Batch of Tuesday triages report (from 2024-07-22 to 2024-09-09)

2024-09-13 Thread Lucas Kanashiro
Hi,

I'm late with some Tuesday triages and I did them all at once, sorry for
that.

# Bug triage

## https://pad.lv/1916562 | *  | DFHI| Triaged   | sssd
   | libnss-sss removes config when not being purged |

 There is a sssd config issue happening when the package is removed in Focal
 and Jammy. This is an old bug in our backlog for a while, I am raising this
 here just for awareness.

## https://pad.lv/2027838 | *  | DJLM| In Progress   | libvirt
| /etc/profile.d/libvirt-uri.sh (LIBVIRT_DEFAULT_URI setting)… |

 This bug is assigned to Lena and it is marked as in progress, but I see the
 MPs linked there are already merged. Lena, could you please take a look
and see
 if this bug deserves any update?

## https://pad.lv/2076598 || D   | New   |
multipath-tools |friendly-names by
default |

 This is some feedback from xnox regarding the friendly-names config delta
we
 carry. He gave some instructions that we can follow to see whether we can
drop
 this.

## https://pad.lv/2076166 || D   | Fix Released  | containerd
   |   TestNewBinaryIOCleanup fails on Go1.23 |

 Athos, this is a heads-up for you :) Next cycle, when you update
 containerd-app, make sure to close this bug. This is fixed upstream and it
is
 not affecting containerd-app at the moment due to the Golang version used
to
 build it.

be added |

 The upload of this fix was made by Simon Quigley, I pinged him on
 #ubuntu-devel to see if he wants to follow-up on that. I did not get an
answer
 so far.

## https://pad.lv/2072484 || D   | New   | open-iscsi

 This was reported by Benjamin Drung from Foundations and this bug is also
 affecting Debian. This is blocking some dracut upstream tests. I subscribed
 ubuntu-server and added the server-todo tag for further investigation (not
 necessarily a fix).

If
 testing goes OK, we should try to NMU the fix in Debian (the package is
 unmaintained for years), sync it into oracular and SRU it to stable

# Bug triage

## https://pad.lv/2036670 | *  | D   | Triaged   | containerd
   |containerd packages are missing the crictl binary |

 This is a request to provide crictl via a Debian package. However, what was
 proposed is wrong, this is not implemented in containerd, it has its own
git
 repo:

 https://github.com/kubernetes-sigs/cri-tools

 We would need to package it from scratch. Today, we had an internal
discussion
 about this because other parties also suggested that this would be a good
 addition to Ubuntu, but unfortunately, we do not have enough time to work
on it
 (package it and provide regular updates) right now. This is in our backlog
and
 the Server team will work on it once we have time to do it.

 Athos tagged it as server-triage-discuss and I removed the tag, I hope my
 comment on the bug and this summary is enough for everyone.

 Marked the bug as Invalid since this is unrelated to the containerd Debian
 package.

maybe
 Mitchell may want to take a look at it again.

## https://pad.lv/2064914 || D   | New   | qemu

 The bug reporter already provided a potential fix in a PPA (adding an

reproduce
 it myself, but this might be easy since we already have a proposed fix.

weird

This is not just SRU the changes, in order to move an agent to the -base
package we require some automated tests running in our CI to make sure the
agent is working as expected. We would need to check with Athos (and
Christian) if he has capacity to do this during the Noble cycle. Once it is
promoted to the -base package in Noble we can make some considerations and
decide whether we want to backport this change to Jammy (including the
automated tests in our CI).

# Bug triage

## https://pad.lv/2039206 || D   | Confirmed |

hwclock was demoted to universe (via util-linux-extra package) and it seems
that it affected open-vm-tools. I tried to explain the situation in the bug
but
I believe some attention is needed here, maybe Bryce might want to take a
better look.

## https://pad.lv/2042587 || D   | Incomplete| dnsmasq
| jammy's version breaks existing dhcp scripts with relay |

I was able to reproduce this issue with the provided steps. Marked as
Triaged
and subscribed ubuntu-server.

## https://pad.lv/2042824 || D   | New   | freeradius

There is an upstream patch that seems to fix this issue, the reproduction is
straightforward and the patch is not so complex. I marked it as Triaged,
subscribed ubuntu-server, and added the bitesize tag.

This seems to not be an issue in nginx itself but in the dav-ext module. I
asked for more info, if this bug is still reproducible in Mantic since
there we have the libnginx-mod-http-dav-ext as a separate source package
(maybe more up-to-date).

## https://pad.lv/2041839 || D   | New   | bind9
|  bind9 doesn't listen on ipv6 even enabled in the config |

Not reproducible for me, asked for more detailed steps to reproduce the
issue. Marked as Incomplete.

I did not reproduce this issue, but I have a question for the team: should
we still maintain cloud-initramfs-tools? Maybe this should be owned by CPC

Maybe it would be more work than just updating the bugs manually but would
it be possible to have a bug description template for each MRE? Where we
can fill the bug description appropriately for each package (set of
packages). For most MREs we have a template of those bug descriptions in
the exception itself, and we could use them to create the bug with the
"almost correct" content.

Thanks. Ideally, I want to update the container stack every month (if there
are new upstream releases available), my ongoing work is the foundation to
allow me to do that. Right now, it is kind of impossible to do it so often
due to breakages in the archive. Hopefully, next cycle things will be
better.

Regarding the container-stack: I'd like to know if it is possible to track
upstream instead of Debian when checking for merges Bryce (maybe this is
another part of your tooling, not this one). I've made some changes to
those packages and now we would need the following:

- docker.io and containerd: check for merges against Debian
- docker.io-app, containerd-app and runc: check for merges against upstream

And for the backport for stable releases (not exactly a MRE but that's the
nomenclature we have been using here), I'd like to track just
docker.io-app, containerd-app and runc.

Let me know if the above is possible, thanks for your work on this Bryce!

Cheers!

# Bug triage

Found 21 bugs but nothing to bring up here. Many packages migrated and bugs
got closed, plus some work on bind9.

I got one bug which was not touched in 180 days:

Sergio was working on it, not sure if he is still planning to work on that.

seems that we update mysql with microreleases in stable Ubuntu releases,
could Lena take a quick look at this? TIA!

This is a backport request of the IMDSv2 support feature to Focal (and

but there is no update for more than a year, I added a comment to see what

One of the certs installed by pollinate is indeed expiring soon, I was able
