[Bug 22400] Re: Wallet manager losing wallets

2006-06-13 Thread Alan Jenkins
w.r.t. the silent failure - this seemed noteworthy since in my
experience KDE is quite happy to pop up dialog boxes to tell you that
there was an error communicating with klauncher, or artsd failed to open
a sound device, or a protocol (e.g. http) handler process has died
unexpectedly.

[Bug 6627] Re: lexmark z53 blank pages

Add the HP Deskjet 722c to the list of printers not printing. Seems to
me that the printers are not being found by the compter. Before, z52
gave up blank paper. Now nothing happens. I installed gutenprint

[Bug 49544] Re: Resolution of splash during boot process very low

2006-06-13 Thread Gert Kulyk
I don't think that this is a bug since it is a behavoir which ensures
that a lot more computers are able to suspend/resume. E.g. because
usplash works with vga16fb, after suspend my laptop reenables display.
When using another FB, it is not. High-res FB is only necessary, if you
are planning to work on console. Sure, SuSE and other distributions are
using better graphics for boot-up, but why should Ubuntu, if it breaks
a lot of setups.

Hi, and thanks for taking the time to file this problem. Is this on 6.06, on an

backtrace by following the instructions on

It will rebuild the entire gdm package, so you'd be better of reinstalling it

[Bug 44874] Re: auto smbfs mount in /etc/fstab causes hald hang at boot

2006-06-13 Thread mistr
If worked here - at least for now (I restarted the system a few times
without problems).

In my opinion, this work-around also points to a timing issue between
starting the ethernet network, starting the samba system and mouting the
network shares.

Most of most of the above mentioned suggestions influence the point in
time when a specific service is started:

putting smbfs in /etc/modules: early in the boot process

mounting shares in /etc/rc.local: late in the boot process

pre-up sleep 5 in /etc/network/interfaces: give something else more time
to finish

This would also be consistent with my observation that the /etc/modules
variant sometimes work and sometimes it doesn't.

My guess: This problem is a hick-up in the multi-threaed booting process
introduced sometime during the latest Dapper pre-releases.

I confirm this problem with this card. Error occurs when booting from
Live CD (I didn't try to install). Knoppix (4.0.1/2 don't remember last
number) does work just fine on the same system, with as only boot
command desktop=icewm to speed things up. The card uses the AGP slot and
there is a Voodoo 2 graphic acceleration card connected to it. The last
one however never hindered neither Knoppix nor Mandrake/Mandriva (9.2 to

I know the IP address resolution is completely wrong. I have tried
pinging google and other sites via the command line which works
correctly. I don't seem to be able to browse this URL or infact,
anything other URLs in the repository. Other URLs seem to be
browsable apart from these. Might this be related to proxy settings,
because I have seen other instances in forums where people have had
trouble.

I'll borrow a Windows laptop, see if it reproduces the issue regarding
browsing these URLs there and check any proxy settings which are
given. Then I'll report back to you with as much information as I

[Bug 49568] Thunderbird KDE-integration

2006-06-13 Thread hk-47
Public bug reported:

By default, Thunderbird doesn't use KDE-dialogs when running under
Kubuntu, which can be changed by editing /usr/lib/mozilla-
thunderbird/components/nsFilePicker.js like described for Firefox in
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=110353 . This is quite some
pain, since it has to be done every time Thunderbird gets updated.

The preferable solution would be to supply a Thunderbird-KDE-
integration-package, or at least putting nsFilePicker.js under
/etc/[mozilla-]thunderbird/, so that user-made changes won't get wasted
after each update.

Btw, in Thunderbird 1.0.x one could dpkg-reconfigure mozilla-
thunderbird to manually update the Thunderbird Chrome Registry to
enable changes made in nsFilePicker.js, which unfortunately doesn't work
for Thunderbird 1.5.x anymore :-(

Hi I have the same problem.

And I had the same problem with Breezy and the 6.06Beta (ubuntu had

I was at an install party ubuntu on saturday in Paris with a lot of geeks. I am
now able to say a bit more:
- First the desktop-ubuntu works perfectly (even bluetooth) under imac G5 rev c.
- BUT it does not work with iMac G5 1.8 GHz/17 M9843. I tried the desktop and
the alternate cd (both in normal install and powerpc64 specific install).
Evreytime the same problem: while loading the modules the color of the
kubuntu's sign is ugly (not the blue one wich appears usually). Then arrive
time to login. The system freezes while initializing peripheals. I also tried
without starting X but after a couple of seconds (perhaps 20) the system

[Bug 49452] Re: [Bug 49452] Re: Dapper - nautilus freezes when opening a remote folder

2006-06-13 Thread chombee
This is really weird, my 'Network Servers' bookmark to my SSH remote
account is now working fine with nautilus. Just 5 mins. ago the same
folder was causing nautilus to freeze as it had been since I upgraded to
dapper. There are two things that I did that I imagine could possibly be
related between when it was freezing and when it started working:

* Successfully accessed a remote account over FTP with nautilus
* Removed all my nautilus bookmarks to remote folders. I had 3 bookmarks
to remote SSH folders in nautilus 'Places' instead of in 'Network
Servers'.

It is now working fine also if I launch nautilus on the command line and
pass it a remote SSH folder.

I tried bookmarking the SSH folder in nautilus places again, then logged
in and logged out, but this has not reproduced the freeze. It works
fine.

I also tried unmounting the SSH volume, then accessing it again by the
Places bookmark, and it still works fine.

Weird.

I was surprised to see this unmount option, does nautilus keep
connections to all my remote folders whenever I have the remote folder
icon on the desktop, even though the icon remains when I log out and log
in?

This is one of the very few packages of the whole distribution which

/usr/games dir which is nearly empty, and it sits there in the /usr

[Bug 13554] Re: does not poll ZIP drive for media changes

2006-06-13 Thread Martin Pitt
So, to summarize:

 * hal knows nothing about the ZIP drive.
 * The system does not know about the ZIP drive after a clean boot.
 * The kernel recognizes the drive properly and you can manually mount it after
'modprobe ppa'

Is that correct? If so, does hal see the ZIP drive after

  sudo /etc/dbus-1/event.d/20hal restart

? If so, then the problem is somewhere in the hal/udev communication.

Also, can you please do a clean boot, then do

  sudo udevmonitor -e

then do 'sudo modprobe ppa' on another console, and copypaste the
udevmonitor output here? (Assuming that there is no /dev/* device for
your ZIP drive before loading ppa).

Thank you!

[Bug 44931] Re: CUPS tries to auto-generate SSL key, fails

Merely creating the directory with

  sudo mkdir /etc/cups/ssl

was enough for me to get it running. Creating the certificate and key

However, to integrate our snakeoil SSL certificate support, we need to
do the following (as root):

  mkdir /etc/cups/ssl
  ln -s /etc/ssl/certs/ssl-cert-snakeoil.pem /etc/cups/ssl/server.crt
  ln -s /etc/ssl/private/ssl-cert-snakeoil.key /etc/cups/ssl/server.key

[Bug 49572] Re: dependancy installs apache even when appache2 is already installed

2006-06-13 Thread TrioTorus
This is not really a bug. Apt is just not smart enough to install the
dependancy with less missed dependencies.

# apt-cache show phpldapadmin | grep DependsDepends: apache | httpd,
php4-ldap | php5-ldap, php4 (= 4.1.0) | php4-cgi (= 4.1.0) |
libapache2-mod-php4 | php5 | php5-cgi | libapache2-mod-php5, debconf (=
0.5) | debconf-2.0

So, if none of php4-ldap or php5-ldap is installed, apt goes for
php4-ldap since it's first in the list. I haven't figured out why this
comes down to pulling in apache-common then, but on chatting with the
package maintainer he agreed to change the order and offer php5 first.
He might need to double check with phpldap admin users for issues with
php5 as opposed to php4.

[Bug 49499] Re: Xubuntu installer hangs when starting to install.

2006-06-13 Thread Rikard Nordgren
The message on the xubuntu download page
(http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/xubuntu/releases/dapper/release/) says that
only 128 MB is needed for the desktop install. As xubuntu should be
lightweight it should not require 192 MB to install (and in my opinion
not even 128 MB).

[Bug 49601] dovecot security update (5.1) breaks mysql

2006-06-13 Thread Trent Lloyd
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: dovecot

I am running two servers, one with 1.0.beta3-3ubuntu5 (which works) and
a new one I was just setting up today with 1.0.beta3-3ubuntu5.1 that
doesn't work.

Below is my configuration (dumbed down, i usually have far more complex queries
but these break it just the same):
user_query = SELECT '/srv/mail/t/thiat.net/l' as userdb_home 2000 as
userdb_uid, 2000 as userdb_gid FROM svc_mail;
password_query = SELECT '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' as user, 'something' as password,
'/srv/mail/t/thiat.net/l'

It's also worth noting a combined userdb/passdb query has the same effect:
password_query = SELECT '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' as user, 'something' as password,
'/srv/mail/t/thiat.net/l' as userdb_home 2000 as userdb_uid, 2000 as userdb_gid
FROM svc_mail;

And the following on dovecot.conf:

  passdb sql {
# Path for SQL configuration file, see /etc/dovecot/dovecot-sql.conf for
# example
args = /etc/dovecot/dovecot-sql.conf
  }

When testing with a non-combined passdb, this was duplicated for userdb

I've done a fair bit of stracing and what not, I can't really figure out whats
causing it other than in the logs you get this, it shows it connecting then
dying:
Jun 13 23:40:49 gaz dovecot: auth(default): client in:
AUTH^I1^IPLAIN^Iservice=POP3^Isecured^Ilip=127.0.0.1^Irip=127.0.0.1^Iresp=hidden
Jun 13 23:40:49 gaz dovecot: child 18673 (auth-worker) killed with signal 11
Jun 13 23:40:51 gaz dovecot: auth(default): client out: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Jun 13 23:40:53 gaz dovecot: pop3-login: Disconnected: user=[EMAIL
PROTECTED], method=PLAIN, rip=127.0.0.1, lip=127.0.0.1, secured

mysql logs show this:

060613 23:33:08 171 Connect [EMAIL PROTECTED] on
conventia_development

(and thats all, everytime, nothing else)

If I downgrade the 5.1 machien to 5.0, it instantly works, just as the
other 5.0 machine does, upgrade, breaks again,.

[Bug 25896] Re: After hibernate, sound doesn't work

2006-06-13 Thread Christian Convey
Here's my experience: I suspend and the resume, and a video playing in
Kaffeine has no sound. I then did something (I forget what) that caused
a Gnome system event sound to fire, and I heard both the system beep and
the video's sound.

My suspicion is that the Gnome system event caused some sound daemon to
restart, or something like that.

My system: Dapper, up to date with patches as of the evening of 12 June
2006. HP Pavilion dv4150 (a variant of the dv4000). Sound card is
Intel ICH6; chip is Analog Devices AD1981B. Kaffeine appears to be
using xine for its engine. xine's audio driver is set to auto.

[Bug 49603] passwd ignores the pam auth section

2006-06-13 Thread Alex Mauer
Public bug reported:

when I run 'passwd' with the following config in /etc/pam.d/passwd:

authrequiredpam_unix.so
account required pam_unix.so
password required pam_permit.so
session required pam_unix.so

...it does not prompt for a password, despite the auth line

I don't expect this config to actually change any passwords of course
(pam_permit), but it should use the auth module to prompt for the old
password rather than simply activating the password module and relying
on it to request the old password.

[Bug 48108] Re: PC sleeps makes breaks mouse input and hotkeys

2006-06-13 Thread perriman
this is the
bug:

-I start a session
-Open a Terminal Server and connect to my server
-Work with it and all works fine.
-After a long time, we go to my coffe for 15 min. My terminal server is
in the task bar.
-i come back and all is OK.
-I continue with my terminal server
-I go to drink another coffe for 15 min. My terminal server is open and
visible in my desktop.
-I come back and gnome don't response to me. I click all keys and
nothing happends, y move the mouse and the pointer moves(sorry for my
english) but y click in all the monitor and nothing happends.
- Ctrl+alt+f1 works fine
- crtl+alt+f7 and all is equal.
- Finally ctrl+alt+backpace for reboot x server and login again. All
works again.

I have screensaver active (5 min.). I think that if i have the terminal
server open and run screensaver, Gnome (or something) fails.

I hope to be usefull.

Hi Ben,

one quick request, since you have not released the new kernel, is it possible

Generally speaking I think that we'll need to track the upstream on sky2 driver

work in progress...

Many thanks for your great work.

I've checked the screen resolution of the tty and in an xterm with fbset
and both are equal. hwinfo --framebuffer doesn't print anything.

I am puzzled! Something is really wrong, but I remain clueless.

Returning to Xorg is very fast (a second or less). Since putting the
computer to sleep goes to a tty, I'd say it's the same phenomenum:
getting Xorg release the control of the screen in favor of a tty or
macosx.
