[Bug 32169] Re: [Bug 32169] Re: Update to .20
Well I looked more into this. For the database thing, mythtv-database will generate a password and store it in /etc/mythtv/mysql.txt. Modify your local ~/.mythtv/mysql.txt to match this. On 9/13/06, Scott Ferguson [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Using Mario's 0.20 packages here, the overall upgrade went smoothly except for two issues: One, upgrading mythtv-database still won't go because it's trying to connect to the wrong mysql server (it provides the IP of an old server I'm no longer connecting to). I've edited /etc/mysql/my.cnf and /etc/mythtv/mysql.txt. Anything I'm missing here? Second problem is much more substantial; the video playback is extremely zoomed in and I can't seem to get it zoomed out. It's tough to get my bearings looking at the image, but it seems like it zooms into the top right corner of the screen when watching a recording or livetv. I haven't tweaked any settings since 0.19, so what could be the issue here? Changing the over/underscan only seems to help resize teh image, not zoom it in or out. On the bright side though, the thumbnail of recordings does show the correct dimensions so the video is being grabbed correctly, just displaying wrong in fullscreen. -- Update to .20 https://launchpad.net/bugs/32169 -- Mario Limonciello [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- Update to .20 https://launchpad.net/bugs/32169 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 28647] Re: sbp2 hot plug causes hard crashes
Here I get the hard crashes when the firewire drive offlines. I have a Hitachi 250GB HD inside a enclosure, and it works mostly well when connected by USB. I've seen the drive going offiline (when using usb) when it gets hot, which happened a lot lately with air temperature above 38 every day; I assume that this is the problem when connecting the enclosure using firewire, that it hangs the system solid when there is a unexpected disconnect. No problems at all if I umount then disconnect. My system is a MSI K8T NEO 2 motherboard and a AMD64 3200+ CPU. The onboard firewire adapter is a VIA controller (the chipset is the K8T800). I'm right now using kernel 2.6.15-26-amd64-k8, I'm thinking on upgrading to edgy in a month or so too. -- sbp2 hot plug causes hard crashes https://launchpad.net/bugs/28647 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Fantastic! Following the information above I did a search for amd76x_edac and found Debian bug #363682. [Bug 59993] Re: Leaving report closed crashed apport-gtk.
The way to disable apport is 'sudo /etc/init.d/apport stop' (for the current session) or to uninstall the apport package (permanently). However, I'm a bit concerned that it takes so long -- creating the 150 MB coredump of a running Firefox takes about 4 seconds here. And as long as you are developing your own software, apport should notice and not create a report any more (this should now also work for interpreted scripts since version 0.20). Which kind of program do you develop, where is the executable, and does apport create a report for it? Also, I will add some safeguards so that the exception mentioned in the apport log does not happen. I would just have liked to understand the actual cause, but if it's difficult to reproduce, then a lower-level fix seems adequate, too. I was not able to provoke this situation. -- Leaving report closed crashed apport-gtk. https://launchpad.net/bugs/59993 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 60183] oops while running usplash
Public bug reported: I've been doing a fair amount of work on usplash lately (on a fully up- to-date edgy powerpc system, so 2.6.17-7.20), and I keep running into kernel oopses triggered by usplash. Originally I got this while simply doing 'usplash -c -x 640 -y 480', but I suppose that will go away once my fix to usplash is uploaded that makes it refuse to start when there's no theme available that fits within the specified resolution. Now it seems to happen practically every time I run usplash with my extra debugging printfs in it, which obviously makes it quite difficult to get anything done. [Bug 60022] Re: [edgy] Number of workspaces / desktops reduced to 2
Your comments are confusing. First the way gconf works, the schemas apply if you have no user setting, it only sets a default value to use if there is no custom value yet. On your box with 8 desktops their is no reason the number of workspaces should change, the user settings are respected. The only upgrade case issue is if you never played with the number of workspaces and then don't have an user key for it. About the naming, those are to gconf key too so your custom names should not be dropped and you should get your custom names again if you set the number of workspaces to 4 by example The linux version has nothing to do with the desktop and gconf, the comments about using an older version are not revelant to that bug -- [edgy] Number of workspaces / desktops reduced to 2 https://launchpad.net/bugs/60022 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 60186] The burner cannot burn CD's and does not show speeds under 16x
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus-cd-burner Steps to reproduce on my system: 1. Install a 4x-12x CD RW disc into the CD RW drive. 2. Launch the GNOME CD/DVD burner (for burning a data CD). 3. Copy some data into the burner. 4. Start writing the CD by clicking the write button in the burner. Select the maximum supported speed in the dialog. Expected results: The burner shall burn the CD without errors. Actual results: Bugs: 1. The dialog that is shown after pressing the write button does not show speeds under 16x. 2. The buttons in the dialog for writing are initially coloured dark brown. When I move mouse over the buttons they get coloured normally. 3. Writing the CD stops with an error dialog saying error while writing (may be different words in the English version) when the progress bar is full. 4. The CD is empty after the attempted writing. [Bug 60189] 2.8.0 is much slower when filtering mail
Public bug reported: I have quite a few filters that move mail from INBOX to various folders. I'm used to evo taking a minute filtering 100 new mails, but since 2.8.0 it takes at least twice the time or possibly more. Even filtering 10-15 mails takes a while. [Bug 60188] check does not work on ppc/alternate 20060912.1
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: cdrom-checker 'check' complains about The ./dists/edgy/main/binary-powerpc/Release file failed the MD5 checksum verification. [Bug 60188] Re: check does not work on ppc/alternate 20060912.1
I'm afraid there isn't terribly much to learn from /var/log/syslog. The screenshot shows the last couple of lines (before there are only kernel boot messages). It's the only non-empty file in /var/log, and /var/log/installer does not exist. ** Attachment added: screenshot http://librarian.launchpad.net/4246393/powerpc-cdrom-checker-syslog.jpg -- check does not work on ppc/alternate 20060912.1 https://launchpad.net/bugs/60188 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 34902] Re: Ralink Wireless USB/PCMCIA/PCI hangs PC
Here is some additional information: Playing around in a text console, it appears that the freeze is caused by a kernel panic that occurs when we hit a BUG in a bh context at kernel/timer.c, line 411 (in cascade, an inline function that appears in __run_timers, which itself is an inline function that appears in run_timer_softirq, which is run in a bh context). Here's the trace I was working from. The code indicates that it's line 411 of some file: Code: ... 0f 0b 9b 01 ee 03 30 c0 ... It panics, so I couldn't conclusively trace which file from the panic, but I think it's clearly kernel/timer.c, given the stack trace. [c01259a2] run_timer_softirq+0x132/0x1d0 [c01214ff] __do_softirq+0x4f/0xb0 [c0121595] do_softirq+0x35/0x40 [c0121645] irq_exit+0x35/0x40 [c01059cf] do_IRQ+0x1f/0x30 [c010410a] common_interrupt+0x1a/0x20 I'm doing some testing now, as to how to fix this. Since this is a double-fault, I'm curious if we can't just disable BUG()'s in the kernel (by recompiling). I don't know if the system will recover or not - it realizes something's wrong, but we panic since it reports the BUG in BH context, not necessarily because the problem is un-recoverable. I just did a build with big-kernel-lock pre-emption (CONFIG_PREEMPT_BKL) turned off, and I didn't see any touble. So this may be a pre-emption issue. The kernel that had the problem and the one that didn't is a pretty big configuration delta, so I'm still trying to figure out what fixed it.
