[Bug 66434] emacs opens specified file behind *scratch*

2006-10-16 Thread Stefan van der Walt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: emacs

When starting emacs with

emacs -q foo.txt

the splash is displayed, after which *scratch* gets focused. This is
different from previous behaviour where foo.txt gets the focus.

This does not happen if the splash is not displayed, i.e. with

emacs -Q foo.txt

Re: [Bug 56587] Re: [edgy] usplash segfaults

2006-10-16 Thread John Dong
Actually, it's because usplash is spinning and using 100% CPU... it's really
apparent that even things like disk access is sluggish during boot (disk not
grinding nearly as fast).

I agree with everyone suggesting a fallback that I'd rather NOT see a
usplash than end up with a slow-as-molasses bootup.

On 10/12/06, Martin Pitt [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

A graceful fallback would be appreciated, even if it is to not activate
the 'splash' option at install on this platform.

Booting with 'splash' takes 5 minutes here, when I remove 'splash' it
takes 56 seconds. I suspect that the usplash client functions have some
sort of a timeout which causes this delay.

I think this particular bug can be closed. We're just stuck with using

supplied in Dapper by an appropriate linux-restricted-modules-* package,

2006-10-16 Thread Luka Renko
Confirming bug as it is reported by several users. Marking Importance as
High as this seems to be regression from Dapper for several users with
different ATI cards.

It looks like that Xorg's power managements kicks in. Can you try
disabling Xorg's PM by adding the following to you /etc/X11/xorg.conf:

Section ServerFlags
   Option NoPM
EndSection

Note: if you already have ServerFlags section, just add Option NoPM
there.

This may workaround the problem for you.

[Bug 66416] Re: [Edgy Beta] rt61pci does not work at all

2006-10-16 Thread Jochen Becher
After getting the network connection running once more (via RaLink
driver rt61 configured using the /etc/Wireless/RT61STA/rt61sta.dat file
using WPAPSK) I upgraded the system from the net.

The provided rt61pci driver is still not working. I triedd again the
RaLink driver and it seems to work a little bit better than before - I
got a WPA network connection with the first try.

I then enabled the auto ra0 line in /etc/network/interfaces and
rebooted my machine. This doens't work; same problem as with Dapper
(sometimes boot fails, sometimes the network connection is not working).

At least it could be a suggestion to provide all different kernel
modules (rt61.ko from RaLing and serialmonkey.com and rt61pci from
serialmokey.com) on the installation CDs which allows a advanced user to
select the solution that best fits his machine.

[Bug 66210] Re: Integrated audio occasionally gets index 0

2006-10-16 Thread Juho Lehto
** Summary changed:

- Integrated SoundMAX AD1980 occasionally gets index 0
+ Integrated audio occasionally gets index 0

** Description changed:

I have Asus K8V Deluxe motherboard with integrated SoundMAX AD1980
soundcard, I have disabled it from BIOS and instead use Audigy 2 ZS. I
downloaded Kubuntu 6.10 Beta a while back and I have a problem with it.

Kubuntu 6.10 seems to recognize the integrated AD1980 chip as VIA 8237,
but the real problem is that often the VIA 8237 is primary sound card
and I cannot get any sound out of my Audigy. I haven't found any other
solution to this problem but reboot until Audigy is again the default
sound card. It seems like it is totally random which audio device is the
primary sound card on boot. Whether the integrated audio is disabled or
enabled in BIOS does not affect this problem.

My Kubuntu 6.10 installation is a clean install, not an upgrade from
6.06. Just now I had to reboot three times to get my Audigy working,
it's a bit annoying all right. :) I can say that this bug did not exist
in Ubuntu 6.06, but unfortunately I haven't tried Ubuntu 6.10 or Kubuntu
6.06. I guess I can try both of them if it is really necessary, but I'd
like to avoid that work if I just can. ;) Thanks.

[Bug 61188] Re: amarokcollectionscanner closed unexpectedly

2006-10-16 Thread Closer9
There was an ubuntu update to amarok yesterday so I tried to build my
collection again. amarokcollectionscanner did NOT crash at all, but it
still took forever to get to 100% and it still never finished. I let it
sit at 100% for about an hour and during that time it would:

sit idle for 5 minutes
use 100% of my memory (1GB) and 100% of my CPU
stay that way for another 5 minutes
my memory would then clear back to 90% free
go back to idle for 5 minutes
repeat until i cancel it

Because nothing crashes this bug is perhaps fixed, but there is clearly
something else going on. If I can provide information to help fix this
please let me know.

[Bug 66445] Re: d4x crashes and closes

2006-10-16 Thread Kevin Kubasik
I can reliably replicate, but can't seem to get a more robust
stacktrace. I would guess that the best bet is probably just to
recompile everything against the newest libs and see how things go.

[Bug 66449] Kopete has several problems with buddies in Edgy

2006-10-16 Thread Alberto Milone
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kopete

Kopete keeps telling me that the usernames of my buddies do not exist
(but they do). Moreover every 3-4 minutes Kopete shows that all my
buddies are offline and then they are showed as online again.

If I minimise Kopete's chat window in the taskbar I am set as offline.

NOTE: I'm using my IRC account (on freenode)

This problem affects Kubuntu Edgy and Kopete version:
4:3.5.5+kopete0.12.3-0ubuntu1

Here are some snapshots of the problem.

[Bug 66444] Re: Theme preferences dialog ignores gtk-button-images option in ~/.gtkrc-2.0

2006-10-16 Thread Carthik Sharma
bug is in theme preferences dialog. Changing package as needed.

** Summary changed:

- option in ~/.gtkrc-2.0 ignored
+ Theme preferences dialog ignores gtk-button-images option in ~/.gtkrc-2.0

** Description changed:

I have the following one line in my ~/.gtkrc-2.0 file:
  gtk-button-images=0

This is supposed to disable the icons for buttons in gtk apps. However,
this does not happen. I have tried restarting the computer and yet this
setting does not take effect. Notice the icons to the left of Install
Theme and Theme Details in the screenshot I will attach.

- Now the question is, why doesn't this option get enabled - even after a
- restart?
+ So the theme preferences dialog seems to ignore the option in gtkrc-2.0

[Bug 39913] Re: Mouse wheel doesn't prevent screen saver

2006-10-16 Thread Pupeno
I can't do any further testing because I am not running Kubuntu anymore,
but I can explain what happened as a series of steps:

1. Set the screensaver to start in a minute.
2. Do not touch keyboard or mouse for a minute
3. Screensaver activates.

That's good. But

1. Set the screensaver to start in a minute.
2. Move the mouse wheel but nothing else than the mouse wheel (the keyboard is
not touched at all and the mouse is never moved, the only activity is the mouse
wheel). For example, when reading a book or a long web site.
3. Screensaver activates.

That's not good. I don't think the screensaver should activate while
there's user activity, even if it is only the mouse wheel.

Is that more clear ?

Thank you.

[Bug 66448] Bad volume control config when Sound Blaster Live 24-bit is used

2006-10-16 Thread Hernán Alvarez
Public bug reported:

When you install Ubuntu Dapper or Edgy, the volume control on the GNOME
panel comes pre-configured to set the volume of center/LFE channel, only
used on 5.1 setups, when it should control the front L/R channel.

It's easy to resolve (going to volume control settings and modifying
it), but it should be correctly preconfigured, as is with other sound
cards.

I've tested it on Dapper 6.06, 6.06.1 and Edgy Beta.

[Bug 24251] Re: Loadkeys fails to recognise some keysyms

I thought that since it was fixed in debian 1:0.2.3dbs-58, it would not be

gr.kmap file given in http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=334691 .

[Bug 57875] Re: Azureus does not start

2006-10-16 Thread Gary Coady
I would expect the upstream version to work.

The core of the problem with the Ubuntu package is that one of the
branding patches (it tries make certain UI icons fit the current GTK+
theme) makes calls into GTK before the Java GTK libraries have been
fully initialized. It does not appear to be in use upstream.

An alternative to the above change to Initializer.java is to remove the
patch azureus-themed.patch from the Ubuntu package.

[Bug 30562] Re: Acer € and $ + special l aptop keys

Possible workaround for the Euro key:

Select: System - Preferences - Keyboard
  Select: 'Layout Options' tab
Select: 'Adding the EuroSign to certain keys'
 Select prefered key
   Select: 'Third level choosers'
 Select prefered chooser key
now you should be able to use your chosen chooser key + chosen euro key to

This dosen't address the keymap issue but should allow users to easily
