[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 541492] Re: MASTER: [i845] GPU lockup
This bug affects almost 100 Thin clients equipped with intel cards at my school. It seems that the intel driver is completely disabled for LTSP-Clients to avaid this bug. However, the clients then fall back to the really (really!) slow VESA driver and software rendering. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 760632] Re: Resizing Konsole crashes the whole system
@ Julio A. Garcia Lopez Well, you blame Canonical for not updating Kubuntu, which I think is kind of unfair. Canonical is responsible for Ubuntu. Kubuntu is more a community project supported by Canonical. Of course you can have a try with Debian, at least then there is no company at all to blame ;) But I also cannot understand why the bugfix which is long available is not in the repositories yet. And wait for the next release or install the ppa is not a good excuse, I agree. Because in the next release there will always be another bug like this and then you tell the users to wait for the release afterwards to get the fix. The user does never get a bug-free version if you continue like this. I've been looking at the patch we identified as fixing the problem, but I can't work out any causal relationship between what it does and the GPU being on when nouveau probes. I've inquired about it on the upstream bugzilla to see if I'm missing something. But I'm beginning to suspect that the patch alters the timing of things enough to prevent the problem from being triggered. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = In Progress -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/727620 Title: [Radeon HD 5650 and 5470] Kernel BUG during recovery boot and in normal boot (Hybrid graphics) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/727620/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 760632] Re: Resizing Konsole crashes the whole system
Now it is to criticize something they do wrong is blamming them? With that attitude you will never improve anything. Get in your head that if a company does something for you do it for publicity or for money, and if you do not move to change something you do wrong will never change. This is not a blame is a warning of the bad publicity for canonical that will have not solving this problems, at least among the KDE community. And many of them are techinical users with influences other low-level users. It is a serious bug, which leaves the system almost useless and have not upgraded since April a driver with this bug. They never been interested in it. How do you want to talk? What we sing praises of how well things are done? Sorry not my style blindly follow anyone, especially when I see that things are done well. We not are requesting for a imposible thing, simply to solve a bug. A bug in a driver that are part of Kubuntu, but also of Ubuntu, and it mean that canonical (that is th company that makes ubuntu ¿or not?) are distributing buggy software and does not care about it. You say that kubuntu are more community, but kde is in the ubuntu oficial repository. If you install kde and system freezes simply resizing a window impression that you can take? El , Christopher K. 760...@bugs.launchpad.net escribió: @ Julio A. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 760632] Re: Resizing Konsole crashes the whole system
First: Please do not quote full entries. This bug report is already full of hundreds of posts so we do not need to have all those fully quoted. I did not want to distinguish between blaming and criticising. I simply meant that canonical is not responsible for kubuntu. Because kde is _not_ officially supported by canonical. It's in the universe repositories. This means it's maintained by the community and not by canonical. There is so much software in the universe repository and one company can never be responsible for all these packages. The buggy driver might be in the restricted repositories with software supported by canonical but if this bug does not affect ubuntu, it is not a critical ubuntu bug. If you want to rely on what canonical does, just install ubuntu. I will not respond to any response regarding this discussion because I think further discussion is meaningless. We all agree that the fix for this bug should be released in the repositories as fast as possible. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/760632 Title: Resizing Konsole crashes the whole system To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/760632/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

The packages affected by this bug are fglrx, compiz, gnome-control- center (gnome-display-properties), and x11-xserver-utils (xrandr). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 727620] Re: [Radeon HD 5650 and 5470] Kernel BUG during recovery boot and in normal boot (Hybrid graphics)
Hi Seth, One bad experience I have had since installing the patched kernel. After countless good boots I decided to add the following lines to /etc/tc.local in order to use switcheroo: chown username /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch # change username with your user name echo OFF /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch Everything seemed to work for the first 5 or so boots but then I started getting the blackscreens again. The message was similar but not the same. Unfortunately I didn't manage to get a screen of it. Once I got back into my desktop I removed the lines from rc.local and then the issue disappeared. I've gone ahead and added the lines again to see if I can recreate the issue but so far nothing. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 837576] [NEW] Graphics (X) won't start on ATI X1250-based motherboard
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I downloaded the daily Oneiric snapshot CD on 2011-08-28. I booted from it but the booting ended with a black screen. However, I was able to get keyboard access by Ctrl-Alt-F2 (typing Ctrl-Alt-F7 would turned the screen black again). In the console (or whatever the exact term) I tried to start Brasero but it printed an error message about not being able to start graphics. Then I rebooted. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 834635] Re: [gm45] GPU lockup render.IPEHR: 0x01800020 after disabling LVDS
Hi Dave, it's good to hear you're able to reproduce this one reliably. Please uninstall ia32-libs, reboot, and then attempt to reproduce this bug (you can reinstall ia32-libs later). I want to rule it out as a possible cause. ia32-libs includes 32-bit builds of various packages and sometimes those packages get out of sync with the 64-bit versions; I want to see if there is an old mesa or something in your ia32-libs causing this bug. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/834635 Title: [gm45] GPU lockup render.IPEHR: 0x01800020 after disabling LVDS To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/834635/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Hi Dave, I've forwarded your bug upstream to https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=40527. Please subscribe to that bug report in case upstream needs further information or wishes you to test something. Thanks ahead of time! Fwiw, several other people have reported bugs with DPMS-related issues on gm45 within the past couple weeks, so I'm suspecting there might have been a regression in a kernel introduced around that time. What I think we need is to know how people can more reliably reproduce the bug, so git bisection might become feasible. ** This bug is no longer a duplicate of bug 832733 [gm45] GPU lockup render.IPEHR: 0x0182 after logging out/in ** Bug watch added: freedesktop.org Bugzilla #40527 http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=40527 ** Also affects: xserver-xorg-video-intel via http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=40527 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/834603 Title: [gm45] GPU lockup render.IPEHR: 0x0182 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/834603/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Thanks for confirming it still happens. Can you also answer my earlier questions? A GPU lockup typically involves the system being locked up hard - mouse pointer may move, but is totally unresponsive otherwise and you have to power cycle the machine. Did that happen? I ask because sometimes there are fake lockups, where the video driver is able to immediately recover - it trips the crash detector but your system is otherwise fine. If you do have real lockups and have seen them recently, about how often does it seem to occur - like every time right after starting up the Ubuntu Unity desktop environment, or only after some period of use, or randomly? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/814450 Title: [gm45] GPU lockup EIR: 0x0010 PGTBL_ER: 0x0003 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/814450/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 745608] Re: [915GM] font corruption on Intel GMA900
Hooray, looks like I finally found the bug where I can submit the information I gathered. Two screenshots right away: http://i.stack.imgur.com/Cfd9B.png http://img835.imageshack.us/img835/8831/oddfonts2.png I've got here a IBM X41t with intel GMA900 chipset: ~$ lspci |grep Display 00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 915GM/GMS/910GML Express Graphics Controller (rev 03) So, bug confirmed from my side and I would REALLY love that this issue gets a higher priority. My laptop is in a unusable state as I'm unable to read any longer text without getting headache after some time. I'm going to test Option DebugWait true and feed back the results ASAP. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/745608 Title: [915GM] font corruption on Intel GMA900 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/745608/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 745608] Re: [915GM] font corruption on Intel GMA900
Looks just like this solved the issues for me: ~$ cat /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-monitor.conf Section Device Identifier Intel Driver intel Option DebugWait true EndSection But it may need further testing. I'm going to feed back if the problem still occurs in the next days.
