>From what OS are you copying your files .

* You are 100% sure that the card is not in read only mode .
* No strange file permissions .
* How are they formatted .

i know that 64 gB cards don't work, but not why. there is some "modern"
variants of SD cards the Touch are incompatible with, again I don't know
why , or which ones.

Workarounds , the Touch is not your portable player rigth, I guess
some got the impression that you lugged around the Touch.
Copy the files to your local squeezebox server that you already run for
your classic and listen to them that way ? and listen to the cards in
your portable ?
or keep copies of the files on an USB drive ?
Both these workarounds actually lets you listen to the music, they
work.

It would be interesting to use SSH and do a ls -la on the files and
directories .

Another idea would be to try to see if a bug in the Touch mounts the
card in read only mode.

just for kicks power it down insert card power it up a 0.01% idea but
who knows.

i migth just try with some card I have around from my cameras to see
whats happening.

Btw the folder names no dots in front of the folder names Touch is
linux so that makes hidden files example .folder this would be
invisible tomthe scanner.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Touch Won't Play SD Card

2011-11-07 Thread Andy T

I think there's been some misunderstanding about the number of flac
files I've got, what I want SD cards for, what I expect the Touch to do
and what I've done to try to get things to work.

I've got almost 500 GB of flac files on a hard drive. I know SD cards
aren't big enough to hold my whole library. I don't want to haul that
drive around though. And I want to have music files to listen to on my
personal player. So I've got a handful of 32 GB SD cards with what
averages out to be 100 CDs on each. They play great in my player and on
my computer. They're 21st century storage media for 21st century
hardware. Not obsolete like cassettes or floppy drives. And I'd like to
be able to play them in the Touch sometimes.

I haven't seen any "workarounds" from anybody that solved my problem.

Recognizing that a full 32 GB SD card could be a problem itself, I took
a new 16 GB card and put just a few files on it. Didn't help. See my
11/1 message for details. If somebody's got other things to try, post
them and I'll give them a try.

I've also spent about 2 hours on the phone with a SB tech trying to
resolve this. He finally gave up and said the unit should be
exchanged.

I bought the Touch for 2 main reasons. One was that it was supposed to
have a better DAC than my Classic. The other was the ability to play SD
cards. The touch screen is no use to me. I'm riled up about this problem
because I paid good money for a Touch that doesn't do much more for me
than my Classic does. My desires may be different than most/all the
rest of you. But they're legit and Logitech said the Touch could do
what I wanted. When we couldn't get it to work, they offered to
exchange it and then tried to disregard their offer. I started this
thread because I think Logitech is no fun to do business with. If any
of you are satisfied with your Touch and your dealings with Logitech,
good for you. But you're out of line to belittle my expectations and my
efforts.

Andy

Do you have to use NTFS ? I believe that NTFS make it harder on Linux
and will consume more memory. I'm personally using WIN32, and I've been

agree that logitech should drop the idea that the touch works with SD
card or USB drive (except perhaps to note that there is "beta" limited
potential use for the interested user). But somehow the idea of moving
music around on SD cards is like me complaining that none of my recent
computers allow me to read the 5.25 floppy disks I have in the back of
my cabinet... And wait, I have some cassette tapes with data I stored
from my Apple II (which I do still have by the way).

Jean,

I am well over 8k files - I'd say 17k.
Ext powered 3.5" HDD. Files reorganized in /Artist/Album/Track.___
structure; NTFS; small cover arts - .jpg from 500x500 to 300x300 (but
kept under or 'round 30-35kB size) put in /Album folders besides tracks
(with the log file). What is not essential/temporary there I usually put
aside in .zip (to avoid it being catalogued).
The point is : it works on 7.5.4, on 7.6.x and up no way (though I also
noticed the improvement in the process with 7.7).

problem with the number of files. I've got 8k tracks, how many do you
have ?

Note that my artwork is regenerated and downsized to 500x500 / 80% JPEG
from a script, so I'm guaranteed to only have very clean and
straightforward JPEGs on the Touch. See here on my setup :

The artwork process seems also to be memory sensitive, this is why
stopping unnecessary things may help.

Good luck...

Andy, if you want assistance, let us know. But if you just want to
kvetch, it's not really a useful place to do it, because asking for
your money back or 'threatening' to go to Sonos ring pretty hollow in a
user-to-user forum. Then again, usefulness was never a necessary part of
kvetching.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Touch with USB drive : mastering TinySB

2011-11-07 Thread jean2

Hi,

I think it's time for a quick update...

A few weeks ago, I updated to 7.6.1. I had terrible time with the
initial full scan, and it took me many server restart to get through
the full scan. I commented on my experience here :

http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?p=652049#post652049

After that initial painful experience, 7.6.1 ended up to be much more
enjoyable than 7.5.4. The navigation though the database feels
definitely faster than 7.5.4, and when I start playing track the song
info and artwork take much less time to appear. Partial scans worked
without a glitch. Some features like search and player synchronisation
that I never managed to make work in 7.5.4 are now working properly,
and I must admit I'm now using synchronisation a lot. I could not be
more pleased.

Yesterday, I've upgraded to 7.7 (TinyLMS ?). The upgrade was very
smooth. After rebooting to 7.7, it decided to rescan my music from
scratch (full scan - 8k tracks). The scan went through without a glitch
first time, I did not time it but it took probably around 25 minutes.
And TinyLMS is now working beautifully.

One reason the scan may have succeeded first time with 7.7 may be that
in the mean time, I've disabled Samba (export Windows share), and that
may have freed up enough memory to make a difference. However, the scan
code has definitely changed between 7.6.1 and 7.7, as we now have nice
scan progress messages on the screen, similar to they way they were in
7.5.4 and earlier, instead of the weird upper-case strings in 7.6.1. I
must admit I did not retry another full scan with 7.7. So, I can't be
sure what made the difference, but I suspect 7.7 is better... Anyway,
people having problem with the scan may want to check if disabling disk
sharing helps.

>From my very limited testing, it looks like 7.7 behaves as good 7.6.1,
with fixes to the scanner. I would personally recommend TinySB users to
upgrade to 7.7, because to me it has the best of 7.6.1 and 7.5.4.

Have fun...

C'mon Andy.

You seem to be unhappy that the product doesn't meet your narrow set of
requirements even though there are many easy workarounds.

You're not going to find an SD card large enough for 1600 CDs worth of
flac files anyway, so I'm not sure why the SD card issue is a problem
for you. I agree it should be fixed or dropped as a listed feature.

Restarted my player (power cycled it) and I still only have those four
sources listed. I can see the albums in "Extras/Image Browser" but not
in the screensaver image viewer settings.

I too am seeing this on the Controller, I believe it began when I
updated to Version 7.6.1 of the Squeezebox Server.

Does anyone know if the newest version still displays non-square cover
art with the black bars around it? I have quite a few box sets that
this happens to. It was much more visually appealing (to me anyway) to
have the wallpaper show instead of the black bars.

Thanks,

[SlimDevices: Touch] Screensaver with images from 7.7?

2011-11-07 Thread OrangeWindies

Now that the Logitech Media Server is indexing images as well it would
be nice if I could use those in the image viewer screensaver. I know I
can set up a webserver and a URL list, but that seems like a lot more
effort when the Squeezebox can already see those images in the image
viewer app.

It'd be especially nice if we could use the metadata (EXIF and IPTC) to
select images to be included :)

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Touch remote question

2011-11-07 Thread elision

As I mentioned in another thread recently, I bought a 7" Anroid 2.2
tablet from Amazon in the UK for £70 which is about $110.

It runs the Anroid Market but I wasn't able to find any of the
well-known Squeezebox controller apps (Logitech's app and
SqueezeCommander) there so I assumed that there were some compatibility
issues. SlideME was more understanding (or just keener to take my money)
so I downloaded SqueezeCommander which I'm more than happy with.

Once I've selected my music, I can surf and check my e-mail to my
heart's content, which is exactly why I bought the tablet in the first
place.

My only word of warning with the cheap tablets is that the battery life
is not enormous - I get two or three hours out of mine before it needs
plugging in again.

Elision.
