologist and should understand
about being paralyzed and in a wheelchair-- couldn't they just call in my
script. they did, finally and set up an appointment for tomorrrow which I've
just had to cancell because there is no way for me to get there.

All this by way of saying I wasn't sure what it did ( I had forgotten) until i
was without it again. It's  been
hard to regulate body temperature,  I felt stabbing pains in my behind and
pressure in my legs, like
tubes being squeezed and stomped on--- of course this is all from the inside
out, as I cannot feel touch.

The script arrived Monday, so I'm just getting back to  equilibrium again.

Craig,

I have taken Gabapentin/Neurontin since Sept 03, when I got TM.
I take 2400 mg in 4 divided doses at 7am, noon, 5pm, 10pm (or thereabouts).
This helps with the pain of burning/pins/needles feelings.
I did try to switch to the Lyrica as a replacement for the Gabapentin about 2
years ago however I was in the 7% (according to my neuro) that the swelling of
the legs and feet was a problem.

For the spasms I have taken Baclofen 40mg in 4 divided doses every day. I
started out at 80mg back in 03 but have managed to reduce it.

I know Frank doesn't care for these meds. However, we are each different in
our chemical makeup and require different meds. I was told a long time ago
through the TM Forum that these two meds were the first ones tried.

Hope this info helps you.

Do you have a pcp that will order it for you? Mine orders all my

I take just one thing for nerve pain and well being and that's low dose
naltrexone.

I was without it for a week, because my neurologist refused to extend
my prescription without seeing her.
Last time I saw her in April of 09, she did nothing for me and she
charged about $475.
Her office is about a half a mile away and I live in a town with no
paratransit -- there's
no way fro me to get to the office. There was once an occasional
schedule a ride
to doctor service, but that has disappeared (another long sad story).
Anyway I got
a bit exercised with the staff and said if she made house calls, I was
ready to see her, but until or unless they could arrange transportation---
after all she is the neurologist and should understand
about being paralyzed and in a wheelchair-- couldn't they just call in
my script. they did, finally and set up an appointment for tomorrrow which I've
just had to cancell because there is no way for me to get there.

All this by way of saying I wasn't sure what it did ( I had forgotten)
until i was without it again. It's been
hard to regulate body temperature, I felt stabbing pains in my behind
and pressure in my legs, like
tubes being squeezed and stomped on--- of course this is all from the
inside out, as I cannot feel touch.

The script arrived Monday, so I'm just getting back to equilibrium
again.

Also has anyone taken altitude medication for trips to very high places?
How did you do on them?

the prirformis muscles. Those are the ones that sit right above le butt, and
start to run up the spine. Anyhoo, My wife said her Uncle Smiley swore by
something called DeWitt's Pills. I went and got some at the drug store, $4.95
for 12. I took two as directed, and lo and behold, after 12 years the pain
subsided.. Now, I'm not saying this is a cureall, but after many presccription

a little blue from time to time but I'll take that over the pain. Enjoy.

I believe that can happen with the patches. I was wearing them and was

Anyone ever get prescribed Amantadine? My Neuro prescribed it for me to
help with my fatigue problems. I looked it up on line, it mentioned
that it is a drug for Parkinson's disease. I am taking 100mg twice per
day, Monday - Friday. It does seem to help with fatigue, and also makes
my legs feel lighter(?). I have not seen any discussions of it here on
this site. Anyone ever hear of it?

I tried Lyrica about a year ago, did not like the side effects... then
decided I probably did not give it a chance so tried it again. I have
been on two 75mg. twice a day. I've decided I don't like it at all. It
makes my legs so numb that I cannot feel them. My feet I think I've
picked them up to walk but I haven't so I trip. The pain is definitely
less but from my knees down I feel as tho I have two blocks of heavy
cement. So, after 2 1/2 months I have decided to go back to Neurontin. I
am also on Cymbalta. I started both meds at the same time so I don't
know if the Cymbalta is helping or not. It has helped with my
depression, not sure about pain? So I'm going to slowly go off the
lyrica and stay on Cymbalta at least for awhile.
Now I know others on the list really like lyrica... like any med it
works for some and not for others. You have to give a try for yourself.
Let us know how it goes... What were some of your side effects of
Cymbalta??
