[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 763005] Re: Compiz's Sync to Vblank makes display stutter/slow with some drivers (like fglrx)
** Description changed: - This bug has now been found to affect users of fglrx and intel graphics - drivers. It could possibly affect nvidia too. + This bug has been found to affect users of fglrx (ATI/AMD) and Intel + graphics drivers. NVIDIA users should look to bug 92599 instead. TEST CASE: Make sure Sync To VBlank is enabled in the OpenGL section of CompizConfig Settings Manager. In Ubuntu 11.04 it is enabled by default. fglrx: Drag some windows around. Also open and close windows. The animations will not be smooth as they appear to stutter. The framerate is only around 20-30Hz. intel and possibly any driver: Press WinKey+S or WinKey+W rapidly to trigger the expo/workspace animations. These are full-screen animations. But are they silky-smooth? Now turn Sync To VBlank off and repeat the above steps again. If you notice the animations are much smoother than with Sync To VBlank on then you are suffering from this bug. - ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: Package: fglrx Version: 2:8.840-0ubuntu2 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Juniper [Radeon HD 5700 Series] I have ATI's 5770 with fglrx. Having Sync to Vblank on makes Unity and many Compiz features (Enhanced Zoom, Scale etc.) really slow. Turning Sync to Vblank off has a huge effect on desktop, responsiveness is much, much better. Turning tearing off/on from amdccle doesn't seem to have any effect on responsiveness. In Maverick Sync to Vblank was off by default, in Natty it's on. This will probably have a huge impact on many fglrx users. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/763005 Title: Compiz's Sync to Vblank makes display stutter/slow with some drivers (like fglrx) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz/+bug/763005/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 830949] Re: [Intel N10 Graphics] Plugging in external monitor to VGA port makes both displays corrupted with thick slanted lines
This cannot be usefully handled as a driver bug; the hardware is perfectly capable of running at that resoluton. The driver cannot know that you're going to try to use a GL compositor that doesn't handle running at resolutions greater than the maximum GL texture size. This is either a compiz bug or a unity bug. Didn't compiz grow support for running at max_gl_texture_size this cycle? That would be slower (I'm not sure how much slower) but shouldn't fail. There might be mesa bugs causing that to be slower than it has to be, but that doesn't seem to be this bug. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu Oneiric) Status: New = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/830949 Title: [Intel N10 Graphics] Plugging in external monitor to VGA port makes both displays corrupted with thick slanted lines To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/830949/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 845857] [NEW] Disable Display Device dialog shown on the unplugged monitor
Public bug reported: I have a dual-monitor setup (laptop + external monitor). Unplugging the external monitor then running 'detect displays' in NVidia Settings results in the Disable Display Device dialog being displayed on the just-unplugged monitor. This is not helpful. To reproduce: 1) Boot Ubuntu w/ an external monitor hooked up. The system comes up and drives both screens 2) Launch nvidia-settings; select X Server Display Configuration. Note that the 2 screens are shown in in TwinView mode. The laptop's internal monitor (DFP-0 on GPU 0) is set as the primary display according to the Make this the primary display for the X screen checkbox in NVidia Settings 3) Unplug the external monitor 4) Press the Detect Displays button At this point the nvidia-settings app appears to hang - the buttons (including 'Quit') don't respond. The Layout widget continues to show the external monitor as being connected. The device tree in the left pane of NVida Settings does show the external display as being removed from GPU 0. 5) Plug the external monitor back in. Note the Disable Display Device dialog is displayed on the external monitor. The dialog should not be displayed on the monitor that was just unplugged. It should be displayed on the monitor that was not unplugged, so that it is actually usable. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 840462] Re: No Dualscreen-Twinview possible after Upgrade to nvidia-current 280.13
Hello out there, some news about this: 1. __Tried nvidia driver from nvidia download:__ Yesterday I gave the subject another try uninstalled all nvidia-current/settings, downloaded the original nvidia 280.13 driver from the nvidia download page, compiled an installed it. The tool creates automatically an nvidia aware xorg.conf. __Result:__ Same problems as described above. 2. __ Installed again 280.13/oneiric and Gnome Shell / Unity 2(!) D: __ It turns out after some hours/days of real work, that using these environments work flawlessly with the driver. Hopefully I don't suffer from a hardware problem. But this point indicates, that this it not the fact. __Conclusion:__ A. Switching back to Unity 3D there is an interesting issue: just in the moment twinview turns out going to work - with the method described in #6 - compiz (unity?!) crashes. You can have a look for the Xorg.0.log.old (with is the crashed unity session) whats going on there. Xorg.0.log represents the gnome shell session. SO FINALLY: 1. This seams not a bug with nvidia 280.13, this is __definitely a bug with Unity 3D AND nvidia driver__ (doesn't matter which version 275/280/285)! 2. The problem is device indepentend. I am working in different environments (office, at home, at school, doing courses with beamer). The problems are the same, no matter what type of second device i am using (vga/dvi, beamer/lcd). On the fly switching is not working, at least extremely buggy. 3. It turns out, working with an xorg file (constructed with nvidia- settings when you where happy to get a running twinview setting) boots flawlessly into a working environment (Untiy 3D), after logout/login/boot 4. Overall performance degraded (compared with natty / 270series of nvidia) - I will keep an eye on this issue an probably will file a bug against Unity 3D / nvidia. ** Attachment added: xorg log under gnome shell https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-settings/+bug/840462/+attachment/2377884/+files/Xorg.0.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-settings in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/840462 Title: No Dualscreen-Twinview possible after Upgrade to nvidia-current 280.13 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-settings/+bug/840462/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 753144] Re: focused, or maximized windows blank
Hi warjowuch I'm using the 280.13 driver and the problem is definitely existing (in addition the latest beta is acting the same but it has a suspend/wake up freezing issue too) although I got this issue with fedora 15 and gnome 3 but I think on Ubuntu compiz/unity/gnome 3 would do the same. If you want I could send you a bug report with this driver version on fedora 15 tomorrow. Imho if anyone else could do the same on Ubuntu we could sand a thorough report which must be enough them to fix this issue if they wanted. I just now read the 752445 bug thread and saw that this driver sold the problem for somebody but the majority gets the same. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 846089] [NEW] Xorg freeze: logging in with unity, compiz freezes
Public bug reported: Upon freshly installing Natty and moving all the /home data from a Maverick install, GLX acceleration no longer works. When I login with either the Unity or Ubuntu Classic, the screen will change, sometimes even showing the unity panel. However, it freezes and it unresponsive to clicking (but the mouse will move). Using the Ubuntu Classic (no effects) works fine. I have a Nvidia 7300 GS and I am using the Nvidia binary driver (the plymouth one has horrible corruption on the Ctl Alt F1-F6 consoles). This is a regression; glx acceleration used to works fine on Maverick. I avoided Natty for this machine because of it's use as a web server and router for my house--I needed it to work, and didn't want to spare the downtime for testing. (I am now running Natty though, but not with acceleration). I have tried to describe the bug the best I can, but if you need me to try/test something more I will. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 753144] Re: focused, or maximized windows blank
Hi warjowuch, in my young years I have been using nv drivers from binary file (no packages), they have one disadvantage - I have to reinstall them as soon as I have new kernel (very often in ubuntu). So I gave up. But for sake of testing I am willing to try it. I have different architecture than IA.
