[EMAIL PROTECTED] Mozilla Rendering Problem after PHP Error

2006-02-23 Thread John Riley
As of a week ago, I had a working installation of PHP based forum
running as a virtual host on an Apache 2.0.50/Mandrake 10.1 system. I
was happily using the Mozilla 1.7.2 browser to access the site. I
edited one of the theme files for the forum and forgot to close a quote
in the PHP code; this of course gave an error, but after fixing that,
the site does not render properly in Mozilla. View Source in Mozilla
gives only: html - body - /body - /html tags; there is no other content
(though the full page does get served).

The failure is noticed for both Mozilla Suite 1.7.2 and 1.7.8 (on Linux)
and Firefox 1.0.4 (on Windows), but the site is fine in Konqueror, lynx
and Internet Explorer. I've done numerous Google searches, searched
Mozilla and Apache Bug lists and mailing lists and have not found
anything that fits.

I created a dummy site on another Mandrake 10.1 box and it works fine
with Mozilla 1.7.8. After deleting the document root directory and the
backend MySQL database from the server, the forum PHP files were
reinstalled from the original tar file and db restored from the
mysqldump file (the copied sited on the other box used the same forum
tar and mysqldump). Mozilla continued to fail for pages served from the
problematic server, though it works fine from the 'dummy' site.

Mozilla works fine for other virtual hosts on the problematic machine.

The Apache rpm's were uninstalled and reinstalled and then upgraded to
the 2.0.50-7.6.101 Mandrake rpm.

With ethereal and looking at the apache logs, I was able to verify that
apache is sending approximately 23,000 bytes to Mozilla. I also
verified that Mozilla could render the transferred html data in two ways.

(1) saved the page from Konqueror, then opened the file in Mozilla and
(2) pieced together the data from an ethereal capture of Mozilla's GET
request to an html file, then opened in Moz.

Believing the html data to be ok, though Mozilla was dropping it, I
began looking at the headers (maybe I should have started here) and
using lynx --head --dump $url, got the results listed below. The
problematic 'host' has several headers not seen on the others:

The Content-Encoding: gzip
Vary: Accept-Encoding
Several headers, such as Set-Cookie and Pragma: no-cache, appear twice.

$url = http://www.scdeerhunter.com (this is the url that causes the
failure in Mozilla and is a public url if you'd like to test it)

What could I have done to the server installation by having that open
quote in PHP? Perhaps a library apache uses got corrupted (like a buffer
overflow)?

Thanks for any advice or suggestions; I've been banging against this
issue for nearly a week.

RE: [EMAIL PROTECTED] determining page size correctly

2006-02-23 Thread Selçuk Karaca
Hello again..

The reason for web page size exploration is a rule for the application.

No page will exceed 150K, only %35 can exceed 60K etc..

I am not good at Apache so can you explain referrers a bit more and how to use
it in page size exploration

And when I connect with a browser I could not see the page size (from rigth
click > properties > size )This can be due to HTTPS protocol ?

Thank you for your help..

It sounds a lot like you are missing the empty line that terminates
the header. This is the 'header' that initiates the transfer and
precedes the ... stuff. It is usually sent for you
when
the server reads and sends out a .html file. But if you are running
a script or binary that is creating the content, you have to take care
of that little detail.

You need to start with a line something like:

  Content-type: text/html\n\n

eg. in Perl, for example a print for the first of the data sent
would look like:

  print "Content-type: text/html\n\n";

jerry

ok
try it running as some other user, like create one for it, say httpuser and
the set directory permissions to that user and then check
i hope it'll get executed
and also let me know if it works

Regards
Azeem

I created a new user called httpuser, tried both:

/shell/nologin
/bin/bash

Both produced the following errors in my logs:

[Thu Feb 23 15:23:07 2006] [error] [client xx.xx.xx.xx] (13)Permission
denied: exec of '/usr/sbin/suexec' failed
[Thu Feb 23 15:23:07 2006] [error] [client xx.xx.xx.xx] Premature end of
script headers: hello.cgi
[Thu Feb 23 15:23:13 2006] [error] [client xx.xx.xx.xx] (13)Permission
denied: exec of '/usr/sbin/suexec' failed
[Thu Feb 23 15:23:13 2006] [error] [client xx.xx.xx.xx] Premature end of
script headers: hello.pl
[Thu Feb 23 15:23:17 2006] [error] [client xx.xx.xx.xx] (13)Permission
denied: exec of '/usr/sbin/suexec' failed
[Thu Feb 23 15:23:17 2006] [error] [client xx.xx.xx.xx] Premature end of
script headers: test.pl
[Thu Feb 23 15:23:19 2006] [error] [client xx.xx.xx.xx] (13)Permission
denied: exec of '/usr/sbin/suexec' failed
[Thu Feb 23 15:23:19 2006] [error] [client xx.xx.xx.xx] Premature end of
script headers: test.pl

I then went back to the website:

http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.0/howto/cgi.html#writing

and re-read about suexec, and disabled it, restarted apache, changed user
and group back to nobody, restarted again. It complained a bit about:

Warning: SuexecUserGroup directive requires SUEXEC wrapper.

which probably comes from my httpd.conf file - the SuexecUserGroup:

SuexecUserGroup "#508" "#508"
ServerName newdomain.com
ServerAlias www.newdomain.com
DocumentRoot /home/testdomain/public_html
ErrorLog /home/testdomain/logs/error_log
CustomLog /home/testdomain/logs/access_log common
ScriptAlias /cgi-bin/ /home/testdomain/cgi-bin/

Options Indexes IncludesNOEXEC FollowSymLinks
allow from all

With all that said, it will now run the cgi scripts fine.

My problem probably started when I followed the directions below to build my
Fedora Core 4 server:

http://www.falkotimme.com/howtos/perfect_setup_fedora_core_4/

Anyways - it's all working for now.

Thanks for your help.

[EMAIL PROTECTED] Webserver config for version 1.3 or 2.0 - emulate "UseCanonicalPhysicalPort On"

2006-02-23 Thread Bruce Young
Greetings all,

I have been trying to find a solution to this issue with my 1.3
webserver.

I am using 1.3 because this is part of an Oracle 10g Application server
and I don't have a choice to go to 2.2. 2.0 is apparently an option now
but the version we currently use is 1.3.

What I want to emulate is this 2.2 configuration:

Servername xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
Port 80
Listen 81

UseCanonicalName Off
UseCanonicalPhysicalPort On

Why I hear you ask?

I'll explain the configuration for those that are interested:

* - 2 servers running Oracle 10g AS with HTTP_Server and WebCache
* - Web Cache is listening on Port 80
* - HTTP_Server is listening on port 81
* - OC4J engine on each
* - Multiple Deployed Applications, Multiple named DNS entries

This doesn't cause an issue except when the web server needs to rewrite
a url if I set "UseCanonicalName On" then all URLs revert to
"xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/the rest". If I set "UseCanonicalName Off" then the
URL keeps the correct DNS entry but I then get "correct.dns.entry:81/the
rest" which defeats the purpose of having the cache.

Just to add a little more complexity both these servers are load
balanced through a Cisco Engine. This is not the issue as this has been
elinated using a round robin dns test.

Attempting to use rewrite has not worked. We tried:
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^correct.dns.entry$ [NC]
RewriteCond %{SERVER_PORT} !^80$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://correct.dns.entry/$1 [L,R]

But with all inbound requests being on port 81 this just gets us into a
loop which will eventually cause an error.

Can anybody think of a way to resolve this or should I just restructure
my components so the web server can listen on 80 and my problem then
goes away?

Thanks in advance,

Bruce

Have you set the right permissions for your program?
Try:

chmod 755 program_name.pl

The program should have read and execute permissions for the user that runs
Apache.
Also make sure that the end of line is just\n if you are running the program
under Unix/Linux and not \r\n (like when the files are created under
Windows).

[EMAIL PROTECTED] Mod_Auth_Mysql v2.20

2006-02-23 Thread Don O'Neil
Does anyone have instructions on how to build v2.2 of Mod_Auth_Mysql with
the latest Apache HTTP release? I have old apps that I cannot rebuild that
require some of the directives & syntax that are only supported in v2.2

Alternatively, if someone has a pre-built module for the 1x line of HTTPD,
built for FreeBSD 4.11 that would be WONDERFULL!!

Or, again, maybe there is a slightly later version than 2.2 that has all the
same support that is easier to build? V 3.0 doesn't have the function calls
I need, although I can build it in a snap.

Thanks!!

Re: [EMAIL PROTECTED] When will Win32 be released for Apache 2.2?

Any ideas on when Apache 2.2.0 will be compiled for the Win32

up to compiling it myself.

Never, as 2.2.0 was sub-stable w.r.t. proxy and not buildable as a virgin
package (the original flavor which was rolled). 2.2.1 will be the first
win32 'binary distro' from the ASF. You have already verified your problems
still exist in 2.0.55? If so, it's quite likely that 2.2.0 has the same
issues, and posting the ***details*** of your issue is more likely to get
some results.

But Apache has little to do with bugs in php5 nor it's consumption of mysql.

is this the line from the apache error log and are you sure there is nothing else here, do you see any orphaned apache processes, i am guessing its something to do with apache binding to some IP thats conflicting with mysql, are your loop-back addresss configured properly , anyway have you checked netstat -a to see on what sockets the server is listening, also i would suggest doing an strace on the apache startup script to see where it is failing

[EMAIL PROTECTED] Apache not working after upgrading MySQL Server

2006-02-23 Thread Max Yu
I could not understand how the problem is related to MySQL
server.

The machine is running Fedora Core 4, Apache 2.0.54 and MySQL
server 4.1.9. And everything was fine. Then I updated MySQL to
5.0.18. Then Apache is not working any more. Start Apache will
fail.

The error log only has one item related to this:

caught SIGTERM, shutting down.

Why is not?

Thanks,

and does not print the "Hello, World." at all.

And in my browser - it gives me the "Internal Server Error"

It sounds a lot like you are missing the empty line that terminates
the header. This is the 'header' that initiates the transfer and
precedes the ... stuff. It is usually sent for you when
the server reads and sends out a .html file. But if you are running
a script or binary that is creating the content, you have to take care
of that little detail.

You need to start with a line something like:

 Content-type: text/html\n\n

eg. in Perl, for example a print for the first of the data sent
   would look like:

 print "Content-type: text/html\n\n";

jerry

That's exactly what I have - here's the first.pl file:

#!/usr/bin/perl
print "Content-type: text/html\n\n";
print "Hello, World.";

Also - I guess ie does work via command line as shown:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] cgi-bin]# ./first.pl
Content-type: text/html

Hello, [EMAIL PROTECTED] cgi-bin]#

Just "missed" it since it was on the same line - I then added a couple
\n\n to it, and it prints nicely.

However, it does not display anything vai the browser - just the
"Internal Server Error"

[Thu Feb 23 12:45:35 2006] [error] [client xx.xx.xx.xx] Premature end of

My bad, working on not enough sleep. I remmed it with #.

The first error:

httpd: Syntax error on line 326 of /Library/Apache2/conf/httpd.conf: API
module structure `perl_module' in file
/Library/Apache2/modules/mod_perl.so is garbled - perhaps this is not an
Apache module DSO?

If I # that line out, I then get

httpd: Syntax error on line 327 of /Library/Apache2/conf/httpd.conf: API
module structure `access_module' in file
/Library/Apache2/modules/mod_access.so is garbled - perhaps this is not an
Apache module DSO?

Different files.. I'm guessing if I # the mod_access I'll get another
error. Those, BTW, are the first to module includes in my httpd.conf. I
just tried a reinstall:

./configure --prefix=/Library/Apache2 --with-perl --enable-module=shared

To clear up some of the confusing advice you've been getting:

- the extension is not important, .cgi is fine.
- you don't need the CGI:Carp module (don't complicate life
unnecessarily)

Thanks! When I removed this line, it all of a sudden started working.
Maybe I had a typo or something.

- your problem is simply that you script does not output a content-type
header. Did you read the doc I referred you to?

Weird, I got your "first" message, shortly after I got your "2nd"
message. It's quite useful. Thanks again!

[EMAIL PROTECTED] Apache 1.3.x vs 2.0.x

2006-02-23 Thread Kishore Jalleda
Hi all,
This is my first post to the list, I am currently using version 1.3.34 for our websites,  I would like to hear about your experiences about the 2.0.x versions as they support Multithreading, MPMs, APR, etc, specifically about any  performance improvements over
1.3.x (which uses the pre-forking model), I am aware that the MT may not be suitable for all configurations, we use Poweredge 2650's with Dual Xeons and HT, and also some Sparc Boxes.

Thanks all for your time

Re: [EMAIL PROTECTED] php & html

2006-02-23 Thread Rick Gigger
i'm afraid pdf format will be very slow. so, it's not an option
for me. i'm looking for a method (css or javascript) to set the
size or print area of the page, like 8. 5 x 5.5 inches to print
forms, or 3.5 x 2 inches to print labels, or 7.5 x 3.5 inches to
print inventory tags, or any other size.

css can use several different types of units. Some are actual
physical space. Some are based on pixels. Just use the ones based
on actual space.

This may have some helpful hints:
http://www.alistapart.com/articles/goingtoprint/

or google css printing. It will come up with a lot of useful info.

So, my question is can we set table size or div tag or any other
tag to be exact 8.5" x 5.5" or 3.5" x 2" or any other size?

I realize this top becomes non-php related, but I hope someone can
help me out.

Thank you so much,
JC

I have the same problem but use pdf for everything. It is a pain
though. Since there is no fop implementation in php (unless you
want to also run java) I have started writing my own xml -> pdf
engine (not to any standard just one that does what I need). It
speeds things up a lot most of time. Updating the engine takes

It sounds like you may be looking for mod_file_cache.

If not, you may also want to consider using mod_disk_cache in place of
mod_mem_cache, because it allows the OS to be in charge of the memory
caching issues (using the OS buffer cache) and hence will often
outperform mod_mem_cache.

Need more details. What version of apache? Where are you putting the
auth directives? (Hint: Try rather than .)

Re: [EMAIL PROTECTED] A problem with http://localhost/

2006-02-23 Thread zhou jian
Actually I can visit httpd website with
http://myipaddress/index.html. I just couldn't visit
with http://localhost or http://1270.0.0.1 even I have
etc/hosts configurated right.

For trying to solve this issue,
I added

Listen 127.0.0.1:80 and tried to restart httpd.

[EMAIL PROTECTED] bin]# ./httpd -k start
(99)Cannot assign requested address: make_sock: could
not bind to address 127.0.0.1:80
no listening sockets available, shutting down
Unable to open logs

It showed the error above and I couldn't start httpd.

Do you have any idea? I found even I commented Listen
80 in the previous part of httpd.conf. I still got the
same error.

For technical reasons, you'll have to wait for 2.2.1 for an 'official'
binary.

But apachelounge.com has one for 2.2.0.

I have an Apache which I want to authenticate user using mod_auth_kerb and

Its worse, if the page pulls in "static" fillers, many ISP's will cache
these and you will only see a request once every blue moon.
The best you will get (even with refererr enabled) is an estimate.

You could access eveyr page locally using an fully enabled browser
and use this as a basis for page costs, then look for actual
page requests and scale by worst case cost, but this will NOT
tally with bandwidth used.

Indeed. But commonly people have very bad reasons, like the impression
that mod_ssl doesn't exist for 2.x because it's not there at the mod_ssl site.

Instructions, yes. But having the EAPI means extra hassle with every
other module, and is especially nightmareish if you're stuch with
binary apps.

I have development work with proprietary modules that don't run on
2.x... So I'm forced to keep an instance under this version.

It's the same as to why many people still run Redhat 7,8,9...

In any case, the mod-ssl readme has clear and precise instructions on
how to add it. Then again, he would be better of getting an RPM of

i'm afraid pdf format will be very slow. so, it's not an option for me.
i'm looking for a method (css or javascript) to set the size or print area
of the page, like 8. 5 x 5.5 inches to print forms, or 3.5 x 2 inches to
print labels, or 7.5 x 3.5 inches to print inventory tags, or any other
size.

So, my question is can we set table size or div tag or any other tag to be
exact 8.5" x 5.5" or 3.5" x 2" or any other size?

I realize this top becomes non-php related, but I hope someone can help me
out.

Thank you so much,

I have the same problem but use pdf for everything. It is a pain though.
Since there is no fop implementation in php (unless you want to also run
java) I have started writing my own xml -> pdf engine (not to any standard
just one that does what I need). It speeds things up a lot most of time.
Updating the engine takes time though.

Hi list,

planning to move the whole system to mysql & php. But I have a problem

We print a lot of forms (different size), barcodes, tags, and labels.
Now, if we migrate to mysql & php, is there a way to format (html) so
that we can still print forms, barcodes, tags, and labels all in
different size? Is there any tool out there that can accomplish this?

Thanks,

You need to find the library files libssl.so and libcrypto.so. With an RPM
install on some variety of Linux, it's impossible to guess where they might be.
So try:

$ cd /usr
$ find . -name "libssl.so"

then set SSL_BASE to that dir.

For FreeBSD 4 and up it is needed to add "apache22_enable="YES""
to make it run at system startup (or by giving
"/usr/local/etc/rc.d/apache22.sh" a change to start it).

How can I disable the httpready filter? At the moment this
missing filter (or related kernel module) blocks apache.

Upgrade to 2.0.55 or 2.2.0, there's a known issue with earlier 2.0.x
releases on OS X (well, an OS X kernel bug which was not worked around)
which can cause responses to be truncated at 64K.

I don't have bash on my AIX 5.3 machine. sh, csh
are available.

But as you mentioned that script need bash, which
script are you talking about? 'configure' script?

I've already given 'configure' command using my
default shell 'ksh', and it worked properly. But after that make
failed.

The options given with cofigure are:

./configure --with-mpm=prefork --enable-so
--enable-logio --enable-auth-digest --enable-auth-dbm --enable-exception-hook
CFLAGS="-qcpluscmt"

The other problem is it takes around 2 hrs to
configure on AIX 5.3. While on AIX 5.1/5.2, it's very fast. Search for Berkeley
DB in configure takes too much time.

Can you guide me how to resolve these
problems?

[EMAIL PROTECTED] mod_mem_cache configuration help

2006-02-23 Thread Xuekun Hu
Hi,

I want to cache some files and don't want them to be removed if the
cache if full. That's means the cache is serviced as
first-come-first-service basis. Can I do that by setting
"CacheDefaultExpire" to a large number?

However I found this sentence "If a new object needs to be inserted in
the cache and the size of the object is greater than the remaining
memory, objects will be removed until the new object can be cached.
The object to be removed is selected using the algorithm specified by
MCacheRemovalAlgorithm" in docs. So it seems the objects are hard to
stay in the cache, it has the the chance to be removed out!

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Thx, Xuekun

It looks bizzare to me, if I can't view it through

Does the lo network device is up and running ?
Do you have configured apache to listen on every ip address, or only its

The httpready filter isn't needed per se, but can improve performance.

The "no such file or directory error" on the other hand is quite a
