Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] No track name, no album art
Hey all I just wanted to drop you all a line. I have never had these problems before but I understand what is happening. You may not realize that one of your programs is running a backup because many of them are automatic. Example would be antivirus software, everytime your computer is scanned or a file is blocked your antivirus will create a backup for future reference. You can also check to see if your pop up blocker is causing this problem. Though the cover art is not an actual pop up ad, it is a seperate file from the song itself so it may be seen as a pop up. -- phildeeze I consider myself a Wi-Fi radio addict! Hi Gary and Toby, You will no doubt be pleased to hear that my problems seems to be fixed. I've yet to have a long listening session to confirm that EVERYTHING is performing as it should but a direct ethernet connection between Modem/Router and Touch, (bypassing Switch) seems to have resolved the ethernet connection problem. Once this was done, connection was almost instantaneous. The problem seems (to me) to be one of incompatibility between Tenda switch and the Touch - all other items plugged in to the switch seem to work as they should, irrespective of which port or ethernet cable the Touch used, but the Touch refused to to work via ethernet irrespective of which port or cable was used. I'll give it a good listening session over the weekend and let you know how it goes. Meanwhile thanks to both for your interest and tolerance. I love the SQ from my Touch BUT ...mine is very flakey, and I'm a clueless numptie which doesn't help. I have it connected ONLY to PSU (supplied), ethernet cable to switch to PC and digital co-ax to DAC. I've rebooted PC and/or factory reset the Touch endlessly and it refuses to make an ethernet connection. It will make a wireless connection to my network but suffers repeated dropouts, both when listening to my music library and internet radio. On both these options it starts off dispaying track information and cover art but after a few track it stops doing that. I have no problems with normal surfing the web FWIW. In the 'screen', now playing', 'scrolling' option screen ALL the options are lit and nothing I can do changes that. I'm currently listening to Radio Paradise and the SQ I'm getting is brilliant but those dropouts are a PIA, to put it mildly. In 10 days time I should have fibre optic BBand available which the provider estimates will give me a dowload speed of 34.4 MBps instead of the current norm of 13 to 14 MBps - is this likely to give me less dropouts on wireless connections? Dave. the fibreoptic won't change the WIFI issue. I think the key issue you need to fix now is getting the touch setup to run via ethernet. Your dropouts are likely due to either poor WIFI strength (what does the touch report?) or interference from other nearby wifi networks or something else. But again, you CAN connect it via ethernet to solve all those issues so you need to get that figured out. Have you tried a different plug on the switch. Have you tried a different ethernet cable. Maybe something simple like a bad cable or bad jack on switch is causing your problem with not connecting via ethernet. But again, somehow, that's the issue that I'd advise you to work on until resolved. -- garym garym's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17325 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=85818 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] No track name, no album art
Hi Guys, particularly garym and toby10, I've swapped the ethernet cable and the socket on the ethernet switch, none of which has made the slightest difference. I can connect wirelessly, with dropouts, without any trouble but it refuses to make an ethernet connection, giving the error message, Cannot find DCHP address for this network. I can confirm that the label on the back of the switch clearly identifies it as a switch and only a switch - no mention of hub - it is a Tenda 5 port switch if that is relevant. (1 in and 4 out) Coincidentally, or maybe not, ALL the options in the 'Playing Now' scrolling screen continue to be ALL lit and all track and cover art information disappears after a few track have been played. Just to see if it is any different I have tonight chosen the Spectrum Analyser option - this, along with the track information is currently being displayed but I've only played 4 or 5 tracks so far. But even assuming it is a switch, try this experiment. Move the Touch next to your router (temporarily). Plug it in to the router via ethernet and then go through the commands toby10 recommended to switch to ethernet: Touch Settings Advanced Networking Choose Network Connect to Ethernet Network Does it get an address and connect in these circumstances. If it does then that means something is odd about your switch or hub or whatever it is. Please try this and report back on what happens. p.s. The fact that all the now playing screen options are lit is no issue whatsoever. This just means that you can cycle through these options by tapping on the screen. (tap and you get art and info, tap again you get just art, tap again you get VU meter, etc.). This is NOT related to your issue (which I think is just poor WIFI connection). This is why getting this ethernet connection issue solved is primary. -- garym garym's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17325 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=85818 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Hi Gary, I will do as you suggest but it may take a while because my router is in one room and my switch and PC and Touch are in another so I need to obtain a long-ish ethernet cable. ATM I have wired 4 rooms in my house with Cat5e cable from the router so I need a switch to give me ethernet connections to my stuff in the listening/viewing room. And 'Yes' it is a 5 port switch - the '1 in 4 out' comment was mine, thinking it would help to explain what it does - none of the ports is marked either 'In' or 'Out'. And I am aware that tapping on the choices in the 'Playing Now' screen enables me to select or deselect each choice but no matter which choice I go for, when I navigate back to the same screen ALL the choices are 'lit'. It may not be associated to the ethernet connection problem but surely it is not as it should be? Me being a know nothing numptie I have no idea whether the two things are related so I just thought I'd throw it in to complete the picture. Thanks again for your interest and help, Dave. Edit/PS. I've just had a further thought: things have moved on since I wired up 4 rooms with Cat5e cable and one of them is no longer needed so I could re-route that cable directly to the Touch. This would give it a direct route back to the router which might help and shouldn't do any harm. [SlimDevices: Touch] No track name, no album art
I've seen this posted elsewhere a long time ago, but after a search - I can't find it anymore. Sorry if this is redundant. After running on my music - random mix - song mix for 10-20 songs, my Squeezebox Touch stops displaying any info about the track. This includes the album, artist, track, or album art. It does display the song name briefly, when it starts the song - but it doesn't behave like it normally should. If I go back to the playlist, it doesn't show anything that was playing recently. The only way I can get it to work normally is to pull the plug and restart the device. I'm running v7.5.3 r9283 on the device and SqueezeServer v7.5.3 r31792 on XP. Any suggestions or advice?
