[Unattended] Windows setup hangs 9 minutes before the end
We're encountering the following problem: Windows setup hangs, quite frequently, and totaly randomly, 9 minutes before the end. The machine is not blocked, just waiting for something... When setup hangs, the display shows : Setup end 9 minutes Saving parameters (translation from French, might not be absolutely precise) The only solution is to reboot the machine so that Windows resumes setup from 39 minutes before the end. The problem occurs on any hardware client configuration, so it's not linked to a particular hardware configuration. When setup hangs at 9 minutes, rebooting on a live-cd gives access to the logs. setuperr.log files reads : Error: Setup has encountered the following unhandled exception: Exception c005 at address 76C2310D with the following parameters: 010BE000 This error does not occur when setup does not hang, so I presume it's this exception which is causing the problem. I have no clue as to what is causing this error, nor how to solve it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The problem seems to be known. possibilities: 1. don't create NTFS partitions, windows will create it for you anyway if you instruct it to do so. OK, but how to do ? I don't found any explanation about the syntax of these options /spec:pri:50,100 .. I tried the fdisk_cmd without the /spec:7 option. Does'nt work I tried fdisk_cmd=fdisk /clear 1; fdisk /pri: 12000; fdisk /activate:1 Does'nt work the generated command was: parted -s /dev/dsk --mkpartfs primary fat32 0 12000 parted -s /dev/dsk --set 1 boot on Always the disk is unpartioned. It has always the maximum size. 2. use newer version of parted (NTLDR not found problems? ) The used parted version is very old 1.6.22. The actual is 1.8.8 But how to compile it ? It's dependend of the libc.so version if i can spare some time the next weeks i'll try to see what can be done about it. (I think that i myself now just use the entire disk for workstations that are installed, since any data is being saved on the Samba PDC, and as such there is no more benefit for me in using more than 1 partition) and maybe some examples (idea: maybe we can just use parted to create partition table, and use ntfs-3g stuff to actually create the NTFS partitions? but i dont even know if that can do it) It is perhaps sufficient, because the installer creates a fat 32 file system (4 GO size) on the first partion, and, after windows format the partion in Ntfs. anyway, while googling around i found out the *Florian Effenberger *is trying to contact the people behind parted to see where the problem lies...
