[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1788044] Re: task kworker blocked for more than 120 seconds nouveau
I have found a fix. First I tried adding "nouveau.modeset=0" to bootflags, which got me to boot but no greeter. sddm appeared to be happily running but it failed to start the display server restarting it did not help "startx" worked, which gave me hope It appeared the session "seat" had been determined by systemd to have "CanGraphical" false Then I found this: https://github.com/mikhailnov/systemd/commit/c00bf275fdfbad3a9db8934b5e266b6abbdb8443 There's a heuristic hack which sets CanGraphical when the kernel starts w/o graphics, but only if this is done via "nomodeset" rather than the driver-specific ".modeset" flags So I just added "nomodeset" to boot flags, and now not only does 6.5.0-28 boot and land at a working greeter again, but all the weird sddm graphics bugs i'd been encountering since 6.5 are gone. Hope this helps someone else... And maybe this kernel issue will get fixed, some day -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1788044 Title: task kworker blocked for more than 120 seconds nouveau To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1788044/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1788044] Re: task kworker blocked for more than 120 seconds nouveau
This is the closest, most recent report I could find with something which also appears kernel related Kernel 6.5.0-27 -- works fine Kernel 6.5.0-28 -- graphics hard-hangs - sddm never displays, vtty can't be activated shh works, sddm and x11 processes can not be killed, reboot hangs, hard power cycle required I see reports like this literally for years, yet seemingly no resolution. Now I'm bit, in a way suspiciously kernel version related Common internet "use nvidia drivers" wisdom is unworkable as old nvidia hardware is not supported on 22.04 04:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation MCP89 [GeForce 320M] (rev a2) Again, for me, this is with 22.04, kernel 6.5.0-28 All the various combinations of nouveau flags to kernel boot which have helped reduce garbage or sddm troubles don't help. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1960569] Re: Screen goes dim
@Daniel .. Thanks. * I think brightness-controller is a thin UI around xrandr. If something in Ubuntu is improperly changing "Brightness" and xrandr is the only cure, why remove brightness-controller? Or, do your comments about it apply equally to xrandr -- namely that I should avoid xrandr, too? * I rebooted and chose "GNOME" (one of two identically-named options); I'll report back when (if) the screens go dim again. If things stay stable, I will report back later to help close (and blame MATE). I did not notice whether one login option said "on Xorg"; I'll look for that next time. * Thinking back, I wonder if a screensaver was implicated in the problem. * (Unrelated) I liked the GNOME UI on 20.10; MATE 21.10 has some annoying differences, so I am happy to learn how to go back to GNOME while staying with the same version Ubuntu. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1960569 Title: Screen goes dim To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1960569/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1133046] Re: Second monitor's desktop is placed on top of the first at login
Additional information: I deleted ~/.config/monitors.xml and let it be re-created the next time I logged in and set up my monitor configuration using the Displays dialog under System Settings. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1133046] [NEW] Second monitor's desktop is placed on top of the first at login
Public bug reported: I have my laptop hooked up to an external monitor. Each time I log in, both monitors occupy the same space. I have to open the Displays section of System Settings and drag the monitors around to re-postion them. I have attached a screenshot to illustrate. It can be seen in the Displays dialog that the salmon-colored Laptop screen is behind the external monitor (its edges are barely visible). I have not seen this repeated in the last several startups. After updating this morning (approx 16:00 UTC Sat 29 Sep) the installed versions of the packages you listed are (apt-cache show pkg): openssh No packages found sssd1.9.0~rc1-0ubuntu1 xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.20.8-0ubuntu2 xserver-xorg-video-intel-precise2No packages found xserver-xorg-video-trident 1:1.3.6-0ubuntu2 and the failure did not appear after restart. I am hesitant to install older versions of the packages that already have newer versions unless the purpose is to establish a baseline behavior. I would also wait to install this patch untiI can replicate the failure consistently, if at all. -- - tony I come from the nowhere, I go to the noplace, und here I am! [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1035555] Re: dual monitor cursor jumps across screen when crossing display edge
After a lot of manipulation, including switching to nouveau and back to nvidia a few times, the problem has now disappeared. Looking at the lastmod date on /etc/X11/xorg.conf, this should have occurred Aug-12 16:07 or later. But since I was under a crash deadline and lack of sleep, I wasn't able to analyze exactly what had happened. I am attaching a couple of files to capture the state of the current working system: * /etc/X11/xorg.conf as ** Attachment added: perhaps no solution, but current state of working system https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-nouveau/+bug/103/+attachment/3263900/+files/works-XorgConf.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/103 Title: dual monitor cursor jumps across screen when crossing display edge To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-nouveau/+bug/103/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1035555] Re: dual monitor cursor jumps across screen when crossing display edge
Previous comment is incomplete. I am attaching a couple of files from the working system: * /etc/X11/xorg.conf - as works-XorgConf.txt * /var/log/dpkg.log - as works-DpkgLog.txt As I recall, I had worked myself into a state of one usable monitor and one all white monitor with primitive X cursor, but cursor about to move between screens. I don't know what that was about. When I left that state, the system suddenly working. So as of today (actually, at least a couple of days ago), the cursor and displays are now working properly, but I don't know why. ** Attachment added: dpkg.log after problem disappeared https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-nouveau/+bug/103/+attachment/3263927/+files/works-DpkgLog.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/103 Title: dual monitor cursor jumps across screen when crossing display edge To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-nouveau/+bug/103/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1035555] [NEW] dual monitor cursor jumps across screen when crossing display edge
Public bug reported: I recently updated my system to 12.04; it has two screens driven by an NVidia GeForce 8400GS graphics card. Xinerama is enabled. When I move the mouse left across screens, it jumps from left edge of one to left edge of the other. It does not do this in the reverse direction. This right-to-left behavior is really weird; left-to-right is okay. More details: * xorg.conf shows screen 0 is left, screen 1 is right, and Xinerama is enabled. (See below.) * Moving the mouse on the desktop from screen 1 to 0 (i.e., to the left), it leaves the left edge of screen 1 and shows up on the left edge of screen 0; it does not glide across screen 0 to get there... unless I move across the edge at !very! slow speed; I can then pick up speed after crossing, and it behaves normally. (Yes, speed sensitive.) * It does not do this when moving right (screen 0 to screen 1). In that case, it mouse glides across the desktop with no problem. To add some confusion, running 'nvidia-settings', it talks about a single screen and two displays. * X Screen 0 shows dimensions 2960x1050, and displays Dell 2005FPW (DFP-0) and Sharp LL-172C-B (CRT-1). * GPU 0 shows: - CRT-1 (Sharp) refresh rate (60.02 Hz), but no dimensions; - DFP-0 (Dell) resolution 1680x1050 and refresh rate of 59.88 Hz, 'Full Force GPU Scaling', GPU Scaling Method: 'Stretched'. (But it looks fine to me.) [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 965003] Re: dell mini 10v touchpad dragging stopped working
Ok, I figured out what is going on. Many releases ago, I was trained to use just my fingernail on the bottom edge of the trackpad for left clicking while scrolling. If I do that now, drag and drop does not work. If I use my finger more fully on the button area, it works. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid = Won't Fix ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics (Ubuntu) Importance: High = Low -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/965003 Title: dell mini 10v touchpad dragging stopped working To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/965003/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
