Danilo needs to fix the issue in Rosetta (few days), then we might be lucky and the strings don't need to get reimported into Rosetta (otherwise that would be another 2 days or so), then the updated packages have to be exported and uploaded (1 day) and then they usually stay in a special repository for about a week until it's proven that they actually fix the issue (and don't cause regressions) following which they will be moved to the actual updates repository. So I guess we are facing anything between a couple of days and 2 weeks. Is a bug report about the KTurtle issues around? I find it concerning that official KDE applications don't get enough testing from the Kubuntu community to find such issues before a release, especially considering that KTurtle probably was broken all along, since the partial translation packages only got a created a few days before release of 8.10 (i.e. 6 months of brokenness without anyone noticing). We definitely need to do something about that. About Rosetta: There is no reason for _re_processing. Still it is happening and the Kubuntu team members who will be attending the Ubuntu Developer Summit in December are going to discuss this in deep. It's not just the possibility of reprocessing already translated strings but other thins that contribute to the awkward status of localization in Kubuntu. The current plan is to aggregate a list of shortcomings and issues in Rosetta, which should be taken care of in order to make everyone happy with the way we handle translations. Also it is possible that we are going to assign someone to take care of the Rosetta = Kubuntu interaction to minimize problems, speed up communication and to have a contact person for both teams. It won't be shipped at any point. Konsole depends on too much from the KDE stack (in this case the KDE 3 stack) which makes deployment kind of difficult. For that matter, the only applications that are affected by the absence of it are KDevelop and Kile. We hope to have both ported to KDE 4 in time for Kubuntu 9.04, which will be a supported upgrade target from 8.04 (actually auto-updates from 8.04 to 8.10 are deactivated because of this kind of shortcomings). KDEPim is difficult to address, the documentation is moved to a different package, which is not installed by default, the definition for the availability however is part of the default desktop files shipped along the applications. Only a minor issue really, because from a packaging standard point of view, the docs aren't essential and thus don't require a dependency. Only sensible solution would be to either have KHC ensure docs are really available before adding the application nodes to the tree, or that KHC should show a message stating the missing documentation and how to install them (should be implemented upstream in a distribution generic manner). KTorrent's desktop file seems to be wrong, at least I can't find any real docs. Amarok and K3b's twice appearance is fixed already, the missing is however caused by them using completely different paths for their translations. Acceptable solutions would be to either not list the documentation at all (which doesn't prevent either of these apps to reference it) or to move them to /usr/share/doc/kde4/HTML (instead of kde/HTML). Latter is preferred, I am not sure we should do this at this point though. Same applies for Konversation. KSystemlog's desktop file is wrong DocPath=ksystemlog/mainWindow.html should be X-DocPath=ksystemlog/index.html I am not sure we can do something about the doubleness of Fonts, the associated KControlModules have the same names, so... needs investigation. All other Control Center Modules have wrong desktop files (shouldn't list docs at all). Same for Info Center Same for KIO Scrollkeeper is not empty if GNOME stuff is installed, but it doesn't work Manpages are reproducible, I am not sure how it creates the nodes though (pretty sure it is an ubuntu specific problem). They don't just behave different, they are different. Manager relys on the complete archive cache, installer relys on app-install-data. Simply put: manager can install everything, installer only applications with GUI (more precise, such which ship a desktop file in usr/share/applications). That is the reason you can find hddtemp with manager, but not with installer. The plasmoid issue is basically due to the same reason (their desktop files are not shipped in the path stated above). Fixing this would have to be done in app-install-data-ubuntu, so please report a bug to include plasmoids in the database of app-install. If we were sorcerers fixing it would be trivial indeed. Thing is, we are only ninjas, so no luck there. Anywho, KUser is going to be rewritten from scratch, with new user interface and fancy design and stuff. That is only going to happen for KDE 4.3 or 4.4 though, until then this bug will not be fixed. There is a good chance KUser will be replaced by userconfig (pythonKDE based app) as in KDE 3, if it will embedd in systemsettings is still unkown though. Same applies for the printer, which already is pythonKDE. I am closing this bug as Won't Fix for now, technically it is a can't fix. But rest assured, once we are able to embedd these applications in systemsettings again, we will do that. By the way: the wakeups of your driver are not caused by the frequency, in fact the frequenzy wouldn't show up at all.
