Any case... is there some way to customize the SBT server?
I would uncheck the automatic file scanning (and activate it only if

Thanks in advance.

Not much, no. Unless you want to venture and edit configuration files on

the command line using ssh and vi :-).

In Settings/Advanced you can enable SSH (Remote access). Then you'll
find the configuration file in /etc/squeezecenter. I'd suggest you play
with the prefs on a desktop installation before you start tinkering on the
device. And always keep a copy of the working file..

Unfortunately it's not quite this simple, a number of the important
files get regenrated at boot time (I don't remember exactly which
ones) so just changing the file doesn't work. I experimented with this
a while back and wound up having to write some patches and apply them
from linix at the correct place in the boot process, after the files get
rewritten but before the server gets started. Unfortunately it's been
awhile and the machine I did all this on is no longer with us so I
don't have the details.

Another option is to find where in the boot code the files are being
re-written and stop it, but it turned out to be multiple places, it was
easier to just aply a patch after the re-writes.

So the simple answer is it CAN be done, but it aint easy!

server.prefs should not be re-generated - and that's where most changes
would go. Just make sure the server is not running when you edit the file,
as in that case it _will_ be overwritten sooner or later. There's a json
file in the prefs folder with information about the media connected etc.
That's the one which gets generated whenever you start the device or plug
something in.

So the simple answer is it CAN be done, but it aint easy!

Will reply to my own thread. After reading some experiences from other

This is really a relief, it seems most of the problems are gone and
spotify works reliable as well. server 7.6.x is very unreliable and has

That was cool. An Android application is defined using one or more of
Android's four core application components. Two such application
components are defined in this package: Activity and Service. The other
two components are from the android.content package: BroadcastReceiver
and ContentProvider.

Make your life much easier with this “1 Touch Love You” text messaging
application. You don’t have to fumble around with texting when you are
in a hurry or in your car. Just open the app and click “Pick-N-Send” or
“Send Random.” Making your loved ones day is as simple as that! You can
earn 7 love conversation libraries with 50 or so versions of each so
you don’t have to type so much. You can check out 'Search Engine
Optimization Spokane'
for more information. This app will not only save you time but it will
strengthen your relationship with your loved one. Making saying “I love
you” as hassle free as you can will make it so you do it more often. Who
couldn’t use more “I love you” text messages from you? This will improve
your life if you use it enough.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Touch needs server for various things?

2010-08-04 Thread Mars Warrior

Ok. Small update.

Everything seems to work since I switched explicitly to MySB. I do
understand that there might be some issues using MySB, but in my
situation, using a Touch only, it seems to work very good in
combination with the applets running on the Touch (Soma FM, Last.fm,
etc.).

Running a server 24/7 is no option for me. I find it just as 'weird' as
having your motor engine runing 24/7, or having the lights on 24/7 or
the heating on 24/7 for just a few hours of traveling, darkness and
cold.
As the server is also used for real-time transcoding movies(PS3, iPad),
it's a rather fast server with a relative high idle power consumption...
So the server is running on-demand using WOL over LAN WAN and that
saves me about €100/year on my electricity bill.

Since I'm using the Touch, I am considering using TinySC and a small
mobile harddisk in the future once TinySC / SC matured a bit and all
plug-ins have been made compatible with the new version.
The mentioned Sheeva/Guruplug combined with again a mobile harddisk is
also a viable solution, but I let them fix the powersupply overheating
issues first ;)

Glad to hear things are running better now. One thing, note that SomaFM,
Last.fm, etc are apps not applets. Apps are really services, and
even though the interface talks about installing them, they really
aren't installing anything. Applets, on the other hand, are things that
you actually install and run on the player. Applets only work with newer
players (SB Controller, Radio, and Touch), whereas apps also work with
older players like the Boom, SB3/Classic, etc. So there are plugins,
apps, and applets. Confused? You're not alone. Basically Logitech
decided to jump on the iThing bandwagon and get app-happy with what
are basically internet services for the SB.

Since you have your server running on-demand via WOL, I don't
understand why you presume a SB server would have to be on 24/7. SBS
can be run on-demand as well. In fact the SrvrPowerCtrl plugin has lots
of great options, including switching your players over to mysb.com
after a certain idle period, and then suspending/hibernating/shutting
down your server. Getting that to play nicely with your video serving
could take some work, but running a local music server does _not_ imply
it has to be on 24/7. Granted, you'll want to get your SBC WOL problem
sorted out first -- did you ever check if audio playback was enabled on
the SBC, and if it was, disabling it?

Oh, and if you're waiting for SBS plugins to be compatible with TinySBS
you'll be waiting a long time. The current lack of plugin support on
TinySBS was a conscious decision related to hardware limitations. I
doubt you'll ever see many (any?) plugins for TinySBS on the current
Touch hardware.

I'm using WHS as the OS and LightsOut to control suspending the server,

And yes, I didn't imply that the server must be on 24/7, the Touch does

That might be the case, but I can shutdown the Touch also from other

bug in the Controller which I want to get rid off...

Wouldn't it be weird if you push the off button on your TV, Stereo or

your TV/Stereo/VCR off using that specific remote?

Remember that I turned the Touch off, so even if the Controller got
confused by that simple action, it should see that there are NO players
active, or at least not the player it was previously connected to.

So what would be the reasoning behind waking-up the server constantly
while no player is active?

Sorry, I thought you were trying to stop your server from waking up. If
you really want to tackle it at the source, you can take a look at the
traffic with Wireshark (or similar tool) to see what the cause is for
the SBC to be sending magic packets.

To be honest, I haven't been following the ups and downs of WOL on the
SBC since 7.3.3. There was a time when you couldn't get the SBC to send
a WOL packet, and now you're having the opposite problem. Fyi, one
typical reason to wake the server (but not constantly) when there is no
player active is in advance of triggering an alarm.

Yes, I'm trying to stop my server from waking up, and I know for sure
it's the Controller because if I shutdown the Controller, the server
keeps sleeping/hibernating.
Once I switch the Touch on again, the server is woken again (WOL works
perfectly with the Touch!).
I will however follow your advice and check the magic packets send to
the server...

AFAIK I have no alarms set, but will check that once again.
What I see on the Controller, is that the Controller still thinks that

Was Touch playing from the local server, then the controller gets it's
info from that server too (not directly from the Touch), so when it
sleeps or get turned of naturally controller wont get any status update
regarding what the Touch is doing .

In generall any device ir-remote controller webpage iPhone ,what not .

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Touch needs server for various things?

2010-08-03 Thread Mars Warrior

Right ;)

Since I learned some new features, I had to test them:
- I manually connected the Controller to MySB, and WOW, I can add
favourites which do show up on MySB (checked using web browser on PC)
- While the Controller is connected to MySB, I can control the Touch
(stations, volume etc.)
- While the server is turned off, I can now select (the previously
stored) favourites.

But I'm also understanding (bit-by-bit) more why I was confused why I
would need the server for just the above things: If I connect to my
music library on the server, I can do exactly the same things, but
everything is running 'through' the server of which I wasn't aware off:
I thought it would directly connect to the internet. On top of that, the
Controller remembers that it was connected to the music library on the
server, and tries to reconnect, even for playing internet radio or
accessing favourites on MySB.

The iPhone isn't in at the moment, but I assume that one works the same
once connected to MySB instead of my music library on the server.

Why the Controller keeps waking-up my server in some situations is
still not clear to me, but I guess once I can reproduce the problem,
the solution is around the corner...

Leaves me to one question: why doesn't the Touch (and/or Controller)
switch to MySB while playing internetradio so that the server can go
hibernate?

One possibility is time. Squeezeplay devices (the SBC is one) try and
sync their internal clock to the server clock every hour.

One reason for not doing that automatically is that some users like to
retain the use of plugins (note plugins, not applets), which are only
available with a local SBS, not with mysb.com. There are probably other
reasons, but that's the first one that comes to mind at present.

On Touch add switch to MySB to the home menu, then you can quickly and
easily switch to MySB before starting a radio session.
To get back to your local music just go to My Music and your local
server will be offered (assuming it is running).

I cannot say if the Controller has a switch to MySB option.

agree. I would not want my players to automatically switch to mysb.com
if playing internet radio. In my opinion, the best approach is to have
a computer on 24/7 (even a tiny computer like a sheevaplug) and ALWAYS
use SbS. You can do anything you can do from mysb.com if you simply

Favorites stored on MySB are usable from both the server and MySB.

Also true with ipeng. that is, swipe back to the left screen in ipeng
and select mysqueezebox.com instead of your server. You'll then see
your player.

Of course all this is much, much simpler if you just leave your server
running 24/7. Then there is no reason to switch back and forth to
mysb.com.

Well, it took a while, but my new Touch arrived today. You guys were
correct about my multiple album issues.

Just wanted to say thanks.

I wouldn't dismiss the possibility of running your server over a
wireless connection until you try it first. Many people with healthy
wireless networks are doing this. Standard redbook (16/44.1) FLAC
shouldn't present a problem and artwork is resized on the server, not
the Touch.

This may be an explanation why you are getting double albums. It's just
some stuff that you once had on the drive but was deleted and forgotten
 about.

I really believe you are on to something. I thought the USB HD would
use the same recycle bin as my PC. Interesting. Also, when I checked
the USB HD's recycle bin, indeed there were over 3,500 deleted files on
it (long story short- I had to re-rip most of my CDs after subjecting
the flacs to the evils of track leveling in MediaMonkey).

Alas, after deleting the files, I plugged my Touch in and nothing
happened. It was the wrong AC adapter! It was the AC adapter for my WD
hard drive! I have two WD HDs and had accidentally grabbed the unused
one and plugged it into my Touch!

Bad news: Touch was fried.

Good news: Believe it or not, Logitech is going to replace it.

Anger over my stupidity and relief over Logitech's CS. I thought for
sure I was holding a $300.00 brick. Well I am, but the brick will be
replaced.

Thanks for the info on the fix for my multiple albums. After I get my
new Touch, I'll let you know if it worked. I'm sure it will, it will
just take a while to find out.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Touch internal server VS Web Server- Tags

2010-04-23 Thread aubuti

It's essentially the same server (actually the server on the Touch is
closer to 7.6 than 7.5, because it uses SQLite on the backend). Are you
sure your scan on the Touch ran to completion? Have you checked the
logs? Beyond that, it would help to isolate a particular case that is
not displaying correctly on the Touch, and provide more specific
details than -shows multiple albums, different artwork, etc.-. From
there it should be easier to troubleshoot your problem.

How does the Touch's internal server read tags differently than the
 Web/PC version?

Obviously some of my tags are screwed-up, as the Touch shows multiple
albums, different artwork, etc. I connected the same WD 2 TB HD to my
PC and it was a stark difference. No multiple albums, and it was much
 cleaner.

I would run the server on my PC if my network were wired, but that is
out of the question for my setup. Using Ipeng on my Ipod Touch would
most likely choke on my Hi-res artwork and large collection of flac
 files.

So why is the Touch's internal server having such a hard time with tags
compared to the server on the PC?

 Thanks.

cheers for that, I'll give it a try when it arrives.

Out of curiosity, would it be possible to map a drive on the Touch so
that it's internal SBS can access a NAS drive, or can it only use USB?

I'm pretty sure this can be done. You would need to ssh in to the SBT
and issue the correct mount commands to logically mount the NAS as a
filesystem on the SBT. Others have said that scanning in this
configuration would likely be very slow.

Already done and available on the SBC and SB Radio as well as the SB
Touch. There's the flickr plugin for grabbing photos (yours or other
people's) off the internet, or locally stored photos from the Image
Viewer option.

Any comments on this?

Depends. Some people have no problem with double hops on regular SBS,
and I would expect that it would be the same for 'TinySC' on the SB
Touch. Of course, it certainly can't hurt to wire the SBT.

the button on the upper left of the screen? I would think so, but I
haven't tried it yet.

In that same off mode, ahem standby :), can the Touch rotate images

It wouldn't be hard to add.
