With OpenGraph you have pretty fine-grained control over how and what you want to post. You can have all your music listening recorded on facebook, but people would have to look into your App Statistics to learn about it (on the timeline). And then you can decide on single tracks that you want to share them, for example. It's quite powerful but requires quite a bit of work and also backend hosting on the using App's side. pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=95556 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] post now playing to facebook wall
Does it work properly for you ? If I do it the post gets malformed ,all artist and song info disappears for me and the post does not appear in the newsfeed ( on LMS 7.8 ) . Auto posting ? Really, if my friends did that i had to ignore them , the newsfeed would turn to spamm really quick ? Phew it can get to much already with just the occasional spotify or YouTube clips , it would be more irritating than those games . would you want every tune posted ? Non addicted only check fb a couple of times a day so their newsfeed would only be playlist interrupted by the occasional relevant post by a friend or family member . Believe me absolutely no one is interested in every tune you listen to . I try post tunes to highlight something really special that I think my friends should hear. Social media means a human thats posts stuff, that's the piont for me , not some bot capability in our apps doing it for us . Agree about YT mp4 quality for audio but often these are old and rare tracks so quality isn't a factor. However, I have some clips where the audio is excellent. 24/96 no problem on all outputs analog spdiff and optical ,more than 2 discrete channels no not that I'm aware off :-/ I want that to and hdmi would be the way . maybe someone has a detailed description on how to pass the nag screen for mysb.com on setup ? It can be done yes . But nothing is required after registration either , it will be just as usable if never ever connected back to the service. Never firmware can be downloaded via the server ,but player fw comes via mysb.com for all players , so without integration you migth have to put them there yourself . Or use an SD card , that is a very good idea as they are delivered with very old fw that is basically knackered , so step one is to upgrade the Touch. [SlimDevices: Touch] Oldtimer looking to upgrade to Touch without downgrading to mysb.com
Hi all! I've been using an SB2 since it came out (and an SB1 for a couple of months before that), and I'm looking for an upgrade. Whishlist: - DAC that can do 24/96+, at least via digital out - support for multi-channel audio (via HDMI) Well, the Touch only gets 1/2 and has a ton of features I do not need (touch screen, integrated server, ...). Did they *have* to throw the slim / thin client concept out of the window? So I've been waiting for a more direct SB3 or even Transporter successor - actually the Transporter would do, only nobody is selling any, go figure -, but there's no new models on the horizon, so I've been thinking, get a Touch or three before Logitech axes that, too. Now, I've never used Squeezenetwork / mysqueezebox.com and very much don't want to. Not everything needs to be closely integrated with the Internet, much less a proprietary service. There's privacy issues, security issues, reliability issues - all for functionality that I don't need and that could easily be done via server plugins. More than that, I see the service as an attempt to take back the openness that was another one of Slim Devices' core concepts by moving as much functionality as possible out of the server, and frankly that pisses me off. If I'm forced to register I won't buy a Touch, it's that simple. So, - Can I setup a Touch, as currently in the European retail channels, without registering? - If I run the Touch without an account, what am I missing compared to my (also unregistered) SB2? - ... compared to the "full" experience? - Can I still keep it's firmware current? - Can I still benefit from the various mods people are doing, e. g. EDO? I'm perfectly willing to jump through a few hoops and I know my way around Linux but I'd like to know how much trouble it's going to be before I drop over €200. TIA, Chris ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

When I talk about "controller" I am talking about the abstract logical construct I call a controller, not the physical box called the Controller. The logical controller has two parts, one is the human interface, buttons, display screen etc, and the part that sends commands to the server, such as start, stop, display the results of a query to the database. There are different physical implementations of this logical construct. In the case of the Radio, Controller and Touch there is a local processor in the box running a program called squeezeplay, squeezeplay will read buttons, IR codes from a remote, touches on the Touch screen and display things on the LCD screen. It takes the information in and sends commands over the network to the server. On SB3, boom, transporter etc, the server software creates an instance of a controller running on the computer the server is running on, the SB hardware sends IR codes, button presses etc to this controller instance and this controller instance interprets them and sends the same commands to the server. So architecturally, logically, it's the same model, even though the physical implementations are quite a bit different. All the different methods of control do the same thing, they have some way of interacting with humans, some software to interpret that interface and send commands to a server. It might be iPeng on an iPhone, the web page hosted by the server, squeezeplay on a Touch, or that special controller instance created by the server for an SB3. Logically they are all the same thing. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] How to backup "everything" on SBT?
None of the usual backup methods are going to work properly for the Touch as far as a COMPLETE full exactly as it normally is state. The reason for this is that the Touch uses a union file system. In a union filesystem there are multiple physical file systems that are combined at run time to provide what you see. For the Touch it is setup with a read only filesystem which contains the firmware from Logitech and a separate physical filesystem which contain "changes", anything you modify (directly or indirectly) goes in the "change" filesystem. What you see is the union of these two filesystems (its actually more complicated, but that's the easy to understand version). This actually is how the factory restore works, it clears out the "changed" filesystem. So if you use normal backup procedures you will be making a copy of the union filesystem, when you restore it, everything goes in the changed filesystem, not back into the "official" read only filesystem. So lets say you get corruption in the read only system, you restore your backup into the changed filesystem (assuming there is enough space in this filesystem!), everything now works, but if you do a factory reset you blow away the "changed" filesystem and now you are back to pointing at the corrupted read only filesystem! Obviously there are ways to write to the read only filesystem, a firmware change has to do that, but you have to go through special hoops to actually get at the different filesystem and back each one up separately, and on a restore put them back in the correct physical filesystems. It certainly can be done, but a "normal" backup procedure is NOT going to do that. John S. Indications are that such a DAC is fairly immune to small jitter on the bits (which is what a clock change would affect), Many USB DACs DO seem to have some degree of susceptibility to gross packet timing differences (controlled by software settings), some to a fairly large degree and others to a much smaller degree, I don't have a MDAC so I can't tell you where it lies. But these are not hardware changes, they are purely software. When people talk about "reclockers" they are usually referring to boxes that take in a S/PDIF signal, run it through a good PLL, regenerate a S/PDIF stream with the clock from the PLL. This only works for S/PDIF. There are no "reclockers" for USB, there are some devices which perform isolation (but only for full speed, not high speed) and these actually ARE reclockers, but the internal clock is WAY WAY worse than anything you are going to find in a computer, they actually add a TON of jitter to the USB bus!
