[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 676166] Re: Screen corruption when resuming from suspend

2011-09-09 Thread Zero
Also I have corruption after suspending, Nividia-9600gt. I will attach
an screenshot; Curiously it affects the desktop background and
applications but not menus, modal windows or unity panel dock and
drawer; they appear on top of the corruption.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 845429] [NEW] parts of the screen are not always updated

2011-09-09 Thread Wim
Public bug reported:

When I'm scrolling in eg. emacs/gnome-terminal the screen is not always
fully updated. Parts of the window keep displaying what was there before
I scrolled. It happens frequently but I have not found a reproducible
way to trigger it. I marked it as regression because it didn't happen in

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 763005] Re: Compiz's Sync to Vblank makes display stutter/slow with some drivers (like fglrx)

2011-09-09 Thread Daniel van Vugt
** Description changed:

- This bug has now been found to affect users of fglrx and intel graphics
- drivers. It could possibly affect nvidia too.
+ This bug has been found to affect users of fglrx (ATI/AMD) and Intel
+ graphics drivers. NVIDIA users should look to bug 92599 instead.

  TEST CASE:

Make sure Sync To VBlank is enabled in the OpenGL section of
CompizConfig Settings Manager. In Ubuntu 11.04 it is enabled by default.

fglrx: Drag some windows around. Also open and close windows. The
animations will not be smooth as they appear to stutter. The framerate
  is only around 20-30Hz.

intel and possibly any driver: Press WinKey+S or WinKey+W rapidly to
trigger the expo/workspace animations. These are full-screen animations.
  But are they silky-smooth?

Now turn Sync To VBlank off and repeat the above steps again. If you
notice the animations are much smoother than with Sync To VBlank on
then you are suffering from this bug.

-
  ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION:

  Package: fglrx
  Version: 2:8.840-0ubuntu2

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Juniper [Radeon
  HD 5700 Series]

I have ATI's 5770 with fglrx. Having Sync to Vblank on makes Unity and
many Compiz features (Enhanced Zoom, Scale etc.) really slow. Turning
Sync to Vblank off has a huge effect on desktop, responsiveness is
much, much better. Turning tearing off/on from amdccle doesn't seem to
  have any effect on responsiveness.

In Maverick Sync to Vblank was off by default, in Natty it's on. This
will probably have a huge impact on many fglrx users.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 799202] Re: wacom stylus jumps with latest xserver-xorg-core

2011-09-09 Thread j-b-m
Pressure works for me on my own recordings. Maybe you need some
calibration or configuration of the Krita brush. I can see a very small
sign of pressure sensitivity on your recording : the beginning of the
first stroke is slightly grey , meaning the opacity was not at 100%

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 828494] Re: xorg driver fallback for arm is missing pvr for omap 4

2011-09-09 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package xorg-server - 2:1.10.4-1ubuntu1

---
xorg-server (2:1.10.4-1ubuntu1) oneiric; urgency=low

[ Christopher James Halse Rogers ]
  * Drop i8xx-disablement patch. 2.6.39 and later kernels contain a patch
which alledgedly fixes the cache-incoherency problems. (LP: #817814)

[ Ricardo Salveti de Araujo ]
  * debian/patches/112_armel-pvr-drv.patch:
- Include support for the pvr driver available on OMAP 4 (LP: #828494)

  [ Timo Aaltonen ]
  * Merge from Debian unstable.
- Fixes Xephyr assert failure in dixGetPrivateAddr (LP: #821090)
  * debian/rules: Modify the patch stampdir creation.
  * Update patch 500_xi2.1.patch to apply.
  * Refresh patches.
  * debian/rules: Add PATH for the xvfb-run check, otherwise Xvfb is not found.
  * debian/rules: Shift the xvfb-run test to be run later, to ensure that the
binaries are installed.

  [ Bryce Harrington ]
  * debian/rules: Add check target invoking xvfb-run to test that it works
  * debian/control: Add build dependency on xauth, required by xvfb-run

  [ Chase Douglas ]
  * Add fixes for touch grab handling, courtesy of Carlos Garnacho
- 505_Xi_ensure_replayed_touch_events_have_devices.patch
- 506_Xi_ensure_touch_events_update_currentTime.patch
- 507_dix_Ensure_touch_events_are_delivered_to_next_client.patch

xorg-server (2:1.10.4-1) unstable; urgency=low

  [ Timo Aaltonen ]
  * New upstream release.

xorg-server (2:1.10.3-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  [ Cyril Brulebois ]
  * New upstream release (with just a version bump).
  * Remove the Replaces: xdmx from xdmx-tools, that was before lenny.
  * Add a Breaks: libgl1-mesa-dri-no-multiarch, to handle upgrades from
squeeze-backports (without multiarch) to wheezy (with multiarch).
  * Set urgency to “medium” to speed things up. Migration to testing is
a prerequisite for squeeze backports.

  [ Julien Cristau ]
  * Merge packaging changes lost from the 1.7 (squeeze) branch:
+ Add Breaks on drivers abandoned between lenny and squeeze. This helps
apt decide to remove them instead of removing all of X. Thanks, David
  Kalnischkies!
+ Set default xkb rules to evdev on linux, to work around a wrong default in
configure.ac and an Xorg issue where it reverts to the default on reset.
Thanks to Bastian Blank for the report.

I build my own X server packages without patches 504, 503 or 502. In
those cases pressure is properly recognised from both evemu recordings.
With patch 502 it is not. Using the Wacom directly works on both (but
breaks with 504 as with others).

interact with the application indicators and application menu even
though I can't see them) however it looks as if unity is drawing my
  old gnome panel.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 759803] Re: Unity-2d not working on KVM with xen and cirrus video devices

2011-09-09 Thread nutznboltz
I was able to set 16bit depth.

In /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf I appended

xserver-command=X -depth 16

no quotes.

Things appear much better now. The status bar in the upper right now
displays all the icons and gadgets, before it was just blank.

The workspace switcher displays correctly.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 820370] Re: Tries and fails to remove /etc/gdm

2011-09-09 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Scott, I've just uploaded a new version of xorg (which builds
x11-common), could you verify if you have /etc/gdm left after the
update? I hope it'll get removed on upgrade now that there are no
conffiles left in the directory.

Otherwise the x11-common.preinst script would need changing, and it's a
bit scary to remove the dir and make sure it's not used etc..

note that the new package has no changes related to this bug, just that
the unpack phase should (?) remove /etc/gdm now that it's empty.. here's
hoping.

2011-09-09 Thread rjmackay
I've had the same issue as LiKwiiD.
I installed the psmouse-alps-dkms and couldn't get it to work.
sudo rmmod psmouse and sudo modprobe psmouse hung the system. On reboot the
mouse wasn't detected.
After purging the package, but the touchpad is still not usable, it's not
appearing at all in 'xinput list' now.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 817632] Re: terminal frequently gets corrupted

2011-09-09 Thread Serge Hallyn
If you like, though that seems a little aggressive. I couldn't
reproduce lately due to lack of access to the affect system. I got
access to it again today, and yes the terminal still does it.

at least for a workaround. Below there is a stack trace of my simple
gtk-application crashing in pixman_image_composite32() - I'm not sure if
that helps. I would really appreciate a fix of libpixman-1-0 for Natty.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 830949] Re: [Intel N10 Graphics] Plugging in external monitor to VGA port makes both displays corrupted with thick slanted lines

2011-09-09 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
This cannot be usefully handled as a driver bug; the hardware is
perfectly capable of running at that resoluton. The driver cannot know
that you're going to try to use a GL compositor that doesn't handle
running at resolutions greater than the maximum GL texture size.

This is either a compiz bug or a unity bug. Didn't compiz grow support
for running at max_gl_texture_size this cycle? That would be slower
(I'm not sure how much slower) but shouldn't fail. There might be mesa
bugs causing that to be slower than it has to be, but that doesn't seem
to be this bug.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 845857] [NEW] Disable Display Device dialog shown on the unplugged monitor

2011-09-09 Thread Steve Magoun
Public bug reported:

I have a dual-monitor setup (laptop + external monitor). Unplugging the
external monitor then running 'detect displays' in NVidia Settings
results in the Disable Display Device dialog being displayed on the
just-unplugged monitor. This is not helpful.

To reproduce:
1) Boot Ubuntu w/ an external monitor hooked up. The system comes up and drives
both screens
2) Launch nvidia-settings; select X Server Display Configuration. Note that
the 2 screens are shown in in TwinView mode. The laptop's internal monitor
(DFP-0 on GPU 0) is set as the primary display according to the Make this the
primary display for the X screen checkbox in NVidia Settings
3) Unplug the external monitor
4) Press the Detect Displays button

At this point the nvidia-settings app appears to hang - the buttons
(including 'Quit') don't respond. The Layout widget continues to show
the external monitor as being connected. The device tree in the left
pane of NVida Settings does show the external display as being removed
from GPU 0.

5) Plug the external monitor back in. Note the Disable Display Device
dialog is displayed on the external monitor.

The dialog should not be displayed on the monitor that was just
unplugged. It should be displayed on the monitor that was not unplugged,
so that it is actually usable.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 840462] Re: No Dualscreen-Twinview possible after Upgrade to nvidia-current 280.13

2011-09-09 Thread Axel Pospischil
Hello out there, some news about this:

1. __Tried nvidia driver from nvidia download:__
Yesterday I gave the subject another try uninstalled all
nvidia-current/settings, downloaded the original nvidia 280.13 driver from the
nvidia download page, compiled an installed it. The tool creates automatically
an nvidia aware xorg.conf.

__Result:__
Same problems as described above.

2. __ Installed again 280.13/oneiric and Gnome Shell / Unity 2(!) D: __
It turns out after some hours/days of real work, that using these environments
work flawlessly with the driver.
Hopefully I don't suffer from a hardware problem. But this point indicates,
that this it not the fact.

__Conclusion:__
A. Switching back to Unity 3D there is an interesting issue:
just in the moment twinview turns out going to work - with the method described
in #6 - compiz (unity?!) crashes.
You can have a look for the Xorg.0.log.old (with is the crashed unity session)
whats going on there.
Xorg.0.log represents the gnome shell session.

SO FINALLY:

1. This seams not a bug with nvidia 280.13, this is __definitely a bug
with Unity 3D AND nvidia driver__ (doesn't matter which version
275/280/285)!

2. The problem is device indepentend. I am working in different
environments (office, at home, at school, doing courses with beamer).
The problems are the same, no matter what type of second device i am
using (vga/dvi, beamer/lcd). On the fly switching is not working, at
least extremely buggy.

3. It turns out, working with an xorg file (constructed with nvidia-
settings when you where happy to get a running twinview setting) boots
flawlessly into a working environment (Untiy 3D), after
logout/login/boot

4. Overall performance degraded (compared with natty / 270series of
nvidia)

- I will keep an eye on this issue an probably will file a bug against
Unity 3D / nvidia.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 753144] Re: focused, or maximized windows blank

2011-09-09 Thread prettl
Hi warjowuch

I'm using the 280.13 driver and the problem is definitely existing (in
addition the latest beta is acting the same but it has a suspend/wake up
freezing issue too) although I got this issue with fedora 15 and gnome 3
but I think on Ubuntu compiz/unity/gnome 3 would do the same. If you
want I could send you a bug report with this driver version on fedora 15
tomorrow. Imho if anyone else could do the same on Ubuntu we could sand
a thorough report which must be enough them to fix this issue if they
wanted.

I just now read the 752445 bug thread and saw that this driver sold the
problem for somebody but the majority gets the same.

I hope if we will be persistent we can get Nvidia to solve the problem.

regards
Zsolt

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 842739] Re: nouveau knernel modules loaded infavor of nvidia modules

2011-09-09 Thread Ben Howard
** Description changed:

On Oneiric, after upgrading from Natty, the Nouveau kernel modules are
- loaded in favor of the Nvidia third-party modules. The _only_ way that I
- was able to get the Nvidia modules to load was to remove the Nouveau
- moduels -- blacklisting them in /etc/modprobe.d did not fix the problem.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 846041] [NEW] [gm45] False GPU lockup EIR: 0x00000010 PGTBL_ER: 0x00100000

2011-09-09 Thread Martin Wildam
Public bug reported:

According to Bryce Harrington we would need a new bug filed for your
issue (there can be subtle differences in the error traces even if the
symptoms are identical) I am doing a new bug report here although found
similar ones like bug #740438 or bug #733744 .

Happens for me a few minutes after reboot - as mentioned in the other
bugs. However there they are told to be solved/invalid but to me it
looks like still happening...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 846065] [NEW] Minimise/Maximise buttons don't work in browser sometimes

2011-09-09 Thread Martin Wildam
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I have a reproducable problem here:
1. Steps to reproduce: Login to Oneiric

2. Open a browser window (Firefox) and then a terminal window.

3. The click back to the browser window and try maximizing and/or
minimizing the browser window. You will see, that nothing is happening.

I would expect a maximize or minimize appropriate behaviour. Any idea?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 839774] Re: System frozen randomly

2011-09-09 Thread Walkinraven
Sorry, I'm afraid I can't give any more info. for I've reinstall with a
32-bit system, hoping this is a 64-bit only problem.

And, If you mean when it happen, I may:

Run 'apport-collect 839774' to provide more info.

I think it impossible, for I can't move my mouse, my keyboard is
inactive, Ctrl+Alt+F1/T ... no even Caps Lock is unavailable.

And it may take many hours to happen the accident.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 846089] [NEW] Xorg freeze: logging in with unity, compiz freezes

2011-09-09 Thread Erik B. Andersen
Public bug reported:

Upon freshly installing Natty and moving all the /home data from a
Maverick install, GLX acceleration no longer works. When I login with
either the Unity or Ubuntu Classic, the screen will change, sometimes
even showing the unity panel. However, it freezes and it unresponsive to
clicking (but the mouse will move). Using the Ubuntu Classic (no
effects) works fine. I have a Nvidia 7300 GS and I am using the Nvidia
binary driver (the plymouth one has horrible corruption on the Ctl Alt
F1-F6 consoles).

This is a regression; glx acceleration used to works fine on Maverick. I
avoided Natty for this machine because of it's use as a web server and
router for my house--I needed it to work, and didn't want to spare the
downtime for testing. (I am now running Natty though, but not with
acceleration).

I have tried to describe the bug the best I can, but if you need me to
try/test something more I will.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 753144] Re: focused, or maximized windows blank

2011-09-09 Thread cccccccc
Hi warjowuch,

in my young years I have been using nv drivers from binary file (no
packages), they have one disadvantage - I have to reinstall them as soon
as I have new kernel (very often in ubuntu). So I gave up. But for sake
of testing I am willing to try it. I have different architecture than
IA. So I google this ftp: ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-
x86_64/ and now: what the hack is this? Why is there such a mass in
drivers versions. And Your 180.13 even is not there!!! Can anybody give
me some link explaining what is it verzion 180.x 185.x 190.x etc? What
version should I try? Thanks

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 839808] Re: Intel Sandybridge crash that takes Kwin with it

2011-09-09 Thread Scott Kitterman
Fixed in Mesa 7.12.

[00:29:37] Sarvatt ScottK: definitely, I did look at your bug but I'm
a bit stumped at it. the kwin backtrace was because DRI got ripped out
from under it when the GPU reset and disabled acceleration which mesa
couldn't cope with (that specific kwin segfault is fixed in mesa 7.12
but was a bit too big to backport when i looked)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 839774] Re: System frozen randomly

2011-09-09 Thread Walkinraven
I guess it may be caused by Adobe Flash plug-in, for right now it
happened again on 32-bit system. It seems each time, there is a firefox
with flash page opened.
