[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 760632] Re: Resizing Konsole crashes the whole system

2011-08-31 Thread RussianNeuroMancer
Probably because there is just 1.5 months before Oneiric release where
available nVidia driver with fix. And because Natty users can use PPA
where available driver with fix.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 730476] Re: Part of the time appears cut off when displaying the day of the week and date

2011-08-31 Thread Remon Huijts
In the code, measuring is done using the strftime function while the
rendering uses g_date_time_format. It seems these two functions use
different parts of the locale settings.

This explains Bug #775113 as well.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 781402] Re: Ubuntu 11.04 / Unity freezing when screen is 'woken up'

2011-08-31 Thread Kristoffer
Hi,

I am experiencing another version of this bug but I think it might be
related. When I resume after my computer has been asleep, the system
freezes up to 6 times. Each time lasts in about 30 seconds, then it
comes alive in a few seconds, and then another 30 seconds freeze.

I am running Ubuntu 11.04 with Unity on LG R400.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 541492] Re: MASTER: [i845] GPU lockup

2011-08-31 Thread Rüdiger Kupper
This bug affects almost 100 Thin clients equipped with intel cards at my school.
It seems that the intel driver is completely disabled for LTSP-Clients to avaid
this bug. However, the clients then fall back to the really (really!) slow VESA
driver and software rendering. This makes a really poor user experience on
natty, with many of the software distributed with edubuntu near to unusable
(e.g., celestia, stellarium).
This bug has a huge impact on user experience at my school.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 378958] Re: xorg 100% cpu when scrolling in rdesktop

2011-08-31 Thread Paul Gotch
This or something similar also affects me in 11.04. Using an RV710 based
ATI card using the free driver. Text Scrolling in rdesktop produces high
host CPU load and is very slow.

I'm not sure but I think that this wasn't a problem when I had a nvidia
card and was using the binary drivers (which I don't want to do for
other reasons).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 576648] Re: package nvidia-* failed to install/upgrade: nvidia-* kernel module failed to build (Unable to determine the target kernel version.)

2011-08-31 Thread JimmyTheGeek
My duplicate Bug #837381 is on the Ubuntu Ultimate Oz Onyx64 build.
There is a Post-Install Information folder in your /home/username folder
that explains how to configure your files for restart. Once that was
done, I had to sudo apt-get-install nvidia-settings, and reboot twice.

Once that was done, everything worked fine and I was able to configure
my dual-monitor setup. Hope this helps!

I applied the patch at comment 64 to my Samsung NC210 netbook running 64
bit Ubuntu 11.04 (kernel 2.6.38.11) and after a reboot the touchpad is
recognised (previously it had been detected as a psmouse. Mouse
preferences now has a touchpad tab which allows me to turn off mouse-
clicks on the touchpad, and activate two finger scrolling. This is fine
for me.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 760632] Re: Resizing Konsole crashes the whole system

2011-08-31 Thread Christopher K.
@ Julio A. Garcia Lopez
Well, you blame Canonical for not updating Kubuntu, which I think is kind of
unfair. Canonical is responsible for Ubuntu. Kubuntu is more a community
project supported by Canonical.
Of course you can have a try with Debian, at least then there is no company at
all to blame ;)

But I also cannot understand why the bugfix which is long available is
not in the repositories yet. And wait for the next release or install
the ppa is not a good excuse, I agree. Because in the next release
there will always be another bug like this and then you tell the users
to wait for the release afterwards to get the fix. The user does never
get a bug-free version if you continue like this. Therefore, bugfixes
that affect stability and security should be distributed fast.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 727620] Re: [Radeon HD 5650 and 5470] Kernel BUG during recovery boot and in normal boot (Hybrid graphics)

2011-08-31 Thread Seth Forshee
I've been looking at the patch we identified as fixing the problem, but
I can't work out any causal relationship between what it does and the
GPU being on when nouveau probes. I've inquired about it on the upstream
bugzilla to see if I'm missing something. But I'm beginning to suspect
that the patch alters the timing of things enough to prevent the problem
from being triggered.

Now it is to criticize something they do wrong is blamming them?
With that attitude you will never improve anything.
Get in your head that if a company does something for you do it for
publicity or for money, and if you do not move to change something you do
wrong will never change.
This is not a blame is a warning of the bad publicity for canonical that
will have not solving this problems, at least among the KDE community. And
many of them are techinical users with influences other low-level users.
It is a serious bug, which leaves the system almost useless and have not
upgraded since April a driver with this bug. They never been interested in
it.
How do you want to talk? What we sing praises of how well things are done?
Sorry not my style blindly follow anyone, especially when I see that things
are done well.
We not are requesting for a imposible thing, simply to solve a bug. A bug
in a driver that are part of Kubuntu, but also of Ubuntu, and it mean that
canonical (that is th company that makes ubuntu ¿or not?) are distributing
buggy software and does not care about it.

You say that kubuntu are more community, but kde is in the ubuntu oficial
repository. If you install kde and system freezes simply resizing a window
impression that you can take?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 760632] Re: Resizing Konsole crashes the whole system

2011-08-31 Thread Christopher K.
First: Please do not quote full entries. This bug report is already full
of hundreds of posts so we do not need to have all those fully quoted.

I did not want to distinguish between blaming and criticising. I simply
meant that canonical is not responsible for kubuntu.

Because kde is _not_ officially supported by canonical. It's in the
universe repositories. This means it's maintained by the community and
not by canonical. There is so much software in the universe repository
and one company can never be responsible for all these packages. The
buggy driver might be in the restricted repositories with software
supported by canonical but if this bug does not affect ubuntu, it is not
a critical ubuntu bug. If you want to rely on what canonical does, just
install ubuntu.

I will not respond to any response regarding this discussion because I
think further discussion is meaningless.

We all agree that the fix for this bug should be released in the
repositories as fast as possible.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 461211] [NEW] Tiny screen with xrandr monitor switch

When switching monitors from laptop to docked dual monitors, with the
following script, I expect my monitors will be set up correctly, and
display correctly:

#! /bin/sh
xrandr --output LCD --off \
xrandr --fb 3200x1200 \
   --output DFP1 --auto \
   --output CRT1 --auto --right-of DFP1

The result is that I get a tiny window in the upper left hand of the
screen -- about enough room for a 37x10 character-wide Terminal to
display. Querying xrandr shows that X believes it is set up correctly,
but the display is plainly dorked. When I get into this state, and
terminate compiz (pkill compiz.real), my display immediately works
properly -- spreads out to both monitors. So, I assume that this is a
problem with compiz not being updated or pinged properly when the
displays are changed underneath it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 461211] Re: Tiny screen with xrandr monitor switch

2011-08-31 Thread mback
The packages affected by this bug are fglrx, compiz, gnome-control-
center (gnome-display-properties), and x11-xserver-utils (xrandr). I
tried my best to add the appropriate projects to the Affects section,
but I'm unfamiliar with launchpad still could have made a mistake in
attribution.

I'm certain that all these packages need to work together to come up
with a better solution to laptop docking issues (Lenovo T400 - Dual
1600x1200 monitors).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 741930] Re: [natty] nvidia binary packages for older cards - dependencies not met

2011-08-31 Thread NoOp
Boot issues apparently not related to nvidia-96 proposed
(96.43.20-0ubuntu1~natty1). I temporarily resolved the boot issue by adding
'nopat' in grub2 per:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/537218
[ Failed to allocate video memory nvidia-current on lucid]

Workaround:

$ gksu gedit /etc/default/grub

modify:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=
to
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=nopat

save.

$ sudo update-grub

reboot.

I've cold-booted rebooted multiple times now each time works.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 727620] Re: [Radeon HD 5650 and 5470] Kernel BUG during recovery boot and in normal boot (Hybrid graphics)

2011-08-31 Thread harry
Hi Seth,

One bad experience I have had since installing the patched kernel. After
countless good boots I decided to add the following lines to
/etc/tc.local in order to use switcheroo:

chown username /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch # change username
with your user name
echo OFF /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch

Everything seemed to work for the first 5 or so boots but then I started
getting the blackscreens again. The message was similar but not the
same. Unfortunately I didn't manage to get a screen of it.

Once I got back into my desktop I removed the lines from rc.local and
then the issue disappeared.

I've gone ahead and added the lines again to see if I can recreate the
issue but so far nothing.

Not sure if this info is of any use to you at all but I thought I would
share just in case it would.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 837576] [NEW] Graphics (X) won't start on ATI X1250-based motherboard

2011-08-31 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I downloaded the daily Oneiric snapshot CD on 2011-08-28. I booted from
it but the booting ended with a black screen. However, I was able to get
keyboard access by Ctrl-Alt-F2 (typing Ctrl-Alt-F7 would turned the
screen black again). In the console (or whatever the exact term) I
tried to start Brasero but it printed an error message about not being
able to start graphics. Then I rebooted.

System info: Asus M2A-VM motherboard with integrated ATI Radeon
X1250-based graphics. Northbridge: AMD 690G, Southbridge: ATI SB600.

** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 834635] Re: [gm45] GPU lockup render.IPEHR: 0x01800020 after disabling LVDS

2011-08-31 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hi Dave, it's good to hear you're able to reproduce this one reliably.

Please uninstall ia32-libs, reboot, and then attempt to reproduce this
bug (you can reinstall ia32-libs later). I want to rule it out as a
possible cause. ia32-libs includes 32-bit builds of various packages
and sometimes those packages get out of sync with the 64-bit versions; I
want to see if there is an old mesa or something in your ia32-libs
causing this bug.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 834603] Re: [gm45] GPU lockup render.IPEHR: 0x01800002

2011-08-31 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hi Dave,

I've forwarded your bug upstream to
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=40527. Please subscribe to
that bug report in case upstream needs further information or wishes you
to test something. Thanks ahead of time!

Fwiw, several other people have reported bugs with DPMS-related issues
on gm45 within the past couple weeks, so I'm suspecting there might have
been a regression in a kernel introduced around that time. What I think
we need is to know how people can more reliably reproduce the bug, so
git bisection might become feasible.

Hi JumaX9,

Please uninstall ia32-libs, reboot, and see if that prevents this bug

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 836713] Re: [i965gm] GPU lockup

2011-08-31 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hi Paul, unfortunately this time apport did not capture a valid i915
-error-state file: It shows EIR: 0x which means no error,
so presumably it got cleared before the bug could be reported.

Please see if you can reproduce the bug and have apport try filing it
again. Or, reproduce the bug and collect dmesg and
/sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_error_state manually.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 814450] Re: [gm45] GPU lockup EIR: 0x00000010 PGTBL_ER: 0x00000003

2011-08-31 Thread Bryce Harrington
Thanks for confirming it still happens. Can you also answer my earlier
questions?

A GPU lockup typically involves the system being locked up hard - mouse
pointer may move, but is totally unresponsive otherwise and you have to
power cycle the machine. Did that happen? I ask because sometimes there
are fake lockups, where the video driver is able to immediately
recover - it trips the crash detector but your system is otherwise fine.

If you do have real lockups and have seen them recently, about how often
does it seem to occur - like every time right after starting up the
Ubuntu Unity desktop environment, or only after some period of use, or
randomly?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 834437] Re: [sandybridge-m-gt2] False GPU lockup

2011-08-31 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hi Maraschin, unfortunately in this case apport failed to capture a
valid /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_error_state for us.

Please reproduce the bug and re-file a new bug report through apport.
Or collect /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_error_state and dmesg manually
and reopen this bug report next time it happens (you'll have to ssh in
over ethernet).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 835354] Re: [i965gm] GPU lockup render.IPEHR: 0x0a94a000 after chromium fault

2011-08-31 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hi Sabaruddin,

I notice that chromium had suffered a severe fault immediately prior to
the gpu hanging, and wonder if the two issues are related. Are you able
to reproduce this bug still? Can you test if it is triggered by
chromium use?

2011-08-31 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hi Eirinni, this error code typically comes up when running 3D
applications. I note you were not running compiz; were you running some
other program that uses 3D at the time?

Can you describe what types of activities you're doing around the time
that it freezes?

Have you run Ubuntu previously on this computer, without this issue?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 745608] Re: [915GM] font corruption on Intel GMA900

2011-08-31 Thread Dominik P
Hooray, looks like I finally found the bug where I can submit the
information I gathered. Two screenshots right away:

http://i.stack.imgur.com/Cfd9B.png
http://img835.imageshack.us/img835/8831/oddfonts2.png

I've got here a IBM X41t with intel GMA900 chipset:

~$ lspci |grep Display
00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 915GM/GMS/910GML Express
Graphics Controller (rev 03)

So, bug confirmed from my side and I would REALLY love that this issue
gets a higher priority. My laptop is in a unusable state as I'm unable
to read any longer text without getting headache after some time. I'm
going to test Option DebugWait true and feed back the results ASAP.

Looks just like this solved the issues for me:

~$ cat /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-monitor.conf
Section Device
Identifier Intel
Driver intel
Option DebugWait true
EndSection

But it may need further testing. I'm going to feed back if the problem
still occurs in the next days.
