Re: Our biweekly meetings

2011-09-09 Thread Barry Warsaw
Apologies for the delayed response. Note that we ended up not meeting on
Wednesday because it was only Jelmer and myself. ;) Maybe the thing to do is
to suspend the meetings until we have a clear agenda for them moving forward.

Note that I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing! While there are some
big ticket items that really need addressing (e.g. the quilt story), for me,
UDD is a huge success. Despite the warts, I personally can't imagine working
any other way.

A common theme these days: let's celebrate your successes!

One possible change in format would be to do a lightning round, and just go
around the table with each person identifying one or two items they've run
into, fixed, hacked on, or have a wild idea about. I would certainly love to
hear about what you guys are excited about that might be coming soon. If
there was some new feature, I'd be happy to run a dev branch for a bit to try
things out.

A great example is the branch status messages that bzr now gives. The
original status lines needed a bit of tweaking, but now that it's landed, I am
absolutely ecstatic about the feature. JAM, you nailed it!

I think a part of this is also that UDD as a project doesn't really have
releases - and no really visible changelog. So despite a lot of things
getting done, we normally wouldn't hear about them.

Agreed. The lightning round might do the trick there.

Another thing that was occasionally useful was discussions about particular
problems, like what to do about the project branch and packaging branch for a
native package. The mailing list seems to work reasonably well for that sort
of discussion too though, when it happens to come up.

What do you think about this: after the lightening round, we can have one or
two brief discussions on any particular design or implementation point for
which the higher bandwidth would be useful?

Mostly, I want to cut out the boring parts of the meeting, or anything we can
do just as well over email. Let's make the meetings fun and interesting to
participate in, and maybe we'd get more than just us chiming in. :)

Cheers,
-Barry

I think it can be a really good way to help *me* keep an ear out for
what the current warts of the system are, and what would really help
real-world use. Especially stuff like the informational notes. It can be
easy to get stuck on some major thing (quilt merging), and not get
papercuts fixed.

So why exactly are you using localepurge? And why are you complaining

Thanks for responding.
I do not have any major breakage in the system. Debdelta NEEDS the locale
files to recreate the .debs from the installed package and the downloaded
delta. In the absence of the locale files, debdelta returns an error x
(number) of locales missing, hence package creation failed. So how can this
be now resolved? I have now removed pocalepurge, but some of the locales are
still missing. I had used locale purge to remove unnecessary files on the
system, but this is an unintended effect.

So

1. How to use debdelta and avoid having packages not created because of
missing locale files. Is there a work around or is it an either use
(debdelta)
 or use (localepurge) case?

And completed unrelated to localepurge and debdelta

2. How to create a package download script from the command line (apt-get)
that won't include the packages already existing/created using debdelta? I
think synaptic includes those already present? Correct me if I am wrong?

Hope I am clear now.

for RA not working are:

- Your host has IPv6 forwarding enabled so won't listen to RA by

- You've blocked ICMPv6 router-advertisement inbound and/or ICMPv6

Could either of those be the case?

No and no. If you flush ip6tables you don't get an address via RA. If

Ubuntu 11.10 Kernel Configurations

2011-09-09 Thread Leann Ogasawara
Hi All,

With the Ubuntu 11.10 Kernel Freeze approaching, the Ubuntu Kernel Team
felt this would also be an appropriate time to advertise what we intend
to be the final kernel configurations for all the main distro and ports
kernel flavors. The purpose is to expose the main configuration changes
and provide pointers to the full configurations for those who are
interested. To aid in the comparison of kernel config changes from
Ubuntu 11.04 (Natty) to Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric) we have generated a delta
report [1]. We have also posted the full Ubuntu 11.04 and Ubuntu 11.10
configurations for each flavor [2].

Thanks,

We have a script for mass bug filing in Ubuntu Dev Tools, but the
interface is ugly and could use improvement.

Does anyone actually use it? Most automated bug filing I know about is
done with custom scripts for the job.

I'd rather remove it than let it rot in a corner.

UI freeze exception request: network-manager-openvpn 0.9.0-0ubuntu1

2011-09-09 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
Hi,

I would like to update network-manager-openvpn to the current latest
release 0.9.0. We're already at a fairly recent pre-release of 0.9.0,
so there aren't all that many changes besides translation updates.

It however adds a few small fixes, including unbreaking translations
of strings in the UI: those were previously always actually
translated; but the UI code was incorrect blocking the translations
from being used. The rest is code cleanup and small fixes.

However, there is one additional change: adding a password type combo;
which introduces three extra strings to be translated: Saved,
Always Ask, and Not required, being types of passwords for details
on how to save them in the keyring.

Technically, another extra string is added for the RSA-MD4 HMAC digest
algorithm; but this is not a translatable string (extra option for
digest algo. to be chosen by the user, relevant for documentation).

FWIW; the accompanying freeze exception bug is here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager-openvpn/+bug/846037
. It includes the full debdiff; build logs, install logs.

fazer a mesma coisa, caso queiram usar a versão oficial. No caso do
versões instaladas (OpenJDK + Oracle JDK), e o uso do
No

/usr/bin/gij-4.4
/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk/jre/bin/java
/usr/local/jdk1.6.0_26/bin/java
/usr/local/jdk1.7.0/bin/java

Levei a

pareceu-me muito estranho.

Levei a

pareceu-me muito estranho.

porque (acredite-me) é mais fácil.

 ufw status numbered
para listar as regras de maneira numerada
 ufw delete 7
para apagar a regra 7
 ufw insert 7 ...

GNOME-look.org e KDE-Look.org.

Aí, veio o time do KDE e mudou toda a interface, adicionou um renovado

utilização do sistema.
“evangelizados”) e digitar “writer”, pressionar Enter e pronto. O

“conservadores” querem e parar a inovação. Isso é “uma faca de dois
legumes”.

e a inovação.

- Warddr is going to ask Mobile Vikings if they can secure us a 3G

3G is a best effort... only there when available I have one in
Ostend... but not in Iseghem...
also speed is locked to 512kbit by Base Mobile Vikings can't give you
more speed...

Don't expect to download an 1 gigabyte ISO within 8 hours with that
speed...
You could check 1 gmail session in basic html ... or in special mobile
version found on smartphones...

Basicly the 3G offered by Proximus Mobistar is still better in
availability AND speed...
but not necessarlly in price (they still think 50mbyte is enough?)

Other solution:
Belgacom Internet users get a free sim card to have 3G Weekend offering...
it's only limited in time (weekend) and size (512mbyte) but you get a
lot of speed...
http://www.bizztime.be/mobiel_internet_weekend

no idea when you pass the 512mbyte marker...

In antwerp I've got 3g speeds of 250KiB (bytes, not bits) / sec. That's
not a lot, but enough for some users to use the internet simultaniously.

The internet at my school is capped to 60KiB, so a lot better.
I'll send them a mail, it can always be usefull to google something at
the boot if there are any questions we don't know the answer to.

Hi,

Nice to see three people stepping up for the website. I highly
encourage you to work as a team instead of a single person. That way,
you won't feel alone and the need for coordination leads to better
documentation and/or communication. Even when in Canada, I can still
take the time to answer any question you may have regarding
Ubuntu-be.org's website.

About the 3G connections. I don't see a 512Kps cap when testing my
Mobile Vikings connection in Brussels with the SpeedTest.net
application. It reports 962 kbps on download and 423 on upload with a
160ms ping using an HSDPA network.

- openetherpad
- private IRC channel (for example
#mysecretchanneltodiscussthenewubuntutopic)
- using ; to address a mail to multiple persons

(didn't talk about google docs, dropbox, mumble, skype, phone, carrier

[Bug 845434] [NEW] ipv6 support in vmbuilder

2011-09-09 Thread Simon Josefsson
Public bug reported:

I'm using vmbuilder and specifying hard coded fixed IP addresses with
--ip, --mask, --gw and --dns which is working fine for IPv4.

However I also want to provide IPv6 address to the virtual machine.
Adding a 'inet6' stanza to /etc/network/interfaces works, but requires
me to modify that file on the system. If vmbuilder supports setting
IPv4 addresses, I think it should support setting IPv6 address too.

Therefor, please add parameters like --ip6, --mask6, --gw6 to vmbuilder.

Thanks,
Simon

[Bug 576376] Re: Allow specifying more than one nameserver

2011-09-09 Thread Simon Josefsson
I'm using --dns 217.75.96.11,217.75.96.12 which does the right thing for
/etc/resolv.conf but the generated /etc/network/interfaces looks like
this:

dns-nameservers 217.75.96.11,217.75.96.12

I think they should be SPC-separated?

Still, I think multiple --dns parameters is more clear than trying to
use comma-separated values.

[Bug 568687] Re: Built vm image file retains random temp filename

2011-09-09 Thread Simon Josefsson
One alternative solution to just naming the image after the hostname
would be to introduce a new parameter --image (or something) which would
take the filename of the image to generate. For example, --image
/var/lib/libvirt/images/webserver.qcow2. I always found it confusing to
have one directory per image, which can only contain one file per
directory. I'd much rather have all images in one directory.

[Bug 845536] [NEW] rabbitmq user showed as being logged in

2011-09-09 Thread Jonathan Lange
Public bug reported:

If you have rabbitmq-server installed, and you run 'ck-list-sessions' on
a vt, you'll get something like this:

Session3:
 unix-user = '129'
 realname = 'RabbitMQ messaging server'
 seat = 'Seat1'
 session-type = ''
 active = FALSE
 x11-display = ''
 x11-display-device = ''
 display-device = '/dev/???'
 remote-host-name = ''
 is-local = TRUE
 on-since = '2011-09-07T15:36:19.140717Z'
 login-session-id = '4294967295'
Session11:
 unix-user = '134'
 realname = 'Light Display Manager'
 seat = 'Seat1'
 session-type = 'LoginWindow'
 active = FALSE
 x11-display = ':0'
 x11-display-device = '/dev/tty7'
 display-device = ''
 remote-host-name = ''
 is-local = TRUE
 on-since = '2011-09-07T16:42:07.207961Z'
 login-session-id = '4294967295'
Session12:
 unix-user = '1000'
 realname = 'Jonathan Lange'
 seat = 'Seat1'
 session-type = ''
 active = TRUE
 x11-display = ''
 x11-display-device = ''
 display-device = '/dev/tty1'
 remote-host-name = ''
 is-local = TRUE
 on-since = '2011-09-07T16:42:28.379523Z'
 login-session-id = '4294967295'

It shows rabbitmq as logged in and using a console. This has knock-on
effects, causing Restart buttons in desktop UIs to not actually
restart (see bug 838792).

Related to, or possibly the same bug as bug 820239.

[Bug 845541] [NEW] Remove libcommons-fileupload-java-universe from the Oneiric archive

2011-09-09 Thread James Page
Public bug reported:

As Eucalyptus has been demoted from main-universe, the requirement to
maintain libcommons-fileupload-java-universe has disappeared as all
packages can now use the straight libcommons-fileupload-java package
(which we can re-sync from Debian to pickup the missing features).

The following syncs/updates will be required to make this happen:

libcommons-fileupload-java-universe - drop
libcommons-fileupload-java - Resync from Debian - needs FFE as minor version
upgrade
libstruts1.2-java - Ubuntu change to revert to using non -universe version
of above
solr - Ubuntu change to revert to using non -universe version of above
libspring-java - Resync from Debian - needs FFE as minor version upgrade
libspring-2.5-java - Resync from Debian (packaging changes only).

FFE exception details for libcommons-fileupload-java

Rationale: Restore full features to allow removal of
libcommons-fileupload-java-universe from the archive
Upstream changelog:
http://commons.apache.org/fileupload/changes-report.html#a1.2.2 - Bug fixes only
Build log:
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/79418422/buildlog_ubuntu-oneiric-i386.libcommons-fileupload-java_1.2.2-1~oneiric1~ppa1_BUILDING.txt.gz
Install log:
Testing:
  Rebuild of all reverse-build-dependencies of
libcommons-fileupload-java-universe with this updated package OK.

Debian changelog for sync:

libcommons-fileupload-java (1.2.2-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release.
  * New libcommons-fileupload-java-doc package for Javadoc.
  * Bump Standards-Version to 3.9.1:
- Add recommended get-orig-source target in d/rules.
  * d/dirs: Remove, uneeded.
  * Switch to maven-debian-helper for build:
- Drop all patches on old Ant build.
- Add maven-debian-helper to B-D.
- Drop ant from B-D.
  * Don't Depends on a JRE (not requested anymore by Java Policy for
libraries packages).

2011-09-09 Thread rick beldin
Workarounds from:

http://lists.mindrot.org/pipermail/openssh-unix-dev/2011-May.txt

work for me to a variety of HP ILO devices from Natty:

In .ssh/config:

Host ilo1 ilo2 omfgilo ...
KexAlgorithms diffie-hellman-group1-sha1
HostkeyAlgorithms ssh-rsa

OR

ssh -oHostKeyAlgorithms=ssh-rsa ilo

Where ilo is the hostname of the ilo device.

[Bug 845871] Re: qemu-common cannot be installed because of unsatisfied dependency

2011-09-09 Thread Serge Hallyn
Hi,

can you please paste your /etc/apt/sources.list and any files under
/etc/apt/sources.list.d?

It sounds like you may have backports enabled, not just lucid-updates.
If you had lucid-updates, the newest seabios version would actually be
0.5.1-0ubuntu2, and qemu-common would not have a versioned depend on
seabios.

[Bug 845871] Re: qemu-common cannot be installed because of unsatisfied dependency

2011-09-09 Thread Christian Hudon
Ugh. You can close this. I had a PPA for KVM for hardy (which was
converted to lucid on upgrade) that I thought I had disabled in the
sources.list file for this computer, but the change I did on my master
sources.list file didn't get propagated correctly, due to an operator
error.

Thanks for the help, and my apologies for taking up some of your time
with this.

[Bug 824947] Re: EC2 apt repository DNS resolution on VPC instances

Note that I just launched the latest 10.04 64-bit instance-store AMI and
this issue is still around. ami-fbbf7892

Will this fix be backported to the LTS release? As we move our
infrastructure into VPC, this is becoming very important.

[Bug 846057] Re: cloud-init on oneiric does not honor ubuntu-pass=*

2011-09-09 Thread Scott Moser
I'm guessing you saw 'ubuntu-pass' in tools/uncloud-init.

That is mostly obsolete, if you want to use it you need to boot with:
  init=/usr/lib/cloud-init/uncloud-init ubuntu-pass=ubuntu

I'd suggest it would be better to use nocloud-net and pass a seed url.
then you can use all of cloud-config configuration (which includes the
ability to set a password and allow login via that password).
