As a matter of fact - I uploaded a BETA version for testing last
night.
Feedback is appreciated. I hope to have enough feedback by tomorrow
to get away from BETA.

Several people managed to get it installed according to instructions
already.

Your issue:
Please check if you've been in the right directory when unpacking the
tarfile. Otherwise it won't work.

While unpacking the file ( running the tar command) you should see
the file exctraction printouts in the terminal window.
If not something obviously went wrong. You might try a copy/paste of
the
listed tar command.

Good luck.

The DAC chip in the Touch WILL do 192 as long as it is given a fast
enough clock. The Clock circuits in the Touch ARE fast enough to
support 192 with this DAC chip.

For the DAC output two things have to be done in the ALSA driver: the
DAC chip has to be programmed to run at 192, and the serial interface
in the processor that generates the I2S signals has to be programmed to
output 192. Programming the DAC chip is the easy part.

Programming the serial port on the processor is more complicated.
FORTUNATELY its already being done for other sample rates so figuring
out which bits of which registers to change is not TOO hard.

 John S.

Did you make any progress in the meantime? I would love to find out if
this is possible with the touch. I don't have one yet, so my other
option to play 192kHz files would be to make a kind of DIY-squeezebox
with a thin-client and USB-DAC and then run squeezeslave. The
modifications in the SBS are already pioneered by agillis, so I guess
that would work already.

[SlimDevices: Touch] Tweaks to Touch Interface?

2011-01-08 Thread bjsox

I'm new to the Squeezebox Touch and love it so far, I've ripped many
CD's so far but being a listener of Classical as well as Rock, Jazz,
... I chose to enable the Composer, Conductor, and Band/Orchestra in
Artists options so I can use that data in the search when selecting
music. But unfortunately what this has created for me is to confuse
the true Artist performing the music. E.g. the Sign Language track
on the Eric Clapton No Reason to Cry CD is Clapton performing A Bob
Dylan song. When I select Bob Dylan as the Artist, this track comes up
as well when in fact what I'm hoping to create a play list of is all Bob
Dylan performed albums/tracks.

So my question is simply is there a way to add Composer, Conductor,
Band/Orchestra as seperate searchable selections within the Touch menu
so that this doesn't happen and thus can as an example allow us to
easily search for all Bob Dylan songs that were performed by anyone
independently from the Bob Dylan songs performed only by Bob Dylan?

Thanks in advance.

Joe

OPPO should actually not even output such a high bitrate while playing
SACDs, but I believe this is due to bad engineering from the OPPO side
that it is possible with a mod and a specific OPPO player.

You may need to play around a bit more with iPEng. I've not noticed any

[SlimDevices: Touch] Problem with buffering

2011-01-08 Thread BTHOEM

Hi - have been helping a friend and have run into a problem a hope you
can help with.

Netgear ReadyNas DUO
Sqeezebox Server 7.5.2
Touch w/ latest firmware
ZyXEL P2602HWT wireless router with LAN
Ipad as remote

Audio: 90% in Flac images compressed at level 5, with embedded and/or
external cue sheets. Some in higher resolution. Some in separate
files. An occasional Wav, APE and mp3.

Problem is buffering. The music starts playing a few seconds, then
stops to buffer - then continues. Pretty annoying.

Tried to wire the Touch - same problem there.
Tried to change the server setting to decode FLAC on server passing PCM
to the touch, same problem.

Did anyone else experience the same problem - and can it be solved?

Looking forward to hear from you,

Bjørn Tore Hoem

[SlimDevices: Touch] Help with 'now playing' screen locking up please!

2011-01-08 Thread dave1

Hi, noob in need of help here!

Had my touch for a few days and been having problems with the 'now
playing screen' which appears to lock up or not change when the music
(track or album)has moved on. Even if I switch to radio. If I look at
the playlist the previous tracks are stuck there and will not clear
unless I reset the unit with the button on the back. Meanwhile the
correct album or radio is playing and displays correctly in the server.
This happens after switching through a few tracks/albums.

The server was installed a few days ago and the Touch updated at first
switch on so I presume I am using the latest software.

Whilst this has been going on, I installed the Squeezecontrol App on my
Android phone (very good!) and this displays correctly (along with the
server) even when the Touch screen is locked out.

I am using Winamp to rip CDs to Flack and have tried deleting the
Winamp m3u playlist files it creates by default into each album folder.
I thought this had solved it for a while but now its happening again. If
I look for playlists in the server folder I have none, so I guess the
touch is creating them on the fly and they still get stuck.

I have tried many wipe scans and this does not help.

Thanks for reading and any help much appreciated!

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Problem with buffering

2011-01-08 Thread W_J

buffering can be caused by weak wireless or not having enough cpu/ram on
what ever is running squeezebox server (sbs). You can check the wireless
by connecting a network cable routerplayer and setting the player to
use a wired network connection. see if that sorts it then you know you
either need to improve the wireless or use a cable permanently.

If you're running sbs on a low powered nas then the nas cpu/ram can get
overpowered. my qnap has a web page you can check the cpu/ram usage. To
help the nas you can turn off any plugins you don't need on the sbs web
gui and make sure sbs is not trying to transcode between flac and mp3 or
similar as that stresses the cpu.

set up right the qnap 119 should work, not sure of the spec of the
ready nas.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Problem with buffering

2011-01-08 Thread W_J

Bjorn as you've tried wiring it the buffering is probably caused by the
nas. Streaming flac as flac should minimise the load on the nas. same
for any other format, don't try to transcode it will make things worse.
In the web gui you can set how sbs streams each file type.

your readynas appears to have 256 ram, couldn't find cpu details. with
the 256 ram in my qnap i can stream individual flac files with
artwork/tags fine, haven't tries images. Hi rez stuff sometimes pauses
at the start of the track but then plays ok.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Help with 'now playing' screen locking up please!

2011-01-08 Thread Blazer

I have a similar problem with my Touch. My now playing screen not only
locks up, but it stops displaying the song info, but the music keeps
playing. It only happens periodically. I can sometimes fix it by
hitting the reset button on the back. But sometimes, I have to
stop/start the Squeezebox server on my PC to get the Touch working
correctly again.

I think I have narrowed my problem down to my backup software. It seems
to happen when that software scans my hard drive for changes. If I
disable my backup software (CrashPlan) while listening to the Touch, I
do not have that problem.

Thanks - how to delete logical partition? running win 2k,

Try this:
http://www.partition-tool.com/personal.htm

It should show you how the disk is partitioned. There should only be 1
partition and it should be a physical partition.

If not, just delete all partitions and then recreate 1 physical
partition formatted NTFS.

Be aware that the default partition type for Easus Partition Manager is
LOGICAL, not PHYSICAL, which is how I found this bug in the first place
:-)

I just noticed that Easus calls it a primary partition, not physical
partition.

You should have exactly one primary partition.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Help with 'now playing' screen locking up please!

2011-01-08 Thread dave1

Hi Blazer - thanks for the reply:

Mine displays wrong song info and cover after switching through a few
tracks (stuck where it got unhappy and doesn't move on) but I don't
think its the server because I can control the music from the server
browser or my phone app and both display what the touch screen should
be showing and is playing.

Also in stuck mode I cannot delete a track or playlist.

Any other ideas? Anyone?

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] SB Touch + NAS advantages?

2011-01-08 Thread naimlinn

their is some truth to the cpu cycles required to unfold flac files on
the fly.try this on your SB touch: use dbpoweramp and convert 3 songs
from flac to wav. load all six songs and dont even listen closely. you
wont have to, your jaw will be on the floor from the transformation
from flac to wav. hence:THIS DEVICE ONLY LIKES WAV!!!
