Anyone know what the solution is??

Each AP has a default IP address. You can change this with the web
interface to your AP.

MOST IF NOT ALL AP's default to having DHCP server ON. This means
that you may or Will have more than one device handing out ways to
connect.

When you added the AP, you added another way to connect using DHCP.

DHCP says: I can help you out if you need to connect. This would
normally be a good idea.

The bad part is if you have more than one helper on your network, they
can f*)2 you.

So: if you have a cable/dsl modem that passes out addresses (helpfully)
on 192.168.1.x and an AP passing out addresses (helpfully) on
192.168.254.x THEY ARE NOT ON THE SAME NETWORK.

They can't talk to each other. See some wiki on DHCP.

Two different issues here:

1. a NAS to hold your tunes?
2. a NAS to hold your tunes AND run SBS?

If 1: Since touch almost certainly runs samba client, you might need to
edit the touch /etc/fstab file to make it try to mount the NAS at
startup. This would require the touch to accept a telnet/vi session (at
the least.)

If 2: An entirely different bag of worms. This requires the NAS
specific SBS server software. The touch is then a player: that part is
easy.

connected it through phono, which was the only place where it was able
 to produce any sound.

Hoping somebody will be able to shed light on this matter.

 Peter

The SB puts out line level which would blow away ANY phono input
since it's voltages are huge compared to a turntable. As everyone has
said, when you plug into a receiver, you will (mostly) have two volume
controls: the volume of the SB and the volume on the receiver.

It would be best to try a CD/AUX input. Set the volume of the receiver
to zero and use the webUI to set the output of the SB to maximum.
(Settings/player/pick player/audio.)

Type back. The thing should work very well.

Unless you're worried about someone listening to your music at the same

connections/allowed IP addresses function.

Remotely, use whatismyip.com to get your address and then RDP/VNC
through your modem's firewall to SBS and add that remote address.
You'll have to open-up 3483/9000. I do this regularly with both my boom
and SoftSqueeze.

Unless you have very high outbound bandwidth (or you're playing mp3's
rather than flac/m4a lossless,) you'll need to install lame and set the
remote player's bitrate limiting on.

Don't forget to add your local addresses (like 192.168.1.*) and
localhost (127.0.0.1)

Does anyone using both a Vortexbox and a Touch have any idea what
the issue may be? My flacs are all on the Vortexbox within their own
Artist/Album folder. Are they supposed to be loose within the
Vortexbox's flac folder without the subfolders?
 Thanks, Dusty

This brings an interesting question: The touch is a server and a
player.

It would seem there would be two data sets: 1 on the touch and 1 on the
vortexbox.

It should be necessary to change servers (libraries/remote libraries)
to access each separate server.

Is this true or can the touch merge with another server and be seamless
(as we would hope?)

I think a list of music locations would be the only solution. I'm
pretty sure this isn't explicit in iTunes but I really don't see a lot
of complexity in having a finite list of music locations coupled with
an include other servers option. (YES, I know they could be
duplicating songs and etc. but read on.)

After a scan, each location would be included. If a
portable/detachable device is not available at playback, a simple,
single select parameter in the UI would be required. Other than that,
if the media is not available a message could either suggest a restart
or give dialog that the tune ain't there just now...

There is no webUI on the Touch's TinySBS. If you use the Touch as a
player, its trivial to control it with the Web UI of your server, or
 iPeng, etc.

Its Tiny SBS. Its limited. That is what makes it tiny. And being

is what makes it run on the limited resources of the Touch.

Its not a bug, its a feature.

I agree that lots of folks wanted it to be everything that real SBS
 is.
I also want my computer monitor to have a cold draft beer tap on the

 is limited.

I just don't get why people expect the Touch to be a real computer.
Running SBS on a dead or free computer is nearly trivial. And the DIY
section has tons of folks with tiny servers with nearly zero energy
usage. None of them have cool touch UI, but they have all the

But If you are living the mac life ALAC is more practical, dont confuse
