[SlimDevices: Touch] tiny sc and plugins?

2012-10-11 Thread wuffles

Forgive me for asking a question that must be answered already (although
simple searching didn't reveal it). The wiki seems a little dated, too.

Can the latest version of tiny sc support plugins? In particular, I'd
love to run bpa's NPR plugin without a full LMS running.

I've got three SB3s, two radios, and a duet ... understand the touch
only has enough throughput to run one or two boxes at a time, but the
chance to buy one is rapidly coming to an end.

Thanks.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] tiny sc and plugins?

2012-10-11 Thread aubuti

The forums' search function is less than optimal, but this has been
discussed at length previously. The short answer is no, the Touch's
built-in server (aka TinySC or TinyLMS) does not support plugins.

A more precise answer is that it can run some plugins if you are able to
install them manually. Other plugins won't run at all. I don't know
which category the NPR plugin belongs in.

I'm not sure about the accuracy of the Touch's built-in server only
having enough "throughput" to support one or two boxes. I doubt that's a
blanket rule, and expect that it depends on things like codec, sync'd
vs. unsync'd streams, and so forth.

I'd bet NPR would work.

I don't have the link at hand but there's a description on how to
install plugins on the touch. You can find it on penguinlovesmusic.com

[SlimDevices: Touch] Constantly losing TOUCH

2012-10-11 Thread Waldo Pepper

Hi
This appears now to be a nightly problem. I have a TOUCH and two SB
radios. Almost everyday I see the message that there has been a problem
connecting to (USB). The only solution is to reboot. The radios
show a red WiFi symbol and also refuse to re-connect.
There appears to be nothing wrong with the WiFi or the Internet
connection. All devices are using the latest firmware.
Changing the music disk from a USB stick to a previously fine drive also
has the same symptoms.
This system has worked without flaw for the last two years and as FAIK,
nothing has changes.
Any suggestions appreciated.
TIA

I'd worry about whether the supporting library HTML:::PullParser is
installed in tinysc and then whether the plugin might use up a lot of
memory.

bpa: whether the correct libraries are there or not, *THANKS for writing
the npr plugin.* obviously, you don't have a local npr station, but even
for those of us that do, its very nice to catch shows we missed the

It may not a lot of memory but IIRC memory is quite scarce when running
tinysc especially as a user may have a reasonable no of music files and
so may have less leeway.

I don't what amount of memory is critical but depending on what the user
is playing there is potential for more memory to be used.

The plugin pulls down web pages most come from a "thin" interface which
is minimal but some other other menus (e.g. American Routes) have quite
large web pages and then these pages are parsed and then the program
playlist pages need to be pulled down and parsed. If a user goes down a
"NPR program" hierarchy going back to old programs - all the old pages
are kept in memory.

I used to do lot of work in the US and got used to listening to NPR and
it was good for getting a US view of US issues (as opposed to an
Irish/British) which is essential when doing business in the US.
However I no longer travel as much and so in recent times I don't listen
to it so much.

[SlimDevices: Touch] Now that I found MOG.....I hardly need my music library anymore....MOG saves $$$$$$

2012-10-11 Thread Cut-Throat

I pay $5 a month for MOG and have over 1 Million Albums at my disposal.
You can play Albums just as easy from their libraries as you can from
your own. Similar to Pandora except you control the music. Play what you
what, unlimited skipping etc. Artist Radio.

But the best thing is it is a much higher quality. 320 kbps.

About 95% of the albums that I want to play, I can find on MOG.

So, I used to spend about $300-$400 a year on new music. Now I spend $60
and have more than ever.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Constantly losing TOUCH

2012-10-11 Thread JohnSwenson

First I'd like to make it clear in my own mind what your setup looks
like, it sounds like you have a Touch, running TinyLMS with a USB stick
containing the music library. The Radios connect to the TinyLMS on the
Touch via Wifi. Is the Touch the only LMS?

It sounds like the problem is the Radios not being able to connect to
the TinyLMS on the Touch, correct? When this happens, can the Touch
still play music?

If the Touch can still play music then Tiny LMS is still running, and
the problem is most likely a network issue.

I can think of two probable causes, one is just wifi connectivity
issues, but that would tend to not be exactly the same for the two
Radios (unless they are right next to each other).

The other is DHCP issues. I've seen this before, the devices all get
leases from the DHCP server when they boot and everything is fine, but
then some hours later the leases expire and they don't get renewed, thus
the router won't talk to them. Two common reasons for this are a router
that has been on for a long time (for some reason some DHCP servers seem
to get slower and slower the longer the router is on) and interference
on the wifi link can cause the DHCP server to time out.

The first thing to try is to reboot the network: modem, router,
switches, WAPs etc. This frequently will fix the problem. If it
doesn't, try temporarily connecting a Radio to the network with a wire
and see if the problem persists.

If neither of those helps then it's going to take some more serious
debugging.

Agree, or at least let me create a "multiple artist" station (as I can
do in Pandora).

p.s. I really like my MOG too. Great for trying things out, listening to
things that I don't have a strong desire to own, or listening to LOTS of
stuff when I'm away from home and only have my iphone or ipad. But over
the relatively short time I've used MOG, I've noticed that some things
never show up there (that I'm interested in) and probably worse, some
things do show up, I can play for a while and then a month later, they
are no longer on MOG at all. Again, great service, but it wouldn't take
the place (for me) of owning the music I really want to have as part of
my permanent collection.

Well it integrates wit the Touch nicely for now. But in another year, who
knows if mysqueezebox will even be functional.

Maybe a plugin like Triode's Spotify plugin can be developed . I'd be
happy to pay for it.

I have zero confidence in Logitech maintaining mysqueezebox . Live Music
Archive hasn't been functional for how long? Oh and
I hear the Logitech iphone app doesn't work now either .Pitiful.

[SlimDevices: Touch] Trouble switching mysqueezebox and library

2012-10-11 Thread Theaetetus

Hi everyone!

This is my for post after having spent a good bit of time here reading
up on the LST.

I've been having some trouble after setting up my Touch after a recent
move, and I couldn't find a thread that dealt with exactly my problem,
so here goes:

In the morning, I use the Touch to listen to internet radio, and it
connects just fine. I power it off before going to work, and in the
evenings, I use the Touch to play music on my computer. When I power up
the Touch, it will see the library on my Macbook, but when I make a
selection and press play, the selection will correctly appear and the
play timer will begin moving, but there is no sound. The only thing
that fixes it is turning the Touch off and back on. At that point the
selection is still showing and it plays just fine. it's not a huge
problem, but it is annoying.

I poked around a bit on the LMS settings, and on the setting on the
Touch unit itself, but I don't really know what to look for. All of the
software is up do date.

Possibly related to this is that I will occasionally see my Touch
connecting to mysqueezebox on its own, even when the power is off. Is
this normal?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

when you play music from your computer are you connected to Logitech
Music Server running on your PC? I assume so. And in this LMS, have
you gone into settings in the WebGUI (button on lower right side of LMS
webGUI) and gone to mysqueezebox.com tag and entered your mysb.com
credentials?

That pretty much describes my feelings about MOG. A great adjunct to my
own music library (which is much smaller than garym's), but not really a
substitute. The gaps in the MOG library and the
now-we-have-it-now-we-don't thing are still sticking points, as are the
occasional glitches when it won't play correctly, such as not playing
all the way through an album. But for music discovery, or grabbing
random tracks and albums that I don't have, or giving albums a good
listening before buying the CD or FLAC download, it's well worth the
$5/month.

2012-10-11 Thread Theaetetus

I'm using a Mac, but I think I follow you. When I go into the account
section of LMS, there is the option to verify password. Is this what
you mean? If so, when I select the verify option, nothing happens (the
field is filled with dots all the way across), but when I manually enter
the password and hit the verify button, then I get a confirmation.

Once I did this, I did a quick test, and was able to use internet radio,
power off/on, access the library and get audio. I'll try again tomorrow
to see if the problem comes back.

I just saw that when I went back to the account tab in LMS the password
field was reset, and it behaved as before (i.e., I had to manually
re-enter the password before getting verification). Could this be the
problem?
