Something clever happens with XBMc on my odroid device. There is a function in XBMC to turn off the device and this can also turn off the Television attached to the odroid. This suggests there is a control function that is implementable via the hdmi connection. (the only other possibility being the ethernet port). If you want a low power server the odroid does the job very satisfactorily. Any similar small form computer with adequate power should do the job. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCoPlayer = Squeezelite on Microcore linux. .An embedded OS in RAM with Squeezelite
There is the option to change the remote control protocol in the squeezebox. This means you can have two in one room with different controllers. The alternative is jvc dvd control. See player settings remote on LMS. Another bodge is to put a bit of tape over the IR receptor on one box. If you set the volume as fixed rather than 100%, the volume control on the variable squeezebox shouldn't affect the fixed one. Again see settings audio on your player interface. Finally use a diferent remote preamp on both devices. SamS wrote: Thanks. I may be misinterpreting your testing methods, but I don't think you're testing in a way to reproduce? The analog outputs of the HiFiBerry will not reproduce the glitch, you must use the built-in mini-audio jack. I'm thinking that the manner in which you're testing HDMI (running through TV, then optical out) just has too many variables in the signal path to identify the glitch issue. I tested with HDMI audio into an A/V processor, and the glitch was identical to what I hear with the analog output. Thanks for posting your LMS details. Ours are similar enough, although I'm using OS X Mavericks plus 7.8.1 for the server. However I experienced the same issue with 7.9. And I don't think it's LMS to blame, I think it has to do with Squeezelite running on the pCP. EDIT: Also, LMS needs to be set up to play other songs. This is because I think the problems occurs because LMS is sending the next track to the pCP at -10 seconds, and the is a buffer problem. LMS - Settings - Player - Basic Settings - Play Other Songs In Album - select Play other songs in album or directory Hi, As I explained the analogue output is from the raspberry pi (jack socket). My hifiberry is a digi so the only analogue out that I have is the jack. I have tried the tracks in various ways. one track, several tracks and an album. I move the play point to about 20 seconds and play it through the junction form one track to the next. The HDMI out goes to a TV, but any dropout would be noticed. Sam, You seem to be having something strange going on. I'm genuinely trying to reproduce your fault, but not succeeded. I'll do some other things if it will help. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCoPlayer = Squeezelite on Microcore linux. .An embedded OS in RAM with Squeezelite
If problems occur due to issues with how-tos/FAQs, i would suggest a gentle request for an update. Trying to get going with some of these devices is often a bit of a minefield, but remember many of the developers work on their projects part time and often have several bugs to sort out all at the same time. The 80 port change has been there for a short while. This is a relatively new change and there are working earlier versions of picoreplayer that will run very well. If using the latest edition then some problems will occur. I find it great when you can actually get round any issues and things work well. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCoPlayer = Squeezelite on Microcore linux. .An embedded OS in RAM with Squeezelite
I have afew devices of the streaming variety. many of them stop from time to time and without obvious cause. Only a few days ago my Transporter stopped working and I had to do a reboot of the OS using hold key1 down while powering up. This has been suggested due to the clock losing connection to one of the chips. I can only guess at power supply blips. One stop a day seems hardly worth worrying about. The effort to find the cause may be great. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCoPlayer = Squeezelite on Microcore linux. .An embedded OS in RAM with Squeezelite
Feedback. picoreplayer 1.17a working well on pi model b, hifiberry digi, wi-pi dongle. For some reason I found persistence required to get to the device working. One issue with 1.17a may be that the dongle is on by default with the settings of a developer. I think that to get it working I had to change the setting to off, reboot with the dongle plugged in and then reset to on. possibly further reboot required when the dongle lights up. Exactly when the scanner starts working I don't know, but inputting the wi-fi settings manually worked for me. I never did get an on line update to 17a from 16 so reinstalled the OS to the SDcard with win32Diskmanager. Finally working on port 80 and the webgui makes sense. Sounds great. Thanks steen and greg. By the way, I would not worry that posts are a bit light here, I would take that as evidence that most have it working without problems. In an earlier post you worried that there only seemed to be about 700 users of the piCorePlayer. I am afraid that is probably just an indication that interest in the Squeezebox system is now pretty niche and only a tiny subset of that niche are prepared to build their own players. I had two friends who used to own Duets. Both have now migrated to Sonos since Logitech stopped making new players. Neither had a need to, they just wanted a shiny new toy. Very few of us really stretch the capabilities of this system beyond what the Sonos can do. Your question is difficult to answer. The device is capable of what squeezelite can play on your hardware ...with the obvious proviso, if your dac won't play 24/192 then neither will *YOUR* piCoreplayer. I use the hifiberry digi into a 24/192 dac so I have a limitation to 24bit. I also use a hifiberry dac so that limits the files I can play when using that board. Other add on boards that take the i2s data from the raspberrypi may have other performance. HDMI seems to a be a bit dodgy, then there's the usb brigade.well, where do you want me to stop? Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCoPlayer = Squeezelite on Microcore linux. .An embedded OS in RAM with Squeezelite
Hi Steen, I've just installed new image 1.14 and now using wipi dongle and hifiberry digi. The player works just like wired with no drop outs. Excellent work. Just a recap for people like me. 1. Download image and install onto SD card. 2. Turn on raspberry pi with wipi dongle and cable ethernet. My interface is 192.168.1.113:8077. 3. Go to wifi settings tab. 4. Click scan button. Copy and paste wifi address. mine looked like this: Available WIFI networks: 1 : BrightBox-** (secure) (Signal strength: 64%) 2 : TALKTALK-** (secure) (Signal strength: 41%) The stars are six 16 base numbers and/or letters. 5. Put your password into box. Click submit and save will connect to this wifi button. 6. Go back to main page and click restart button. Unconnect the wired ethernet cable and blue flashing and success should occur. 7. Slight downside is the boot process takes a while on my machine. 8. New interface (can be found on player settings in squeezelite) 192.168.1.198:8077. Mine's playing as I type. Coms with the LMS (wired from brightbox) seems to be as fast as the wired ethernet and no pops/dropouts noticed. if you aren't a fiddler with your computer then the 10.04 edition might be better as this is a long term support version. I am using 10.10 at the moment and it seems to get better and better. I use kubuntu and so sound has changed, but if you are just using the box as a server then I can't see why you would want to wait. You can always try a live version of ubuntu first. [SlimDevices: Unix] Linux support is beta only??
I have recently made my first request fro support from Logitech and after receiving little help I have now been told that support for linux is beta. Personally i describe myself as a reasonably knowledgeable punter and I am very much on the edge of developer world. The issue that I raised with logitech was about a fundamental issue for quite a large number of linux users. (I would guess). I have received some help but I find the Logitech view seems to imply that I cannot expect any reasonable answer because they only give beta support a bit rich to the volunteer community. Hi Mike, Linux is only supported in a beta level. Presently the issue is resolved in our nightly dev build (7.4.2). If you install mysql-server-5.1 before you install Squeezebox Server 7.4.2 it should be able to install without any issues. You can download the nightly .deb file here http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/?ver=7.4 Regards, Trevor F. Logitech Squeezebox Tier 2 In regard to the above post which is a quote from the last load from support, I can state that the issue is not resolved. If it is resolved I would be rather grateful if Trevor would give me the evidence. The fact that my bug has been closed doesn't mean the matter has been resolved. As you can probably work out I am very disappointed about the response from Logitech. How do you feel about this issue? Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Linux support is beta only??
I now have three replies which are very poor. I am not blaming the developers because I understand that Windows 7 is the current priority. what i am complaining about is the fact that they have given me no new information and after long periods of time. In fact they referred me to a bug that they said was raised by developers. This was total crap because I raised the bug and I am not a developer. I don't expect instant responses or to be treated as someone special, but when a problem arises that appears to be of importance, I expect some sort of rational approach to a request for customer service to the official channels rather than via the Forum. I can cope with much, but sloppy twaddle is not acceptable and I have no choice but to complain, because otherwise how can things improve. Finally i will say that the three devices i have bought amounting to £1,500 I think gives me some call on a decent customer care process. I don't know what has happened with the training of staff over in America. bizarre in my view. When I had a problem with a previous logitech device the customer support was great. SBC is running like a well-oiled machine under 9.04 for me, I have no plans to change anything until well after the holidays. To those of you who upgraded to 9.10 from an earlier version of Ubuntu: how did you expect to benefit from this? After all, 9.04 will be supported until late next year. I'm just curious. You have the correct approach. i tend to mess with things just for the hell of it. SBS keeps changing , but the music sounds the same. (except for my new transporter!). I also use kubuntu and the kde gui is very pleasant to use. My constant fiddling with my computer also gives me the opportunity to learn more console commands etc. -- mudlark SB3CyrusDACXPreXvsESPAudio P09B Active filterNAP140+260ARhapsody, Avondale and Naim cable, Kubuntu Karmic Koala servers, various boxes for storage. Mark Lanctot;482442 Wrote: Actually the 9.04 - 9.10 upgrade was so painless for me that I managed to do it remotely (my video card appears to be having hardware issues). However the Squeezebox Server upgrade didn't go quite as well. I upgraded to 7.4.2 testing as recommended in this thread. Upon the upgrade, I discovered that squeezeboxserver had been uninstalled somehow! Fortunately all the pref files and even the database had been kept, so on reinstall of SBS everything was back. Weird. I think the problems also apply to mysql-client as this has been a problem for me. It goes like this (i think!). SBS has mysql-client-5.0 installed so when the Kubuntu upgrade sees this it would remove SBS. If you had upgraded Mysql-client to 5.1 before upgrading to 9.10 i think it would have worked. -- mudlark SB3CyrusDACXPreXvsESPAudio P09B Active filterNAP140+260ARhapsody, Avondale and Naim cable, Kubuntu Karmic Koala servers, various boxes for storage. Just as an aside it now appears that the chaps at kubuntu have acknowledged that the latest upgrade has been a bit of a dog's breakfast.(My words of course!). And what's minor about slimserver, no wait, squeezecenter, no wait again, squeezeboxserver not installing? Hardly minor... My point is that you had a working system with 9.04 and that 7.4.1 using mysql 5.1 should have been sorted out before. I agree with you if that helps. You might have made your point better if you complained to Logitech directly along the lines of Mysql 5.1 is the Generally Available production release and the current version of Squeezebox server 7.4.1 should be compatible. You can quote me on that. This thread was started by a user and I added to it as a user who has worked out some of the issues associated with the upgrade of kubuntu. complaining about Logitech on this thread just reduces the confidence of users to no benefit. Also the problem is there and needs sorting out so please add to knowledge rather than just having a go. Too bad Logitech lets things like this happen. for goodness sake can you not read? The stable package doesn't get changed, because changes might break other parts of the programme. What gets changed is the proposed next version which is called testing and the number is 7.4.2. I repeat 7.4.2 testing. If you want to fix this problem you should use testing, did I say testingAfter installing testing then change your repository list back to stableYou should have waited for things to settledown before going for 9.10. Do not blame logitech it is not their fault. There is more than enough information for anyone to sort this minor issue out.
