I am new to the art team, and would like to ask where would be the best place to post my new Long Term Vision theme, a follow-up to Gimmie-Human. I would ordinarily post a new theme directly under the Incoming/Intrepid sub-directory, but this is a very ambitious re-envisioning of Ubuntu and probably not totally implementable in one development cycle. I would like to modularize aspects of the theme realization, such that work could begin under Intrepid, and then continue implementing other modules in subsequent releases until completion or another vision takes its place. Its mentioned on the main Artwork (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork) page, as well as the Incoming page, a little lower down. Obviously this is not working, so if anyone has a suggestion to help make this a little clearer, please email me :). If you have a complete concept that is meant to be developed outside of the regular release cycle, such as Blubuntu--please use the /PageTemplate and put your page in /Incoming. I don't know about Reiser, but on other file systems you can specifiy the block/cluster size, if this isn't the same on both of your filesystems, then there would be more slack space on the destination, which would have the effect you're seeing... That's the thing. Both filesystems are exactly the same. Why is it using more space? Is it something to do with the way LVM allocates space? By periphials I include such things as printers / USB Drives / sticks, PDA, etc etc Cheers Ian You can add printers afterwards, chances are if you have something like a HP or Epson printer then the drivers will be built into the OS. If it's USB then it should also be detected and configured for you. You might also want any USB hard drives that you normally have plugged in attached as you should be able to specify the mount point for them at installation (just be careful not to format them), but again it's not a major task to add them afterwards. As far as the PDA is concerned, not sure on that. I have a Palm V with a serial cradle and I had to manually specify that I had it attached to get it to work. I think you'll find that most if not all of your hardware will have drivers built in if you're lucky (might be an issue with some wireless devices). From experience though, most things when plugged in are detected, the driver loads and it works first time (and within a couple of seconds which is quicker in Ubuntu than it is in Windows for me!). Now that is strange. I'd expect it if they were different block sizes, and possibly if they were different file systems but not if they're the same filesystem. I'm stumped for ideas. Have you tried backing up to an ext3 filesystem? I'm creating an ext3 filesystem with a block size of 1024. Hopefully the smaller block size will reduce wastage as I have lots of small files. Hi, I have several vhs tapes of family videos I need to convert to a file that will play using a computer. Does anyone know of a program that works well with orca that can do this. I would be feeding the tapes in using a capture device. I started on this project a few weeks ago. But other things came up, so I am just now getting back to it.Thanks for any help, Mike. Im going to look into it tonight but after testing on my XP partition its a real dog to get running under XP with the device changing modes every 5 seconds for a good minute or two before it can actually connect to the internet. I dont think these devices were real well designed but at least now they dont play up under Linux and go straight to modem mode. Any hint on how to use the detected modem to connect to the net will be appreciated for me and im sure others. Im gonna have a hack at it myself anyway and ill post how hard or simple it was to get working for others using the list. Ok so an update on this. Thanks alot for the help with this :) So I took the advice and disabled ACPI in the BIOS. Wouldnt boot, but then my research showed adding acpi=off into the grub boot line made it get into init. The init is messy, with messages like fatal error cant find battery (battery.ko) twice, and I no longer get times in my var kernel log outputs. It may very well be issues I can ignore but it just doesnt feel right. So I joined the acpi kernel list and reported the issue. I just hope Andrew Morton is wrong and I get a patch fixing this bug :) Ive since learnt that Intel has a direct bug line for ACPI issues and VIA doesnt. VIA is apparently known for ACPI dramas. It is somewhat comforting to be able to deflect my emotions away from Linux and onto that evil company called Via!! Ubuntu Studio Wine Color Scheme
Hi all! I just installed Wine 1.0 and I'm wondering if there is a Wine Color Scheme for Ubuntu Studio, just like there is one for Standard Ubuntu (maybe this would be a good thing to add to the themes section on the Ubuntu Studio Wiki). I'm well aware this isn't a priority (I don't mind using the Human Theme colours on Wine). I'm just asking this just in case someone already did a Ubuntu Studio Wine Color Scheme. Pessoal, No 8.04 a senha que ele está pedindo não é a do root, e sim a senha do chaveiro padrão... O programa indicado pelo Felipe foi o mesmo que eu alterei, criando um chaveiro padrão, pois ele não existia. O estranho é que mesmo sem o chaveiro padrão o Evolution funcionada, pois basta ignorar o pedido de senha (clicando no botão cancelar ou apertando a tecla ESC). A vantagem de ter criado o chaveiro padrão é que o Evolution só pede agora esta senha ao iniciar e antes ele pedia a cada verificação de e-mail para cada conta. José, vou tentar utilizar funcionalidade do Evolution para ele esquecer todas as senhas, depois vou marcar para ele guardar as senhas para ver se ele para de pedir a senha do chaveiro padrão. Isso significa que ele não vai deixar você instalar o flash por conta de permissões de escrita. Mas o passo 3 do post indica como se faz para aproveitar os plugins. Isso é muito estranho. Também uso o Ubuntu 8.04 64 bits e nunca tive problema com planilhas do OOo. E o Calc é o único aplicativo da suite que eu uso com frequência. Os outros aplicativos do OpenOffice funcionam bem? Estou achando que a mensagem do Java foi uma pista falsa. Tenta abrir o Calc de novo no terminal e vê se a mensagem do Java ainda aparece (isso, se você instalou o pacote 'openoffice.org-java-common'). Se aparecer, abre o Writer e vê se também mostra essa mensagem. Outra coisa... Você fez uma instalação limpa ou atualizou para o 8.04 a partir de uma versão anterior? -- Frederico G. Eu consigo usar as apresentações e o word, mas as planilhas não funcionam, eu consegui mas através do comando openoffice no terminal e criei uma nova planilha, mas através do atalho que tem nas aplicações - escritório - planilhas não funciona. [Ubuntu-BR] Soluções JSMS no Hardy
Para não abrir o jSMS no hardy existem dois possíveis problemas. 1º Se vc instalou o pacote deb desistale e instale como indica aki http://wiki.ubuntu-br.org/jSMS 2º Se não funcionar abra o terminal e digite sudo update-alternatives --config java e escolha como seu servidor de java o java da sun e seu jSMS deve funcinar corretamente. Pessoal, já tentei usar o Ubuntu 64 a um tempo atrás em uma versão mais velha. Mas não rodava o flash corretamente no firefox. O firefox travava. O Flash funciona bem atualmente. É só abir um site que usa Flash e o Firefox vai te perguntar se quer instalar o plugin. Ele te oferece o plugin livre (Gnash) e o proprietário. É só escolher o plugin e reiniciar o Firefox depois de ele estar instalado. O que o Ubuntu faz na realidade, é instalar o plugin 32 bits e um wrapper para ele rodar em um sistema 64 bits. Eu tive uma má experiência da última vez que usei o 64 bits que o firefox não ficava no ar. Toda hora dava erro e fechava. Por isso que perguntei novamente... A especificação chama de temporários porque não é sempre que se mantém um serviço montado. E ai galera, estou com um problema na hora de montar um compartilhamento do meu windows 2003 via samba. Quando acesso pelo Nautilus, a acentuação ta normal. Acesso pelo Nautilus smb://cfserver/arquivo_virtual/ Agora quando vou montar pelo terminal a acentuação ta toda atrapalhada, começa a aparecer uns caracteres loucos. Quando você executou o sudo dpokg --configure -a e ele pediu a senha, ele não retornou nada? Pelo que vejo depois desse comando você tenta executar root como se fosse um programa, e o aplicativo que verifica se o programa não está instalado não funciona adequadamente. Como alterar o ponto de montagem no arquivo /etc/fstab? Eu alterei o ponto de montagem no arquivo de configuração /etc/fstab assim: Ponto de montagem anterior, /media/Disk. # /dev/sda1 UUID=84fd08c1-123a-4ed8-ab23-f8514c7dbcf5 /media/diskext3 defaults,umask=007,gid=46 00 Ponto de montagem depois da alteracao, /mnt/sda1. # /dev/sda1 UUID=84fd08c1-123a-4ed8-ab23-f8514c7dbcf5 /mnt/sda1ext3 users,defaults,umask=007,gid=46 00 Obs: A alteracao no ponto de mopntagem foi feito como usuario root, alem da alteracao no ponto e montagem, acrecentado a opcao: users, com a finalidade de poder ler e gravar na partiçao como usuario comum. Eu criei o diretorio em /mnt/sda1, como usuario root. O problema é que depois da alteracao no ponto de montagem, desapareceu o icone de atalho para a particao /dev/sda1 em Locais Computador. Para solucionar o problema gerei uma nova UUID com o comando: # uuidgen /dev/sda1 ffe04c77-0795-4c44-85d0-87156815bbc6 Apos obter o novo numero UUID (ffe04c77-0795-4c44-85d0-87156815bbc6), substitui o numero UUID no arquivo /etc/fstab, (como usuario root) alem de criar o atalho no diretorio /dev/disk/by-uuid com o novo numero UUID apontando para o dispositivo /dev/sda1 (feito como usuario root). Apos a alteracao no arquivo /etc/fstab, ele ficou assim: # /dev/sda1 UUID=ffe04c77-0795-4c44-85d0-87156815bbc6 /mnt/sda1ext3 users,defaults,umask=007,gid=46 00 Obs: A particao /dev/sda1, volto a montar em /media/Disk, apesar do arquivo /etc/fstab, indicar como ponto de montagem o diretorio /mnt/sda1, alem de pedir a senha de root para acessar a particao, apesar de ter incluido a opcao: users, que parece nao ter tido efeito. Parece que no Ubuntu o ponto de montagem e a permicao de acesso a particao sao determinado pelo UUID e o arquivo de configuracao /etc/fstab so funciona o UUID, despresando todas as outras Configuracoes realizadas no arquivo /etc/fstab. Olhem o esperimento que realizei: $ sudo su # mcedit /etc/fstab Observem que so deixei o UUID da particao, salvei as configuracoes e reiniciei o computador: # /dev/sda1 UUID=ffe04c77-0795-4c44-85d0-87156815bbc6 Agora nao desapareceu o icone de atalho para a particao /dev/sda1, em Locais Computador porque eu gerei o novo UUID para a particao e nem alterou o ponto de montagem feito pelo instalador do Ubuntu ou seja /media/Disk, apesar de que na instalacao eu indiquei o ponto de montagem para o diretorio /mnt/sda1, demostrando que as opcoes e o ponto de montagem indicados no arquivo de configuracao /etc/fstab nao tem nenhuma finalidade e o que determina o ponto de montagem e as permicoes de acesso as particoes sao os UUIDs. Eu uso o Ubuntu 7.10, talvez isso seja um bug da versao. Se alguem souber como configurar o UUID da particao para alterar o ponto de montagem e as opcoes e puder me dar uma ajuda, desde ja eu agradeco. - Novos endereços, o Yahoo! que você conhece. Caros amigos, Estou trabalhando com a última versão do Ubuntu. Ocorre que o próprio sistema se incumbiu de atualizar o kernel e o resultado é o que o arquivo grub.lst, por ocasião do dual boot, lista um montão de possibilidades de boot para o Ubuntu. Como faço para que apareça somente a última versão do kernel, e o Windows? Brigadão por qualquer dica que me ajude a reconfigurar a grub.lst. [Ubuntu-BR] Como Alterar o ponto de montagem no arquivo /etc/fstab?
Como alterar o ponto de montagem no arquivo /etc/fstab? Eu alterei o ponto de montagem no arquivo de configuração /etc/fstab assim: Ponto de montagem anterior, /media/Disk. # /dev/sda1 UUID=84fd08c1-123a-4ed8-ab23-f8514c7dbcf5 /media/diskext3 defaults,umask=007,gid=46 00 Ponto de montagem depois da alteracao, /mnt/sda1. # /dev/sda1 UUID=84fd08c1-123a-4ed8-ab23-f8514c7dbcf5 /mnt/sda1ext3 users,defaults,umask=007,gid=46 00 Obs: A alteracao no ponto de mopntagem foi feito como usuario root, alem da alteracao no ponto e montagem, acrecentado a opcao: users, com a finalidade de poder ler e gravar na partiçao como usuario comum. Eu criei o diretorio em /mnt/sda1, como usuario root. O problema é que depois da alteracao no ponto de montagem, desapareceu o icone de atalho para a particao /dev/sda1 em Locais Computador. Para solucionar o problema gerei uma nova UUID com o comando: # uuidgen /dev/sda1 ffe04c77-0795-4c44-85d0-87156815bbc6 Apos obter o novo numero UUID (ffe04c77-0795-4c44-85d0-87156815bbc6), substitui o numero UUID no arquivo /etc/fstab, (como usuario root) alem de criar o atalho no diretorio /dev/disk/by-uuid com o novo numero UUID apontando para o dispositivo /dev/sda1 (feito como usuario root). Apos a alteracao no arquivo /etc/fstab, ele ficou assim: # /dev/sda1 UUID=ffe04c77-0795-4c44-85d0-87156815bbc6 /mnt/sda1ext3 users,defaults,umask=007,gid=46 00 Obs: A particao /dev/sda1, volto a montar em /media/Disk, apesar do arquivo /etc/fstab, indicar como ponto de montagem o diretorio /mnt/sda1, alem de pedir a senha de root para acessar a particao, apesar de ter incluido a opcao: users, que parece nao ter tido efeito. Parece que no Ubuntu o ponto de montagem e a permicao de acesso a particao sao determinado pelo UUID e o arquivo de configuracao /etc/fstab so funciona o UUID, despresando todas as outras Configuracoes realizadas no arquivo /etc/fstab. Olhem o esperimento que realizei: $ sudo su # mcedit /etc/fstab Observem que so deixei o UUID da particao, salvei as configuracoes e reiniciei o computador: # /dev/sda1 UUID=ffe04c77-0795-4c44-85d0-87156815bbc6 Agora nao desapareceu o icone de atalho para a particao /dev/sda1, em Locais Computador porque eu gerei o novo UUID para a particao e nem alterou o ponto de montagem feito pelo instalador do Ubuntu ou seja /media/Disk, apesar de que na instalacao eu indiquei o ponto de montagem para o diretorio /mnt/sda1, demostrando que as opcoes e o ponto de montagem indicados no arquivo de configuracao /etc/fstab nao tem nenhuma finalidade e o que determina o ponto de montagem e as permicoes de acesso as particoes sao os UUIDs. Eu uso o Ubuntu 7.10, talvez isso seja um bug da versao. Isso de não poder definir alguns atalhos é questão de programa, não dá para o openoffice ser igualzinho a sua alternativa proprietária. Só para explicar melhor, alguns atalhos estão em cinza para evitar maiores problemas, por exemplo, F1 é a tecla de ajuda universal, e por esse motivo ela está em cinza, para não modificarmos ela, imagina um outro usuário pegar seu computador e ver uma tecla dessas com alguma função importante modificada? Algumas teclas também podem ser atalhos do seu sistema. Assim, se você modificasse, você teria um comportamento diferente dentro do openoffice e no seu sistema... Algo que não é desejável... O melhor mesmo seria esquecer, neste caso, a compatibilidade com o outro editor de texto, criando uma tecla de atalho melhor, mas próxima para os dedos, e talvez, mais fácil de lembrar... (Shift+F3 é ruim de apertar com os dedos e não muito fácil de memorizar por si só... hehehee) Lembrando que você pode pegar alguma tecla de atalho que você não usa, mas está disponível, e colocar para fazer o que você quer... :D 2)Eu concordo com você, achei as opções de Personalizar meio estranhas. Até não me espanto tanto já que é uma função não muito utiliza pela maioria dos usuários, quem geralmente usa é aquele usuário que já sabe o que ela faz, e sabe como e o que quer fazer. Ainda assim, deveria ser melhorada. Não sei se foi a tradução, ou se já vem assim do original. De qualquer forma, você pode procurar o pessoal da tradução do Openoffice que provavelmente eles lhe darão mais informações a respeito. help, Meu MP3/Pen drive 2Gb, USB 2.0, genérico (chinês), sist. arquivo fat16, não é detectado no Ubuntu 8.04 hardy. Já conectei em todas as portas USB 1.1 do peu PC (infelizmente não tem porta 2.0 para pendrive, só para cartão), porem não é como se não existisse nada conectado. Não aparece na lista do lsusb, nem fdisk -l. Nada... Apenas acede a luz do dispositivo. No WinXP, funciona normalmente. Fui orientado a instalar o automatix, mas não foi possível por estar descontinuado. Testei inclusive bootando pelo Live CD Fedora 8, Mandriva, Kurumin, ou seja, o linux não acha meu mp3 ??? Приветствую! В очередной раз встала проблема удалить несколько последних установленных пакетов. Можно конечно это сделать вручную с использованием историю и GUI Synaptic, но хотелось бы автоматизировать процесс. Маны synaptic, apt-get, dpkg курил, не нашёл. Bug Impact: nagios2 is configured by default with notification commands that make use of /bin/mail rather than /usr/bin/mail. That forces all Nagios users to fix this default configuration file if they want to make use of mail-based notifications (which is a very common use case). This is more a user experience of Ubuntu integration bug, and it can easily be workaround-ed with a one-time config file fix. Affected supported releases: feisty, gutsy, hardy. Given the type of bug (only first-time installs affected) I would propose SRU-ing it for hardy only. Development branch fix: nagios3 is shipped with Intrepid. This series has a configure file fix that allows to generate correct default configuration files in the build process. Minimal patch: see previous comment. TEST CASE: $ sudo apt-get install nagios2 $ grep mail /etc/nagios2/commands.cfg [ shows that commands.cfg calls /bin/mail for notification commands, should be /usr/bin/mail ] I can also provide a more complex test case (involving Nagios configuration) where those notifications would be used and trigger an error message. Regression potential discussion: This update only impacts the commands.cfg file, to replace occurences of /bin/mail with /usr/bin/mail.
