[Bug 175689] Re: Share Folder in right-click menu does not share ntfs drive folders
I went through the upgrade to hardy process a little over a week ago and I run into a serious problem which is very much related to this. I basically have two 500GB USB harddrives formatted as NTFS connect to my Ubuntu machine. On these drives I have over 20 different SMB shares each and the upgrade process automatically DELETED ALL MY SHARES WITH NO WARNING WHAT SO EVER AND WITH NO CHANCE OF RECOVERY. This caused a some serious downtime problems for me. On top of that, once I got hardy up and running I could not even fix these problems because hardy will, as the bug explains, not let you share files owned by root due to the usershare owner only = False flag being default in Ubuntu. Imagine all the people that are running small servers with NTFS partitions like I do. This is not a nice experience for them during upgrade. The bug that I filed about the broken upgrade process was closed as a duplicate of this bug (even though they are in fact slightly different). Please have a look at my original bug report here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/214714 Sharing folders on NTFS drives is an important use case and it worked perfectly in previous versions of Ubuntu (so this is a regression and people are very unforgiving about regressions). I'd very much give my vote to fixing this before (or soon after) the hardy release. -- Share Folder in right-click menu does not share ntfs drive folders https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/175689 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 219895] Re: Folder sharing does not provide an NFS option.
I think I should clarify something. When you initially go to share a folder a prompt comes up to install SAMBA. This is probably sufficient for most people, as most are operating in a *nix/Windows environment. In Gutsy you could choose SMB or NFS. In Hardy you are only given the SMB option. The omission of NFS may be intentional, but I think having the option in the GUI for NFS would be preferable. -- Folder sharing does not provide an NFS option. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/219895 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 219931] [NEW] Japanese font switching issue
Public bug reported: Actually, there are two separate issues, See attached screen shot. Firstly, as I'm entering Japanese text (into Nautilus, or Firefox, or wherever), when I type Japanese hiragana characters it seems to switch to one font, then when I type Japanese kanji characters, it seems to switch to another. From a brief inspection, it seems that all the installed fonts either contain no Japanese characters, or contain both hiragana and kanji characters. So, why is it switching between fonts like that? Secondly, the default font seems to vertically center the Japanese comma and period characters. What's up with that? I'm not a Japanese expert, but I think this is as abnormal in Japanese as centering a comma or period in English text would be. When combined, the above two issues are especially annoying. The comma character moves up and down in the same sentence, depending on what character was before it. Actually, as I type this, I realize why a font would have a vertically- centered comma and period like that -- this would be appropriate for vertical text. So perhaps the question is, why is a vertical font being selected or why does the font engine thing I'm typing vertically? For reference, here is the text from the attached screen shot... AAA、。あああ、。曲、。あ、。 (The comma and period are u3001 and 3002, the hiragana character is u3042, and the kanji is u66f2) Ubuntu 8.04 beta, no compiz, Japanese language installed and default font size set to 12, but otherwise everything is pretty-much as one would get from a fresh install. (The same issues are seen when font size is 10, the default). With the help of Mart Raudsepp from Gentoo, we have backported the libDDC patch to AMD 2.7.7.7 and called the result 2.7.7.8-0ubuntu1. This one gets correctly detected inside LTSP too. Test packages are in my PPA. Just install them in the chroot (making sure to purge -amd and -geode first), then exit and run ltsp-update- image to test this. Ok, we know that pommed works. addon-macbook-backlight in hal doesn't work. Thats strange, because pommed code and hal code are basically the same for adjusting the Macbook brightness. [Bug 135752] Re: Language support not enabled for the installation language
I checked this with hardy, no different: Installed with Internet connection not enabled. 1. After booting to the installed system, Internet connection enabled, Language Selector lists English as the only possible language in the upper part of the windows, and selected. However, Finnish (suomi) is selected as the default language in the bottom part of the window, but the program does not have a choice to actually download support for the default language. 2. After manually refreshing software sources in Update Manager (something that will be eventually done automatically too, in case Internet connection is enabled), the language list is complete but the tool does still not suggest enabling support for the language that is selected as the default. One must manually scroll the language list and select the language support for there. So, one issue is suggesting the downloading of language support for the default language, and another issue is how to handle the case where software sources have not yet been refreshed. I used 20080419 daily-live which has language-selector 0.3.4 that should have some new note about this issue, but I didn't notice any notice during installation or after booting into the new system (there might have been one during installation since I didn't pay attention, if it disappeared before the end's reboot suggestion dialog is showed). -- Language support not enabled for the installation language https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/135752 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 219942] [NEW] firefox-themes-ubuntu package should be renamed to avoid user confusion
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: firefox-themes-ubuntu Surely this is not an important issue, but in ubuntu 8.04 the package called firefox-themes-ubuntu should be renamend to something like firefox-2-themes-ubuntu. It is confusing for new unexperienced users and could lead to dependency problems. It would be more consistent, also like all other packages are seperated to something like firefox-2... and firefox-3.0... Example: An unexperienced user browses packages in Synaptic to find something interesting. firefox-themes-ubuntu sounds cool, so the user wants to install it; not paying attention that also firefox-2 from universe is going to be installed. Then he wonders, where the themes are or accidently starts surfing the web with firefox-2 instead of the standard firefox-3.0 Mhm this is really not a big deal, though it would be nice, if the package could be renamed, would be more user-friendly and less confusing. ** Affects: firefox-themes-ubuntu (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- firefox-themes-ubuntu package should be renamed to avoid user confusion https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/219942 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 219243] Re: Long delay when Loading Hardware Drivers
After some more research, I can confirm that this is a udev bug, or at least strongly related to udev... The script responsible for Loading hardware drivers is /etc/init.d/udev... And the lines it hangs on begins at line 61. The command udevadm trigger is what causes the long wait. --snip-- log_begin_msg Loading hardware drivers... /sbin/udevadm trigger if /sbin/udevadm settle; then log_end_msg 0 else log_end_msg $? fi --snip-- Changing those lines to: --snip-- log_begin_msg Loading hardware drivers... /sbin/udevadm trigger log_end_msg 0 #if /sbin/udevadm settle; then #log_end_msg 0 #else #log_end_msg $? #fi --snip-- Alleviates the problem and reduces boot time by approx. 90 seconds (60 seconds vs. 150 seconds) But, is backgrounding this and letting the other scripts run wise? Re: [Bug 218000] Re: XRandR Rotation with -intel doesn't work with compiz [x3100]
I'm not sure if this is exactly what you meant by a backtrace, but here we go. I was able to follow the instructions when logged in remotely, so yay! I did the following: Logged into a gnome session. However, nothing changes on my screen (except for that mouse) and I do not see any of my windows moving for example if I drag them around the screen. I do a ctrl-c in gdb, then running backtrace full This is the result: (the SIGINT is my ctrl-c I think) (gdb) cont Continuing. Program received signal SIGINT, Interrupt. [Bug 219950] [NEW] Font size on login screen is too big with nvidia-glx-new
Public bug reported: The following happens on a Dell D830 laptop with the nVidia Quadro 140: After installing Hardy Release candidate, the login screen fonts for entering the username and password looks fine. Then, I downloaded the nvidia-glx-new package to make use of accelerated 3D. After rebooting the machine, the font in the password box is extremely big. At first, this seemed to be a duplicate of some other bugs reported here, but changing the xorg.conf did not actually help the problem. After reverting to the nv drivers and reconfiguring X, everything was back to normal. Maybe it is worth mentioning the system 15 screen has a resolution of 1680x1050, so its probably related to the high DPI? Hardy had all updates applied as of the time of writing. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Font size on login screen is too big with nvidia-glx-new https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/219950 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
