[Bug 364531] Re: Unable to migrate Intrepid slapd.conf configuration to Jaunty

2009-05-30 Thread Greek Ordoño
This also happens when using ldap backend. I'm suspecting that the
slapd.preinst is the culprit to this bug:

dump_databases() {  # {{{
# If the user wants us to dump the databases they are dumped to the
# configured directory.

local db suffix file dir failed slapcat_opts

database_dumping_enabled || return 0

dir=`database_dumping_destdir`
echo 2 Dumping to $dir:
for suffix in `get_suffix`; do
file=$dir/$suffix.ldif
echo -n - directory $suffix... 2
# Need to support slapd.d migration from preinst
if [ -f ${SLAPD_CONF} ]; then
slapcat_opts=-f ${SLAPD_CONF}
else
slapcat_opts=-F ${SLAPD_CONF}
fi
slapcat ${slapcat_opts} -b $suffix  $file || failed=1
if [ $failed ]; then
rm -f $file
echo failed. 2
exit 1
fi
echo done. 2
done
}

Re: [Bug 329974] Re: SIGSEGV in _nss_dns_gethostbyname2_r() browsing Samba printers, i386 only

2009-05-30 Thread the motorman
Yes the printer does have the hand and it was working fine under 8.04.. I
also do not have ability to do the workaround as my GUI does not show
windows printer via Sambaunder networked printers in the
systemadminprinting GUI menu.. ( why not??)
The person who did the workaround used the 64 bit 9.04 version and I am on
the 32 bit. Apparently the 64 bit does NOT have this bug as stated in the
forums.
Thanks for your kind thoughts and ideas but I am almost at the point of
buying a wireless accessible printer.. as I spent too much time already on
this.
I have one idea that I will try and to make the windows connected printer
not shared and then reboot and make it shared.. this could well be a windows
problem.. it would not suprise me!!
Thanks again
ron Themotorman..

2009-05-30 Thread the motorman
Ed, Thanks , I did some checking and I have two other winxp systems each
with printers attached, both can print on the other machine.
I tried to follow someone who wrote about modifying smb.conf and messed it
up so badly that I downloaded a default version from ubuntu 8.4 as can't
find a default version for 9.04. ( Iknow i should have made a copy first
before messing with it... sometimes I get too impatient )
Thanks for lead to the Samba set up I'll try and follow it carefully. I'll
report results,
Can I put on a 64 bit version if my system is 32 bit and a fw years old?
Thanks again.

[Bug 382034] Re: Was attempting to install Samba

2009-05-30 Thread abqsteve
Fixed.

In a (misguided?) attempt to do a clean install of samba, I archived all
the files in the /etc/samba directory into a zip file. With those files
in the zip file, the install showed the above error. After
uncompressing those files and re-running the apt-get install, the
install worked and the samba demon started correctly. The files were:

st...@zippy:/etc/samba$ ll
total 72
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root30 2009-05-30 20:28 dhcp.conf
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 8 2008-06-30 09:56 gdbcommands

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 12416 2009-05-14 19:16 smb.conf-original

I haven't taken the time to figure out which file the daemon was looking
for but I think we can chalk this one up to user error. =)

[Bug 381831] [NEW] WICD installation removes above package

2009-05-30 Thread Mark
Public bug reported:

Since 4.3 Beta 1 KDE supports WICD as an alternative for Network-Manager
as a backend and I believe this also means it is supported by the
plasma-widget. Therefor the dependencies should be changed in a way that
the plasma widget is not removed when WICD is installed.

[Bug 381834] [NEW] Add Select main channel... to main kmix window

2009-05-30 Thread Gunnar Strand
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kmix

This is a request for improvement of usability

The Select main channel... (Välj huvudkanal...) function is only
available by right-click on the tray icon. It should be available from
the main mixer window too - all other functions are as far as I can see.
This will improve usability for those who are not aware of the right-

Hi,
I dont feel this is a bug. I'm copying in the comment I've sent to
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=470978

Only one .desktop file is shipped. (vs Debian menu files, for which
each client has its own, and are available via the Debian submenu in
Applications).

The Debian alternatives system changes which binary the .desktop file
points to.

2009-05-30 Thread Johannes Hessellund
I realize my acpid-solution only works when restarting acpid from within
the xsession. This is because of the dbus signal system. acpid must have
the users dbus-session-bus-address to send the notification. Sorry about
that.

Anyway the right way of solving the brightness is still fixing the 'hal'
bug, and let g-p-m do the work. g-p-m was designed to to this, and it
works. I did compile hal with the fix and enabling the hotkeys in
thinkpad-acpi.

The workaround is great. But its always better to fix the cause.

Please some dev look into bug #372874 for a review, patch for hal is
included!

[Bug 343121] Re: System Hang 32bit Jaunty Alpha6 ext4

2009-05-30 Thread Saïvann Carignan
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 330824 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/330824

This bug is a duplicate of bug 330824. Unfortunately, the cause of the
issue seems to be related to many things and the bug is not easily
reproducible on all hardware. However, there is already some work done
to help fixing it and this bug is already fixed in the currently in
development next ubuntu version karmic koala.

According to this, I'm marking this bug as a duplicate. Any further
discussion should take place in bug 330824.

[Bug 47604] Re: Pictures Folder isn't configurable

2009-05-30 Thread Andrew Frank
the screensavers with 9.04 jaunty are still a problem. the Pictures folder
does not display anything and cannot be stopped - only an 'unclean restart' did
work.
a method to put pictures in a folder and have them displayed with a selectable
interval is really needed. the current situation is not satisfactory (only
f-spot is working for me, and interval is not selectable either).
thanks for your efforts!

[Bug 338645] Re: linux freezes completely since 2.6.28-7

2009-05-30 Thread Saïvann Carignan
That really looks like a duplicate of 330824. Martin has a ext4
filesystem, freeze happens randomly and 2.6.29 kernel fixes the issue
(in the same way then 2.6.30 does not have this bug in karmic).

Martin : it would be interesting if you can delete huge amount of files
and report if the bug can be reproduced while deleting files. If the bug
can be reproduced in that way, can you verify if 2.6.29 or 2.6.30
fixes the bug for you too? Most of time, this was the easiest way to
reproduce the bug which does not seem to happen on any hardware.

[Bug 367464] Re: Jaunty freezes randomly

2009-05-30 Thread pansenstar
Hi,
I'm not the reporter, anyway - got the problem. There is no ext4 involved at
all on my system.

Last try was to deny the bluetooth dameon to come up (init script exit
...). This worked very well for about a week without reboots and
freezes.

...until yesterday as I connected my android phone and played some
around with adb and fastboot.

This peoblem seems really weird, sorry.

[Bug 192508] Re: mouse keys turns on randomly

2009-05-30 Thread Wizard_Yo
This was very annoying for me until someone mentioned replacing Vino
with x11vnc:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=45565

I haven't had a single issue after making the switch.

What was happening before the switch:

Mouse keys turns on randomly when using VNC from Windows clients to connect to
Vino on Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron.
 -and-
Periodically, my NumLock would turn off on Ubuntu and I had to physically turn
it back on with the keyboard on the box (VNC never would allow NumLock to turn
back on).

Again, x11vnc fixed it completely.

[Bug 330824] Re: Soft lockups (freezes) when deleting files from ext4 partitions on 2.6.28

2009-05-30 Thread iamringo
So this is probably not terribly helpful, but I'd like to add that like
the person in a duplicate bug (#34312), I also experience lockups
seemingly at random (I'll sit down at my computer which has been idle
for awhile and find everything frozen and the caps lock key flashing).
I'm running Jaunty w/ 2.6.28-11-generic kernel and Ext4, and I know of
at least one other user who has the same thing happen to her. The reason
I'm mentioning this is to point out that while recursively removing lots
of files does seem to be a sure-fire way to reproduce the bug (hang.py
causes my computer to freeze, as does emptying the trash if it's got a
lot of stuff in it), there seem to be other things that set off the
behavior as well

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: thunderbird

Hi
I needed to re-install Ubuntu 8.04 on a new drive.

[Bug 381426] Re: garbled text after update to 9.04

2009-05-30 Thread Casandro
Desktop effects are not enabled, and I'm using the standard xorg driver.
After re-seating of the graphics card text is normal again. However
there are still some minor defects. For example when scrolling with the
mouse wheel, the scrollbar arrows disappear until I hover over the
scrollbars. There are also defects around text input fields.

At the moment I cannot rule out a hardware defekt, but I'll try to try
another, identical graphics card soon.

[Bug 295287] Re: qla2xxx driver cannot load firmware at boot

2009-05-30 Thread sdedgar
I actually upgraded to 9.04 yesterday, so now on kernel 2.6.28-11, bug
still exists and is now causing significant delays to bootup, several
minutes worth. The system does boot eventually however without any
actions on my part. 8.10 did not appear to suffer these delays,
certainly not to the same extent.

I'm afraid I'm not very familiar with the initramfs system, so I'm not
really sure what is required when that other bug stated

creating your own file in /etc/initramfs-tools/hooks that copies
/lib/udev/firmware.sh and the /lib/firmware/ql2400_fw.bin file into the
initramfs

I've had a look at the initramfs-tools man page, but it isn't clear to
me whether the included functions are appropriate for this, as these
files don't appear to me to be modules, and copy_exec doesn't seem
appropriate either. This being the case, where should I be copying the
files to?

Thanks

Steven

[Bug 278318] Re: video tearing with textured video on intel card

2009-05-30 Thread pvanbrakel
Have the same problem with the video tearing while playing a dvd with or
without compiz turned on, so also with the gtk metacity manager, the dvd
shows big lines. All the other movie files are fine, except dvd. I tried
this whole week all the solutions, but none of them seems to help.

Iam using ubuntu 9.04:

Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS/GME, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics
Controller (rev 03)

though after testing, kaffeine seems to have less trouble playing dvds

1) Without a context, calls should just return an error, not segfault. (And

make the test case longer.

  4. more text, same resolution. last line is loading hardware drivers
  5. the screen is cleared, the resolution is set to 1280x800 (the correct
resolution for my monitor) and the text continues.
  6. i am presented with a login screen

Only with .wav files; FLACs work just fine.

R: [Bug 301353] Re: HP Pavilion dv5: ATA exception on resume from suspend

2009-05-30 Thread Icarosaurus
I confirm that the crackling sounds on reboot are gone for me.

My delay in resume is caused by the dvb-usb card. Removing the driver
module speeds up the resume making it almost immediate.

Does anyone know the solution? the driver complains about the firmware,
but it is regularly loaded at boot.

I also see messages about bluetooth on resume. Is any message shown at
resume, for you all?

I'll try to catch those messages and be more detailed.

I can confirm that the BIOS update solved the suspend/resume problem.
And also the multimedia buttons (I don't know how to define them, my
english doesn't reach so far...) at the top of keyboard are working a
little better (before, changing the volume had become a really serious
ability proof!). Now I'm waiting only for the cracking/static noise from
speaker on reboot to be solved...any solution for that yet?

[Bug 381850] [NEW] Russian layouts non-standard in Scim, need typewriter

2009-05-30 Thread stozi
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: scim-tables-additional

This package offers two keyboard layouts for Russian to be available
through scim. These are translit and yawerty. The standard and official
keyboard layout for the Russian language is typewriter. This is what all
former soviet countries use. Instead of qwerty, or ',ерты as in translit
and яверты as in yawerty, typewriter goes йцукен across the top left.

[Bug 381852] [NEW] xfs package: /var/run/xfs/xfs.pid or /var/run/xfs.pid ?

2009-05-30 Thread Eric Seigne
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xfs

After installing xfs on jaunty (apt-get install xfs), /etc/init.d/xfs

xfs[17684]: cannot fdopen process ID file /var/run/xfs/xfs.pid for writing: No
such file or directory
xfs[17684]: error opening process ID file /var/run/xfs/xfs.pid

But /etc/init.d/xfs is configured to use /var/run/xfs.pid
(PIDFILE=/var/run/xfs.pid) ... and it started xfs daemon with this command line:
start-stop-daemon --start --quiet --pidfile /var/run/xfs.pid --exec

[Bug 273859] Re: Apache mod_dav_svn leaking memory

2009-05-30 Thread depe
I found the same issue using Ubuntu 9.04 32bits server
Linux hdm-s004 2.6.28-11-server #42-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 17 02:48:10 UTC 2009
i686 GNU/Linux
libapache2-svn 1.5.4dfsg1-1ubuntu2
subversion 1.5.4dfsg1-1ubuntu2

I also found some interesting information here:
http://groups.google.se/group/linux.debian.bugs.dist/browse_thread/thread/d14c54c3b8a56255
and here http://www.sharp-tools.net/archives/000928.html

Issue seems to be memory leakage due to authentication requested for
each path, which for big repos tree can be really problematic.

Workaround proposed is to add
SVNPathAuthz off
in /etc/apache2/mods-available/dav_svn.conf

I still need to test it again for a couple of huge svn checkout

From what I understood, this will cause mod_dav_svn stop sending
authentication request for each path access.
Path authorization file still works correctly and users are still asked to
enter user name / password the first time they connect

Still I'm very interested in a solution since this issues reduces
authentication possibilities.

Problem starts with Compiz losing the virtual desktops-2 instead of 4. No
screenlets. No 3d cube.
Restarting machine. After that I a getting this error. If Compiz behaves
correct the sleep-start cycle is
working perfectly.

Compiz error starts after 3 or 4 supend-resume cycles. That is in my
case 50 -70 hours uptime.

The Bright side is that this is the only kernel bug on my machine.

[Bug 61903] Re: dhcp3 fails to start during boot-time but starts seamlessly invoking the init-script manually

2009-05-30 Thread hagan
I see the same problem here on my machine. The problem is dhcpd depends
on a configured interface to listen on, but the interfaces are handled
by the network-manager which is started after dhcpd in the standard
setup. Even if I put dhcpd after network-manager in the startup scripts,
it takes so long to configure the interfaces that dhcpd is still too
fast. I do not know how to only start dhcpd after the interfaces are up.
Is there a possibility in network-manager to start up services after
interfaces are configured?

[Bug 272509] Re: APTonCD crashes

2009-05-30 Thread s.chohan
Good news to all, this bug is I think now solved, as I downloaded the
latest aptoncd package from

http://downloads.sourceforge.net/aptoncd/aptoncd_0.1-1_all.deb

and installed in my new jaunty 9.04 installation, it worked fine and i
made a 550mb addon cd with it which really worked great.

So here is a short howto for this,

1- First I downloaded this package from sourceforge (aptoncd_0.1-1_all.deb)
2- This package need a dependency nautilus-cd-burner,
and its in jaunty repository also, you could also download it separately as
all dependecies for it are full filled in the base installation of jaunty.
3- First you should install nautilus-cd-burner, it will ask for removal of
Braseiro (Default cd burning software in jaunty installation)and a lib file
for baseiro. It will be removed when nautilus-cd-burner will be installed.
4- Now install aptoncd_0.1-1_all.deb and it will work fine with even large no.
   of packages.

I did it yesterday after reading all about this bug and now its really working
fine.
Thanks to latest version of aptoncd.

[Bug 48068] Re: grub entry added for Compaq diagnostics partition

2009-05-30 Thread Luca Bonora
Hello. I have a friend of mine who has the same bug in grub, and I was
searching for a solution. I don't know if this behaviour is caused from this
Compaq diagnostics (in grub saved as Windows Vista/Longhorn (loader)), but
when I choose a different operating system there are some problems in booting.
For example, If the first time I chose Ubuntu, and at reboot I choose now
Windows XP , the laptop reboots again to grub, and then I can choose Windows XP
that boots well, although sometimes there is a BSOD (My friend said this thing,
but I never seen it). This behaviour happens always when I choose a different
operating system than the last one.
Thanks in advance.

[Bug 200671] Re: I want a font like Fixedsys

This font is almost perfect. One last request to add: please make it so
that bold and normal look identical for size 12 (just as Fixedsys does).
Thanks!

[Bug 379153] Re: kernel lockup after ~10mn of sustained processor load

2009-05-30 Thread Ronan Le Hy
I have tried a mainline kernel from the mainline kernel ppa:
  2.6.29-02062904-generic #02062904 SMP
The crash is the same.

Before, on the standard Jaunty kernel, I tried removing linux-backports-
modules-jaunty, that changed nothing.

Also, when I removed all modules I could (modprobe -r from the console), the
crash did not manifest itself. It showed that what happens after 5-10 mn with
my program (the compilation job that saturates the processor) is that the
program crashes with a segmentation fault. This shows in kern, log:
 May 22 20:44:56 arturo kernel: [ 1068.876723] ocamlc.opt[4145]: segfault at
141a8008 ip 081709fb sp bfc58934 error 4 in ocamlc.opt[8048000+138000]

[Bug 366871] Re: jaunty on samsung Q45 looses mouse/kdb interface after adjusting brightness

2009-05-30 Thread malcolm
Ahah!

Hit F2 on boot and dive into the BIOS and set brightness on battery to
'User Control', then the screen is the same as on AC, so you can
actually use it in daylight on battery.
