I don't think that this is a bug since it is a behavoir which ensures that a lot more computers are able to suspend/resume. [Bug 44874] Re: auto smbfs mount in /etc/fstab causes hald hang at boot
If worked here - at least for now (I restarted the system a few times without problems). In my opinion, this work-around also points to a timing issue between starting the ethernet network, starting the samba system and mouting the network shares. Most of most of the above mentioned suggestions influence the point in time when a specific service is started: putting smbfs in /etc/modules: early in the boot process mounting shares in /etc/rc.local: late in the boot process pre-up sleep 5 in /etc/network/interfaces: give something else more time to finish This would also be consistent with my observation that the /etc/modules variant sometimes work and sometimes it doesn't. [Bug 49568] Thunderbird KDE-integration
Public bug reported: By default, Thunderbird doesn't use KDE-dialogs when running under Kubuntu, which can be changed by editing /usr/lib/mozilla- thunderbird/components/nsFilePicker.js like described for Firefox in http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=110353 . This is quite some pain, since it has to be done every time Thunderbird gets updated. The preferable solution would be to supply a Thunderbird-KDE- integration-package, or at least putting nsFilePicker.js under /etc/[mozilla-]thunderbird/, so that user-made changes won't get wasted after each update. Btw, in Thunderbird 1.0.x one could dpkg-reconfigure mozilla- thunderbird to manually update the Thunderbird Chrome Registry to enable changes made in nsFilePicker.js, which unfortunately doesn't work for Thunderbird 1.5.x anymore :-( See also https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/43238 as this applies to Firefox as well. ** Affects: mozilla-thunderbird (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- Thunderbird KDE-integration https://launchpad.net/bugs/49568 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

This is really weird, my 'Network Servers' bookmark to my SSH remote account is now working fine with nautilus. Just 5 mins. ago the same folder was causing nautilus to freeze as it had been since I upgraded to dapper. There are two things that I did that I imagine could possibly be related between when it was freezing and when it started working: * Successfully accessed a remote account over FTP with nautilus * Removed all my nautilus bookmarks to remote folders. I had 3 bookmarks to remote SSH folders in nautilus 'Places' instead of in 'Network Servers'. It is now working fine also if I launch nautilus on the command line and pass it a remote SSH folder. I tried bookmarking the SSH folder in nautilus places again, then logged in and logged out, but this has not reproduced the freeze. It works fine. I also tried unmounting the SSH volume, then accessing it again by the Places bookmark, and it still works fine. Weird. I was surprised to see this unmount option, does nautilus keep connections to all my remote folders whenever I have the remote folder icon on the desktop, even though the icon remains when I log out and log in? [Bug 13554] Re: does not poll ZIP drive for media changes
So, to summarize: * hal knows nothing about the ZIP drive. * The system does not know about the ZIP drive after a clean boot. * The kernel recognizes the drive properly and you can manually mount it after 'modprobe ppa' Is that correct? If so, does hal see the ZIP drive after sudo /etc/dbus-1/event.d/20hal restart ? If so, then the problem is somewhere in the hal/udev communication. Also, can you please do a clean boot, then do sudo udevmonitor -e then do 'sudo modprobe ppa' on another console, and copypaste the udevmonitor output here? [Bug 49572] Re: dependancy installs apache even when appache2 is already installed
This is not really a bug. Apt is just not smart enough to install the dependancy with less missed dependencies. # apt-cache show phpldapadmin | grep DependsDepends: apache | httpd, php4-ldap | php5-ldap, php4 (= 4.1.0) | php4-cgi (= 4.1.0) | libapache2-mod-php4 | php5 | php5-cgi | libapache2-mod-php5, debconf (= 0.5) | debconf-2.0 So, if none of php4-ldap or php5-ldap is installed, apt goes for php4-ldap since it's first in the list. I haven't figured out why this comes down to pulling in apache-common then, but on chatting with the package maintainer he agreed to change the order and offer php5 first. [Bug 38865] Re: sky2 driver freezing system after ifdown and ifup
Hi Ben, one quick request, since you have not released the new kernel, is it possible to move to sky2 driver included in 2.6.17-rc6-git5? I saw Linus just committed another important bug fix. Generally speaking I think that we'll need to track the upstream on sky2 driver as close as possible... I have the impression that sky2 driver is still a bit work in progress... [Bug 46541] Re: very, very slow switching away from the X server
I've checked the screen resolution of the tty and in an xterm with fbset and both are equal. hwinfo --framebuffer doesn't print anything. I am puzzled! Something is really wrong, but I remain clueless. Returning to Xorg is very fast (a second or less). Since putting the computer to sleep goes to a tty, I'd say it's the same phenomenum: getting Xorg release the control of the screen in favor of a tty or macosx. -- very, very slow switching away from the X server https://launchpad.net/bugs/46541 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
