[Bug 290171] [NEW] laptop freeze with ubuntu-8.10-rc-desktop-i386.iso
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 8.04 works fine on my laptop after some adjusting of the xorg.conf. System Packard Bell with 1024x768 display and VIA/S3G UniChrome IGP Upgrading to 8.10 failed several times and I waited for the CD release in the hope these problems would be solved (I had enough troubles getting my ATI card on the desktop working). The CD works on a nvidia computer, so no faulty CD. N.B. Previous ubuntu versions (6.10, 7.04 and 7.10) were problematic on my laptop also because of video problems and effectively useless. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- laptop freeze with ubuntu-8.10-rc-desktop-i386.iso https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/290171 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 290121] Re: Microphones are always muted (Ubuntu 8.10)
** Description changed: In Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex... Open Volume Control, the microphones (all inputs) are always muted. - Open Volume control - Select Recording tab - All inputs are muted - Unmute microphone/input - Close Volume control - Re-open, and microphone/inputs are still muted It seems to record anyway with some software like Sound Recorder but using Flash, there is no sound capture at all. This is happening on a Dell 1521 AMD64 (HDA-Intel card) and a Averatec 3200 32bits (VIA card). Note: The Averactec was upgraded to 8.10 several days ago... I managed to record audio in Flash 10 by removing Pulseaudio. The I upgraded my Dell laptop 2 days ago and no succes on this one. So to compare, I went back to my Averatec, validated the sound capture was working in Flash, reinstalled Pulseaudio and updated at the same time. Now I have no sound capture in Flash on the Averatec and the microphone cannot be unmuted like the Dell. I did remove Pulseaudio on both computer, rebooted, configure my default sound to pulseaudio/alsa, played with .asoundrc and .asound.conf... nothing worked. It seems that Flash is considering the muted flag and it is not impossible to broadcast thru Flash Player (blogTV, UStream). Since it was working on my Averatec before the major update, and it does not work after the update, whatever I do, it looks like something is broken in the alsa layer. I've looked in my logs, nothing is showing up beside this with Pulseaudio on my Dell... Oct 27 20:47:36 mult-pballeux pulseaudio[8297]: pid.c: Stale PID file, overwriting. The first click + unmute the microphone (actually does nothing and the icon show + unmuted) and the second click will actually mute the mic/input + (validated with the Monitor of pulseaudio). But the status is always + shown as muted when reloading the volume control... + + The Flash player not able to record sound could be a different issue. I + found out that instead of using the pulse plugin, it is using the + Alsa plugin to connect to the pulseaudio server. So Flash is always + trying to record using the Alsa libraries. With or without pulseaudio + (ie only with Alsa), Flash 10 (in i386 or AMD64) is not able to record + any sound. This state was validated on two different sound card/laptop + (via and hda-intel). + + Note: On the i386 (Averatec) I was able to have the Flash player output + sound directly to the pulseaudio server without using the ALSA plugin, + but the recording was still with the Alsa plugin and not working. I was + unable to do the same on the DELL (AMD64) + + I'll wait for status on this bug before reporting the Flash problem in + case that the two problems are related. ** Tags added: alsa flash microphone pulseaudio record -- Microphones are always muted (Ubuntu 8.10) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/290121 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Alex Stansfield [2008-10-28 6:25 -]: Is there going to be a more indepth warning to those using legacy chipsets about the problems involved with upgrading to Intrepid? Yes, update-manager will tell you about the problem if your card only works with the legacy drivers (which aren't working in intrepid). [Bug 290173] [NEW] kuser cannot perform tasks on multiple users together
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kdeadmin To reproduce: Launch kuser. Now create some users. For example, I created 4 users test1 to test 4. Now select all the 4 users by Ctrl+Clicking on each. Now press the Delete user button. The delete operation will be performed on only one of the users, which is test4 in my case. After test4 is removed, we are left with test1 to test3 users left back and selected. We can click on Delete again to remove test3 and so on. Adding an option like Replace default route upon connection (or preferably Use this connection to access Internet through while connected) to the network connection options and the configuration guide would solve this issue. Currently, the only way to gain internet access through a gsm connection in nm is to disconnect from wired and wireless networks and then connect... (There may be some way to accomplish this by modifying the ipv4 routes settings for the connection, but I wouldnt even dare guess how.) ** Changed in: network-manager (Ubuntu) Status: New = Confirmed -- If Ubuntu is connected to more than one network (e.g. GSM and wireless) but only GSM has internet access, OS is unable to access internet. [Bug 83587] Re: HP ScanJet 5300C doesn't work
Polo: For me, the following command: sudo echo -e libsane hold | dpkg --set-selections has succeeded in putting the libsane package in hold status, so update-notifier does not bother me any more asking me to upgrade it. I just have to be careful when I update other packages via update-manager that libsane, still appearing in the list, is not marked and so, it is not unintendedly upgraded. You can check whether libsane is or is not in hold status by the comand dpkg -l libsane The first letter in the last line of the reply should be an h if the package is in fact in hold status (an i if it is not). -- HP ScanJet 5300C doesn't work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/83587 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 290176] [NEW] Mozilla add0n will not install
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: firefox-3.0 I have tried every way from Sunday to get the Adobe flash player add-on to install in Firefox 3.0. I have tried letting the web page install it, completes fine with no errors but the add-on is not installed. I downloaded the file in the tar format, unpacked it and tried installing 'flasherplayer-installer' and that will not work. I tried installing the downloaded packages from inside firefox [with no errors] and it still won't install. It seems every site I go to asks for the damn player and I'm pulling my hair. [Bug 207723] Re: Evolution will not authenticate on Exchange
I absolutely agree with Johnny Delay. I'm using Ubuntu as a so called business user and it would help me convince other colleagues who are frustrated with Vista to at least consider trying Ubuntu as a secondary OS. (same as I did) I'm also under pressure to start using the Exchange calendar (and I'm working around that by using a smartphone which has a working Exchange client). So, Exchange support is vital to us business users that choose Ubuntu before Windows or Apple, therefore I believe that this bug is directly related to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1 -- Evolution will not authenticate on Exchange https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/207723 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Select the one that ends with splash and append the above line to it. If it works, then edit the /boot/grub/menu.lst and append the params to the appropriate line. [Bug 290178] [NEW] pptp vpn connection drops out
Public bug reported: I use pptp vpn to connect to our office network. Under Hardy using Network Manager (NM 0.6.6) this worked very well and was stable. Under Intrepid NM0.7 the same connection is unstable. While it connects without a problem and i can initiate Remote Desktop Protocols etc... eventually the connection drops out with the error VPN connection failed. I can usually reconnect immediately, but not always, if not a restart is usually required. Reconnected VPN connectiions continue to be unstable and fail frequently thereafter. Interestingly, opening pidgin precipitates this connection failure (not sure about other applications). ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- pptp vpn connection drops out https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/290178 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 290179] [NEW] NM 0.7 should prompt user for an eventual GSM Modem PIN Code instead of failing silently
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: network-manager I love the 3g support including the configuration guide in NM 0.7 - it is a brillliant step in making it easy for everyone to be able to configure their GSM Modem quickly and without needing expertise knowledge. Unfortunately, NM never prompts the user for the modem's PIN code. The user has to manually understand that the reason to the constant GSM connection failures (without any bubble-type error messages...) is that the modem PIN lock is not unlocked and then find the relevant setting in nm-connection-editor. I believe that this causes a majority of users with fully supported and capable GSM modems to think that Ubuntu doesn't support their modem, which is a shame... ** Affects: network-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- NM 0.7 should prompt user for an eventual GSM Modem PIN Code instead of failing silently https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/290179 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 287883] Re: Apport says not enough memory, yet 5 GB free
Ah, thanks for the attachment. Unfortunately it doesn't even have a core dump, because you already fed it through the apport GUI which removed it (because it became too big). Anyway, I think it makes sense for apport to put a boundary on core dump sizes (currently available memory times 3/4), otherwise you'd potentially wait for ages if your machine starts swapping, and would rightfully become very angry about our stupid crash reporting system. [Bug 290184] [NEW] suspendresume slow with fglrx driver in intrepid
Public bug reported: I use an ACER Travelmate 8200 laptop with this graphic card and the fglrx driver: 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc M56P [Radeon Mobility X1600] With gutsy suspend (to RAM) and resume worked very well. [Bug 289466] Re: Network Manager 0.7 applet not Appearing if there are managed entries in /etc/network/interfaces
By the way, after I restart the NetworkManager service, the applet pops up, but I can't do much with it as it shows a warning sign and says networking disabled in the tooltip. I'm guessing it might have something to do with this bug, but I might be wrong: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/intrepid/+source/network-manager/+bug/279262 -- Network Manager 0.7 applet not Appearing if there are managed entries in /etc/network/interfaces https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/289466 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 281132] Re: Intrepid Ibex not compatible with Intel(R) 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphics Controller
The above comment is incorrect. I've just updated the title and description to properly describe the issue. ** Summary changed: - Installer blacks out when KDE starts to load + Intrepid Ibex not compatible with Intel(R) 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphics Controller ** Description changed: - When I boot on the Kubuntu CD (Intrepid Ibex) Beta and I either choose - Install or the demo I see the screen with the progress bar which seems - to go fine. The the screen shows the beginning of the KDE loading - screen, I can see the disk icon fading in and then the screen flickers - and goes black. Sometimes it flickers some more and sometimes the KDE - loading sceen (with the disk icon) reappears briefly but after a while - (a couple of seconds) it stays Black. - - If have a dual monitor setup with the primary monitor connected to an - OnBoard Intel 82845G and the secondary monitor on a ATI Radeon 7000 - series. The monitors are both LG AL1716. What more information do I need - to provide to make this work? + I've got a motherboard with an on-board Intel(R) 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV + Graphics Controller. When starting X with the i810 driver the screen + stays black. The only way I can get it to work is with the vesa + driver. It works find under Windows though. Which info is needed to + investigate this further. -- Intrepid Ibex not compatible with Intel(R) 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphics Controller https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/281132 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
