I am also using Ubuntu 8.04 and the version of the official
repositories. I have started a download, meanwhile I have changed the
name of the file to áéíóúñ.rar and I have waited it to download. Then
I have gone to the download folder and the name of the downloaded file
is right, respecting the Spanish characters. Do you download your files
in an ext3 partition or in some other file system?

[Bug 224126] [NEW] brasero does not check integrity

2008-04-29 Thread Benjamín Valero Espinosa
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: brasero

I have had this bug since I am using Hardy, that it is little time.
Steps to reproduce:

1. Burn a CD (I am using a laptop).
2. When burning ends (perfectly) the CD ejects (as in Gutsy).
3. To check integrity I have to reinsert the CD.
4. The CD gets mounted, but Brasero cannot check integrity because it finds
that the CD drive is locked.

I would be glad to give so information as I can.

problem. If I open some image with EOG, the program automatically fits
the image size to the screen size between panels (if it is bigger) but
now it does but taking the screen size as there was no bottom panel. May
it be a bug of Compiz or Eog? Mmm, I think I should have taken a
screenshot, maybe tomorrow that I will see my computer again.

[Bug 134235] Spanish manpages with wrong encoding

Binary package hint: manpages-es

The man pages provided by the package 'manpages-es' are not well
encoded, showing strange characters when accentuated characters should
appear. This does not happen with the man pages provided by the package

I am using UTF-8 as default encoding. I have looked into the source of
thouse packages and found that the pages of the first one are encoded

There is no problem running Alltray from the command line. The bug
happens when using Alltray visually, when it offers the option of
clicking the window you want to tray. When the Desktop Effects are
activated, Alltray can not find any window to tray. Running Alltray in
debug mode gives no useful info.

[Bug 92680] Re: Vista partitions don't show on My Computer

2007-04-13 Thread Benjamín Valero Espinosa
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 73227 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/73227

Eugenia, perhaps this procedure will help you to get what you want:

Launch (via Alt + F2 or terminal) the application 'gconf-editor'. Then,
browse in the left tree at apps nautilus desktop, and unmark the key
'volumes_visible'. By the way, you can mark the keys
'comuter_icon_visible', and so on if you like these icons in your
desktop (I do).

Anyway, I agree that this bug is not a duplicate of #73227, because it
talks about showing icons on desktop and #73227 about showing them at
the Places menu.

Playing with alacarte, I have reproduced the bug again, but I can't do
it every time :( The problem has come turning off the Preferences item

Although called by another method, the bug happens again in __getPath,

[Bug 91677] libxine-ffmpeg doesn't work well with w32codecs

2007-03-12 Thread Benjamín Valero Espinosa
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libxine1-ffmpeg

I am using an updated Ubuntu Feisty. This is the situation:
1. I try to play a Real Video file with totem-xine. I get no video and no
sound, so I install libxine-extracodecs, now in Feisty renamed to
libxine-ffmpeg.
2. I try to play the file again and I get sound but no video. Well, I install
the package w32codecs from the Debian-multimedia repository.
3. I try to play the file again and... I get video but no sound.
4. I uninstall the libxine-ffmpeg package and downgrade the libxine-extracodecs
package to the Edgy version. I try to play the file and it plays well.

So I think the new libxine-ffmpeg package doesn't work together with the
w32codecs package, perhaps some library or codec hiding.

[Bug 87684] Needs a patch to compile

2007-03-08 Thread Benjamín Valero Espinosa
If you want to compile the last stable version 2.1.3 of aMule against
libwxgtk2.8, you will need to apply first a patch:

http://forum.amule.org/index.php?topic=11834.0

Otherwise, you can compile the CVS version of aMule with no patch, but
you will have an unstable version. I am using this CVS version and
sometimes I get some bugs.

My vote for compiling the stable version 2.1.3 with the mentioned patch.

[Bug 83658] Re: Move Synaptic to System tools

Well, as I was who started the bug, I would like to give my opinion,
although I am just a common user. I really don't care if Synaptic is in
the Applications or System menu. What I like is to have its launcher
easy to access, and with the Control Center it had turned a bit more
difficult.

But it seems that there are more people as me and now Alacarte has the
option of seeing the Control Center, the Preferences menu, or both! So
now, if you put again Syanptic in the Preferences menu, I can access it
quickly just with keys, as I had ever done.

[Bug 85327] The trash of Gnome and KDE should be the same

2007-02-15 Thread Benjamín Valero Espinosa
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

By default, in Gnome the trash is in ~/.Trash and in KDE it is in
~/.local/share/Trash and the have different structures: Gnome just moves
the files and KDE keeps also info of the files.

I don't know if this is a directive of Freedesktop.org, but it would be
useful that all the desktops shared the same trash. The bug #75435 talks
about the problem with Digikam, but it always happens deleting anything
from a Gnome application in KDE or vice versa, so it is a more general
problem.

At the moment, it seems that making a symbolic link can solve the
problem, but that's not a good solution, because the info files
generated by KDE are not removed if we empty the trash from Gnome.

[Bug 75237] Comment and possible workaround

2007-02-13 Thread Benjamín Valero Espinosa
I think my problem is the same I have read. My USB Wireless device uses
the zd1211rw module. When I boot my system, the network-manager applet
starts spinning trying to find my wireless network. There I can have
three situations:

1. While is searching, I do something else, as opening a terminal or the
browser. After that, the system hangs.

2. While it searches, I do nothing. It doesn't connect, but clicking on
the icon I see that it has found my network. I click on the network and
the icon starts spinning again, but it doesn't connect either :( I try
again: I click in the list on my network, the icon starts spinning, then
I click on my network again and... wow, the green lights turn on and it
connects!

3. While it searches, I click in the icon, choose in the list my
network, click on it and the green lights appear :)

The first situation is very strange. But the other two... I see that my
network is detected so, why doesn't it connect automatically?

provide the library for Firefox, only for Mozilla. I suppose it has been
just a slip of the packager ;)

The list of installed archives with the package:

/usr
/usr/lib
/usr/lib/firefox
/usr/lib/firefox/plugins
/usr/lib/mozilla
/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins
/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/mozplugger.so

[Bug 83771] Impossible importing in Python after updating

2007-02-07 Thread Benjamín Valero Espinosa
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: python2.4

I am using unstable Feisty, so I know strange behaviors are common.
Until today, I was coding in Python perfectly. I am not sure which
package I have updated, but now I get a lot of lines with the same
warning:

warning: Python C API version mismatch for module XXX: This Python has
API version 1013, module select has version 1012.

[Bug 83658] Move Synaptic to System tools

2007-02-06 Thread Benjamín Valero Espinosa
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: synaptic

This just a suggestion or enhancement. I think that Synaptic is a very
used application, at least on the first days of using Ubuntu, and it is
really hard to find it in the new Control Center. Perhaps it could be
moved to System Tools, as it is not really a configuration tool, but a
system tool.

[Bug 81517] The zd1211rw module does not recognize my wireless connection

2007-01-25 Thread Benjamín Valero Espinosa
Public bug reported:

First of all, excuse my poor English. I am using a USB Wireless
connection that should be detected by the zd1211rw kernel module. If I
install typical Ubuntu from the Live CD (or from the alternate) I am not
able to find my connection. I have tried it all. I have to install the
old zd1211 drivers to be able to find it.

My surprise comes when I try the Kubuntu Live CD. It doesn't find my
connection either. But I start the Wireless Assistant tool... ¡and it
finds it and it works!

Thus, or the Wireless Assistant is a really magic tool or I was wrong
and the zd1211rw kernel module works fine. I suppose it will be this
last option. What can I do then to make my connection work in standard
Ubuntu (with Gnome) without having to install old drivers?

[Bug 79095] Add thw old zd1211 module to the kernel

2007-01-13 Thread Benjamín Valero Espinosa
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.20

I have a Wireless USB device, model Comtrend CT-WN4320Z. It works in
Dapper but not in Edgy or Feisty. It seems that the problem is in the
driver, the zd1211 module. As I read at http://zd1211.ath.cx, this
module doesn't fit well with the Linux kernel so it's being rewrited to
the new zd1211rw module, and this new rewritten module is now included
in the 2.6.17 kernel and upper, deleting the old one included in the
2.6.15 module. I have had this problem with 2.6.17, 2.6.18 and 2.6.20
kernel versions.

So I had to download the driver sources, compile and install the new
module. It can live with the rewritten one, it seems. At least, I
haven't had any problem.

This bug seems common, the bugs #78311, #57810, #63664 and #72767 talk
about the same. My suggestion is to include again in the kernels
compiled by Ubuntu (if it is possible, since Edgy updates) until the
rewritten module works perfectly.

[Bug 70246] It doesn't ask for the workspace pach

Public bug reported:

3. Restart and see that this prompt doesn't happen.

and change it every time I start Eclipse is a little annoying. At the
moment, I have solved it running Eclipse with the -data option.

[Bug 59875] apt should look into the mounted device before all

2006-09-11 Thread Benjamín Valero Espinosa
Public bug reported:

I don't have a high-speed Internet connection so I downloaded apart the
DVDs with the Universe/Multiverse repositories, and then added them to
my repositories list.

Sometimes I install a package that needs dependencies from several DVDs,
and apt asks me for those, always in the same order (I suppose this is
the order I added them).

If apt just needs the DVD 2 and this is mounted, doesn't ask it and
installas. But if needs the DVD 1 and 2 and the 2 is mounted, asks me
the 1 and then the 2, instead of using first the one that is mounted.

I know this is not a bug, this is a nonsense. But I know a lot of people
(well, not too much) that use this kind of repositories because want to
use Ubuntu and don't have (or can't configure) their Internet
connection.

[Bug 57020] Re: Double mount of USB pendrive

2006-08-25 Thread Benjamín Valero Espinosa
The strange files don't appear always. Moreover, the device doesn't always
mount double. If I look in the Device Manager, I see two elements:
* Volume (vfat)
* KINGSTON -- this is my pendrive

The first one is mounted on /media/usbdisk and the second one on
/media/kingston. But if I look in Discs, my pendrive has just one
partition. I look in Windows XP and I find the same.

[Bug 7866] Re: apt-get calls for drive '/cdrom/'

2006-06-15 Thread Benjamín Valero Espinosa
I had this bug in Breezy and it still happens in Dapper.

My case: I have a CD-ROM unit (master) and a DVD unit (slave). As the CD
unit is the fastest, I installed Ubuntu by that unit. Afterwards, when I
try to add a DVD with packages, I insert it but apt just looks in the
/cdrom point.

Why can't it look in all the possible CD drives?

I solve it installing from my DVD drive or mounting the DVD in the
/cdrom point, but I suppose it shouldn't be very difficult to solve,
although if it comes from Warty...
