Re: Buying a used apple to run ios simulator.

2020-01-16 Thread Richmond Mathewson via use-livecode
My experience of dual boot machines has been distinctly negative: probably
because of the way my mind works . . .

I'll be merrily working along on one Operating system when some "clever"
idea will occur to me about something
on another operating system: but to try out that idea I have to shutdown my
machine and boot into another OS.

That's why I have a big rooms with 9 computers . . .

Get an Intel Nuc. By far the cheapest, easiest and fastest way to get a
Hackintosh up and running. Lots of youtube about it and tonnes of helpful
people with excellent advice. Works out better than an actual Mac Mini by

Alternative, if you have a decent PC, insert an extra HD or SDD and make

check details here: https://www.tonymacx86.com/ on how to do it

You can nicely play with the iOs Simulator

See if it sits within the models that can be upgraded to MacOS 10.15 .

The A1311 was released in late 2011 and can only be updated to MacOS
10.13.6 !

If you can get your hands on a Late 2012 Mac mini that will upgrade to
MacOS 10.15:

Re: Buying a used apple to run ios simulator.

2020-01-15 Thread Richmond via use-livecode

See if it sits within the models that can be upgraded to MacOS 10.15 . . .

The A1311 was released in late 2011 and can only be updated to MacOS
10.13.6 !

If you can get your hands on a Late 2012 Mac mini that will upgrade to
MacOS 10.15:

Worth a look!

Re: Buying a used apple to run ios simulator.

2020-01-15 Thread Jerry Jensen via use-livecode
It could work, but its pretty long in the tooth. Its a 2011 model.
4GB RAM is not enough these days. It is user-upgradable.
USB 2.0 ports are frustratingly slow and, shall I say, less reliable than 3.0
and above.
That model is at is maximum OS support (10.13). That is also the oldest OS that
is getting security updates, so next year it will probably cease. 10.15 is
current. I don’t know the details of iOS and XCode support versions. Maybe
newer XCode requires newer OS?

Re: Buying a used apple to run ios simulator.

2020-01-15 Thread Greg (Pink) Miller via use-livecode
First, it is around 9 years old, it can't run Catalina and i am 90% sure it
cannot run Mojave.

Sometime in the near future you will no longer be able to upgrade to the
latest version of XCode at which point you will need a new Mac. It is
possible that you already cannot run it.

So, if you want this to last a few years it may not be the best model.

Re: iOS simulator not responding

2019-11-26 Thread Terry Judd via use-livecode
Not sure if it will help, but here's the code I use to create a multiline text
control (pControlName) on iOS that 'overlays' an existing LC field (pObj)

# create a native multiline text control
put the rect of pObj into tRect
# shrink the rect by 1 pixel all around to reveal the object's border
add 1 to item 1 of tRect
add 1 to item 2 of tRect
add -1 to item 3 of tRect
add -1 to item 4 of tRect
mobileControlCreate "multiline", pControlName
mobileControlSet pControlName, "rect", tRect
mobileControlSet pControlName, "opaque", true
mobileControlSet pControlName, "visible", true
mobileControlSet pControlName, "contentType", "plain"
mobileControlSet pControlName, "fontSize", "18"
mobileControlSet pControlName, "textAlign", "left"
mobileControlSet pControlName, "returnKeyType", "default"
mobileControlSet pControlName, "autoCorrectionType", "default"
mobileControlSet pControlName, "autoCapitalizationType", "sentences"
mobileControlSet pControlName, "keyboardStyle", "default"

You use 'editable' and 'enabled' as parameters for mobileControlSet but I don't
use either of those. I use 'opaque' but you don't because you are after a
transparent effect - I wonder whether 'opaque' can be used in conjunction with
'alpha' though?

I have reduced the problem to iOS input fields. Some testing shows that:

* The native fields exist
* Their rect is correct

But they are inactive, can't be tapped, don't show any text even if its
entry is scripted, can't be typed into, can't be focused. They act like
they are invisible.

Here is what I do to create them. This is a generic handler that creates
all input fields throughout the app, and it works fine on Android.
Usually I call it like this: createInputFld "email". The other params
are used only occasionally.

command createInputFld pName,pReturnKey,pMultiline -- native single-line
input
-- pName = any valid fld identifier (long name, ID, etc)
-- pReturnKey = return key type, usually "search"
-- pMultiline = boolean, whether to create a multi-line input
put (the rect of control pName) into tRect
subtract 10 from item 2 of tRect -- adjust for mobile
add 10 to item 4 of tRect -- may not need for iOS
   if pMultiLine = true then
 mobileControlCreate "multiline", pName
   else
 mobileControlCreate "input", pName
   end if
   mobileControlSet pName, "rect", tRect
   mobileControlSet pName, "autoCapitalizationType", "none"
   mobileControlSet pName, "autoCorrectionType", "no"
   mobileControlSet pName, "enabled", true
mobileControlSet pName, "editable", true -- multiline only (?)
mobileControlSet pName, "alpha", 0 -- transparent
mobileControlSet pName, "textalign", the effective textalign of
control pName
mobileControlSet pName, "textColor", the effective textcolor of
control pName
if pReturnKey <> "" then mobileControlSet pName, "returnKeyType",
pReturnKey -- usually "search"

The fields on the first card are plain input fields, but I have a
question about multiline fields. The docs are a bit confusing. I pass
the parameter to Android and it does what I want. But I'm not clear
whether that works on iOS. The docs say that multiline fields are
applicable to both platforms, but mobileControlCreate info says it is
Android only. There is also a separate iOS command to create a multiline
field. How does all this work?

Multiline isn't applicable to the immediate issue, where I can't get
past the first two plain input fields.

Re: iOS simulator not responding

2019-11-26 Thread J. Landman Gay via use-livecode

I have reduced the problem to iOS input fields. Some testing shows that:

* The native fields exist
* Their rect is correct
* If I script their text data, it is there and can be retrieved

But they are inactive, can't be tapped, don't show any text even if its
entry is scripted, can't be typed into, can't be focused. They act like
they are invisible.

Here is what I do to create them. This is a generic handler that creates
all input fields throughout the app, and it works fine on Android.
Usually I call it like this: createInputFld "email". The other params
are used only occasionally.

command createInputFld pName,pReturnKey,pMultiline -- native single-line
input

-- pName = any valid fld identifier (long name, ID, etc)
-- pReturnKey = return key type, usually "search"
-- pMultiline = boolean, whether to create a multi-line input
put (the rect of control pName) into tRect
subtract 10 from item 2 of tRect -- adjust for mobile
add 10 to item 4 of tRect -- may not need for iOS
  if pMultiLine = true then
mobileControlCreate "multiline", pName
  else
mobileControlCreate "input", pName
  end if
  mobileControlSet pName, "rect", tRect
  mobileControlSet pName, "autoCapitalizationType", "none"
  mobileControlSet pName, "autoCorrectionType", "no"
  mobileControlSet pName, "enabled", true
mobileControlSet pName, "editable", true -- multiline only (?)
mobileControlSet pName, "alpha", 0 -- transparent
mobileControlSet pName, "textalign", the effective textalign of
control pName
mobileControlSet pName, "textColor", the effective textcolor of
control pName
if pReturnKey <> "" then mobileControlSet pName, "returnKeyType",
pReturnKey -- usually "search"

  mobileControlSet pName, "visible", true
if the platform contains "iPhone" then
mobileControlSet pName, "borderStyle", "none"
mobileControlSet pName, "clearButtonMode", "always"
  end if
end createInputFld

I've seen that! Can't remember which fix is for which error, but the
handiest fix that I use most for Simulator is xCode's prefs: Command

That´s how i am doing it, because pressing the test button in LC with the
simulator not running produces here exact the same problems. First there are
these notification messages that the simulator does not respond or takes to
long to start(or something like that - you all know that message) and i have to
choose if want to continue. If i acknowledge to continue, then the message
appears after some time again and so on.

When i press the button to not continue, the simulator hangs. At least it does
not respond for a very long time. I have to use the activity monitor to quit
the simulator.

If i open the simulator first and wait until the iOS device is started
completely, then i can test the LC app without a problem.

Unfortunately i very often forget to start the simulator first and and that
then takes time i could use more useful.

Does the emulator itself not work?

Or does your app not run on the emulator?

You can either hit the test button to run it on an open emulator.

But you can also create a standalone on mac and drag the the standalone
file to the emulator (or was a real device) anyway can't remember but i
did drag it towards devices in Xcode

But your Provisioning Profile is OK?

simulator stays open but unloaaded. I then find I can go to the Simulator menu
and select my device under Hardware and everything works.

HTH,

Roger

Re: LiveCode and iOS Simulator Set Up

2018-02-20 Thread panagiotis merakos via use-livecode
Hi John,

For LC 8.1.9 you have to use Xcode 9.2 if you are on MacOS 10.12.6+.

Moreover, you have to open the simulator first *from Xcode*. See this
thread fro more details:

LiveCode and iOS Simulator Set Up

2018-02-20 Thread JOHN PATTEN via use-livecode
Hi All,

I am trying to set up a new school Mac laptop with Xcode so that I can run the
iOS simulator on it with Livecode.

I have tried LiveCode 8.1.7 and 8.1.9 with Xcode most recent version of Xcode,
9.0, and 9.1. Each time I attempt to launch the simulator in LiveCode I get
the message, “The simulator seems to be taking a long time to launch…”.
Eventually, it times out and the app never launches in the simulator.

I’m guessing I am not using the correct versions of LiveCode or, possibly,
Xcode? Is there a link to documentation on how to get the simulator to work?

Thank you!

closestackrequest in iOS Simulator

2018-01-31 Thread Klaus major-k via use-livecode
Hi friends,

Xcode 9.2, LC 9 dp11 and LC 8.1.9 RC2

Out of a sudden, "closestackrequest" and "closestack"
do not seem to get sent to the stack in the simulator anymore?

I created a new empty stack with only this stackscript:
---
on closestackrequest
answer "closestack REQUEST!"
pass closestackrequest
end closestackrequest

on closestack
answer "closestack"
end closestack
-
I see both dialogs when I close the stack in the IDE, but in the simulator
(iPhone 5s - 11.2) I do not see any dialog when pressing the "Home" button?

What gives? Thanks for any hint.

Best

Klaus

IOS simulator/ iPhone X and Xcode Mobile Pref Order

2017-11-08 Thread Ralph DiMola via use-livecode
iOS developers FYI:

If you have more than one Xcode on the Mobile Prefs make sure that the last
one in the most recent. I had Xcode 9 as the first and then added the older
ones. When the simulator fired up from LC there was no option for iPhone X.
I then closed down everything and started the simulator from Xcode 9 and the
iPhone X was there. I then started up LC and it froze when "Configuring
Simulator". This required a force quit to get out of. After I re-arranged
the Prefs so that Xcode 9 was last on the list I restarted LC, Clicked the
test button, iPhone iOS 11 started up with an older phone model. I selected
the iPhone X(now an option), shutdown the older simulator device, clicked
the test button again and the iPhone X was up and running my app.

RE: LC 9.0.0 dp8 won't launch iOS simulator

2017-08-13 Thread Ralph DiMola via use-livecode
Bill,

Great!. I just noticed that the original did not hit the use list. I composed
that on my phone and it seems that email account will not post to the lists
anymore. I'll get Heather to fix that. One addition... The alligator
(OldXcodeVersions folder) should be nowhere near the applications folder.
Preferably "in a galaxy far far away". My First stab was as a sub-folder in
applications. I had a problem (could/could not have been related). I moved
OldXcodeVersions folder to the desktop and there it stays.

Re: LC 9.0.0 dp8 won't launch iOS simulator

2017-08-11 Thread panagiotis merakos via use-livecode
Hi Bill,

In LC 9dp7 (or dp8, not 100% sure), we removed support for 32bit
simulators. This means that if your simulator is set to iPhone SE or
iPhone5, the standalone will not launch. So you have to choose a 64bit
simulator (iphone6 and above).

LC 9.0.0 dp8 won't launch iOS simulator

2017-08-11 Thread William Prothero via use-livecode
Folks:
I’m trying to work on a new app that will send an sms message in iOS. But, as
it usually happens when I don’t use the simulator and XCode for a month or so,
new version come along and chaos seems to ensue. I had all of this working in
LC 8.1.4.

I’ve been working with LC 8.2.6 and LC9.0.0 (dp8) I downloaded XCode 8.3.3, but
have XCode 8.3 and 8.2 installed. When I started, LC 8.2.6 would launch the
simulator ok. But 9.0.0 wouldn’t. After fiddling around a bit, LC 8.2.6 would
no longer launch the simulator. I get the following error message on all
versions, no matter what I put into the LiveCode preferences for XCode:

“Unable to start simulator 634,0,0,notoolset 573,220,1,revPhoneSetSimulatorSDK

I deleted the LC Preferences files and it didn’t fix anything.

So…. I have 3 versions of XCode (8.2, 8.3, 8.3.3) in my application folder.
These have been downloaded from the developer portal. Is it ok to have all of
them in my applications folder, then enter them into the LC Preferences->mobile
Support pane? Or will it mix up software from different versions of XCode in my
app folder?

Do I need to download additional tools for XCode?

This is extremely frustrating. I did note that there was a red/green box in the
LC mobile support pane in preferences, which should indicate the all the XCode
support files are correct for the running version of LC. This doesn’t seem to
be the case, though. It does respond to the version loaded, though, which is
something.

For me, this is the most frustrating part of livecode. Can’t more be done to
check configurations and provide clear and complete error messages when things
aren’t right?

Best,
Bill P

Re: iOS simulator not found after updating LC and Xcode

2016-11-03 Thread Bob Sneidar
When it comes to Xcode, this is almost never the case. What I have gotten from
all the iOS posts in this forum, keeping LC and Xcode in sync is far more
important than having either/both up to date. Which version works with which
should probably be published in a document, and maybe already has been.

Yep Thierry is right - still too early to use Xcode 8.1.1

BTW if you’re going to have multiple versions of Xcode on you machine (which is
a sensible thing to do if you’re going to have multiple versions of LiveCode on
your machine) the safest way of doing this is to have each of them in their own
folder in the Applications folder rather than renaming the .app bundle to
something like “Xcode811.app”

iOS simulator not found after updating LC and Xcode

2016-11-03 Thread John Allijn
Hi,
Yesterday I updated Xcode to 8.1 and LiveCode to version 8.1.1 and now LiveCode
can’t find any simulators for iOS.
In the Livecode preferences the list with simulators is empty. When I click Add
Entry and select the new Xcode app, it gives an error:

"The chosen folder is not a valid iOS SDK. Selected Xcode must have an iOS SDK
among: 6.1, 7.1, 8.2, 9.2 and 10.0”

When I look in Xcode though, I have iOS 9.1 and iOS 9.2 installed.
I can also see the installed SDK’s in the /developer folder on my mac but When
I click “Add Entry” these simulators and their parent folders are not
selectable (grayed out)

Am I doing something wrong?

You were correct!

I figured this out 6 months ago when I did the first app but forgot about
since not doing anything since then.

Thanks.

Widgets don't show in iOS simulator or on iPad?

2016-06-17 Thread Glen Bojsza
I have two apps with very similar layouts, groups and widgets.

*System Details*

XCode is Version 6.2 (6C131e)

OS X 10.9.5

LC 8.0.1 Indy

I build for iPad iOS 8.2

One app looks correct with all widgets, fields etc

One app doesn't show any widgets??

Even when I create a new app I can't get the widgets to show any more...why
in the one app they do show I have no idea.

This should be pretty straight forward at this stage of the game but
something is really missing!

Any suggestions?

regards,

Glen

Re: iOS Simulator Behaves Strangely in LC8DP15

2016-03-15 Thread Neil Roger

Hi Sannyasin Brahmanathaswami,

I've been working with 8.0 DP15 for iOS builds and have not come across
any major stumbling blocks.

In regards to the simultor size, this sounds like a simulator scaling
issue on your display. You should be able to resolve this by selecting
one of the scale options via the iOs simulators "Window--->Scale" menu
option.

For the iOS build, if the error messages persist after multiple build
attempts, please submit a bug report with our QC team and we will
happily investigate further-

iOS Simulator crashes with externals

2015-10-17 Thread Monte Goulding
Hi LiveCoders

I’m just making you all aware of an issue introduced in the recent releases of
LiveCode where apps crash in the simulator if they have externals. The issue is
a result of a change in the standalone builder. If you experience this issue
there is an easy workaround which you can apply:

edit the script of stack “revSaveAsiOSStandalone”

Find the command symlinkRedirect

Insert the following as the first line of the command:

if there is a file pTarget then exit symlinkRedirect

I’ll take this opportunity to remind people of the special running on mergExt
Complete for the rest of the month. 3 years of access to updates for $499 and
the first 5 get an extra 6 months. http://mergext .com/special

Cheers

Thank you! Yes, it does work. In the past it was possible to just launch
Console and choose "All Messages", and logging showed up there. I
haven't been able to do that for a long time, but choosing the menu item
from within the simulator does it.

Happy dance. This makes things much easier.

Re: iOS simulator and iOS 8 [Was sqlite and iOS 8]

2015-03-11 Thread Dave Kilroy
Actually the iOS simulator start up times with 7.0.3 has been pretty good -
but I don't trust it anymore and hardly ever use it - better to get on a
real device and test properly (what is the point of testing with an
unpredictable simulator?). It may be I'm being too hard on the simulator but
I've been doing more Android work recently where the emulator is a joke and
I test on a real device 100% of the time

SQLite problem on iOS Simulator

2014-07-06 Thread Klaus major-k
Hi friends,

strange problem when using SQLite in the iOS Simulator.
LC 6.6.2, XCode 5.1, Simulator iOS 7.1

Database file copied to specialfolderpath(documents)

In general all database access runs fine, but there is one handler where
CONSOLE
outputs an script error, found out by using a TRY structure.
Not to mention that this runs fine on the desktop!?

This function:
##
function db_getPickContent tTable
   put numtochar(1) into tRowDel
   put numtochar(2) into tLineDel
   put db_id() into tDBID

put SELECT name,id FROM tTable into tSQL
   try
  put revDataFromQuery(tRowDel,tLineDel,tDBID,tSQL) into tRetValue
   catch ernum
  put ernum
   end try
   return db_pickcontent2array(tRetValue)
end db_getPickContent
###

ALWAYS outputs this errorcode: 219,488,11,revDataFromQuery
219 = error in function handler and points to the revDatafromquery function
on line 488 of my script!? So the revDatafromquery never gets executed!

I am clueless, any hints very welcome!
Or are there problems in general with SQLite in the simulator?
Do not have a real device to test.

Thanks a lot in advance!

Best

Klaus

Multistacks and iOS simulator bug ?

2012-12-16 Thread Ludovic Thébault
Hello,

I've found something like a bug :

I've an stack which contains substacks (one for iPad, one for the retina
iPhone). The mainstack is for the classic iPhone.

When i made changes on a substack without changed anything in the mainstack and
i test on the simulator (even if i delete the app on the simulator before) :
the change are not applied which is very confusing ! I need to modify something
on the mainstack to see the change on my substack in the simulator.

I lost some neurons and hours on this ! ;)

Can someone confirm ?

Thanks.

iOS simulator closes right after opening of app

2012-10-30 Thread Christophe Leske

Hi there,

i am an old time Director user who recently switched to LiveCode for
mobile development.

Thanks to Colin Holgate for pointing me to this list.

After trying to figure out how to write and test my apps, I ran into a
couple of issues which I cannot resolve... sigh.

I am trying to test my app using the simulator. There is an app for iPad
and one for the iPhone.

I updated my OS to Mountain Lion (which is probably what is causing the
trouble) and XCode to 4.5.5 in order to get the latest iOS SDK 6.0.

NOW:
- any previous SDK version does not run in the simulator, it is said
that the SDK cannot be found (although I am offered a file picker
showing a director in which there is the SDK 4.3 and 5.0), but it won't
work.
Probably has to do with the fact that I have uninstalled XCode 4.3.3
previously?

Can one reinstall older SDKs/Xcode versions on Lion?

- even when switching my app to the new iOS6 SDK, the simulator opens,
shows the splash screen, then recloses the app right away without
showing my stack.

What gives? Am I missing something?

I feel like upgrading to Mountain Lion was not such a good idea after
all and I should have stuck with Lion instead - sigh... no downgrade
possible I guess.

Although this is my first post, I am already so tired of all this
up-,down- and sidegrading issues. I switched to the mac thinking that i
would just work.

Was apparently mistaken...

Thanks for any help you might be able to provide,

Re: iOS simulator closes right after opening of app

2012-10-30 Thread Thomas McGrath III
Christophe,

Any time you have a new Desktop OS, and a new Development IDE, and a new iOS,
and a new Livecode version you are bound to run into issues until everything
gets worked out and all caveats are resolved. As far as I know this would be
the same on any platform.

With the new xCode, Apple decided to include a few simulators but only the one
SDK. A few things to consider are:
1. GIve everything time to register. (xCode is tied into the Developer website
for Provisioning Certs, etc.)
2. Open xCode to start the download of extras and specifically you need to
download Legacy Simulators.
3. In Livecode check your preferences for mobile and re-link to the new xCode,
ONLY. (conflicting xCodes will interfere with running the simulator)
4. In standalone settings for your app give the app a unique Internal App ID
(if not you will run into a problem, or delete any versions of the app on the
simulator)
5. In standalone settings re-select your Profile.
6. Save the App to set these settings.
7. Occasionally, you have to go fishing in Erie. (Don't laugh, this solved the
whole problem for me.)
8. Reboot as necessary.

Actually, what really happened was that I rebooted my computer after the
weekend fishing and all was fine so it just took time to settle in.

Downloading and installing the old simulator fixed it for me, I can now

5.1 simulator just recloses after startup when running in the iOS 6
simulator (goes the same when switching the SDK to version number 6.0).

I just want to make sure that I am not trying something which is known
to cause problems,

Welcome!

Not sure where you got Xcode 4.5.5 from, the latest prerelease one I can see is
4.5.2, and when I get prerelease ones I tend to keep the existing release one
installed too, which would be 4.5.1.

In Xcode Preferences there is Downloads section, where you can download older
SDKs for it to use.

To use The latest Xcode you want to make sure you're using the release version
of LiveCode 5.5.3. Earlier versions did give the symptom where the app would
open and then immediately quit.

2012-10-30 Thread Matthias Rebbe
Hi Christophe,

welcome to the list.

There is also a little problem with the ios 6 simulator: The new simulator does
not like like apps with the same domain installed in your simulator. This could
give an error message like Unable to start simulation: iOS Simulator failed to
install application.
This is not a LiveCode problem, but an iOS 6 simulator issue.

re: iOS simulator won't work

2012-10-11 Thread Lars Brehmer
Thanks a million to Colin (again) and Guglielmo!

I knew I was overlooking something simple, and sure enough the simulator now
works thanks to replacing Xcode 4.5 with xCode 4.4.1

So it works, but it is of slightly limited use to me (unless I am overlooking
something obvious again.)

I guess that only native controls are resized for the different resolutions,
and since I make all of my own buttons, icons, graphics, nothing gets resized.

I am making this for retina display, so in the regular simulator only the upper
left portion of the app can be seen, and the retina simulator seems unable to
be taller than the screen height, so I can't move it up to see the bottom part
of the app.

I guess the real testing will only start when I prepare it for use on my iPad.

Apologies in advance if I don't that that to work without calling for help
again ;-)

Cheers,

Lars

unfortunately NOT ... *nothing is automatically resized* ... you have to

Thanks again for the reply Colin!

Something that may help narrow down the issue, what happens if you give the
app a custom icon? Does it then show that icon and fail to open, or is it
 still a white icon?

Which version of LiveCode are you using, and which iOS version?

I quickly made a test icon (72 X 72 saved as .png 24) and in the iOS standalone
settings clicked on pre-rendered.

In the simulator the icon showed up properly but the result was the same - it
just slides up and left, returns but nothing else happens. And when I
double-click the home button, the icon shows up in the running apps.

liveCode 5.5.2 build 1492

OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.2

Xcode 4.5.1

I still think I am overlooking something obvious but have no idea what that
could be.

The full standalone application settings:

Build for iOS iPad3.1.3 or lateruniversal

myTestAppversion 1.0.0

com.warrenbrehmer.myTestApp

Profile myProfile (which is what I oh so cleverly named my profile;-)

no externals

prerendered icon

no splash screen

no custom URL scheme

no requirements and restrictions

status bar visible - default

Do you know that this configuration is *NOT* officially supported by

This is what RunRev OFFICIALLY say (/... on the developers list/) :

with LiveCode 5.5.2 you have to use xCode 4.4.1
with LiveCode 5.5.3 (/when will be officially released/) can use
xCode 4.5

so ... I think is normal to have problems ... :-(

re: iOS simulator (still!) won't work

2012-10-08 Thread Lars Brehmer
Thanks for the reply Colin!

Unfortunately it still doesn't work!

 What are the chances!

Some things may have become more strict over time, and you may have to enter
 a more full app id.

In that field initially there is com.yourcompany.yourapp, change that to
something else, say com.larsbrehmer.helloworldtest If that then doesn't
work, try selecting a provisioning profile.

What I think may have happened is that at the time I wrote those instructions
the placeholder text was actually used as the app id, and so it worked. At
some point RunRev may have intentionally removed that text when you do a
test, so these days you have to enter your own id.

At least that's my guess, and I was able to see the problem you saw, and then
get it to work by entering my own id, and selecting a provisioning file.

So I went through the provisioning process, which as everybody by now knows is
quite lengthy. Still, the instructions were very good and I have the valid
certificate in my Keychain.

The only remark about the process was the final step, which is opening your
project in Xcode and doing something. Since I use liveCode and don't use Xcode,
I simply skipped this step.

So I have the certificate and it still won't work.

I still get the white icon, but nothing happens. The weird thing is that when I
double click the home button on the simulator, that icon is there in the open
apps row as if it is running.

Anyone experienced this and solved it?

Cheers,

Lars

Re: iOS simulator won't work

2012-10-05 Thread Colin Holgate
The instructions about Xcode were for when you get as far as testing on a
device, it shouldn't affect whether it works in the simulator.

One thing I notice, I wrote that stuff before Apple changed Xcode to become a
single application file. If you have a recent Xcode installed there may be a
difference in how you have to do things. At the very least, what did you select
in the LiveCode preferences under mobile support? With a recent Xcode you would
want to be using a recent LiveCode, and choose the option for Xcode 4.3 or
later, and then point to the single Xcode application file.

iOS simulator won't work

2012-10-04 Thread Lars Brehmer
I am finally testing the waters of apps for the iPad, but my first problem is
this:

I cannot get my stacks to open in the xCode simulator. All I ever see is a
white, generic icon with my stack's name under it. When I click on it, it
slides up and to the left out of sight, there is a pause and it slides back
into place. No sign of my stack, mo mater how often I try.

I use Collin's book, which I bought from Amazon and absolutely love. But I am
missing something here. In a nutshell, the steps provided in the book are:

1. create and save a main stack
2. set the size (his example is 1024 X 768, uncheck Resizable
3. put something on the card (example field with hello World text
4. open standalone settings, select iOS
5. Set orientation to Landscape
6. Close standalone settings dialog box
7. from the development test target menu choose iPad simulator
8. development test
9. your test stack is running in the simulator

I did everything several times, with variations, but 9 never happens. All I
have ever seen is what I described above.

Whart am I missing? The book has been spot on for every little detail so far,
so I wonder why this isn't working?

I am using Mountain Lion (10.8.2), LiveCode 5.5.2 and xCode 4.5 and in liveCode
preferences MObile Support the location of developer root for iOS 5 and
above is /Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer

Tips or suggestions?

iOS Simulator oddness

2012-04-24 Thread Graham Samuel
I've been doing some testing on an iPhone app on my newish iMac. The simulator
has been working as expected. I'm now on a trip and have switched to my MacBook
which AFAIK has the same development software (LC 5.5, XCode 4.2.1, Simulator
5.0 etc) - but now the simulator insists on opening in iPad portrait mode, with
my app in the middle of the screen - exactly as happens when you open an
iPod/iPhone app on a real iPad. If I switch the simulator to iPhone, my
simulated app disappears. I can't get the simulator to open in iPhone mode.

I imagine I have done something wrong with the standalone settings of my app,
but what? Can anyone suggest what's happening?

TIA

to my MacBook which AFAIK has the same development software (LC 5.5, XCode
4.2.1, Simulator 5.0 etc) - but now the simulator insists on opening in iPad
portrait mode, with my app in the middle of the screen - exactly as happens
when you open an iPod/iPhone app on a real iPad. If I switch the simulator to
iPhone, my simulated app disappears. I can't get the simulator to open in
 iPhone mode.

I imagine I have done something wrong with the standalone settings of my app,
but what? Can anyone suggest what's happening?

 TIA

 Graham
