Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Last few seconds of song being cut off...
Tony, you can raise the bug yourself at http://bugs.slimdevices.com/ the best way to help is to be very specific with your details so that others (notably QA at Logitech but also interested users/devs) can replicate and confirm. that means including as many variables as you can (type of file, size of library, type of USB drive, number of players, sync or not). logfiles may also help if they show something. teh bug process is in a sticky http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=74846 I suspect I've experienced the same problem, but wasn't paying enough attention to confirm and its inconsistent with me. I'm having lots of other problems which may be overloading the CPU and therefore this may be another symptom but could equally be unrelated. If I capture anything I'll hunt down and add to your bug. others can add their experiences and vote. I use Squeezebox Server (7.5.0-r30464) Touch (7.5.0-r8673) Receiver (Firmware: 65) Controller (7.5.0-r8673) Since my update from 7.3 to 7.5 I have following problem with cover arts at the Controller (and on my new Touch too), but not at the Server on the computer: Mix-Album, e.g. Norah-Jones Mix, with different songs from different CDs. Each MP3-song has its own integrated cover art, depending of the original CD. The songs for this Mix are stored in one folder Norah-Jones Mix and all songs tagged as the same album Norah-Jones Mix, so they appear in Squeezebox Server in one album Norah-Jones Mix. When I play this album: - at the Server on the computer I see in the playlist the different songs with their individual (different) cover - on the Touch and on the Controller I see for all songs in the playlist only the same cover of the first song ?! The now playing cover is for all songs the same (the first cover of playlist/mix album). This behaviour is new on the Controller since my update to 7.5.0. When I choose in the menue of the Controller (or Touch) for one song show cover art then the correct cover art is shown?! Frankly I'm surprised I haven't seen more threads around the internet regarding the text size of the Touch. I don't know how most are using the Touch, but I would have expected many to use them with a stereo system sitting in an audio rack. For me, this means I sit about 12' away from the Touch which makes the screen basically useless even with the large text skin currently built in. I find this VERY unfortunate. I currently own a Duet and I frequently use my laptop to control it. While this means I don't really *need* to view the Touch's screen, it's just another aspect of the Touch that seems to have failed. I'm very close to returning the Touch and just stick with my Duet. It would be nice to know that something could be done to make the text more viewable from a distance. This would seem to not be a very difficult task. -- TJHUB TJHUB's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38002 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=78217 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Have you actually seen the Touch? Depending on your eyes and the room lighting it might be fine at 12', although I would guess that would be true for only a minority of users. For me 12' is borderline but do-able if the room isn't too bright. I'm struggling to see it sometimes I could see the SB3 just fine and i did not use its largest font ? But no setting on Touch can match the SB3 in visibility at a distance. I could read the text on my SB3 from anywhere in my living room. Using a completely black background instead of a fancy picture helps. I judge that if SB3 is 100% the Touch is visible from 60-65% of the distance and in somewhat narrower angle both horizontally and vertically . Thats is one area where the SB3 actually was better. Otherwise I think Touch is a good device in it's own rights. This requires mounting LVDS driver and receivers in the vicinity of the Touch DAC or processor. In the receiver I was also able to mount a DVI connector on the box. It seems like the room for this may not exist inside the Touch. (The receiver is WONDERFULLY spacious) John, you have the most experience with the insides of the Touch. Any room for such mods? If not, I will likely want to pull out the receiver circuit board to mount elsewhere (sacrificing the controller - I am very happy with SlimControl on my Windows phone and don't really use the Touch controller). I have also experienced what you are describing. So I can confirm it. But I'm not sure it is a bug. I would consider it deliberate behaviour. Since you are playing an album, but there are multiple covers to choose from, the device chooses the cover art of the first track and considers this to be the cover belonging to this album. Clicking 'Next' will nudge it onto the next song and things will be OK until the next time it fails. I have attached a Touch log - the music stopped playing twice in this log. Can any one decipher this, I can't really spot what might be the problem. There are no entries in the SBS log over this time. +---+ |Filename: messages.log | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=9836| +---+ -- elziko elziko's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11835 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=78292 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Music being cut off
Watch the servers cpu usage during this. How large are this playlist ? And on random mix how is the setting for how many songs to show ? Try the default 10/10 or similar. Try not to press shuffle with a large playlist. I would recommend to use erlands plugins for playlists if you have a Touch. Then you can random from your previously saved large playlists without problems ( keeping the settings on how many to show at 10-20 something). Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] how to open up the squeezebox touch?
There IS I2S inside. The S/PDIF and I2S come directly out of the processor. They both go through reclocker flops. I don't remember if all the signals on the I2S are reclocked or just one of the clock signals. There is a quarter inch or so between the main board and the back case so thin boards can be added. As long as the board has SMD chips and caps (no electrolytics that stick up from the board) you should be able to add boards. I would just mount them with insulating double stick tape to the existing board. Jack, I'm planing on doing exactly the same thing, a small board with LVDS interfaces to feed the clocks and take the I2S out. It worked fine on the SB3. For the SB3 I just ran a pigtail cable (the rolled up twisted pair IDC cable) through one of the holes after I took out the connector. Something similar could be done with the Touch. The connectors for the FPCs have a latch which is on the front of the connector. Look at the part of the connector where the FPC enters, that part is actually on a hinge. You need to take a small flat blade screw driver and pry up that front piece, it will rotate up out of the way. Once its up its obvious. You can then just pull the cable out. This is the easy part. The hard part is putting it back together. You have to feed the cable back in, properly lining it up, push it all the way in, and then rotate the latch back down. While holding both pieces of the assembly slightly apart and trying to squeeze your fingers down in the very narrow space between sections. Small hands help here! I don't know how they assemble this in the factory! Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Does the Controller also work for the Touch?
You can even do weird things like have the contoller control the player in the Touch while the screen on the Touch is controlling another player! The Controller even has a player builtin (which drives the headphone jack), at one point just to see if it would work I had the Controller controlling the Touch player and the Touch screen controlling the Controller player! It worked. Logically you can think of the Touch as having three pieces, a controller, a player, and a server. In normal use these are connected together but they don't HAVE to be. Any or all of these can be disconnected from each other and used across the network with other squeeze devices in pretty much any configuration you want. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] how to open up the squeezebox touch?
Thanks John, I wonder if you have decided whether to use your existing clocks and add a clock doubler to output to the Touch or to use double frequency clocks? I am tempted to use a clock doubler, which would be jittery, but since I am reclocking the final output to the DAC anyway with the receiver-frequency clocks, it shouldn't matter in the end. All the clock doubler circuits I know require a perfect square wave (50% duty cycle) input. My Tent clocks are not specified for duty cycle, but they look good on the scope. I wonder how sensitive you think the Touch processor is to clock jitter, and whether a doubler circuit would be good enough? Thanks for your help. I've had a little while with the Touch as well and it's been generally positive. Here are my notes; 1) There's an increase in sound quality on all fronts; as a drive in to my DAC and from the analogue outs. 2) The touchscreen functionality and menu system works well. 3) It feels better made than the Duet. 4) Using a USB drive, it all slows down enormously. I'm using a 0.75 tb Western Digital My Passport drive with a D Link hub (for power). My impression is that it slows down as the size of the database gets larger. I'm expecting this to improve in later iterations of the firmware. 5) Installation was very quick. Barely ten minutes and it was working with the database on the PC. 6) I've had no networking problems (using Belkin N+ router). Generally very good. The only thing that really needs work is the speed of Tiny SBS with an hard disc. I wonder if anyone has tried with other types of hard drive? Looking at the log file it looks like you have a major network connectivity issue. Many times the Touch looses cits connection to your server, it tries a couple times to reconnect, gives up and tries to connect to mysqueezebox.com, cant connect there either, gives up and tries your server again, it connects! Starts playing a song, looses connection, goes through the process over again. A few times is got messages from other player in the house that they also lost connection. So its not just the Touch. Its a little tough to figure out whether its the server or the network. I'm leaning towards the network since it couldn't connect to mysqueezebox.com either. If there was no problem with the network I would expect it to have made connection to mysqueezebox.com. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Adjusting text size
I have near 20/20 eye sight so I can assure you that 12' away is not readable for most people. Logi-techs screwed up big time in the usability department. The cleverest bit of the original Squeezebox is the huge green one liner despite the small screen. It made the box a joy to use. By the way if you look at the nice Touch screen it is very similar size to a PDA. I am quite sure that Logitech is using its purchasing power and leverage parts from other PDA or one of their LCD remotes to make the $299 pricing. And from the shape of the screen I think it will be a challenge to display large letters like that of the SB2 and SB3. I am also surprised that no one else raised that issue. And to imply that the product is designed to be used with an iPhone or the Controller is bull. That was never stated in the product requirement. And it would preclude the requirement of many of the users who would expect the remote control is to work remote from the coach side of the living room. I have an iPhone with iPeng, and even I use the remote control 99% of the time. If they did a focus group they asked the wrong groups. -- agentsmith Main System: Source: Macbook Pro/M2Tech HiFace/Naim DAC/Teddy XPS Amplification: Naim 282/200/Hicap+Powerline/NAPSC Speakers: Harbeth Monitor 30 Bedroom System: SB2 or Airport Express + Meridian AD88 Missing my Transporter agentsmith's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1838 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=78217 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Adjusting text size
Oh and by the way, despite the extended launch date the product is still not ready for prime time. The first Touch I bought was certified bricked refusing to go into initial set up. It think it must have been one of those early samples waiting in the warehouse. The user interface is a nightmare compared to the Transporter/Squeezebox 2/3 The Linux server code refuses to play 99% of my Apple Lossless music. The Touch is displaying double byte characters as little blocks Other than that, the box itself is nice and solid, very cute looking. -- agentsmith Main System: Source: Macbook Pro/M2Tech HiFace/Naim DAC/Teddy XPS Amplification: Naim 282/200/Hicap+Powerline/NAPSC Speakers: Harbeth Monitor 30 Bedroom System: SB2 or Airport Express + Meridian AD88 Missing my Transporter agentsmith's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1838 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=78217 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

It was raised, many beta testers commented this a lot during their first test weeks. I has gotten a lot better since then, mainly due to changed font sizes and the large font skin with three text lines. I personally think it can be improved even more by experimenting with adjusting colors and font sizes. It feels like Logitech mostly has focused on the small font touch skin so far and not so much on the large font skin used when controlling it with IR. agentsmith;543472 Wrote: many of the users who would expect the remote control is to work remote from the coach side of the living room. I have no problem controlling it comfortably from the coach, of course I'm more like 10' away so that might make the difference. For people sitting 20' away I can imagine that it's very problematic and for these I don't think there is a good solution. The limited display with would make large fonts unusable, possibly a two line display with a little larger fonts or a more compressed font style (similar to Boom) might be a possibility. Do you have more problems with some specific screen / menu or is there nothing that works from the couch ? Are there any competing devices besides the old Squeezebox products that does this better ? -- erland Erland Isaksson 'My homepage' (http://erland.isaksson.info) (Install my plugins through Extension Downloader) (Developer of 'TrackStat, SQLPlayList, DynamicPlayList, Custom Browse, Custom Scan, Custom Skip, Multi Library, Title Switcher and Database Query plugins' (http://wiki.erland.isaksson.info/index.php/Category:SlimServer)) erland's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3124 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=78217 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
