Keep in mind you can still run your pic slide show on Touch from USB or
SD card even if Touch is connected to SBS for audio and music file
usage.

Have you tried running your slide show on Touch with NO audio currently
playing?
Maybe audio + your massive pic collection is just too much for TinySC?
Your pics alone could crash TinySC, who knows. :)

Is there anything consistent about the albums that are missing art?
Where are they stored in terms of hard drive location? Are they stored

Can you also open your library on a software music library system OTHER

I recall from earlier threads that you may have done lots of the hacks

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Unable to change 'Now playing'

2010-09-12 Thread bman

Hello Toby

Thank you for the quick reply!
I am aware that I can change part of the 'now playing' display by
touching the screen (switch between analog-vu, cover, analyzer), but
when entering the settings of the touch, there is a menu for the 'now
playing' with checkboxes... and I thought, when unchecking these, that
I could change the whole layout of 'now playing'!
I would f.x. like to have the analog-vu ONLY on the screen when
playing, but when unchecking anything in the 'now playing-menu', it
returns to default when exiting!?
What to do with a settings-menu for 'now-playing' at all, if you can't
change anything?

The fact that the limitations in configuring the Touch from SBS is by
design, makes the problem even worse! Why limit functionality compared
to older models, when introducing a new (...and more expensive)?
Seems like a major setback to me!

Thank's again!
Bman.

Hello,

I didn't do any screen mods, I thought they were all hardware related?
I did a reset and also deleted the two files (the digital only and the

It does look very much like a hardware problem.

Regarding power supply I have been using a linear regulated power

probably an image problem I suspect. And the tinySbS on the TOUCH

Looks like you found a bug in the Now Playing views selections.
Oddly, it does honor your selections as long as you don't go back into
that menu settings page. As soon as you enter back into the selections
again then all items are re-selected.

Anyone with an older player (SB1/2/3, Boom, Duet) would agree with you
on not having the SBS settings control over the new players (Touch,
Radio) as is available with the older players.
Many have voiced our opinion over this omission in player settings and
control via SBS UI, but the current answer is it's a different
architecture and will not (cannot?) be incorporated. :(

I would have thought that a reset would have already wiped out those

small button on the back down for ~15 seconds, unitl the screen says
Factory reset or words to that effect. Just turning it off/on or
unplugging it doesn't do a factory reset.

People here have reported generally good expeiences with Logitech
warranty returns. Your case is a bit more complicated because, strictly
speaking, you voided your warranty the minute to connected that
non-standard power supply. Good luck.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Diashow can't be stopped

2010-09-12 Thread M_Meyer

Yes, I have always tried running the slide show on Touch with NO audio
currently playing - the slideshow was used as screensave when the Touch
was in standby. It always crashes / can't be stopped.

The Touch must really be low on memory when TinySC is running - even
when playing music and switching the view to oscillograph mode, it is
sometimes crahsing and terminating the server.

Now I have made another test: I have stopped TinySC and only run the
slideshow - now it works perfectly.
Unfortunately this does not seem to be an option - it does not work for
a screensaver (who should automatically stop TinySC?) and the
restart+scan takes way too long.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Low volume output from sync'd devices

2010-09-12 Thread lamp

Thanks I also have Squeezebox Radio and Squeezebox Touch. One problem I
found out after changing the Squeezebox Radio screen to be the
Squeezebox Touch (On Radio: Choose Player Touch) is that the Radio
physical volume button is now adjusting the Touch volume. Even though
my Touch is set as Volume Fixed at 100%!

I believe there is a problem in the volume logic in the software.
Basically when I listen to an audio playlist by Radio itself, the
volume is fine, let's say at level 50. However after I turn on the
Touch, or the Boom, the player are synched (But the volume settings are
NOT set to be sync), the Radio volume became a lot softer even at level
50.

Does anyone else have this issue?

1 As a matter of interest how easy is it to damp the resonances in a
transformer? It seems from what you say to be something we should all
consider doing if possible. Would this apply to a TVC? I use a large c
core tvc as my pre amp and am very intrigued.
2 Forgive me if I am flogging a dead horse, but it seems to me that
properly analysed your conclusions about power cables do not lend
support to the practice of spending large amounts of cash on power
cables unless you have had the opportunity to try out (and presumably
burn in if you buy into that idea) and compare a large number of
different cables in your particular system. I am not even sure whether
the results on 2 different examples of the same model would be
consistent or the same identical component combined with different
components or even the identical components plugged into a different
 electrical circuit.
There would be no reason to suppose that any given cable would produce
better results even if it was very expensive and even if recommended by
 other people.
It seems to me that this conclusion does not support the subjective
results expressed on hi fi forums which have a tendancy to display a
high degree of correlation between observed improvements and money
 spent.

Damping the transformer takes a resistor and a capacitor in series,
connected across the secondary of the transformer. Theoretically you
should measure the transformer and compute the right value for that
particular transformer. I did that for every transformer in my house
and found that the values of 330 ohms and .022uf work well for almost
all of them. The resistor should be a carbon comp and the cap a
polypropelyne, I use orange drops. Thats it, its cheap and easy and can
give wonderful results.

Do NOT try this for signal carrying transformers. They have resonances
too, but dealing with them in such a way as to not muck up the audio
signal is not trivial. Most good audio designers will have already
dealt with the resonances in an audio transformer, its just power
transformers that seem to have been neglected.

Yes, my own personal opinion from my testing and listening is that
expense of a power cord has little correlation to any difference its
going to make in sound.

There IS another mechanism that concerns a power cord: RF resonances in
the cord itself. That one is much harder to measure and is again
somewhat dependent on whats around it. This is a case where different
designs are better than others, but I have not been able to determine
whats what yet. This is frequently confused by the transformer
resonance issue: what gives best results with one, may not give best
results on the other. So the best bet is to damp ALL the transformers,
THEN you can try different power cords, they may still sound different,
but now you are probably hearing differences in RF performance.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Unable to change 'Now playing'

2010-09-12 Thread JohnSwenson

The issue is that with the older players everything you see on the
screen comes from the server. All the player settings etc are stored in
the server, thus uts easy for the server to control things.

With the new players its different. The players themselves keep their
own settings and have their own local user interface for making
changes. Most of these settings also control things that are in the
local player and don't interact with the server at all.

Having the server control these is not trivial. For one thing you have
to write TWO sets of GUIs, one for the server and one for the local
player (its a lot of work just writing one, doing two for everything is
a LOT more work). Then there is is the issue of keeping the two in sync.
The server will have to query the player, make a change, display it
locally and send it back to the player. If the player is currently
displaying a page where that parameter is either being displayed or
used, it needs to update ITs GUI and behavior.

What happens if someone is changing the parameter on the player and
someone else is changing it via the server? You may think that will
never happen, but you'd be surprised, people will figure out how to do
it and get all upset that it just doesn't work right.

Right now now there is no standardized method for dealing with these
issues. Several aspects DO have to work with both the player and the
server such as transport controls (play, stop, volume control etc). The
code for dealing with these is a huge mess with messages going back and
forth between the server and the player. It would be nice to have a
framework in place for dealing with these issues, but it doesn't exist
yet. Until there is some well defined easy to use method for dealing
with both server and local control you are going to see very few items
available for control via the server.

Thanks.

is this adjustment in touch or Squeezebox center? From the wiki, looks
like it is a sbs settings?

There are two different things that have to happen for ReplayGain to be
use with the Touch (or any Squeezebox).

- The ReplayGain tags have to be read by the server and stored in the
  music library database.

- The ReplayGain values have to be applied by the player.

You can't disable or otherwise avoid #1. If the tags are present then
they're read. But #2 can be disabled and *is disabled by default* for
all Squeezeboxes. It's a player level setting, so it can be set
differently for each player.

Settable from the touch itself.
Available on both (local) tiny sbs, or remote sbs.

Thanks

I understand about number above. Once my FLAC files have the tag, it's
there. My FALC files are in my NAS and my NAS is running the SBS.

So, it is a Touch SBS setting and it's already disabled by default?
That's good to know so what I've been hearing over the weekend,
although ReplayGain is there for some FLAC, I am hearing the files in
the 'off' position. Good, I was happy with the sound level anyway.

I'll just rip with no ReplyGain from tonight onwards.

You can easily remove them. They're just tags.

No, it's one setting that can be set from either the Touch or from the
server. And yes, it's turned off by default.

That's an odd conclusion to come to after if you understand the above.
I seldom use it myself, except occasionally for background listening,
but I still take the time to apply the tags to all albums in my
library. Doesn't hurt anything and I won't have to do it in the future
if I decide to use it more often.

Ok, I'll continue to rip with RG and since the settings is turned off
by default on Touch or Server, I can use this tag in the future if
required. As you said, I won't have to do it in the future.
