[Bug 185986] Re: WebDAV extremely slow
I observed something interesting. I am running KDE, and both the konqueror (still running KDE 4) and dolphin (KDE plasma 5) file managers have their own webdav implementation, which is much faster. Just by putting "webdav://" into the address bar followed by the address, I can directly access the pages. And it is blazingly fast! I would say at least one order of magnitude faster than mounting the same server via davfs2 and accessing it this way. The advantage of this test is that I can access the very same webdav server from the same machine in both ways. Therefore, I can rule out speed limitations on the server side, performance limitations on my machine, or network speed as reasons for the davfs2 slowness. However, while the "webdav://" implementation is good to browse files, it is not a full replacement for a mount. For instance, when I click on a document to open it, a temporary file will be downloaded to a temporary folder. So when I save an edited document, it will only change the temporary file, but not change the file on the WebDAV server. What would be ideal is if the developers of the "webdav://" implementation at KDE turned it into a fuse implementation of a file system! But I have not yet found out who the developers are. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/185986 Title: WebDAV extremely slow To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/davfs2/+bug/185986/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 823011] Re: Webcam (0c45:62c0, uvcvideo) doesn't work with Natty kernel.
After reading comment #6, I want to provide more details: 1) After upgrading to natty, I noticed that the camera was sometimes not recognized any more. It got worse until the camera was not recognized at all any more. 2) Since the camera had been continuously working under lucid (and b/c I rarely had hardware problems in the past), I first thought that this had to be something related to the version of the OS and first blamed natty. (Which is why I posted here in the first place.) 3) Then, I decided to study this further and booted into lucid from a USB stick and found that the camera was not working as well, at which point I started to consider a hardware problem 4) I started pressing against my laptop lid in areas surrounding the camera, and I bent the lid there. In some cases, I would end up in a configuration in which the camera was recognized. So I concluded that this was likely some problem of an intermittent/broken electrical contact. 5) Next day, I took the laptop lid apart. A piece of sheet metal holding the camera was deformed. This must have been from a previous accident which was professionally (but obviously not perfectly) repaired. I tried to bend the metal in place. I also took the camera out and played with its connection cable a bit at the connector. While the system was disassembled I booted up and found that the camera was recognized. I re- assembled the system, and ever since then, the camera is always recognized and working perfectly. 6) My guess would be that either the metal plate was shorting a contact on the camera board, or the electrical connection at the connector was bad, which got fixed just by playing around with it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/823011 Title: Webcam (0c45:62c0, uvcvideo) doesn't work with Natty kernel. I see it on a Dell Latitude E6400 (Intel GMA 4500 graphics). I can confirm that the problem does not occur when compositing is turned off. Initially, I can use the keyboard and mouse to operate what's left with some functionlity (clicking menus, for instance). However after doing this for a little while, this doesn't work either, and the UI freezes completely, to the extent that I can't even bring up a terminal by doing Ctrl-Alt-F1. I saw this several times. @Joe: If you can live without compositing, just switch off Desktop Effects, and suspend might work in your case as well. However, when I try to open it, the window says: The service 'Printer Configuration' does not provide an interface 'KCModule' with keyword 'system-config-printer-kde/kcm-scpk.py'The factory does not support creating components of the specified type. Possible reasons: o An error occurred during your last KDE upgrade leaving an orphaned control module o You have old third party modules lying around. Check these points carefully and try to remove the module mentioned in the error message. If this fails, consider contacting your distributor or packager. This symptom is identical to what's reported in Bug #348704. However the reported workaround for this bug 348704 does not work in my case, which suggests that I am having a different problem. That's why I am now looking into this bug (377333). If I have yet a different disease, I'll have to file a new one. -- KDE Printer Configuration applet is broken https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/377333 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to kdebindings in ubuntu. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

@APO: I am not suffering from this bug, but I am suffering from the similar bug 334052 (WPA2-PEAP), like ozone baby above. In my case, I was able to fix it simply by not using the plasma-widget-network-manager. Instead I am using nm-applet from network-manager-gnome package. I have it in my KDE autostart folder, and it works painlessly, and very reliably and smooth. (I am also using gnome's keyring manager to save passwords.) [Bug 339957] Re: Audio IN does not work on Dell E6400
Javier, I am now pretty confident this is not but #275998 for several reasons: a) In the original bug report of but #275998, the problem is very low volume, but not complete lack of sound input as in my case. b) In but #275998 people unanimously report problems in Intrepid. Some even say it came when Hardy was replaced by Interpid. In my case I have perfect out-of-the-box behavior in Intrepid c) The problem clearly seems to be related to Pulse. Many people got functionality back after removing Pulse. In my case the command dpkg --get-selections | grep -i pulse only gives one pulse-related package, libpulse0. So probably, pulse is not installed on my system. (Does KDE 4.2.1 not use pulse?) Jan: Are you able to do several subsequent suspend/resume cycles successfully? I have almost the same hardware than you (E6400 with GM45 and Intel 5300). My resume works perfect the first time. When I did it the second time, the touchpad did not work correctly. It behaved like it was in PS/2 emulation mode. However, there is very good news: I tried the patch that Matteo Collina suggested (thanks so much Matteo for finding this one!!!). I compiled a Hardy kernel, and it works! ALPS touchpad is correctly recognized. (it is listed in /proc/bus/input/devices). Also, after mapping the correct event in xorg.conf, and enabling SHMConfig, I am able to use synclient to change many touchpad settings. I successfully adjusted MinSpeed, MaxSpeed, AccelFactor. Vert and Horiz. scroll are working fine (after finding good numbers for RightEdge and BottomEdge). However, since I am new at kernel compiling, I also had some problems. Currently my system is running 2.6.24-21. The kernel I had compiled turned out to be a customized version of 2.6.24-3. The wireless card and NIC were not recognized, as in earlier Hardy versions (before 8.04.1). What did go wrong? Did I not install the correct source packages? No, it also does not work in Hardy. The situation looks exactly the same: device not present in /proc/bus/input/devices. Maybe this is interesting: if I run sudo tpconfig, I get the following output: Found Synaptics Touchpad. Firmware: 8.96 (multiple-byte mode). I cannot tell what this actually means. It sounds like the touchpad is recognized at some level. However, I cannot change any of the touchpad settings. For instance if I run sudo tpconfig -z4, to change the sensitivity, the command is syntactically recognized correctly. However, the value always remains at 6, as I get the following response: Z threshold: 6 of 7.. well, I'd say it's even worse: while I can start the new version of Dolphin in kde4 simply by typing dolphin (rather than dolphin-kde4 as before the update), I have no idea how to launch the kde4 version of Dolphin while running under kde3 *AT_ALL* !!! Am I missing something? Is there no more way to use kde4 apps in kde3? Does that make sense? If someone has an idea how to address this, please let me know. --hasi -- KDE4 Kickoff Icons No Longer Work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/189793 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 54776] Re: font hinting does not work with libfreetype6 v. 2.2.1
This is pretty annoying here (Kubuntu Gutsy/ OOo 2.3, too!) I found another thread covering this topic: https://bugs.launchpad.net/baltix/+source/openoffice.org/+bug/138493 I am back to wine/MS Office until it's fixed. I just realized it bothers me quite a bit! --hasi. -- font hinting does not work with libfreetype6 v. 2.2.1 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/54776 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 54776] Sorry, guys...
Sorry for the confusion, guys. I have been quite heavily using OOo and MS Word 2003 in parallel for a few weeks now (for several reasons). I could have sworn that the fonts look nicer in Word. When I was trying to prove it doing some snapshots, I found they practically look the same (see screenshot)! Now I am puzzled why that is. I actually am shocked facing the possibility that I may be positively biased for MS product... One difference may be that on my current settings, I have the minimal size for the AA in OOo to 1, whereas the AA seems to be switched off in my wine/MS Word settings for the smaller fonts. That may have caused my impression. Similarly, in my snapshot, the menus in Word are not AA'ed at all, whereas OOo does its not-so-perfect AA. I actually prefer no AA at all in that case! --hasi. ** Attachment added: Screenshot showing font rendering http://launchpadlibrarian.net/10280644/OOo%20--%20MS%20Word.png -- font hinting does not work with libfreetype6 v. 2.2.1 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/54776 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 138493] Re: No subpixel antialiasing in OOo
Gert: Sorry, I do not know how everything is connected here. Does upstream StarOffice 8 automatically mean it is going to be included into OOo at some point? Or are there even any public developer builds that already have this very cool feature? I am really hungry to get it! Thanks so much. --hasi. -- No subpixel antialiasing in OOo https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/138493 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 123696] Re: dependency problem on Kubuntu
Hey Panda_N_Shark, I have Kubuntu--anyway I went through quite a bit of pain until I had VPN up, so let me give it a try. What do you mean vpn connections don't show up? Does it mean the nm-applet does not show VPN Connections submenu? Or is there a menu but it is empty? If the latter is your problem: have you already put in the parameters for the vpn connection you want? Which program did you use? --hasi. -- dependency problem on Kubuntu https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/123696 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

same here on a freshly installed, official release version of kubuntu Gutsy, downloaded 2007-10-18. The workaround pointed out by nem75 nicely works. [Bug 72609] Re: K3b temporarily ejects disk before verification
I can confirm this problem for Kubuntu 7.04 on a Dell Latitude D620 Notebook. I find something I haven't seen reported in the previous postings: after the disk is finished, I get a window that asks me whether I want to re-load the disk. If I close in the CD tray manually and hit the load button, the verification kicks in normally. The problem is that this has to happen within a few seconds, otherwise K3b reports an error (No files to verify found on disk, or similar). I would be perfectly happy if that there was no time out, but K3b would wait for a manual decision from the user: whether to load the CD for verification or whether to cancel and skip verification. This should be fairly simple to implement. Just my 2 cents. --hasi. -- K3b temporarily ejects disk before verification https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/72609 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 138493] Re: No subpixel antialiasing in OOo
I notice the same problem with Kubuntu 7.04 (using libfreetype6/libcairo2/libxft2 packages) and OpenOffice 2.2: the fonts in almost all applications look perfect to me. However, in OOo, the font smoothing is of substantially lower quality. I can confirm that there is some font smoothing in OOo by turning the corresponding option off in OOo: it will get totally unsmoothed. As far as I can tell, this thread is about exactly this problem (let me know if not). However, I am not as knowledgeable as the previous two posters and thus do not really understand what their comments mean. My questions is: knowing what you told me, is there anything I can tweak in OOo (or the system) in order to get higher-quality visual experience in OOo?
