[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently while watching videos (Fixed by 3.3.6 kernel)
The logs I submitted earlier are from a system that I can confirm has this bug. A few minutes ago, the bug occurred a few seconds after launching a DIVX-encoded AVI in VLC. I could still move the mouse cursor, but the rest of the screen became totally unresponsive. I could still log into the machine via SSH. Killing the X process works: the DE restarts and I can continue using the system without rebooting. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/993187 Title: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently while watching videos (Fixed by 3.3.6 kernel) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/993187/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1007722] [NEW] xterm doesn't display all the information
Public bug reported: Regular output in XTerm results in a few blanked (black) lines in the top or bottom of the window. It happens when some application prints out something - top of windows stays black. It happens when I scroll the window contens with the mouse wheel - top or bottom of the window (depending on scrolling direction) remains black. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently while watching videos (Fixed by 3.3.6 kernel)
I am not trying to blame anyone. It looks like whoever accessed the status of this bug probably only read the original post and didn't read the entire thread. If they had, they would know it affects people under a wide variety of circumstances and doesn't only affect people watching video. That is why this hard freeze is so difficult to troubleshoot. It is hard to pinpoint the exact cause of the lock-up.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently while watching videos (Fixed by 3.3.6 kernel)
Bryce, I've experienced a complete system freeze twice and both times I was not watching video. Based on comments made here I think other people that have experienced the crash while they were not watching videos. The new bug title that you chose is misleading. Where did you get that this only happens while watching videos? In my case, both times I experienced the freeze it happened right after I finished using Alt-Tab to switch applications. Complete system freeze; the machine would not even respond to pings anymore and both keyboard and mouse obviously dead. This was happening on my work machine and I could not afford the instability so I grabbed a pristine 3.3.7 tarball from kernel.org, compiled that, and that is what I am running. My uptime is now 7 days. My machine uses an integrated Intel graphic controller. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1007690] [NEW] Dialog after "Your screen is running in low-graphics-mode" not accessable without mouse
Public bug reported: I have some kernel problems at the moment. That's another problem. but every time I boot to the graphical user Interface and I get the message "Your screen is running in low-graphics-mode", I cannot do anything anymore with the graphical gui. as long I don't get my mouse working. The first message with the simple button can easily be clicked away by pressing return key. But the next dialog showing 4 option boxes does not get focus and I can try whatever I want (pressing tab, space, esc, return etc.) I can't close the dialog or choose any option. The only thing possible is pressing ctrl+alt+f2 to switch to a text console. This bug appears in Ubuntu Precise 12.04 but was already there in earlier versions of ubuntu. Especially diagnostic tools SHOULD be accessable without a mouse... ** Affects: xdiagnose (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xdiagnose in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1007690 Title: Dialog after "Your screen is running in low-graphics-mode" not accessable without mouse To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xdiagnose/+bug/1007690/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1005321] Re: Several pointing device related problems occur when a touchscreen is installed
I've just found bug Bug #774938 and think that the erratic mouse cursor movement that I described right after "Besides, there are several other problems related to the touchscreen itself:" is related to that bug. I use a dual monitor configuration and I'm using coordinate transformation matrix to restrict the touchscreen to one of my monitors. I use two 1920x1080 monitors positioned one above the other. The bottom monitor has a touchscreen, but the upper monitor does not. Without modifying the coordinate transformation matrix, X thinks that the touchscreen covers the entire desktop. I use the following command to restrict the touchscreen to the bottom monitor: xinput set-prop "Quanta OpticalTouchScreen" "Coordinate Transformation Matrix" 1 0 0 0 0.5 0.5 0 0 1 Before this command is executed, I can click by tapping the touchscreen and can drag itens or draw using the touchscreen without the mouse jumping to the bottom of the screen, but the position where X thinks I'm touching does not correspond to the actual position on the screen, since X thinks the touchscreen covers the entire desktop and not only the bottom monitor. After I run the xinput command, X interprets the touches at the right positions, but all those collateral effects take place. However, the problems mentioned in items 1 to 5 in the beginning of the bug report (and many others mouse related problems) always happen, no matter xinput was ran or not. They go away if I install the package xserver-xorg-input-tslib, but then the touchscreen is disabled ("xinput list" then lists two touchscreen devices with the same name, but the touchscreen does not respond) Is there any test I can do to provide more info that could help to solve this issue? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1005321 Title: Several pointing device related problems occur when a touchscreen is installed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1005321/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently
More follow-up. Today, before starting my VM, I changed the VM's settings. I selected "Disable acceleration for binary translation" and I deselected "Virtualize Intel VT-x/EPT or AMD-V/RVI." And good news: no freezes! I've been moving my mouse about the desktop with reckless abandon all day, and there's been nary a hiccup. My initial reaction, though, is that it's pure consequence. Unless, of course, everyone reporting this bug also happens to be running some kind of VM? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1007183] Re: Xorg crash
There is a file "_sbin_Xorg.0.crash" in /var/crash. When the system does successfully boot, running ubuntu-bug from the command line gives me the opportunity to create this bug. Sometime our systems with this hardware and software combo boot OK. Sometimes we get a black screen. Sometimes we get a black screen with a mouse cursor. Sometimes we get a text login prompt. After a text login, sometimes "startx" will work, sometimes not. Sometimes we get GRUB menu (I think this is from GRUB failure recovery?). Sometimes we get "mountall: Disconnected from Plymouth" Pressing enter at this point allows the system to boot. We are reviewing all the system logs trying to determine the cause (or at least a work-around). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently
Same here... applied all updates. Nothing helps. In my case it also sometimes leads to corruption of a file in my IDE (IntelliJ's workspace.xml), probably because for some reason IntelliJ keeps this file open at all times while I'm working with it. The observation of the mouse: I guess this is true. Definitely when you have not been working for a minute, and return back to your PC to continue, and start handling the mouse again. Also no mouse pointer visible anymore. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/993187 Title: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/993187/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
