I don't even think that I have screensavers installed. When you open
the control panel and type in Screensaver the only option that comes up
is screen locking.

I was hoping to NOT have to do that *SIGHS*

I thought that "users" was for ALL Feodra users no matter what DE you
use.

How do I join the KDE list? I cant find the website that I initially
used to join this list.

SDDM screen locking is VERY hit or miss

2022-07-22 Thread c. marlow
Fedora 36 KDE

I noticed that SDDM is very hit or miss when locking the screen.
Sometimes I can move my mouse and I am asked to enter a password. And
then there are times I can move my mouse and my desktop and task bar
appears without entering a password.

I have my settings set as LOCK SCREEN after 27 min

allow unlocking without password 1 sec

Power management set to turn off screen after 28 min

But I just noticed that power management was defaulted back to 10
min... It's like the settings aren't sticking.. But thats for another
thread.

Any ideas on why screen locking is very hit or miss?

Cannot connect to 2g wireless network

2022-07-18 Thread c. marlow
Hi Ya'll,

I just got a Lenovo ThinkPad 3rd gen

I installed Fedora 36 KDE on it

And I cannot get it to connect to the 2G connection. It only will allow me to
connect to the 5g connection.

I have changed the name of the access point, changed the password several
times

only letters and numbers, letters numbers and basic symbols, no symbols...
Nothing...

I even downloaded Fedora 36 XFCE and ran the Live ISO.. Same thing...

Here is a list of things that i've tried already:

Num Lock

2022-07-09 Thread c. marlow
Fedora 36

XFCE 4.16

Dell Optiplex 980

I am needing to know how do I get my numlock to automatically turn on
when X loads and the log in screen comes up?

I have Numlockx installed, but the numlock does not come on after x
loads.

I had it set in the DELL bios for numlock to be on at boot, but after X
loads, when you go to hit a number on the 10 key all you hear is an
internal beep from the computer. I have to toggle the numlock off and
back on then punch the numbers in for my password.

Have it set this way was fine for all the other DE's i've used... MATE
and Gnome... But not for XFCE for some reason.

This is getting wacky,

I just sat down at the computer after being away from it for a little
bit and moved the mouse to be greeted by the YOUR CAPSLOCK IS ON
message.

It's done this twice, randomly today.

Is there a way to disable the capslock key entirely?

going to APPLICATIONS > and then typing in Power Manager > and going to
the DEVICES tab, it says my Keyboard has 70% battery life left

and the mouse has 55% ( Which I just replaced those batteries like a
couple months ago) Dang... The mouse is sucking the batteries like no
tomorrow!

I want to say that I think I remember that feature on Windows.

You'd tap the shift key so many times and the tower would make a weird
noise ( it sounded like a squeak) letting you know that feature had
been activated.

Fedora 36 XFCE

Hi,

Fresh install of Fedora 36 XFCE SPIN.

I can walk away from my computer and come back after the screen blanks
off and move my mouse and the lock screen will say:

"YOUR CAPSLOCK IS ON" on the screen locker. But I never use the CL
( Caps Lock)

What could be randomly activating the caps lock when I move the mouse?
Is it Fedora doing it?

The computer does not power down and go into standby. The tower is
always running.

Its better to filter list's by using the LIST-ID header and then create

Someone on this list replied and said they set their accounts up as
IMAP, but move their email to local folders via rules.

So what I was trying to do was MOVE all of the emails from the inbox to
the local folders

And then sort them into their appropriate folders under local folders..

But I gave up on that, I have been using IMAP for the last couple of
days now :(

Now, I just have Evolution sort the emails into folders on the IMAP
server as they come in.

Speaking of that Robert. I am having a issue:

If I create a rule in Evolution:

MATCHES ALL RULES BELOW

ACCOUNT: AccountNameHere

APPLIES TO ALL MAIL

MOVE TO: "INBOX ON THIS PC"

But then to further filter my email:

say b...@abccompany.com MOVE TO " BILLS ON THIS PC"

I have to make that 1st rule be at the bottom of the list of filters
and then b...@abccompany.com MOVE TO " BILLS" first otherwise

MATCHES ALL RULES BELOW

ACCOUNT: AccountNameHere

APPLIES TO ALL MAIL

MOVE TO: "INBOX ON THIS PC"

Doesn't work.

I thought that I had a idea on what you were talking about, but I
kinda didn't have a clue on what you were talking about so I took a
chance:

So I tried what you said:

Created a folder called TEST

opened up Nautilus into a small window

then opened the TEST FOLDER in Evo

and brought back up Nautilius and dragged that .mbox file into the TEST
FOLDER

Wow, that works so much faster than importing!

Now I understand what you keep calling a " MAIL SPOOL" aka the .mbox
files.

Tim,

I just tried the labels thing and I noticed that when you apply the
label, not really much happens:

I added the labels column to Evolution... And Yes, I see that it tagged
the email with
" Fedora Group" but that was it.

For a test, I dragged the email from the gmail server to ON THIS
COMPUTER and I noticed the email turned completly blue ( Thats the
color I picked out ) and had FEDORA GROUP listed as the label under the
label column.

Interesting.

Oh, is that what you're supposed to do?

That's the correct way of using gmail with IMAP? oops

Whatever email client I am in, I just make a rule

I turn all of that stuff off.

But there's one thing I cant stand about GMAIL imap, and that is when
you go to delete a email and you tap the delete key, the emails get
moved to [GMAIL/TRASH]. And when you go to look for something under ALL
MAIL,
Emails that you wanted to keep are mixed in with trash until you move
all of those emails under the label [ GMAIL/TRASH] to the actual trash
folder under webmail.

No, I was just saying its weird getting use to things again.

I do have a question, but I know if I come over there I am going to get
told to RTFM.

Basically, I imported my emails from CLAWS to Evolution by:

* Opening Claws

* Selecting all emails in that one mailbox

* Clicked the file menu

* EXPORT TO MBOX FILE

then imported the emails into Evo by selecting the file and telling EVO
that it's a .mbox file type.

But I noticed that when I went to rename the folder in EVO to something
else... The folder was suddenly empty. But at the top left of the
screen it said there was 1533 emails total in the folder.. I tried to
delete the whole folder to reimport, the emails just showed up with a
error message saying the directory wasn't empty.

So I selected all emails in that folder and deleted them and deleted
the folder and re-created the folder and reimported the emails and so
far everything is okay.

Before any of this happened, I did a complete reset of Evo:

Re: Kinda OT: Email clients and Email Management

2022-03-07 Thread c. marlow
SO UPDATE:

Since I have a domain host that allows me to point my email to be
delivered to any email address that accepts mail.

It's what they call a "Forwarding only service"

I currently have my email pointed towards a brand new free Yahoo
account.

To date... Yahoo has the biggest storage limit of 1 Terabyte of
storage. And since I don't send out a lot of emails anymore nor do I
get a lot of emails with a lot of attachments, 1 TB of storage could
last me for the rest of my life!

TBH on using IMAP: Opening Claws and having to wait for a little over a
minute for email to be sorted into folders and then wait for the folder
to light up to let me know that, that folder has new mail in it, is
kinda frustrating. But I guess I'll get use to it?

I just know that backing up my Claws-Mail folders is starting to get
harder and harder.

Right now, Nautilius says that the claws folder has
31,989 items in it, and the current size of my Claws data folder is
799.2 Megs.

My Nextcloud backup service only gives me 20 gigs of storage.

So, by me doing daily backups of my Claws Data.. I am currently sitting
at 9.1 gigs out of 20 used.

I was using a free gmail account, but GMAIL is fixing to do away with
being able to use Less Secure Apps... And I didn't feel like having to
jump through hoops to set up O-OATH for Claws and gmail..

So I knew it was time to make the switch now, instead of waiting until
May.

Switching to IMAP is kind of new for me. It also gives me anxiety too
knowing my WHOLE LIFE is stored online now instead of locally in my
email client

But it does make life a little bit easier now that I don't have anything
to backup anymore and I can switch around to any email client that I
want.

Evolution: Starting Over

2022-02-23 Thread c. marlow
Hi,

I am trying to erase everything in Evolution and start it over as if I
had just installed Fedora and Evolution

I asked on Reddit and I got this far:

I was able to do:

rm -rf ~/.config/evolution

rm -rf ~/.local/share/evolution

rm -rf ~/.cache/evolution

But when I get to:

dconf reset /org/gnome/evolution/

is where the trouble starts...
I can't get this command to work:

[chris@fedora ~]$ sudo dconf -f reset /org/gnome/evolution/
[sudo] password for chris:
error: unknown command -f

Usage:
  dconf COMMAND [ARGS...]

Commands:

  updateUpdate the system databases
watch Watch a path for changes
dump Dump an entire subpath to stdout
load Populate a subpath from stdin

Use 'dconf help COMMAND' to get detailed help.

[chris@fedora ~]$ sudo dconf reset /org/gnome/evolution/ -f
error: -f must be given to (recursively) reset entire directories

Usage:
  dconf reset [-f] PATH

Any ideas on what I should do?

For everyone:

Just to follow up I wound up going back to POP and setting my email up
like Robert Moskowitz

I have Claws MOVE the emails to my local folders.

I could of just had CPANEL forward all 5 of my email accounts to
the brand new gmail account, set that brand new gmail account up in
Claws as a POP account and then download everything that way I don't
have to wait for EACH IMAP account to update and then move the email to
the local folders.

I guess that's something to think about... I am trying to compensate
being stuck on a slow satallite dish connection and use as little data
as I can since I only get 30 gigs a month and i've already ran out for
the month with 18 days left in my billing cycle. OYE VEY!

I should of done that... I am on a mailing list that for some reason I
wasn't getting that person's messages and could only see what they said

I dont mind people coming to me OL... Until they say mean and hateful
things in their email. And then, you get a special filter set up in your
honor that has Claws silently delete your emails and not let me know
that you sent me something :)

You can turn off Gmail's spam filtering:

*Create Filter*

in:spam ( never send to spam)

label:spam ( never send to spam)

is:spam ( never send to spam)

And for an extra bonus:

Re: Kinda OT: Email clients and Email Management

2022-02-19 Thread c. marlow
So I've set my email up as IMAP...

I've got kind of a special set up.

Call me frugal.. Lol

I set up CPANEL to forward my email to a brand new gmail address that I
made. Only because I kinda like the whole gmail " label " system now.

HostGator offers Google Workspaces but I don't want to have to move
5 accounts to the new GW accounts and plus, just using HostGator's
default email service, I get unlimited accounts vs having to pay for
each one with GW.

But then I started thinking this morning, WHY did I move to IMAP? I
only check my email on my computer. I had the new account set up on my
phone, but it got annoying to change accounts every time I open the
gmail app from the free account that i've had since 2015 and don't use
for anything to the new account for my domain. So I wound up removing
the new account off of my phone.

But then again.. My MH folders are getting ridiculously large... 845.8
MB and that is taking up A LOT of my 20 gig storage with NextCloud
since I back up my MH folders nightly.

I just got done changing hosting companies from InterServer to
HostGator, due to I.S. not sending me all of the emails from the lists

Like for instance.. I would see SO AND SO REPLIED TO :

But I wouldn't get the original starter email from xxx.

But anyways, I have the same set up like you right now.. Except I
manually move my email off of each account.

I am just afraid that using a MOVE command filter could cause some
emails to come up missing or something like that.

I will have to test that out and let you know.

And is still currently considered in development and are advised to NOT
use that format for right now in TB unless you know how to fix problems
that come up while using the MH format in TB.

Well.. I am reaping what I sew...

I am starting to regret the change to IMAP.

I just told Claws to move two emails from my cell phone company to
another folder / label whatever you want to call it.. And the emails
are not in that folder.

I even went online to gmail.com and did a search for 2 words that were
in the subject line.. POOF...GONE No where to be found.

No lie... Claws does go down the line and checks every folder when you

I tried that and it seemed like Claws wasn't moving everything to the
local folders.. But, I think that was my mistake though.. I used the
MOVE command instead of COPY command.

So I wound up changing my filters to

IF: ALL MAIL to DOMAIN ACCOUNT

COPY TO >> ChristophersMail ( That's my local MH folders )

Actually, if in the previous paragraph you said you don't have any
special folders on the mail server, but your emails are moved to the
local folders, that basically means you have your account set up as
IMAP and then a rule set up to copy or move the emails from the IMAP
server to LOCAL FOLDERS? Right?

Ohh... I've had TB lose my email 2 or 3 times... I don't trust TB...
But that was after a nuke and pave and restoring my email back in
/home.

I noticed that IMAP is SLOWW because Claws
checks every folder for new mail, when my email is only filtered when
I launch Claws.

I did find a way to right click on a folder and go to properties and
uncheck " CHECK FOR MAIL"... So basically Claws skips over checking
that folder for new mail.

WAS : Kinda OT: Email clients.... ( Now Forwarders)

2022-02-14 Thread c. marlow
I am also wondering about this:

I have a web hosting package that offers email the works:

Website, FTP, Email, etc

I have my email set up to Forward via the Direct Admin panel to a Gmail
address.

You open the Direct Admin panel

Then you click the " Fowarders" icon

and I hit CREATE FORWARDER

And then I set the forwards up like:

email address: fed...@cwm030.com

Destination: EMAIL

and then added the gmail address I want my mail forwarded to

I just got a piece of spam mail that it looks like the forwarder caught
it first before Spam Assassin caught it and it was forwarded to me and
GMAIL caught it.

I am wanting to know, would gmail start considering all mail from my
domain as spam if it occasionally puts a piece of mail in the spam
folder? Or is DirectAdmin keeping the headers like they are and just
redirecting the email to me?

Thanks,
Chris

My Claws-Mail MH offline storage folders ( back when I was a POP user)

That sounds very confusing lol.

I think if I was to use IMAP, I would redirect my email from my
Web host's mailbox which only offers you 25 gigs of storage, to my FREE
gmail account, since I am one of those that keeps EVERYTHING. At least
GMAIL offers upgrades in storage space, where my web host doesn't.

About the network point you made:

I am on a satellite dish connection and we only get so much data a month
and then when we run out, we're lowered to 1 to 3 megs until our reset
day.

But, a lot of people on the internet has told me that IMAP doesn't use a
lot of data. I don't believe it though.

But I kinda liked it though.

I've always wanted to know, where does your POP email get stored if

That is true, you could use any mail client that you want to.

>>Thus far, Evolution is the least-worst one I've found on Linux.<<

You must of never had to use the Evolution mail group before.. They're
quite rude over there. Basically, they give you the nice " GO RTFM" for
replies, even though you tried Googling your issue.

" Go to HELP > AND " and read the help guide."

I use to really love Evolution until that started happening.

How do you do that? When I tried IMAP, on this sat dish connection,
here in Claws, Claws slowly loaded the whole inbox and displayed
everything in the inbox.

And every time I switched folders it took it a min to display everything
in that folder.

Kontact / Kmail

2022-02-02 Thread c. marlow
Hi,

I am thinking about trying TDE again... I had a total melt down with
Debian, and it was horrible everything was good for about 5 hours and
then I restarted and everything started throwing errors.

But before I do:

I am wondering, is Kontact the same thing as KMAIL?

If so, I would rather have a newer version of KMAIL that comes with the
Kontact flatpak than the version that comes with TDE which is version
1.9 and looks like its from 100 years ago Lol.

had that with firefox, but lost, with a couple other abilities,
after an upgrade. was handy.

true. but anyone with bad 'house keeping habits' will have an
amass of bookmarks that they know little of, regardless of using
bookmarking of all tabs.

if one is to use bookmarks, one should learn how to use them.
not just mark to have a bookmark.

every time i set a bookmark, i immediately set a tag.

i have 19,812 bookmarks, all with tags, about 85% have keywords,
and i will not guess how many i have filed in a description.

all my bookmarks are categorized and alphabetized with headings
to easily locate them. it took a few years off and on of
reorganizing to get them to the organization they are now in,
but it was well worth it.

in fact, a bit of a brag, but as a further description, my
bookmarks would make Melvil Dewey proud. :-)

also, among these bookmarks, there are a lot from netscape days
that i still use.

this is heading in a tangent way off from "Subject:", so i leave
with above.

I honestly dont understand the whole point of tagging in firefox... Well
I dont know how to use the tagging feature, I have never used it...

What do you do tag something then type it in the address bar and hit
enter and it will load that bookmark?

Some browsers have a menu option to resume previous browsing session.
So, after you've started a fresh browsing session, you can use that
option and pick up from where you left off.

Posting issues?

2014-04-02 Thread c. marlow
I cannot get posts to go through my domain email account. I am testing to see
if this gmail account will accept posts.

I posted a question but never got a acknowledgement email.

It was working, then it just stopped... And nothing is going to the spam folder
neither. this is odd.

Maybe put RAWHIDE under its own section saying if you have the ROLLING
RELEASE then enable this repo or something like that

1.1 if you use F19 then :
www.xxx.com

1.2 If you use F20
www..com

1.3 if you use Rawhide ( rolling release) then
www.xxx.com

Ok wait... this is interesting... it does the unresponsive scroll when
initially loaded but if I click on the page it scrolls fine without
pausing which is weird.

Well I clicked on rawhide thinking I was suppose to click on all of them
but when it came to rawhide it downloaded it but then popped up in red a
dependency error saying resolution not supported or something like that.
I just hit X but the Fedora 20 one installed fine

No I didnt do 19.. Just 20 and Rawhide... but Rawhide failed.

I agree as a first time Fedora user, coming from Kubuntu I found the
graphical installer of F20 a bit puzzling. because coming in it saw that
I had Kubuntu already installed and had a big ! over the partitioning
and I had to click on it then click on my hard disk then click the back
button at the upper left corner to go back to the main installation
screen.

first time it didnt take my selection to erace the whole hdd... I had to
go back and click on partitions double click the hdd read though the
message saying not enough space then I clicked blindly the use
basic /home setup. and hoped for the best :X

oh crud I google it before I checked my email and googled nvidia
drivers... this page came up

http://www.if-not-true-then-false.com/2014/fedora-20-nvidia-guide/

I had one problem and thats at 3.1 said it didnt exist

3.2 the make font... something about not being a valid font

but at boot I saw the NVIDIA logo before the log on screen came up.

I think I am fixing to do section 4... return the pc back to Neou.
driver and do that rpm fusion.

Fedora Scrolling Lag

2014-03-31 Thread c. marlow
Fresh Install of Fedora 20 installed last night.

When browsing Facebook and I use the mouse wheel to scroll down, Firefox
pauses before it jumps down ( meaning it pauses for a few sec before it
finally gets the command that I scrolled down and the page finally goes
down)

I am using Fedora 20 Mate

2 gigs of ram

custom built pc

250 gig Hardrive

Installed last night full format since I was coming from Kubuntu

Only programs open Evolution and Firefox

Memory Usage currently: 357.2 MB ( 17.7 % )

Swap: 0 of 2 gigs

fully updated last night ( and fresh update of 384 patches was
slowww I had to let it run overnight on my 12 down 1 up sat
connection)

Thanks,
Christopher
