[Bug 1926903] [NEW] LO loses some functionality in the debian distro vs. Windows/Mac distro of same version

2021-05-02 Thread Mad Mouse
Public bug reported:

a few of the LO functions, such as autocorrect, while enabled, do not work
since the update to the 5.10 (and beyond) kernel. I have tried a fresh
install, after formatting the HDD, of ubuntu II (21.10) with defaults and
immediately tested the native LO install. the big presisted. It appears to
also affect other debian.arch distros, but does not affect windows/mac distros.
It is also "retroactive" and has broken the install of LO 6.4, which
previously worked fine.
since this package is included with the installer, i'm notifying you. LO
thinks it's a kernel issue.

[Bug 1906561] [NEW] grub-probe fails to recognize valid EXT4 partition

2020-12-02 Thread Nonny Mouse
Public bug reported:

I have 2 x 1TB SSD, each with 32G ext4 and about 900G btrfs in RAID1
configuration. The two ext4 partitions hold mirror image installations
of Ubuntu Server 20.04, intended as failovers to each other. The only
difference is that one has ea_inode and encrypt options while the other
does not. On the drive with these options grub-mkconfig fails with
unknown file system (in grub-probe) and attempting to re-boot fails,
dropping into grub recovery. This happens on both drives, if the
options are enabled, but boots normally without them.

Noticed the problem after an update to the kernel which, of course,
attempted to update grub.cnf, and also when I attempted to grub-install
on the drive with the options.

Knowing of a similar problem in os-probe about two years ago, I suspect
grub-probe is not recognizing these options in the file system itself,
and therefore not recognizing an ext4 file system.

I actually need these features . . .

[Bug 1745148] Re: tcsh core dumps upon entering non-ascii characters (e.g., §)

2019-05-03 Thread A. Nonny Mouse
tcsh's Char type is signed, but its input handling doesn't check for
negative values, such as those created when non-ASCII characters are
sign-extended. Attached is a patch that addresses the reported problem
(tested on 18.04). Fixing the bigger issue of unsafe signed type
promotion is left as an exercise for the reader.

[Bug 1164016] Re: restore type-ahead find

2018-09-04 Thread anonymous mouse
OK. So I was a happy user of 16.04. With a new computer in August, I
thought it would make sense to go with 18.04.

One of the biggest issues is this searching stuff in Nautilus. Why?
1. It is not instant (unlike the type/find ahead of Nautilus in 16.04). I
cannot type and then press enter and load the folder I want.
2. It is inconsistent with file dialogs (e.g. save or open) where find/type
ahead works as expected.
3. Often I just want to see the files and folders in relation to one another. I
might want to see the files starting with 'th', and being able to see the files
starting with 'te' and 'tg' before the ones starting with 'th' is often quite
useful.
4. There is no way that I can see to make it search only within the directory
and not recursively search all subdirectories. I don't like that.
5. And searching within subdirectories doesn't even work 100% of the time! E.g.
A search for a dot folder consistently doesn't turn it up.

Thank you Ubuntu developers for previously hiding this stupidity. Please
consider getting rid of it in 18.04 as well.

[Bug 1722076] [NEW] DejaVu Oblique variants not installed by default

2017-10-08 Thread anonymous mouse
Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS, new install (well, as of a few months ago),
italic/oblique variants just weren't installed by default. In some
programs this resulted in text not showing, in others it resulted in
those square boxes that indicate no font installed showing. The issue is
in fonts-dejavu-extra which apparently doesn't exist in Ubuntu, so I've
selected I don't know, even though I have a damn good idea.

The only way to fix this that I quickly found is to install the
"transitional dummy package" that "can be safely removed" ttf-dejavu-
extra. With this package installed, all the variants of DejaVu are
installed. With it removed, the problem occurs.

This package installs the extra font DejaVuSans-Oblique.ttf: "DejaVu
Sans" "Oblique".

I present the output of some commands to demonstrate the issue:

[Bug 1240940] Re: Need support for Realtek Wifi card rtl8723be [10ec:b723]

2015-02-20 Thread Peggys Mouse
No solution but here's the workaround that finally worked for me...
(Ubuntu 14.014 stock kernel)

Download the latest driver (you might have to install git first):
git clone http://github.com/lwfinger/rtlwifi_new.git

Change into the new directory you just created:
cd rtlwifi_new

Compile and install the new driver:
make
sudo make install

Edit the settings for the driver:
echo options rtl8723be fwlps=0 swlps=0 | sudo tee
/etc/modprobe.d/rtl8723be.conf

It's probably a good idea to take a look at that file to make sure that
worked. Some people say the swlps=0 part of the command above is
unnecessary. I'm not sure but it doesn't seem to be hurting anything.

Reboot.

2014-12-05 Thread Peggys Mouse
@paraplegic.racehorse did you also follow the instructions in #55? The
fix is not built in to the 3.16 kernel. Instuctions repasted below...

git clone http://github.com/lwfinger/rtlwifi_new.git
cd rtlwifi_new
make
sudo make install

[Bug 1240940] Re: Need support for Realtek Wifi card rtl8723be [10ec:b723]

2014-12-02 Thread Peggys Mouse
#55 worked for me. Ubuntu 14.04 3.13.0-40-generic. Ran torrents all
night which I haven't been able to do with this laptop's internal wifi
card.

In case others are confused by the mention in that comment about the
kernel headers, I believe you can safely run the following commad to
install them:

sudo apt-get install linux-headers-generic

If they are already installed, it won't hurt anything. Then just follow
with the rest of the commands in #55.

2014-09-21 Thread Peggys Mouse
That's great news.

Does the git repo below = the package with the kernel headers installed?

I.e. are the instructions below everything I need to do to install on a
stock Ubuntu 14.04 with the 3.13 kernel?

Thanks.

There is a new version of this driver at GitHub. You will need to have
the package with the kernel headers installed.

 git clone http://github.com/lwfinger/rtlwifi_new.git
 cd rtlwifi_new
 make
 sudo make install

This version of the driver will be submitted for inclusion in kernel
3.18. I ran it for 39 hours with no disconnects.

[Bug 1017125] Re: [SRU quantal] boost::unordered_multimap::erase(iterator, iterator) broken in boost1.49

2014-06-13 Thread anonymous mouse
I just had LibreOffice 3.5.7.2 Build ID: 350m1(Build:2) crash on me
with a document. The crash report said that bug 1067907 was the bug.
That bug says it is a duplicate of this bug. As such, I'm attaching the
relevant document here.

It's a docx that I opened in Abiword and then saved as a Abiword .doc
(which I think might be RTF actually, with merely a .doc extension).
But, it crashes LibreOffice. (The original .docx doesn't show up
correctly in either darn program, but the bit I'm interested in does
show up better in Abiword.)

I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 with Gnome 3.

[Bug 1311362] Re: Ubuntu Gnome 14.04 - NVidia 331 - OpenCL broken (using Darktable)

2014-05-29 Thread Porcelain Mouse
Thanks for reporting this The Bright Side, but this issue is much bigger
than darktable.

The fact that clinfo gives a weird error is a good indicator that this
is a very general problem, not related to any user-land programs. The
reason I found it (again, thanks) was that I have a problem with boinc-
client. As soon as I upgraded to 14.04, boinc-client stopped being able
to detect any OpenCL resources.

This is an OpenCL driver problem with the nVidia drivers.

I think this is link is relevent, which says to install nVidia drivers
manually:

https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/734098/linux/-boinc-ubuntu-
nvidia-no-usable-gpus-found-/

I'm just trying to figure out if that is worth doing or if Ubuntu folks
are going to fix it soon.

[Bug 1065490] Re: [Lenovo ThinkPad X230 Tablet 3434] total system freeze

2013-08-11 Thread anonymous mouse
Hi Christopher,
Unfortunately for this bug, I'm not willing to continue to use the 3.2.*
kernels at all (I've been happily using the 3.5.* kernels without any problems
for months now). Trying to track down this bug when I couldn't workout the
trigger, was an exercise in frustration. I still don't know the trigger, but
I'm not being frustrated by anything related to this bug any more (including
lack of sound from 3.6.*).

I hope you'll forgive me for not trying to track down the bug when
things are working for me.

Cheers.

[Bug 1065490] Re: total system freeze

2013-03-22 Thread anonymous mouse
Scott,
I'm using the 3.6 kernel, the generic one. I actually discovered that the
kernel I thought didn't have the problem (-35), did.
I still have no idea what caused the issue, and I'm no longer interested in
finding out (though I am interested in knowing). Not knowing how to trigger a
freeze, and having my system freeze randomly was really quite disruptive. And
I've got better things to do with my time. I haven't tried the latest 3.2
kernels, and I won't for that reason.
The only problem I've noticed with 3.6 is that sound through the internal
speakers doesn't work, I have to use headphones.

Out of interest, what software do you run that was running when the
freeze happened? (Above I mentioned that I had FreeCiv, Firefox and
Rhythmbox running, among other programs, when the freezes happened.)

[Bug 1065490] Re: total system freeze

2013-01-16 Thread anonymous mouse
I can confirm that this no longer appears to be an issue in
'3.2.0-35-generic', which is what I'm currently running. However, it was
still an issue in the previous kernel ('3.2.0-34-generic' I think). I
have been running -35 for a while now, and it's not had any problem,
even with the heavy workload I normally use. -34 froze almost
immediately when I started using it (I ran 3.6 because it didn't freeze,
but it had other issues...).

I'm changing the status to Fix Released, but accept if that's the
wrong status... (I didn't want to leave it as expired, as if it still
not solved.)

To jsalisbury, I didn't try that far upstream, but I think the answer is

[Bug 1065490] Re: total system freeze

2012-10-25 Thread anonymous mouse
Hi Joseph,
Unfortunately I had a number of problems with the RC1 kernel (sound stopping
working, apparently randomly, though my speakers, but working fine through
headphones, rebooting fixed the problem -- also a problem with the the 3.6
release; and problems booting being the main issues), and when I heard about
EXT4 problems I thought that I could not trust it, and so uninstalled it. If
the problems booting didn't exist, I wouldn't worry about the EXT4 problems,
but having to reboot two or three times to actually get a working login screen
made me worry.

When it was working, it didn't freeze the system, but as with the actual
3.6 release, that's no confirmation that it doesn't have the problem,
merely that I didn't encounter it. I still have no idea how to reproduce
the issue.

I'm currently on the latest 3.2 kernel which was updated recently. I can
confirm it still has the freezing problem.

I'm not sure what else to do. My Internet connection is quite poor
(developing country) and so downloading kernels again and again is not a
viable solution.

I can't be sure of course (as just because something hasn't happened
yet, doesn't mean it won't happen; and I don't know why the damn thing
happened in the first place so I can't reproduce the exact situation)
but it seems like the generic 3.6 kernel does not have the problem.

It seems to have another problem, that is my sound works fine, and then
for some reason stops... But that isn't related.

[Bug 1065490] Re: total system freeze

2012-10-14 Thread anonymous mouse
It happened again, this time after the system had gone to power saving
mode. I've now installed the newer 3.6 kernel ( and ma using it) and
will report back if there continues to be a problem.

[Bug 1065490] Re: total system freeze

2012-10-13 Thread anonymous mouse
I'll have a go. In the mean time, here's some more info. System froze
twice yesterday, and I went and saved some logs. Here's what I wrote
yesterday with some syslog extracts:

1st time:
Again it froze. This time there was no wireless on. I was listening to music
again, and reading a man doc in a terminal. Firefox, two different profiles,
FreeCiv, and maybe something else (I think Document Viewer, looking at a PDF).

I was using Deja Dup to make backup (the first, so it was taking a
rather long time) to an external HD. After the system froze, I noticed
that the indicator light on the HD had stopped blinking. Suggesting that
there was no more activity, and thus that the backup program had also
frozen or had been killed.

-
2nd time:
It froze again less than an hour after the last time. This time with just
FreeCiv, RhythemBox and DejaDup. 21:42 is what the clock said. I guess I also
have a bunch of other stuff (Apache, MySQL and PHP) running in the background.

I'm uninstalling indicator-cpufreq, though I doubt it's the problem.

--

OK, bizarre. I said the time said 21:42. Except that at around 22:05, I noticed
the time had jumped two hours forward! It was apparently now the 13, and the
time was 00:05. My clock is meant to be on network time, but the Internet has
been down most of the day, and I certainly haven't connected in the last 8
hours or so.

Interesting thing from the syslog from around the time of the problem:

Oct 12 23:57:58 Mayan-Pilot kernel: imklog 5.8.6, log source = /proc/kmsg

Here we see where the time has jumped forward. At 21:39 something
happened, the system froze about three minutes latter. Then, the time
jumps forward two hours. (Presumably after I had restarted the machine.)

[Bug 1065490] [NEW] total system freeze

2012-10-11 Thread anonymous mouse
Public bug reported:

This has happened a number of times now, the system has totally frozen.

Symtoms:
System does not respond to mouse.
System does not respond to keyboard (including ctrl-alt-del, ctrl-alt-backspace
(yes I renabled it in the keyboard settings) and Magic Sysrq (yes it's enabled,
and yes it works properly otherwise)).
If music is playing, it repeats the same part over again (the same few
milliseconds of sound).
If I plugin a network cable, and then attempt to ping the computer via what
should be the wired IP address (from another computer) I get a error
unreachable destination. (I have not tried to ping over the wireless network as
I haven't had the IP address for the problem machine. I've just recorded the
present address, and will try in the future. But because of DHCP, it might not
be the same address ...)

Things I've done:
Ran memtest (it's a new computer though, so it shouldn't be the problem...).
Looked in /var/log/syslog but can't see anything I recognize as bad.

I cannot determine a cause, and it is very frustrating to lose my work.

If you need anything else, please ask.

[Bug 1065490] Re: total system freeze

2012-10-11 Thread anonymous mouse
This is a new install on a new computer (older computer has 10.04 and
doesn't have the problem). I think it has happened virtually since I
installed this system in September. If I recall correctly (and my memory
maybe faulty), it happened once or twice in September. And at least
three times this month, twice in the last few days (the latest earlier
today which finally prompted me to report the bug).

The latest time was just after I had clicked Postpone break on the Dr
Wright typing break thing. But I don't think it's related.

[Bug 1030786] Re: Firefox 14 crashes randomly

2012-08-16 Thread anonymous mouse
i can't (obviously) comment for other people, but I may have discovered the
cause of my problems.
It turns out that many of my problems recently were probably caused by a ram
stick gone bad. So, I checked my ram only a couple of months ago (to rule it
out as the cause for another problem). Then I started having problems with
Ubuntu freezing up all together (like even ignoring the magic sysr

[Bug 1030786] Re: Firefox 14 crashes randomly

2012-08-16 Thread anonymous mouse
And I accidentally submitted the comment without finishing it.

Anyway, so with Ubuntu playing up generally, I checked my ram again,
found that the 2GB stick (two sticks, one 2GB and one 512MB) was bad. I
removed it, and the other problems stopped. I just thought today that
Firefox had also stopped crashing as well. It maybe related. (Funny that
it was only ever Firefox or the entire system that had a problem, and
that none of my other individual programs (including Evolution,
Rhythmbox, Abiword or LibreOffice) had a problem.)

Anyway, so maybe the cause of my problems was bad ram. I'll leave it
open as it affects others though. And I'll comment again if Firefox does
crash randomly again.

[Bug 1030786] [NEW] Firefox 14 crashes randomly

2012-07-30 Thread anonymous mouse
Public bug reported:

Since updating from 13 to 14, Firefox has been crashing randomly. I can not
detect a pattern at all.
In one case I had loaded profile three, and then clicked to the search bar, and
started typing, before it crashed. In the case before that, same profile, I had
loaded up three or four pages, and then it crashed.

This has happened on three different profiles, with three different sets of
addons and settings.
Profile one has multiple addons installed, including NoScript, RequestPolicy,
Brief (RSS reader), WebDeveloper Toolbar, Status-4-Evar and others.
Profile two has few addons, NoScript, Zotero, Status-4-Evar, and a couple of
others.
Profile three has no addons, and all plugins are disabled, and is configured to
start in Private Browsing mode by default.

I do radically different browsing in the three profiles, and so the
types of website are radically different.

Each time it crashes, the Mozilla Crash Detector starts up, and I have
generally been reporting the crashes.

apport has loads more information, in loads more detail, after this:

[Bug 1030786] Re: Firefox 14 crashes randomly

2012-07-30 Thread anonymous mouse
** Description changed:

- Since updating from 13 to 14, Firefox has been crashing randomly. I can not
detect a pattern at all.
- In one case I had loaded profile three, and then clicked to the search bar,
and started typing, before it crashed. In the case before that, same profile, I
had loaded up three or four pages, and then it crashed.

- This has happened on three different profiles, with three different sets of
addons and settings.
- Profile one has multiple addons installed, including NoScript, RequestPolicy,

I do radically different browsing in the three profiles, and so the

Each time it crashes, the Mozilla Crash Detector starts up, and I have
  generally been reporting the crashes.

[Bug 1008780] [NEW] pinentry-gtk-2 crashed with SIGSEGV in gdk_window_set_transient_for()

2012-06-04 Thread anonymous mouse
Public bug reported:

I went to send an email that was being signed. The message box popped up
wanting the password. I ignored it, and was trying to open TomBoy, but my
computer was wonky, and playing up. The mouse was moving about erratically as
it sometimes does (not sure why, but I suspect I have too many programs open).
Anyway, then I get a message from Apport that pinentry had crashed.
At first glance it is not related to #459620 or #737242 but I wouldn't
actually know.

[Bug 980687] [NEW] evince crashed with SIGSEGV in FcFontSetSort() (viewing properties)

2012-04-13 Thread anonymous mouse
Public bug reported:

I was viewing a PDF, went to view the properties, and then tried to
close the properties. The window manger asked me if I wanted to force
the close, I said wait. Later, Evince crashed. It maybe related to
#260715, but I doubt it.

Public bug reported:

I was viewing a website in Firefox without blocking JavaScript (I
normally use NoScript, but have a profile setup without it for some

Regarding LibreOffice, I didn't open the bug for LibreOffice. I don't
have LibreOffice installed. I am not interested in LibreOffice at this
stage. I just want OOo, which is what comes with the current Ubuntu LTS
to work as it worked in 9.10. Which is to say, not crashing after
hibernate!

This bug report is one automatically submitted by Apport, If there is
further information needed, please explain to me what it is, and how to
get it. I'll note that others have had the same or similar problem (as
referenced in the bug report I linked to initially).

[Bug 785005] Re: soffice.bin crashed with SIGSEGV in __kernel_vsyscall() after hibernate

2011-09-15 Thread anonymous mouse
So this makes OOo almost unusable for me you know? I would have thought
that it was at least medium.

I would appreciate an explanation as to why this has been changed to low
priority and marked won't fix when I'm using the LTS Ubuntu, and OOo is
what comes with LTS.

I'm not interested in upgrading to a later version of Ubuntu. I'm not
really interested in switching to LibreOffice at this time, but it seems
that I'll have to, just to see if it is more usable than OOo!

Please explain why it's won't fix, and what you need to change your
mind.

[Bug 785005] Re: soffice.bin crashed with SIGSEGV in __kernel_vsyscall() after hibernate

2011-08-23 Thread anonymous mouse
Just wanted to mention that OOo will crash even if no documents are opened.
That is, I close all documents, but not OOo, and then hibernate. I
un-hibernate, and try to make a new document, OOo will crash.

I assume it's the same problem as before (though the couple of times
I've done it, apport hasn't offered to file a bug, so I've got no
stacktrace or anything).

I removed 'temporary file /var/spool/cups/tmp/.hplip' and restarted,

[Bug 782627] Re: wifi enable/disable switch doesn't work anymore

2011-05-23 Thread Mason Mouse
Same issue with a clean install of 11.04 on a Dell Inspiron 1521 except
the wireless network card won't come on at all and the switch only
returns the can't emulate rawmode for keycode 240 error. I'm only able
to use the wired port. The BIOS allows the switch to control a single or
multiple communications device (Bluetooth, wifi or cellular) or none at
all. None of the settings seem to have any effect on the state of the
network card.

Well, I guess it's nothing to do with Zotero. Using the Extension
Manager I disabled Zotero, and hibernated the machine some time later. I
just get back now, try to use OOo, and it crashed. I just confirmed that
Zotero had been disabled.

2011-05-19 Thread anonymous mouse
Unfortunately I can't install LibreOffice without first uninstalling
OOo, and I'm not interested in doing that at this stage.

The only plugin I have (besides mailmerge.py) is Zotero, which is
installed as a Firefox plugin
http://www.zotero.org/support/word_processor_plugin_installation_for_zotero_2.1.

After today I will disable the plugin and continue using OOo as
normally, and see if that affects anything.

[Bug 507061] Re: Open office crash after hibernate

2011-05-18 Thread anonymous mouse
This month I upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04 'cause support was ending 'n'
stuff. OpenOffice.org now crashes without fail after hibernation when I
try and edit stuff (just like ignoble wrote on 2011-01-07). I can close
all open documents first, without a problem and then reopen them. But
that would defeat the purpose of hibernation.

After the crash, a file with a name similar to hs_err_pid1826.log
(attached) is created in my home directory.

That file seems to indicate that it is a Java problem.

I am running the most up to date version of everything available for
10.04

[Bug 507061] Re: Open office crash after hibernate

2011-05-18 Thread anonymous mouse
Except that it didn't. I changed my /etc/default/apport file as requested:
# set this to 0 to disable apport, or to 1 to enable it
# you can temporarily override this with
# sudo service apport start force_start=1
enabled=1

# set maximum core dump file size (default: 209715200 bytes == 200 MB)
maxsize=209715200

I then opened two documents, and hibernated my machine. I checked a
couple other programs (Evolution and Firefox), and then went to edit one
of the documents. A few chars in and OOo crashes. This time it didn't
leave a hs_err_pid.log file. There is also nothing in the /var/crash
folder.

I shall hibernate again later, and try again to see whether that creates
anything. Next time I'll also get some screenshots.

[Bug 507061] Re: Open office crash after hibernate

2011-05-18 Thread anonymous mouse
This is repeatable.

I open a couple of OOo documents (odt, docx, ods). I'm running a number
of other programs, including Firefox, Evolution and Rhythmbox. I
hibernate the computer.

I wake the computer up, and use Firefox a bit, and then go to edit one
of the open OOo documents. A few key strokes in, it crashes.

Attached is a screen grab of the window that appeared the last time I
did the above (just a few minutes ago).

As per the last comment, there is nothing in /var/crash and again this
time, a log file wasn't created in my home directory.

2010-04-11 Thread mouse
Public bug reported:

by using the Ubuntu ID users will be able to mark and find (on a map)
wifi locations, so they (or someone else) could access the internet as
fast as possible.

the access will be tagged automatically as:
1. free no sing in
2. locked
3. need to sing in
...
make it possible to access this feature from network manager GUI

since Canonical is pushing the cloud and the social this is a great
feature.

here is a similar idea http://www.wefi.com/
i think there are several applications that do this on linux

[Bug 148084] Re: totem-like/firefox-like plugin installer for file-roller

2010-04-04 Thread mouse
I think this bug already being fixed by GNOME 2.30

from the GNOME 2.30 Release Notes:
File Roller will install the necessary packages using PackageKit if an
archive you are trying to open does not have the correct archive support
installed.

http://library.gnome.org/misc/release-notes/2.30/ 3.9

can anyone confirm this ?

[Bug 490154] Re: orage aborts when Today view is selected

2010-02-07 Thread Porcelain Mouse
Yes, when I originally reported this bug, it happened every time. It no
longer occurs, however. I've been avoiding this feature since I
reported this problem, so I cannot say when it was fixed. But, it's
definitely gone. I can open the Today view reliably, now.

[Bug 493021] [NEW] gnusound crashes immediately on startup: *** buffer overflow detected ***: /usr/bin/gnusound.real terminated

2009-12-05 Thread Porcelain Mouse
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnusound

I just installed gnusound, but it immediately fails when started from
the command line or menu. It *does not* kill or crash XWindows,
however, as reported by several others. I noticed this problem back in
Hardy Heron, I think, and it still hasn't been fixed. Unlike before,
however, I have to kill the process; it doesn't completely die on it's
own. Seems like the problem is getting worse, not better. I'm not sure
what happen to crash files, they must be disabled now-a-days, but I
would produce one if required. Here is the STDERR data:

[Bug 173350] Re: Caps lock LED changes state even when caps lock is mapped to ctrl

2009-11-16 Thread anonymous mouse
This is still an issue for me.
I'm running 8.04 (up to date) on a HP DV 1700 series laptop. When I use the GUI
to swap the ctrl and caps keys, the key marked caps lock is still the only
one that is triggering the LED. Actually, I ran the command

xmodmap -e clear lock -e add lock = Caps_Lock

as suggested above, and that has fixed it for now (yet to restart).

On another computer running 9.10 (no way am I putting that on my laptop,
I'm sticking with what I *know* works), the problem does not occur.
(And, previously, running, I think it was 7.10 on my laptop, it didn't
occur either.)

If the xmodmap command sticks after restarting, I'll edit this.
Otherwise I'll try other suggestions in the thread and comment on them
too.

[Bug 173350] Re: Caps lock LED changes state even when caps lock is mapped to ctrl

2009-11-16 Thread anonymous mouse
It doesn't stick. But, rather than mess around with config files, I've got
another work around. Put the command:
xmodmap -e clear lock -e add lock = Caps_Lock
into the sessions thingy (System- Preferences - Sessions - Add, the name is
whatever, the command is the one above etc.).

Also after switching through the GUI, but before running the xmodmap
command, ctrl-alt-backspace has to use the 'real' ctrl key. ctrl-alt-
arrow (to switch desktops) has to use the 'new' (formally caps) ctrl
key.

After running the xmodmap command, the 'new' ctrl key works for
everything.

make it more easy to work with files by right click on a filesoftware store,
when the software store is open , the user will see recommended applications
that can work with his file format

to do that you will need to tag applications by what formats they
support.

i found an old project that i think can help
http://sourceforge.net/projects/file-opener/
