[Bug 1916314] Re: HP Spectre x360 14-ea0xxx Tiger Lake Keyboard does not work until ~30-60 seconds after boot
Wanted to pop in and mention I've encountered this same issue on several HP Spectre devices, on some of which the current workaround doesn't seem to work (as of kernel version 5.13.10). I've put together a DKMS build of the patched module for people to use until this can be upstreamed or included as a patch in various distributions. https://github.com/berzoidberg/i8042-spectre-dkms -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1916314 Title: HP Spectre x360 14-ea0xxx Tiger Lake Keyboard does not work until ~30-60 seconds after boot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1916314/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 514485] Re: kernel lockup when plugging in USB stick
Ok... Installed Ubuntu 9.10 (i.e. with Gnome) on a 5GB partition I had. No freeze so far. Also did a few tests on Windows XP and no freezes. Is it possible that this problem is caused by KDE? Another thing I noticed was this bug message in dmesg: = [ 11.096177] EDAC amd64: This node reports that Memory ECC is currently disabled. [ 11.096181] EDAC amd64: bit 0x40 in register F3x44 of the MISC_CONTROL device (:00:18.3) should be enabled [ 11.096183] EDAC amd64: WARNING: ECC is NOT currently enabled by the BIOS. Related bug reports: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/471814 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/422536 Note: It turns out the Ubuntu kernel comes with soft-lockup detection enabled, so recompiling is unnecessary. At least "make menuconfig" showed it as enabled in the source gotten through apt-get. Still, if recompiling with certain changes or settings is necessary, I'm willing to do it. I just have absolutely no idea what to change or test right now. ** Attachment added: "dmesg output after freeze and reboot" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/42407416/dmesg.log -- kernel lockup when plugging in USB stick https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/514485 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 514485] Re: kernel lockup when plugging in USB stick
Things have changed: The magic sysrq keys now work when the system freezes! I can now reboot with REISUB. Any ideas how I can take advantage of the sysrq keys to unfreeze the system or at least get more debugging info? I removed almost all *gnome* packages. Don't know if it has anything to do with it. Maybe I should do more tests with Ubuntu Gnome or Windows to see if it happens there as well (hasn't been the case so far). I also opened the PC to have a look at the connections. They seem to be OK. The motherboard is a GIGABYTE GA-MA74GM-S2H. The front USB ports are connected over some 9-pin connectors. I'm adding some screenshots of the system. I noticed that there were only 2 connectors on the motherboard for the 4 front USB ports (which all work when the system does not freeze) and they were on the "F_USB ports" 3 and 4, while 1 and 2 were empty. Does this matter? ** Attachment added: "motherboard and pc screenshots" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/42153077/PC.tar.gz -- kernel lockup when plugging in USB stick https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/514485 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Still random lockups when plugging in USB stick. There are 4 USB slots on the motherboard and 4 in the front, with mic and aux connectors. I haven't checked how it's connected inside the PC yet. Lockup also happened with a 1GB "Trekstor USB Stick SE". Seems to happen most often when I use the front USB slots, but also happened at least once with one in the back (i.e. one directly on the motherboard). [Bug 514485] [NEW] kernel lockup when plugging in USB stick
Public bug reported: I have a USB stick which sometimes causes the kernel to completely lock up when I plug it in on my desktop PC. I noticed (but haven't strictly verified it yet) that it seems to happen whenever I used the USB stick on a windows machine before. When it happens, all I can do is a hard reboot. [Bug 503485] [NEW] kernel lockup on resume
Public bug reported: Hi, Suspend to RAM has never worked on my laptop (suspend to disk works) and I would really like to help fix this issue. When I try to resume, I always get a black screen and the kernel seems to be locked up: caps-lock key has no effect, ctrl+alt+del and sysrq keys not working. I have to keep the power button pressed to shut down the machine. According to this page: http://en.opensuse.org/S2ram "If none of the methods described here seem to work, it is important to check if the machine is completely dead on resume or only the video is not resumed properly. A good way to check this is to start with a minimal system (init=/bin/bash), run s2ram -f, and after resume, when the display is still off, check if the "Caps Lock" key still works (you should see a reaction of the Caps Lock LED on the keyboard). If it does, it is most likely really a video initialization problem. If it doesn't, then it is most likely a BIOS problem or a bug in the Linux kernel." I did this and since the caps lock key is not working, I'm assuming it's a BIOS or kernel problem. (I did try the different s2ram options too a while ago, but nothing worked). I then tried to use pm_trace as described here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspend I attached the resulting dmesg.txt to this e-mail. Here is some more system info: == [30][~]$ lsb_release -a No LSB modules are available. If you report a problem, please include the complete output above. == I also attached the output of "sudo lspci -vvvxxx". I'm willing to recompile the kernel if necessary, but I'm not sure where to begin. Could somebody please guide me in debugging this issue? Of course any direct solution to the resume problem is also appreciated. :) ProblemType: Bug Architecture: i386 ArecordDevices: List of CAPTURE Hardware Devices card 0: A5451 [ALI 5451], device 0: ALI 5451 [ALI 5451] Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 AudioDevicesInUse: USERPID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC0: mike 1463 F pulseaudio CRDA: Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory Card0.Amixer.info: Card hw:0 'A5451'/'ALI 5451 at 0x1000, irq 5' Mixer name : 'Conexant Cx20468 rev 1,Conexant Cx20468 rev 1' Components : 'AC97a:43585429 AC97m:43585429' Controls : 25 Simple ctrls : 18 Date: Tue Jan 5 19:47:07 2010 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.10 HibernationDevice: RESUME=UUID=3790e926-6eac-4646-995e-794e4d3bc274 Lsusb: Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub Bus 002 Device 002: ID 0458:003a KYE Systems Corp. [Bug 326640] [NEW] Wishlist: Ubuntu package contents search plugin
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: firefox-3.0 As suggested by Tom, I'm posting my question as a bug report with "Wishlist" in the title. cf here for original question: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox-3.0/+question/53260 = Firefox on Ubuntu seems to come with a search plugin to search for packages on packages.ubuntu.com. It would be nice and even more practical to have a search plugin to search package contents. There used to be one on mycroft that worked, but it stopped working a while ago. I created a new working one today: http://mycroft.mozdev.org/developer/devlist.html?email=zohn.joidberg%40gmail.com&dpsubmit=Go I wasn't sure wether to post this feature request as a bug on launchpad or an idea on brainstorm.ubuntu.com. It seems the other search plugin (/usr/lib/firefox-addons/searchplugins/debsearch.src) is from the firefox-3.0 package, so I hope I'm asking at the right place. :) ** Affects: firefox-3.0 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Wishlist: Ubuntu package contents search plugin https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/326640 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 124704] Re: ccsm crashed with AttributeError in CheckActionConflicts()
No, no more crash. As for the "Kate not reponding after activating fire painting", I can only reproduce it once after every reboot (logging in/out or deactivating/reactivating compiz doesn't work). Minimizing and maximizing the Kate window makes it work again, so it's not such a big problem. -- ccsm crashed with AttributeError in CheckActionConflicts() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/124704 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 124704] Re: ccsm crashed with AttributeError in CheckActionConflicts()
I managed to reproduce the problem again, but only once. Firefox still worked, but Kate was unusable again. After minimizing+maximizing the Kate window, it worked again. After that, I wasn't able to reproduce the issue again, despite having logged out and in again, disabling/reenabling desktop effects. I'll post again if I find a way to reliably reproduce the bug (maybe I can reproduce it after rebooting... :/ ). Sorry for the delay. It got lost in all the bug-related mails I got. :/ As I pointed out in the original bug report, it was another user who had this problem, so I can't confirm whether it's solved now or not. I sent him a PM through the forums to ask him to test the latest version. However, I think it's ok to close the bug for the moment. But my main question remains: Why is there no text installation mode available (like the one from the alternate install CD)? I haven't tried the Intrepid Live CD yet (continuous upgrade), so I don't know if it does offer one. -- Black screen with 1x PowerColor x800GT graphics card https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/164275 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Sorry for the delay. Bug report mails get moved to a special folder for me and I don't always look at them. It's been a long time since I last used SagCAD and I don't remember exactly what steps led to the crash. I even had to figure out how to add a distance dimension again. Ah yes, I forgot to mention I'm using Intrepid without compiz. The bug doesn't appear for me in that case. Re: [Bug 194979] Re: "Home Folder" keyboard shortcut does not work
Solution 1: 1)System->Preferences->Keyboard->Layout->Other options Alt/Win key behaviour: Select "Meta is mapped to the Win-keys" 2)System->Preferences->Keyboard shortcuts Select "Home folder" and press the desired key combination. It should show "Mod4+E" for win+E for example. Solution 2: 1)Run "gconf-editor" 2)Navigate to "/apps/metacity/global_keybindings" Change the value of "run_command_1" to "E" 3)Navigate to "/apps/metacity/keybinding_commands" Change the value of "command_1" to "nautilus" (This will only work if Alt/Win key behaviour is set to "Default" or "Super is mapped to Win-keys". See solution 1 and adapt as necessary.) Solution 3 (Same as previous by command-line): gconftool-2 --type string --set /apps/metacity/global_keybindings/run_command_1 'E' gconftool-2 --type string --set /apps/metacity/keybinding_commands/command_1 'nautilus' P.S: I incidentally just discovered another gconf entry of interest while searching for the command-line syntax: /apps/panel/global/menu_key http://docsun.cites.uiuc.edu/sun_docs/C/solaris_9/SUNWgndoc/GNOMEADMIN/p5.html Very interesting. :) -- "Home Folder" keyboard shortcut does not work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/194979 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 235954] [NEW] Yelp crashes regularly or keeps loading indefinitely.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: yelp Yelp crashes regularly or keeps loading indefinitely. I managed to identify three reproducible crashes. It is possible that these crashes are due to bad links in the documentation since unlike the other links, the ones which cause crashes seem to be of the form "file://...". Link examples: == 1)Non-working links: "Learning how to program" link: file:/usr/share/gnome/help/programming/C/programming.xml#_auto-gen-id-1 Note: Running it from command-line works: $yelp file:/usr/share/gnome/help/programming/C/programming.xml#_auto-gen-id-1 2)Working link, but causes "double free or corruption" crash if clicked after copying link address: "Advanced topics" link: file:///usr/share/gnome/help/advanced-topics/C/advanced-topics.xml 3)Working link example: "Writing your own programs" link: ghelp:programming Crash #1: = 1)Start yelp: $yelp 2)Click on "advanced topics" 3)Click on "Writing your own programs" 4)Click on "Learning how to program" Now it keeps "loading..." indefinitely for me. 5)Click on "Learning how to program" again (or any other link actually, even the home button), while it is still loading. That's where it crashes for me with the following message: "** ** Yelp:ERROR:(yelp-document.c:275):yelp_document_cancel_page: assertion failed: (document != NULL && YELP_IS_DOCUMENT (document)) Aborted" Crash #2: = 1)Start yelp: $yelp 2)Click on "advanced topics" 3)Click on "Writing your own programs" 4)Right-click on "Learning how to program" and select "copy link address" 5)Click on "Learning how to program" again (left or right) That's where it crashes with the following message: "*** glibc detected *** yelp: double free or corruption (!prev): 0x09a29080 ***" I attached the full backtrace in backtrace_crash2.log. Crash #3 (similar to crash #2): === 1)Start yelp: $yelp 2)Right-click on "advanced topics" and select "copy link address" 3)Click on "advanced topics" again (left or right) That's where it crashes with the following message: "*** glibc detected *** yelp: double free or corruption (fasttop): 0x08868aa8 ***" I attached the full backtrace in backtrace_crash3.log. Re: [Bug 124704] Re: ccsm crashed with AttributeError in CheckActionConflicts()
I completely forgot about this bug. But I just tried again and now it's more interesting: After setting shift+super+F to initiate fire painting, the key combination works to activate fire painting (it draws a single dot since it's not dependent on mouse movement). However, after using it all open windows became partially responsive (except ccsm). For example, in this case, kate and firefox were open. I couldn't select any text in them or move up and down. I could use the menu in Kate to create a new document, but the new document didn't show up. I could click on other tabs or create a new tab in firefox, but it still displayed the same page, while the text in the title bar changed. Switching between windows worked. The applications/places/system menu worked too. I made another test using the default binding for initiate (shift+super+mouse1) and obtained the same results: painting fire partially disables other windows. Both were with and without clearing the fire paint. After deactivating desktop effects, the windows were usable again. However, I would like to note that I currently have a not so clean system. I allready upgraded to Intrepid and the latests upgrades I made through synaptic forced me to remove a lot of packages and sound is not working anymore for example: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/229266 On Sun, May 11, 2008 at 4:52 PM, Sebastian Rode <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make > Ubuntu better. The volume applet seems to work correctly for me now. (Bug#136837: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-applets/+bug/136837). However, I still have problems using the special keys on the side of the laptop to change volume. When I use the lower volume key, the volume bar (which gets displayed in the middle of the screen) goes to zero completely, but the volume is only lowered a bit in reality. -- [GUTSY] Regression - Volume Control using gnome panel applet and keyboard shortcut alternates mute / % volume during sliding https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/126333 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

It's working! :) I currently have those installed: xserver-xorg-video-ati1:6.7.197-1ubuntu1 xserver-xorg 1:7.2-5ubuntu13 libc6 2.7-5ubuntu2 And my screen works correctly. I didn't even have to change my xorg.conf. Direct rendering works too. Desktops effects still can't be enabled (beryl used to work) and I still have some graphical glitches in some openGL games and screenlets with black borders. But I'm not sure if those problems are related to the driver. To upgrade to the new ATI driver, I just replaced gutsy with hardy in the sources.list and upgraded the 3 mentioned packages without doing a full dist-upgrade. [Bug 164275] Black screen with 1x PowerColor x800GT graphics card

I downloaded 7.1 I grabbed the 64 bit version and wasn't sure if that was the right decision or not. Basically I burned the ISO onto a CD, ran the CD in windows and then rebooted, changing the BIOS to load from CD before loading from an hdd. When I selected install / run it spools the progress bar then the screen switches to a screen that flashes too quickly for me to be able to read it (like some BIOS screens) then my monitor goes black. The computer is still on, but I have an amber light on the monitor. It momentarily says no signal on the monitor before it goes to the black screen w/ the amber light by the way. When I tried to verify the CD it did the exact same thing. I tried switching around how I had the hdd's connected to the mobo and had the same issues." It didn't even boot into the safe graphics mode. The user then installed Mandriva Linux which worked. Does the Ubuntu Live CD come with the ATI proprietary drivers or not? How is it possible that the safe graphics mode doesn't work if the loading bar is correctly displayed? I'm not sure if posting this here as a bug was the right thing to do, but I think that not even being able to use the Live CD in safe graphics mode is a big problem.
