Update: after I introduced artwork of the recommended size, the problem that I faced was that sometimes in some songs , in the beginning and near the end there is a slight flickering interruption in audio. It is random . 2 days back I introduced some new music to the hdd and the problem of "local music service stopped" appeared. tried to resolve the issue by rescanning music library and deleting artwork files by sharing sbt wirelessly on my android phone but got no success. Artwork was still appearing for new music. then i thought about the embedded artwork. And sure these new music files had embedded art work of the size I think 2 mb! Now once again after completely sanitizing my hdd and removing all artwork I have attached it to sbt. I dont need artwork and I think that way my sbt on hdd will work fine. -- neeraj0272 neeraj0272's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=52528 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87971 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Local music service stopped :-(
Further to my post 10 days ago and neeraj's action, I removed a part of artwork and files from my HDD and using latest firmware 7.7.1 tried to do a clean scan... failed. So I removed more files - now instead of original 17k-18k audio files and cca 1350 image files there remained cca 14k audio file and cca 900 image files ... failed. Factory reset, wipe & scan ... failed. But during these several days I noticed something strange: with the original number of files the scan would always break after cca 225 image files scanned, while after offloading the HDD and then further lowering that number the scan would break earlier - in the end it was before it would reach 160-170 image files (!) So I flashed it back to 7.5.4. did a factory reset and started yet another wipe & scan ... success! I am now putting back in batches the files I moved off the drive temporarily and set it scan from the previous point reached and for now it works. So, I guess I will definitely remain on 7.5.4 for a long time (this procedure prevented me to listen to some music for quite some time now and that makes me really nervous ;-) ). -- congole _ SB Touch; Denon DVD-1920; Revolver SEE+ Sumiko BluePoint; Luxman L-405 (impr.); VTL straight-line (impr.); Luxman T-240 (impr.); AKAI GX-95; AIWA AD-F640Z; Usher S-520. congole's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=40776 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87971 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] "Local music service stopped" after update (using USB HDD)
I had exactly the same problem - music service stopping for some unknown reason. For the last 24 hours I could only scan in half a dozen albums or so (and had to move most of my data into a folder starting with a full-stop to prevent it scanning) or else the music service stopped while scanning. My fix: I did a factory reset, then went to Settings and downloaded and installed the latest firmware again. It's now working fine (or as fine as we expect this fragile machine to work - I'm sure it's only a matter of time!) -- Dave1972 Dave1972's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=92864 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Local music service stopped :-(
Welcome to the world of buggy, under-resourced Logitech server! I still get this problem frequently (although not half as much as I used to in the early days before the firmware was significantly improved). Artwork does NOT havr to be 150x150 max. Mine is typically 768x768, and I have had everything working smoothly on many occasions. I think the only answer is to invest some cash into an external server, which I intend to do at some point. As things are now, I only have about half of my music collection loaded onto the Touch at any one time (I have to store half of my files in a folder that starts with a full-stop to stop them being scanned). Maybe Logitech will produce a Touch mkII that will have more built-in memory (that would be ideal) but until then, either get an external NAS or similar server - or put up with the bugs and crashes and limitations of the tiny server. -- Dave1972 Dave1972's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87971 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

It appears you can determine which file Tiny SBS is crashing on ? If so, I would suggest you move that file off that drive and see if you can complete a full rescan. If that scan works then the file causing the problem needs to be looked at. Post as much detailed info about it as possible so folks here can see if something jumps out at them. I ran Tiny SC w SBS 7.5.3 for about a yr until I decided to get a router and go wifi. Updated to 7.7.1 a few months back and have had no issues. Scans are a lot faster and no more issues w reconnecting after PC restarts like I had w 7.5.3. 7.7.2 I believe is still in the beta stage so if you decide to update you may want to use 7.7.1. It is odd that when you run wifi there is no issue. And there are some embarrisng issues with the onboard server and the Touch. It has only 128mB of ram and no swapfile . A person on this forum managed to get a swapfile running on a sd card or usb stick ? And noticed that during some phases of the scan it was actually used . Which tells us that with some content it will always crash ? So more optimisation of the onboard Tiny server is needed if it's ever going to work for everyone :-/ Make it just don't process to large artwork and non jpg art ? A mode without artwork ? Even when running the server on better hardware there are rare files that can crash the scanner. It actually may be related to artwork, but not just the size of image files. I am experiencing this quite often (unfortunatley) as I am using a much large HDD with a large number of files. My artwork files are all under 50k (there may be some zip files on the drive besides the flac or mp3, but they are not being catalogued in the tinysc db) - so I guess the sheer number of files can provoque errors. I checked the log files and it is always logged as touch's tiny squeezecenter experiencing an out of memory (or similar) error. [SlimDevices: Touch] "Local music service stopped" after update (using USB HDD)
Hi, I did the recent firmware upgrade for my Touch that renames the server to Logitech Media Server. After this, I constantly get the "Local music service stopped" error. Most of the time I can't even connect to the server, and when I can it dies during or right after playing just 1 song. I have a USB HDD (WD Passport USB 2.0 with around 100 GB of music on it) attached, and it worked just fine before the update. I've ensured that there are only playable music files on the drive (i.e. no pdf's or jpg's or anything that would confuse it). I've also tried deleting the database folder to force a rescan of everything. Nothing has worked, and frustration is growing rapidly... Any ideas? Thanks lots in advance, Mikkel -- harryfink harryfink's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=49709 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=92864 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Local music service stopped :-(
Well, it seems that the problem had to do with the size of artwork files. It would have been nice if that problem was mentioned in the trouble shooting guide - that would have saved me many hours :-( A new problem is that many of the albums figure twice now ??? -- L.B. [SlimDevices: Touch] Local music service stopped :-(
I have tried with 3 different USB cabels, 3 different HDD and 2 different SB Touch. Each time I get this screen when the disk has been scanned: Local music service stopped I have tried to do what is stated in the troubleshooting guide, but still the same problem. It is driving me crazy! When I use my wifi and squeezeserver everything works fine with the same HDD and the same SBT. I find that very strange! Any help is much appriciated!! -- L.B.
