Re: [Unattended] Unattended 4.9 - Linuxboot - Keyboard : SOLUTION

2010-07-15 Thread Regis Gras

Nicolas BOURGES wrote:

Hi,

I have a problem with the keyboard map in the pxe boot (4.9).

When I use kdb=fr to set keyboard in French, it doesn't work. I get
a qwerty configuration keyboard.

Have you any idea to solve this problem ?
The configuration of the keyboard is done by the commande loadkeys in
.../etc/master

loadkeys needs some map to work
loadkeys searchs key maps in /share/keymaps/i386/azerty (for the
french keyboard)

The /share directory is mapped with Z
.../unattended-4.9/install/linuxaux/share/keymaps/i386/azerty ...

When the command loadkeys is started, Z is not mapped, and
/share/keymaps/i386/azerty

is empty . so loadkeys fails

To solve this problem, I modified .../etc/master to restart the loadkeys
command, just before the call for install.pl

# MODIF 15 Juillet 2010
# Configure the keyboard, if requested.
kbd=$(get_cmdline_param kbd)
[ -n $kbd ] \
loadkeys ${kbd#*=}
# A little sleep to see the result of the loadkeys command
sleep 5

perl -I/z/lib /z/dosbin/install.pl \
   || die install.pl exited non-zero
# End MODIF

But this modification should be in the initrd wich is loaded.
So, you have to uncompress initrd, modify .../etc/master and rebuild the
initrd

[Unattended] Keyboard problem with unattended 4.9 (Continuation)

2010-05-04 Thread Regis Gras

 I am installing unattended 4.9

  PXE boot is working.
When the PXE boot starts, I see:

   Loading bzImage .
   Loading initrd

While initrd is loading, the keyboard is active. The keyboard's
control disappears, just

after loading initrd

I use bzImage and initrd from:

   .../unattended-4.9/linuxboot/tftpboot

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1378656 Feb 11 13:32 bzImage

-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root16466 Feb 11 13:50 pxelinux.0

In pxelinux.cfg, default is:

append initrd=initrd z_path=\\W.X.Y.Z z_user=admin z_pass=x
kbd=fr-latin1

Could someone tell me how to do to use the keyboard ?

[Unattended] How to do a sleep in package installation ?

2010-01-20 Thread Regis Gras

Hi,

I am using unattended to install packages after the initial installation.

So, on an already installed PC, as admin, I mount the Z drive.
With C:\netinst\mapzrun, I give a correct login/password and Z is connected.

Now to install a new package, in a cmd windows:
perl Z:\bin\todo.pl package-to-install.bat
perl Z:\bin\todo.pl --go.
This method works fine.

For some installations, I need to use a sleep for a few seconds (15)

In \install\bin, I wrote sleep15.pl
# Wait 15 seconds
use warnings;
use strict;
my $seconde=15;
sleep($seconde);
exit 0;

And in \install\script, I wrote sleep15.bat
:: sleep 15 seconds
@Echo off
perl Z:\bin\sleep15.pl

To wait 15 second after the installation of package-to-install.bat, I do:
perl Z:\bin\todo.pl sleep15.bat
perl Z:\bin\todo.pl package-to-install.bat
perl Z:\bin\todo.pl --go.

This method doesn't work and I have a lot of troubles with sleep15.bat
When sleep15.bat is started, it seems that perl is reinstalled (see img.jpg)

Could someone tell me what is wrong and how to do to wait 15 seconds in a
script.bat ?

Sincerely,

[Unattended] Windows setup hangs 9 minutes before the end

2008-07-22 Thread Regis Gras
We're encountering the following problem:

Windows setup hangs, quite frequently, and totaly randomly, 9 minutes
before the end.

The machine is not blocked, just waiting for something...

When setup hangs, the display shows :
Setup end 9 minutes Saving parameters (translation from French,
might not be absolutely precise)

The only solution is to reboot the machine so that Windows resumes setup
from 39 minutes before the end.

The problem occurs on any hardware client configuration, so it's not
linked to a particular hardware configuration.

When setup hangs at 9 minutes, rebooting on a live-cd gives access to
the logs. setuperr.log files reads :

Error:
Setup has encountered the following unhandled exception:
Exception c005 at address 76C2310D with the following parameters:
 010BE000

This error does not occur when setup does not hang, so I presume it's
this exception which is causing the problem.

I have no clue as to what is causing this error, nor how to solve it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

my $ret = menu_choice

'Run partitioning tool manually (experts only)' =

 *'Keep old partitioning ' = $keep_partitioning,*
 'Whole disk C:', =
 'fdisk /pri:100,100',

 '50% C:, 50% D:' =
 'fdisk /pri:50,100;fdisk /pri:50,100 /spec:7',
 );

 defined $ret
 or return undef;

*if ( $ret eq $keep_partitioning ) {
 $ret = $post_cmds;
 return $ret;

$ret eq $interactive_cmd

Re: [Unattended] Partitioning sheme

2008-04-25 Thread Regis Gras
I do'nt explain correctly what I want.

- If, in a first time, I install a WXP with the unattended method,
I have a PC with (for example) 12 G C, rest D.
- If later I decide to reinstal it, I start again unattended, with
exactly the same
partitioning sheme (ie I choose 12 G C; rest D). Then, all the data on
the D
partition are preserved.

- So, if a WXP was installed with an other method, the partitioning
sheme
may be different. For example 15.5 G C; rest D.

My question is: How to use the partitioning sheme to reinstall on C
and preserve D ?

Do nothing (continue) , because I hoped it installs on the existing
partition C
without destroy the others partitions.

When nt5x-install start, it said:
.
mounting to soon-to-be 'C' drive
mount: mounting /dev/dsk1 on /C failed: invalid argument

and the disk is completly destroyed ..

Just one question.
Is it possible to install WXP with unattended on a already existing

I am not very sure that the problem comes with kernel.

In Fedora core 8, the kernel is 2.6.24.4 and the network driver
Optiplex 755 works
Furthermore, I have exactly the same problem with Dell XPS 1330.
It freezes after Dhcp discover.
Ctrl C cd /etcand ./master restart the installation.

Perhaps, the problem is with the compiling options of the kernel ?

 What do you think ?

[Unattended] Network driver for Dell Optiplex 755 does'nt work.

I compiled CVS on on a FC4, a CentOS5

The network driver never works.
Always the Dell freezes when trying access network. The messages are:

  ... MSI interrupt error: -1
eth0: 10/100 speed: disabling TSO

As said Andres,
I Ctrl+C and tried /etc/master manually and, then, all works.
 That works for me too

Juan Jose suggests:

1) wait for 2.6.25 kernel
2) Modify Makefile and use 2.6.25-rc8
3) Report your problem on kernel.org
4) use latest version of http://sourceforge.net/projects/e1000

I tried to use the e1000 driver in unattended-4.8. Same problem.
I tried to use linux-2.6.25-rc8, but it fails and complains:
Could not load /lib/modules/2.6.25-rc8/modules.dep: No such file or dirctory

I changed nothing in the Makefile, just download directly

[Unattended] Always lot of problems with unattended-4.8 and CVS ...

2008-04-08 Thread Regis Gras

I have two machines to test cvs and unattended-4.8
- An old PC
- An Dell Optiplex 755. (I tried two Dell, with bios release A04 and A04
and the problems are the same)

I try to compile cvs and unattended with two computers:
- FC4:glibc-2.3.6-3 and kernel-2.6.17-12142-FC4
- CentOS5:glibc-2.5.18.el5_1.1 and kernel-2.6.18-53.1.14.el5

Compiling on FC4: (Packages used: glibc-2.3.6, linux-2.6.24.4)

CVS:
 Old PC: libparted-1.6.so.12 not found
Network driver and mount CIF: OK
Dell 755: MSI interrupt error: -1
eth0: 10/100 speed: disabling TSO and the
Dell freezes
 Unattended-4.8:
  Old PC: libparted-1.6.so.12 not found. Network driver OK;
mount CIF OK
Dell 755: MSI interrupt error: -1
eth0: 10/100 speed: disabling TSO and the
Dell freezes

-
Compiliging on CentOS5: (Packages used: glibc-2.5 linux-2.6.24.4)
-
CVS:
Old PC: find-boot-device: segfault find-boot-device failed
Dell 755: MSI interrupt error: -1 ... disabling TSO ...
 Unattended-4.8:
Old PC: find-boot-device: segfault find-boot-device failed
Dell 755: MSI interrupt error: -1 ... disabling TSO ...

In all my tests, the network driver for Dell 755 never works.
It's strange, it works for many people

More strange.
I compiled unattended-4.7 with a patch for the e1000 driver and a patch
for using
nt5x-install, and it works fine.

Could some one tell me what are the good options (or the good version of
packages)
to compile CVS or unattended-4.8

[Unattended] lot of problems with unattended-4.8 and CVS ...

2008-04-07 Thread Regis Gras
I complided CVS and unattended-4.8 on CentOS 5
glib glibc-2.5-18.el5_1.1
kernel kernel-2.6.18-8.el5
gcc gcc-4.1.2-14.el5
The ntinstall server is samba-3.0.24

In CVS and unattended, I downloaded glibc-2.5 and I used linux-2.6.24.4

On both, the network driver does'nt work
The computer freezes with the message:
*** Now that we have loaded the modules (maybe) let's try DHCP ...
   *** Trying DHCP on eth0
   udhcpc (v1.9.2) started
:00:19.0 :eth0 Unable to allocate MSI Interrupt Error -1
   Sending Discover
:00:19.0 :eth0: Link is up 100 Mbps Full Duplex Flow Control: RX/TX
   :00:19.0 :eth0: 10/100 speed: disabling TSO

As suggered by Matt Hyclak, I testded on DEll Optiplex 755 with Bios
release A4 and A8
Both does'nt work

I tried cvs and unattended 4-8 on an other older computer.
Network is OK, but ... samba does'nt work
Failed to mount /z

With unattended-4.7 the smbmount works
I tried to recompile with samba-3.0.20. Same problem, impossible to mount Z/

I saw in the release notes, use cifs instead of smbfs
What have I to change in the server ntinstal ?

I saw that some people compile cvs ans unattended-4.8 without problem ...
Could you tell me what configuration you are using for your server
ntinstall
and what configuration you are using to compile cvs and unattended-4.8

With the attached patch. Just put a hosts file in linuxboot/misc/ and it
will be copied to the boot disk (likewise the ramdisk for pxe boot).

I tried to copy your file in my cvs directory and execute the command

It is sufficient to write a file etc/hosts in linuxboot/misc ??

In e1000-7.6.15.5.tar.gz ?

[Unattended] Compiling unattended with nt5x-install patches

2008-04-01 Thread Regis Gras
I want to use nt5x-install to accept filename 8.3.3
I want to use the new network e1000 driver (Dell Optiplex 755)
So, I compiled the official unattended-4.7 version. (not CVS)
I had a lot of problems with samba and finaly, I used samba-3.0.20

As you said me, the procedure was:

- Patch unattended with altdosemu-2008-03-17.tar.gz
and the 3 patchs altdosemu-xxx.patch
- I modified Makefile to use samba-3.0.20
make download
- Modification of linux-xxx/driver/net/e1000
make tftpboot.

The compiling was OK and I started an PXE installation.

network is OK
mounting Z /ntinstall/install OK
- /usr/bin/nt5x-install -
start, but immediatly stop with this messages:

program parted is using deprecated SCSI ioctl ..
* Saving existing disk geometry into /dev/dsk1
* Writing ntlbr-boot-code-sector0 into /dev/dsk1
* Writing ntlbr-boot-code-sector12 into /dev/dsk1
* Writing saved disk geometry back into /dev/dsk1

could not write C/netinst/partgeo.bin into /dev/dsk1
dropping to shell

The versions used are:
build-glibc-2.3.6 linux-2.6.23.11 glibc-2.3.6 parted-1.6.22

Do you know this problem ?

Anyway, You said me, that with the CVS I have to apply your patch for
nt5x-install.
Your patch in http://www.source-exchange.de/unattended/nils/ contains:
linuxboot.iso and install.tar.gz
But, your kernel don'n use the new E1000 driver.
For this reason, I compiled a new kernel with a patch for the E1000
network driver.

I can't compile the CVS version, but the unattended.4-7 official with
the E1000 driver
works fine with the network and fails with filename 8.3.3

So, could you tell me if it is possible to merge nt5x-install with the
official unattended.4-7
and if yes .. how to do.

Re: [Unattended] Problem while transfering files

2008-03-28 Thread Regis Gras

On Mars 18,2008 you write

- login to CVS (in one line):
cvs -d:pserver:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/cvsroot/unattended
login

(just hit enter when asked for password)

-download from CVS (in one line):
cvs -z3 -d:pserver:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/cvsroot/unattended
co -P unattended

You now have downloaded the unattended build-source from CVS :)

OK, I done

While standing in the same directory:
extract the .tar.gz into the unattended directory structure

I am sorry, but where is is this tar.gz ?
On http://www.source-exchange.de/unattended/nils/

(adds the ntldr binaries and the nt5x-install script to the unattended tree)
and apply the patches.

Where is the ntdlr binaries ?
Where is the nt5x-install scrip ?

apply the 3 patches like this:
patch -p0 altdosemu-xxx.patch

I don't find anything
Nor ntdlr binaries, nor nt5x-install scrip nor altdosemu-xxx.patch

Could you tell me how to find these 3 parts ?

Now you are ready to do a make download

After the package download is done, add your tweaks to the kernel

 And finally:
make or make iso or make tftpboot
in the linuxboot directory.

From this point, I know what to do ..

You said that libcap was removed.
You are right, all references of libcap il the Makefiles are in comment.

[maguelone]-rgras# cd unattended-4.7
[maguelone]-rgras# find . -name ?akefile -exec grep libcap {} \;
# libcap.so is required by smbclient

LDFLAGS=$(fakelib_cflags)
#$(call copy_lib,$(libcap)/libcap/libcap.so.1,stage1/lib/libcap.so.1)
#stage1 += stage1/lib/libcap.so.1

Perhaps the compiling failed ...
So, I remove all samba-3.0.27a, and then:
make download
make tftpboot
No error, but always the same problem
I do'nt understand why Failed to mount /z

Any idea ?

I got around the 8.3 filename issue by using a $$Rename.txt file saved
in my distribution share.

http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsserver/en/library/3d64370b-d9bf
-4a31-abcf-6f1da86ef8641033.mspx?mfr=true has details on using a
$$Rename.txt file but I'm not sure if it's 100% accurate. It didn't
work when I had the $$Rename.txt in the same folder as the long
filename. It worked when I saved it in $oem$\$1\$$Rename.txt. The file
specified where the long file was, what the name was being truncated to
and what it should be renamed as:

[\drivers\V1400\03\R165797]
IGMED~V3.DLL=igmedcompkrn.dll

I have a lot of file with xxx.3.3 filename. (Exactly 32)
[node1]-root# ll *.???.???
-rw-r--r-- 1 admin admin 1355 Mar 3 14:02 ADMPARSE.DLL.MU_
...
-rw-r--r-- 1 admin admin 9526 Mar 3 14:05 WININET.DLL.MU_

and the installer complains for each file.

For an example, ADMPARSE.DLL.MU_ appears in DOSNET.INF
[Files]
..
d1,admparse.dll.mui

and in TXTSETUP.SIF
[SourceDisksFiles.x86]
...
dmparse.dll.mui = 1,,,1974,0,0

What must be the content of $oem$\$1\$$Rename.txt ? (Just for
admparse.dll.mui)
and what are the modifications to do in DOSNET.INF and TXTSETUP.SIF

[Unattended] Failed to mount /Z on Dell Optiplex 755

2008-03-17 Thread Regis Gras
I had a problem with the Dell Optiplex 755. The network card was not
recognized

On this list, I found that the solution was to recompile the kernel with
a new driver e1000.

I downloaded unattended-4.7.zip from unattended.sourceforge.net
I changed the driver E1000, and recompiled the kernel.
The kernel was compiled, without any error

Now, with the boot PXE, the network card is recognized, but it can't
mount
z: \\ntinstall\install

The error message is:
*** Trying smbmount
\\ntinstall\install /z -o ttl=6,username=guest,ro
Smbmount: error while loading shared libraries:
lbcap.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
*** smbmount failed

mount error: could not find target server. TCP name ntinstall/install
not found.
No IP adress specified and host name not found
*** mount.cifs failed

*** Dropping to shell

I do'nt undertand what's happens
ping to the server address works, and smb works on the server. On a PC
Windows, it is possible
to do: net use Z: \\ntinstall\install /user%guest

Could someone tell me how to solve this problem ?

It is. I've had the same problem with a graphics driver for some onboard gfx
card on a MSI board.

I had this problem with file name 8.3.3

This problem was solved using a patch
you can download the full package here:
http://www.source-exchange.de/unattended/nils/

look in install.tar.gz install/linuxaux/usr/lib

Please note: These changes are not included in this release (4.7),
but are meat for the next one.

This package works fine. Just a problem in parted.
To correct this new problem, you have to load a new version for
dosbin/install.pl
You will find this new version in sourceforege . cvs install.pl

Hope it help

[Unattended] Parted does'nt work with unattended 4-7

2008-02-04 Thread Regis Gras
I am using unattended 4-7, patched with nt5x-install.

In this version, parted does'nt work.
If I want to partition a disk, parted says:

Program parted is using a deprecated SCSI ioct, please convert to SG_IO
Error: Unable to satisfy all contraints of the partition.

And the disk is'nt partitionned

The problem seems to be known. The version of parted is too hold.
Could some one tell me
- Which version of parted is to be used ?
- How to install it ?

This is a problem that has been brought up before, and about the
 solution, well..

Thank you. The problem seems to be known.

 possibilities:
 1. don't create NTFS partitions, windows will create it for you anyway
if you instruct it to do so.

OK, but how to do ?

I don't found any explanation about the syntax of these options
/spec:pri:50,100 ..

I tried the fdisk_cmd without the /spec:7 option. Does'nt work
I tried fdisk_cmd=fdisk /clear 1; fdisk /pri: 12000; fdisk
/activate:1 Does'nt work
the generated command was:
parted -s /dev/dsk --mkpartfs primary fat32 0 12000
parted -s /dev/dsk --set 1 boot on

Always the disk is unpartioned. It has always the maximum size.

 2. use newer version of parted (NTLDR not found problems? )

The used parted version is very old 1.6.22. The actual is 1.8.8
But how to compile it ? It's dependend of the libc.so version

if i can spare some time the next weeks i'll try to see what can be
done about it. (I think that i myself now just use the entire disk for
workstations that are installed, since any data is being saved on the
Samba PDC, and as such there is no more benefit for me in using more
than 1 partition) and maybe some examples (idea: maybe we can just use
parted to create partition table, and use ntfs-3g stuff to actually
create the NTFS partitions? but i dont even know if that can do it)

It is perhaps sufficient, because the installer creates a fat 32 file
system (4 GO size) on the first partion, and, after
windows format the partion in Ntfs.

anyway, while googling around i found out the *Florian Effenberger *is
trying to contact the people behind parted to see where the problem
 lies...

SEE CONTINUATION BELOW

Sounds like you have the patched install.pl (it is install.pl that asks the
DOSEMU question)
but somehow the master script does not get the parameter from unattend.txt to
run the nt5-install script, or it does not now about nt5x-install at all.

if you go to the console after the unattended linux PXE bootup (alt-F2) and
type
cat /etc/master
you should get something like this:
-- last part of nt5x-install -aware master --
else
echo -e * Running ntinstall_cmd: $ntinstall_cmd
$ntinstall_cmd || die * $ntinstall_cmd exited non-zero
fi

# Installation is now complete, /c is mounted, some adjustments (if any)
follows..

post_ntinstall_cmd=`parse_ini_file /c/netinst/unattend.txt _meta
post_ntinstall_cmd`
if [ -n $post_ntinstall_cmd ] ; then
echo -e * Running post_ntinstall_cmd: $post_ntinstall_cmd
$post_ntinstall_cmd || die * $post_ntinstall_cmd exited non-zero
fi

sync
umount /c

echo all done!

reboot

exec bash
-- end of nt5x-install-aware master script

That is /etc/master when I boot from CDROM

if you have the stock CVS or 4.7 master script, its ending like this:
-
if [ -z $active_part ] ; then
echo Partition table: 2
parted /dev/dsk print 2
die No active partition found!
fi

cp /etc/dosemu/dosemu.conf /tmp
echo \$_hdimage = \/dev/dsk$active_part\ /tmp/dosemu.conf

# DOSEMU always exits non-zero. FIXME.
dosemu.bin -f /tmp/dosemu.conf

sync
reboot

exec bash
--

That is /etc/master when I boot from Pxe.
You right.

it does not now about nt5x-install at all.

CONTINUATION ..

The patch from http://www.source-exchange.de/unattended/nils/
contains only the directory install and linuxboot.iso
initrd and bzimage are not provided

So with this two file, the boot pxe do not work.
But using initrd and bzimage from linuxboot.iso ... pxe boot
use nt5x-install and works fine.

[Unattended] Problem while transfering files

2008-01-21 Thread Regis Gras
I am using unattended 4-7 to install PC with WXP.
I use unattended, only for the PXE boot, I make I386 with nLite.

So, I created a iso image and burn a CD with nLite. I tested this CD, it
works fine.
I copied the I386 directory in /install/os/DIST/I386
Then, I started the boot with PXE and asked to install DIST.

The installation begins, and then I have a tranfert problem with some
files, always
the same (extmgr.dll.mui ... hmmapi.dll.mui )
I have exactly the same problem, with the same files if I try to install
with
the bootdisk provided by unattended 4-7

In ./install/os/DIST/I386, the file exists, and it is exactly the
same than in the
nLite CD (same md5sum)

The right on /install/os/DIST/I386/ are:
-rwxr--r-- 1 guest guest 2643 Jan 21 10:40 EXTMGR.DLL.MU_

Could someone explain me what happen and howto bypass this problem ?
