Re: [ubuntu-uk] Netbook Ubuntu v. plain Ubuntu
Ok, just worked out how to do the clean install of Ubuntu Netbook using usb stick. had a few problems, but got it working now. Problem is, I cant work out how to use it. Is there a guide for the Netbook version. Thanks. On 07/02/11 18:54, gazz wrote: On Mon, 2011-02-07 at 18:28 +, John MM wrote: Hi, I have an Acer Aspire One, and I am running Ubuntu 10.10. This bug seems to have been around for a while, I vaguely remember encountering it a few versions ago - there's a discussion of it here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/518533 - I could still mount them manually on the commandline, I think it's Nautilus causing the problem. Some people suggest the only way to fix it is a clean re-install. It sounds like your system might need reinstalling anyway. If you're reinstalling from USB, you only need the BIOS to recognise the stick, not Ubuntu, so this shouldn't be a problem if you can get someone to create an installation stick for you or burn a CD for your external USB CD drive? I'd probably put 10.04 on it as 10.10 doesn't have long to run. Paula -- ubuntu-uk@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-uk https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UKTeam/

My Acer Aspire One is two years old, came with: Linpus; 1Gb RAM; 120Gb HDD. It's never had a problem running the full desktop Ubuntu. Some of them at that time did come with 512mb RAM in which case I would upgrade to 1Gb and go from there. Hope that helps. The Acer Aspire One, for example, uses a Fedora based distribution called Linpus Lite. If it has a 'helper' desktop, there are still ways of starting a Gnome desktop on it.
