[Bug 599431] Re: wireless card disabled

[Bug 599431] [NEW] wireless card disabled
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: network-manager I only use wireless on an infrequent basis. I last used it about 1 month ago. It worked then, but not any more. WirelessEnabled=false is in /var/lib/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.state and despite changing the file as root to WirelessEnabled=true, upon the next boot, it has reverted back to WirelessEnabled=false. I think I have tried removing NetworkManager.state. I have edited the file as root,; also stopped and restarted network manager, but none have made any difference once the computer is rebooted. This occurs on kernel 2.6.32-22-generic and development kernel 2.6.35-999-generic. Have not plugged in to ethernet port since removing NetworkManager.state, but ethernet was previously set at 'true' and as you can see, the 3g modem is set as true, but the Wireless is set as false. The wireless will not remain on 'true' if edited as root, once the computer is rebooted. [main] WWANEnabled=true WirelessEnabled=false This is a regression as wireless previously worked faultlessly until 1 month ago. I am not sure which updates caused the bug to appear, but it is rather annoying not having wireless access when I need it. [Bug 524454] Re: Networking is disabled on boot (usually after suspend/hibernate)
I only use wireless on an infrequent basis. I last used it about 1 month ago. It worked then, but not any more. WirelessEnabled=false is in /var/lib/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.state and despite changing the file as root toWirelessEnabled=true , upon the next boot, it has reverted back to WirelessEnabled=false. I think I have tried all the suggested fixes, but none have made any difference once the computer is rebooted. By the way, I never suspend/hibernate my computer, so that is not a contributing factor. Don't think I can add any more to this rather long bug report, however, if there is anything you need that may help sort this out, please do not hesitate to contact me. -- Networking is disabled on boot (usually after suspend/hibernate) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/524454 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 571429] Re: Error on unmounting external hard drive
Hi Jeremy, Just one question re testing the upstream kernel. The daily build has not got a kernel image image, only kernel headers and kernel source - I thought I should be testing the kernel image. Can you please tell me what I have to test as the two options available under daily/current (below), don't seem correct. Of course I could be wrong, but the last time I did this kind of testing, I remember using the upstream kernel image. http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/daily/current/ -- Error on unmounting external hard drive https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/571429 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 571429] Re: Error on unmounting external hard drive
Sorry, I did that twice. It still occurs every time I 'safely remove' the external hard drive. This has only occurred with the lucid kernel - prior kernels (going back as far as Ibex) did not have this issue and the hard drive partitions and filesystem types are unchanged. I will test the current development kernel tomorrow and let you know. I unfortunately don't have the bandwidth available to download a daily build - I'm on very limited bandwidth at present. [Bug 298532] Re: [i965] reflection plugin freezes systems with Intel GM965
I have a duplicate bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/591015 When I enable 'reflection' via cssm gui, it logs me out of the desktop and sends me to the login page. Every time I login, it returns to the login page, saying x could not be started. As soon as I booted in failsafe mode and de-selected 'reflection', ubuntu has been fine ever since. I have attached output of /var/log/Xorg.0.log. It seems that the monitor's vertical and horizontal synch rates go out of range when the 'reflection' plugin is enabled, hence xserver not starting. ** Attachment added: Xorg.0.log.txt.tar.gz http://launchpadlibrarian.net/49952090/Xorg.0.log.txt.tar.gz -- [i965] reflection plugin freezes systems with Intel GM965 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/298532 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 591015] [NEW] Enabling 'reflection' in compiz caused xserver not to start
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: compiz Enabled 'reflection' via cssm gui and ubuntu immediately went to login screen. When i tried to log back in, x would not start and it returned to lgin screen again. I then got in to ubuntu via failsafe mode - as soon as disabled 'reflection', the computer went back to normal. I will attach compressed version of /var/log/Xorg.0.log - seems that enabling 'reflection' mucked up the monitors v-synch and h-synch. I too get the 3g modem showing up as a data storage device, but if you go to network manager and edit the mobile broadband gui with your apn and number (mine is *99#), it should connect on the latest kernel. I am unable to test the latest .iso as I have no downloads left. Christian, so far the mainline kernel 2.6.34-999 generic has connected the E620, at every boot. I think it would be useful for you to try this kernel too - Jeremy has put a link further up the page. Hopefully the developers can see what is in the kernel I am now using and what deficiencies are in the 'official' kernel and are able to fix it. Not sure what will happen when new 'official' kernels are released, but I can always reinstall this mainline one if necessary - I have made sure to save it so that I can reinstall it if needed. -- Huawei E620 usb modem doesn't work in 9.10 or 10.04 Beta 1 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/545985 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Ok, the apport code wants to connect to launchpad when it's run. This of course is not possible when the 3g modem won't work without the two above packages. Need a code that saves output to .txt - then I can send it once I reinstall the usb_modeswitch packages. Revised my position on this - the huawei E620 is now working on RC release (with full updates). Can't understand this as it originally was not recognised by newtwork manager. I have removed the two .deb packages mentioned above and now the 3g modem is working without the usb-modeswitch packages. Let me know if you still need the apport code or not and whether you wish me to try the mainline kernel still. I am happy to if you think it will be helpful. [Bug 545985] Re: Huawei E620 usb modem doesn't work in 9.10 or 10.04 Beta 1
I too am very glad that it is working. Christian, you could try the two .deb packages mentioned above. One needs to be installed before the other, otherwise there is a dependency not met message - so if you get that on the first package you try, abort that, install the other package and then the second will install fine. Once connected (you will have to reboot), you should be able to get rid of those packages once you have updated to kernel 2.6.31-21-generic. [Bug 545985] Re: Huawei E620 usb modem doesn't work in 9.10 or 10.04 Beta 1
Christian, I am glad your two computers are now working with the Huawei E620, as mine no longer is. When it started working, I rebooted a few times, left it off for an hour and rebooted and the E620 connected upon boot each time, this was while I was at work. Upon arriving home, the E620 was no longer recognised in network manager, although all the settings were still under 'edit'. I have again resorted to the two .deb packages to get the E620 to work. Can't understand why it worked perfectly for a few hours and then stopped again. I have not installed anything new, nor have I done any updates. This is very odd. I did check d-bus modem manager and that is installed - so now I am again stuck. At least the .deb packages allow internet access, even if it is a bit of a hack (apologies to the writer of the .debs, but it is better for things like this to work from the kernel, rather than scripts). I have thus re- opened the bug and labelled it incomplete. Hope Jeremy is still watching this report. Jeremy, will the apport code you sent earlier, be useful if I have these .debs installed? I assume not, in which case I need a command that will save the output to .txt so that I can send it later, once I reinstall the .debs and have internet connection again. But I must sleep now, I work at night and have not slept for 21 hours. But I will follow any suggestions that are forwarded once I wake up. Thanks for following up on this - it's become a very strange bug with it working and then within an hour not working for no apparent reason. Before I go to sleep I might try the mainline kernel and report back. -- Huawei E620 usb modem doesn't work in 9.10 or 10.04 Beta 1 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/545985 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

The last updates I did were two days ago. There has been no change to the speed of the desktop loading; it is still 20+ seconds from login to a usable desktop. The 'hang' occurs after my login password is accepted - up to that point, the boot is quick as is shutdown. I already have disabled my floppy drive in BIOS as that being enabled, in the absence of a physical device being part of the hardware, caused hassles for me on 9.10. [Bug 509547] Re: [lucid] (option) 3G USB modem unusable if inserted from boot
I'm sure the developers are working on this issue, but it still doesn't work in 10/04 RC release. This is catastrophic in my opinion and the final release should be held back if these devices are not able to work. The device is now recognised as a VirginBroadband cd, rather than a modem. Network manager still won't connect it after all the relevant details are entered via 'edit'. I will try usb-modeswitch again, but it didn't work before, so I am not too hopeful. [Bug 51866] Re: GRUB splash images do not work.
I have fixed this issue with the help of drs305 from ubuntu forums. It seems that somewhere along the way, when /boot/grub/grub.cfg was altered to the 'new' format where one only has to add a line to WALLPAPER=..., the file somehow corrupted and half of it was missing and it looked as though the /etc/grub.d/05_debian_theme section of /boot/grub/grub.cfg was a mix of the original file and the 'new' file syntax. Essentially had no choice but to get a copy of drs305 /boot/grub/grub.cfg and then add/edit the image I wanted. It now works fine. I am not a programmer, but there seems to be a corruption of /etc/grub.d/05_debian_theme section between the 'old' and 'new' voodoo code pertaining to that part of /boot/grub/grub.cfg. From memory, when the original grub upgrade was introduced I chose to keep current format (or whatever the exact text is), this is when this problem/corruption occurred as the splash-image had worked fine until that point. Since fixing it with a copy of a 'good' /boot/grub/grub.cfg (from drs305) I have since chosen to use the 'maintainers version' and everything has worked correctly. Not sure if the above is relevant, but that is the series of events that occurred in my case, when the grub splash-image not loading arose. -- GRUB splash images do not work. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/51866 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

It persistently mounts as a 'read-only' storage device, however, lsusb lists it as a E620 modem. As I said yesterday, if I have already got a desktop going and then logout and back in, the desktop, appears very quickly (in fact before the music theme has stopped), but from a cold boot, it is extremely slow. I'll change the wallpaper and see if that makes a difference (although it is a native one). I'll let you know what transpires. Thanks for the interest, even the bootchart is not showing what is actually occurring. -- new light theme hangs for 20 seconds before desktop loads https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/534040 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 534040] Re: new light theme hangs for 20 seconds before desktop loads
Changing the wallpaper made no difference (was using the space one that has a number of wallpapers the change, that's why I thought that changing it might do something. I just timed the issue exactly. From the time I hit enter after inputting my password, the theme music takes 2 seconds before it starts playing and plays until 7 seconds. Before the desktop appears, another 20 seconds passes - total time from login to desktop is 27 seconds (worse than I thought). Hope there is some other log/s that can be looked at. From grub to login is quick, but after login it's very slow. I can promise, despite what bootchart indicates, it takes far longer than 8 seconds for me to see a desktop - 19 seconds longer. It is unfortunate that I can't show you what is happening. Guess I could video the monitor during startup to desktop if that would help. Let me know if you think that is worthwhile.
This is still occurring, however, if I just log off and then login again once the desktop is running, upon logging in again, the desktop loads very quickly. I therefore wonder whether the hanging issue is related to startup rather than gdm? I hope this is looked at as it is really annoying to have to wait 20seconds for the desktop to appear after login has been accepted. Sorry, I thought I did add to the original bug - if I didn't it was an inadvertent mistake. [Bug 533097] Re: lucid lynx - grub 2 doesn't load .tga splash image
I'm sorry i didn't put in the appropriate package - actually, I tried reporting this 3 times before it worked on the fourth try, as launchpad kept timing out. [Bug 533097] [NEW] lucid lynx - grub 2 doesn't load .tga splash image
Public bug reported: Grub 2 doesn't load .tga splash image. After updating grub 2 /boot/grub/grbu.cfg lists the .tga as being 'found', but upon reboot, doesn't load it at the grub screen. This is happening in both karmic ( kernel 2.6.31-20-generic) and lucid (kernel 2.6.32-14-generic). [Bug 516520] [NEW] lucid lynx - login screen stuck in a loop
Public bug reported: Lucid lynx with kernel 2.6.32-12-generic. Can't login. Login seems to be stuck in a loop. As in; I login, the screen disappears as though it is going to go to the desktop, but the login screen then appears again...and it keeps happening again and again. Also happens on kernel 2.6.32-10-generic. Prior to the alpha 3 update the login screen did nothing at all on kernel 2.6.32-10-generic , as in it did not accept any keyboard or mouse input - it just frozen. Think that occurred after the last alpha 2 updates, prior to the alpha 3 updates. I can only get into console via safe mode and thus can't provide any more information, unless someone can tell me what commands to enter. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- lucid lynx - login screen stuck in a loop https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/516520 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
