[Bug 221363] Re: Policy Kit Unlock Buttons Greyed Out when using NX
The problem with PolicyKit is that it don't alow a remote session to have privileges. I already filled a bug while hacking the solution at https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16510. SSH creates a remote session. NX don't creates a session (my solution creates a session on ConsoleKit, set active and set local). To PolicyKit work you must have to be in a valid ConsoleKit session. ConsoleKit uses the environment variable XDG_SESSION_COOKIE like: $ echo $XDG_SESSION_COOKIE f493e0b30e554108c3114c0046ffd1d0-1214412029.846197-1968504223 You can see ConsoleKit sessions executing: $ ck-list-sessions Session1: uid = '1000' realname = 'Marcelo,,,' seat = 'Seat1' session-type = '' active = TRUE x11-display = ':0' x11-display-device = '/dev/tty7' display-device = '' remote-host-name = '' is-local = TRUE on-since = '2008-06-25T16:40:29Z' So if you don't set a active=TRUE and is-local=TRUE session on ConsoleKit PolicyKit won't work. -- Policy Kit Unlock Buttons Greyed Out when using NX https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/221363 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 184600] Re: ssb error while loading wifi module b43
I have found only two things that work correctly for my BCM4311/12 (rev 02). One is ndiswrapper 0.52/0.53 (newer than the 0.50 available in Ubuntu packages) with the drivers found from HP/Compaq as SP36684A. The second is the wireless-compat-2.6.26 patch. I am interested in learning how to take the work done in the wireless- compat-2.6.26 (replacement modules for all the wireless drivers they support), and create dpkgs available to the Ubuntu universe (community) repositories. Effectively, there could be a wireless- compat-2.6.26-modules_arch_2.6.24-abi#-ubunturev# package for each architecture, kernel, and abi containing the compiled replacement driver modules, as well as a meta-package with a simple name like wireless- compat, that always keeps the correct replacement/compatibility modules installed in case of a kernel upgrade or an abi bump. Since the compatibility patch works for kernels as old as 2.6.20, older versions of Ubuntu could even be supported (at least Gutsy, maybe Fiesty, Edgy, or Dapper). I'm more interested in learning how to create the packages, dependencies, documentation, etc., and learning how to upload them to the repositories and become a package maintainer, then I am somebody else doing it. Especially since the modules would have built in obsolescence (they would no longer be needed for any version of Ubuntu with the 2.6.26 kernel or higher). If I am able to pull that off, it might even make sense to make packages with the required (extracted) firmwares for Broadcom cards, and get it available in the Medibuntu repositories, but that is a lot less important, since it is not that painful to do. But back to the point. This is a confirmation that the new wireless- compat patch that came out on 06-25 works well on Hardy Heron (no problems so far anyway). I removed my ndiswrapper drivers (moved /etc/ndiswrapper and /etc/modprobe.d/ndiswrapper to folder in my home directory so they could ndiswrapper would not be able to load, but I preserving my settings because I can always move them back). I unblacklisted ssb and b43, and ran all of the following from the extracted archive: sudo make # builds the compatibility modules sudo make install sudo make load sudo update-initramfs -u -k all -v Of course, the extracted firmwares available by running b43-fwcutter are still required to be installed, build-essentials are needed, as well as the linux-headers package, but all that is par for the course by now. Can somebody point me in the right direction as far as learning the required steps to create these repository based packages? This way, anyone using a broadcom and the compat-wireless pack, can be assured that they will have the new modules with each kernel and abi bump. :) -- ssb error while loading wifi module b43 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/184600 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 206255] Re: System lockup on use of PCI7420 Cardbus Controller
I believe I am experiencing the same or similar problem with Ubuntu v8.04 Hardy running on a Dell Inspiron 710m with the TI PCI7420. The system locks if either an SD or MMC card is inserted in the on-board slot. I have the Issue currently with 2.6.24-19, but this behavior is identical to what I experienced with -18, -17, -16, and one release prior. Insertion of a 16mB MMC card displays a Canon icon on the desktop before the system locks; insertion of a SanDisk 2Gb SD card locks the system within two seconds. Only a power off-power on sequence will recover. No information appears to be recoverable from the locked system, but either card can be inserted while watching a root terminal in recovery mode, and error messages can be seen flying past, but not read. The system can be continued to a normal boot *if* the card is removed first; otherwise, the system will lock in the root terminal. I saved the dmesg contents after two such continued boot sequences and attached them below along with the device identification (at the bottom) from lspci. I hope this is useful despite being a complete novice to Ubuntu and Linux, hoping to learn enough to avoid Vista when this machine finally dies. The card reader is the only device that thus far hasn't worked. [Bug 219630] Re: please add geode to driver list in hw/xfree86/common/xf86AutoConfig.c
I'm not happy to see the debian build system changes in the -nsc SRU; they should be almost entirely irrelevant, but in the process they still introduce a risk of regression. This is not something that should ever be included in an SRU, and if I approve it it's only because I feel I'm wasting my time trying to get a minimal diff when this point has already been made to no avail, and we might as well accept the package into -proposed and regression-test it there. Given the late landing, therefore, I believe this SRU should be held until after 8.04.1 is buildable from hardy-updates only. BTW, it's also very confusing to have a patch which changes, and then /comments out/ a line; it took me far too long to parse this: -+ awk '/^#define.*PCI_CHIP/ {print $$3}' ${srcdir}/nsc_driver.c | sed -e 's/0x/1078/' nsc.ids -+ awk '/^#define.*PCI_CHIP/ {print $$3}' ${srcdir}/nsc_driver.c | sed -e 's/0x/100B/' nsc.ids ++ awk '/^#define.*PCI_CHIP/ {print $$3}' ${srcdir}/nsc_driver.c | sort -u | grep -v 0030 | sed -e 's/0x/100B/' nsc.ids ++# awk '/^#define.*PCI_CHIP/ {print $$3}' ${srcdir}/nsc_driver.c | sort -u | grep -v 0030 | sed -e 's/0x/1078/' nsc.ids because I kept overlooking the '#' at the beginning of that line... Since this changes which driver is being used for a set of chips, which AIUI aren't unsupported by nsc they're just supported better by the cyrix driver, SRU validation needs to include feedback from users of these precise chips. (Ideally, the SRU justification would also include explicit pointers to the problems with using the nsc driver instead of the cyrix driver, which AFAICS is completely absent here.) This also contributes to making this an inappropriate change to include at the last minute before 8.04.1. -- please add geode to driver list in hw/xfree86/common/xf86AutoConfig.c https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/219630 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 126797] Re: gdm spawns a new X server when told to restart the system
We still have this problem. It is especially apparent for us because we have 25 machines running folding that students use and sometimes reboot into Windows. Folding slows the logout process significantly, and during this time gdm comes back up and you can log in, however, the machine is still in the process of logging out and when it finishes roughly 90 seconds later it reboots, regardless of whether someone has logged in or not. [Bug 243051] [NEW] OpenOffice Writer crashes with STDERR Logic error 3
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: openoffice.org-writer I have a simple document open in Writer, a two-column table with about 30 rows. Disregard the work around in the previous message. Further testing shows that Shutdown will work normally if I select Shutdown soon after booting up and without starting Firefox. [Bug 219630] Re: please add geode to driver list in hw/xfree86/common/xf86AutoConfig.c
Steve, I have kept the diff as small as humanely possible. This being said, fixing both packaging issues and hardware issues within the scope of the same SRU has not been easy. My apologies if it's still too big to fit the constraints of an SRU. One important thing to keep in mind is to avoid PCI ID conflicts in X.org at all cost. Right now, we have some in 8.04.0 and they prevent LTSP from operating normally with any Geode hardware covered by any of those 3 drivers. Given this, waiting until until 8.04.2 to fix this is out of the question. Instead, we need to find a compromise that is mutually acceptable to everyone, to get this into 8.04.1 now, especially given how we need to get all 3 changes in at the same time, because of versioned Conflicts present in 2 of the 3 packages (xserver-xorg-video-all, xserver-xorg- video-geode, xserver-video-nsc) I proposed for this SRU. I suppose that I could revert the Debian build system changes made by Brice Goglin, but I feel uneasy doing so, because the Debian XSF scripts are a real mess that I simply cannot work with. I'll instead trust that Brice made his changes right and accept them verbatim, minus one small change to make this build on Hardy dependencies. I welcome your thoughts on any last- minute change that the Ubuntu X team or myself could implement to make this more acceptable for this SRU. As for hardware testing, I have only access to hardware covered by NSC and GEODE drivers. The above fix restores the operation on those. I unfortunately don't have access to CYRIX hardware. -- please add geode to driver list in hw/xfree86/common/xf86AutoConfig.c https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/219630 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 184711] Re: network-admin error: The interface does not exist
Jan: From what I can tell this bug is definitely about network-admin. [Bug 237649] Re: [nautilus] Invisible text when renaming files on a dark theme
The theme: Clearlooks! (As you can read in comment 4) Quote: It's the same if I use Clearlooks as in /usr/share/themes/Clearlooks/. [http://launchpadlibrarian.net/15069185/ClearlooksBildschirmfoto.png] Previously - at the time of reporting -, I was using UbuntuClearlooks, but comment 3 I found out that this was no official theme. So this bug rather be about Clearlooks. How to trigger: 0) Make sure you are using nautilus, Clearlooks and a dark theme with dark and light colors as depicted in the attachement. 1) In nautilus, switch to icon view (if that's how the non-list-view is called in English). 2) Select a file 3) Open the context menu and chose Rename In other words: It happens every time you rename any file with nautilus using Clearlooks with dark theme colors except for in nautilus' list view. Expected: The selected part of the file name (before the last dot) is either white or black (or any other color chosen in the appearance settings) with a colored background. The non selected part of the file name is expected to be black (as defined in the settings), since the nautilus window has a white background. Actual result: Since nautilus seems to think that its background (window content) is dark (like the rest of the 3d-elements like toolbar, buttons etc.), it choses white as text color for all text. Therefore, only selected text is visible. ** Attachment added: Bildschirmfoto-Thema anpassen.png http://launchpadlibrarian.net/15607026/Bildschirmfoto-Thema%20anpassen.png -- [nautilus] Invisible text when renaming files on a dark theme https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/237649 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
