I really like it, it's nice and bright and seems balanced.

My only critique is that the icons are repetitive, even one more design
would be handy. There are some nice pictograms here I found:

http://spreadubuntu.org/en/material/site-button/ubuntu-pictograms-i-events

Note: I filed a bug so we could do a search for spreadubuntu items with
svg sources to make it easier to find good source material. Just put svg
into the source extension box (not ideal) and limit the results to all
those with svg sources.

I have to say this is one of the easiest to read re-designs I have seen
now. Thanks for that.

Unfortunately, and maybe it is a bad perception on my part, I see at
least three separate ways links are treated there. The main page treats
links by changing the color when I hover over them. The banner leaves
the white link white, with no change as I hover. The links under the
banner are split. Todays posts and FAQ underline the link, the next
three actually use an orange highlight with reverse white text, I think.

Is this intended?

Sweet, new menu's!

A few tidbits:

- The navlinks class has a border-top of 1px, I don't really see a need
for it.
- The front page still has a title and subtitle (Ubuntu Forums and
Welcome to...), these seem redundant. Is this fixable?
- Another icon we can replace is the lastpost-arrow [1]. I used an image [2]
form the Ubuntu website to create something similar [3]. It's a quick job
though, it doesn't look good yet at such a small size [4].

Graphically, these are much better. Though, on ubuntu.com, the
pictograms are kept in orange.

But what you have here are illustrations, not statusicons that indicate
the presence or lack of unread posts, plus whether there is a single
forum page or set of forums (called a category). (At least I guess the
read/unread thing applies to Category icons, too.)

In any case, I see a problem of weighting: the icons look like they
would be the most important thing in the body area, by far.

That's why I used rather small stars on
http://www.foopics.com/showfull/24cab922804efd5587f7d8d6109d168a
These rather simple and symmetric don't call for attention so much. The
Category titles/links are marked by the lack of stars!

BTW, I noticed the light gray for the forum is #f7f6f5. It should be
#f7f7f7, like used on ubuntu.com.

Flat gray content boxes are a big improvement.

Besides what I noted elsewhere:

Grey bar, containing Today's Posts ... : orange shines through on the
bottom corners.

Initially I thought Community, Forum Actions and Quick Links would
be naked until hover. Only now I see there are white arrowheads. Needs
more contrast, meaning they have to be darker than the background.

I think you should get rid of the gap between that bar and the
page (the 2 lines of dots shining through).

- From a user with visual impairments, can't links be made a different
color than the heading and text? Trying to determine what is actually a
link means at least hovering over every item in White text. This makes
it much harder to use the page.

The new site is coming together with a very professional look. Thorsten

The thing which caught my eye were the icons. They are drawn as buttons

 jef,

Thank you for offering to assist. Our process would have Mike prepare a
specification. Give me a couple of days to follow up.

 John

Hi John,

Yes, I talked with Mike today and he said he'd draw up a list of things that
still need to be done.

I'll hang around. :)
